The best gastro pub in Philadelphia
The best gastro pub in Philadelphia. Food is inventive, flavor full, and fresh. Beer list is always interesting and service is always helpful.

We were dazzled by the creative menu. A great place for sharing so you can experiment with several dishes. We were a party if thre. We tried four or five appetizers, a pasta, and a dessert. The beer offerings were great. A lovely experience!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our night out at Alla Spina. We shared several items from the menu and ejoyed them all. The staff was excellent from the hostesses, the bartenders, to the servers and bussers. A little noisy but friendly. We highly recommend trying Alla Spina.

Alla Spina 2nd time there
My 2nd visit and can't wait to go back. Impeccable service by our waitress Allison. Everything done exquisitely. Great food. Timing between plates was perfect (not always the case with other Tapas / Small plates restaurants).
Good wine selection ....Great Beer selection (which is what Alla Spina means "from the tap")

Great service; great beer
Great service; great beer list; great music; excellent food. Really enjoyed our experience.

Vibrant scene + food + best service
Our waitress was super attentive to all our needs including picking up on my wife's vegetarianism from her order - and volunteering some helpful information regarding our dessert choice to avoid her inadvertently having something made with a meat product - namely the bread pudding. That being said I ate the bread pudding and it was amazing - my wife even put aside her qualms to try it out and thoroughly enjoyed it.
The scene is vibrant and can get a bit loud - but it should be expected and revelled in.
Great food in a more relaxed setting but still with superb service and a gourmet menu!

Upscale bar food with a smile
The menu provides many of the typical bar foods one would expect, fries, burgers, wings, etc., but the unique style and flavors make it well-worth a visit. Plus, the varied beer menu is strong for the beer drinkers (I have loved the flights to get some variety). I have gone several times, including with a large group of 12, and each time have found different things I have adored. The best way to approach this restaurant is to be adventurous and try out some new things.
On top of an excellent menu, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. It is a vibrant scene, so don't go if you want a quiet romantic dinner, but it is family friendly.

Brunch and dinner here are amazing. I highly recommend.

Nice place, but loud
Very loud, surprisingly good service, surprisingly average food. It was okay. Lively, and fun vibe, but be prepared to shout all night. The food was fine and well-timed, but just wasn't up to expectations. It was over-salted, and somewhat unattractively presented, though the pretzels were outstanding and maybe worth a trip on their own. I wasn't really happy to have chosen this place for my get-together, but I wouldn't rule it out for another night (probably because of the pretzels).
7/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Everything we ate here had out outstanding flavor and our table was on the edge of outdoor seating so we had a good feel for both indoor and outdoor seating. One of the best places I've eaten at in awhile. I highly recommend it for people who love food!
7/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
We loved it!
Our friends recommended Alla Spina to us for a date spot for a night in the city. We were pleasantly surprised. All of the staff members were extremely friendly and the service was excellent. And of course the food was to die for. I definitely recommend the fried chicken- YUM. And the selection of seasonal beers were great too! Overall wonderful experience! Can't wait to go back

Alla Delicious !!!!!!
our first time to Alla Spina.. had an early Saturday dinner.. Food was excellent, server was top shelf , had great knowledge of the craft beers available. all of the entree's and sides were "special". not overly spiced, just right. Prices are reasonable for the location etc. we got there early so parking was not an issue. Loved the decor with all the airbrush work, just perfect for the type of restaurant and location. We highly recommend Alla Spina !!

Get to Alla Spina - Pronto
In my quest to try all of the Vetri restaurants, I finally got over the location of Alla Spina, and booked a business dinner this past week. What a great experience, and as usual Vetri does not disappoint. So far I have been to Vetri, Amis, and now Alla Spina. The food was super delicious and different. The staff made great "tasting" suggestions so we could all share. This makes the dinner even more fun.
And, a special "shout out" to Ryan @ the bar, and Justin who took care of us during dinner. Really made the night even more fun!

The restaurant features several
The restaurant features several dishes made from pig, but also has many other choices. The atmospheres is great, especially on a beautiful summer evening when the large garage doors are open. The noise level when the restaurant is busy is extremely loud. Our party of four had to yell in order to hear each other. As the night went on, this eased slightly.
7/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Another great Vetri restaurant
Marc Vetri has another great restaurant to add to his list. Alla Spina seems to do everything right. Two of us had 4 small plates and each one was terrific. The fried eggplant was awesome. The pretzels were hot and light with a beer cheese sauce that had a mild kick. The deviled eggs with the crab? Killer. We also had the gnocchi entree and split it. Corn and buttery goodness. Great place. Headed back for sure.

Vetri on a budget
Wanted to try this Vetri offshoot and it did not disappoint. It looks pretty casual/pubby but the food is really "cuisine".
The pork shoulder for 2 was outstanding as were all appetizers. Reallllly good. It's kind of noisy though - really loud music and acoustics so you have to shout a lot. Would definitely go back though.
8/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was much more rewarding an experience than the first time I dined here. The menu was more evolved this time and I enjoyed eating outside, since Im not really crazy about the atmosphere inside.
8/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Creative food and excellent service
We just had another delicious meal at Alla Spina. The dishes are unique and the service is amazing!
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Pretzels and cheese sauce were addictive, deviled eggs were filled with a surprising amount of crabmeat, fried chicken was done perfectly, and halibut was sweet and flakey. DIned outdoors which was awkward with the setting sun shining right into my face, but the staff hands out loaner sunglasses to combat the setting sun.
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Suckling Pig Head
Shared the special Suckling Pig head and was incredible. Served whole, may not be for everyone but worth it!!
8/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
The maple glazed fried chicken
The maple glazed fried chicken over mozzarella curd mashed potatoes was AMAZING. Best FC I've ever had. It's a little noisier than I prefer. Boisterous.
8/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
My friends and I had a great experience at Alla Spina in Philadelphia. The food and drinks were amazing. We would recommend to a friend but there were a lot of cuisines that we weren't familiar with so it was hard to pick what we wanted for dinner. We didn't have to wait I be seated and our service was great. Thanks for a great double date!
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Everything was amazing
We all agreed this was in our top ten foodie places we have been in Philly, Fantastic service and a great time with friends.
9/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
Best fried chicken, my husband
Best fried chicken, my husband can't wait to come back for the baked oyster and the donut bread pudding!
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Always a good time
Discovered some new favorites at Alla Spina this time - the North Philly Sausage Cheesesteak on the house made pretzel roll that's to die for, and the Italian banh mi that puts a delicious spin on the Vietnamese sandwich. The book signing event for Chef Michaud's new cookbook made the experience extra special.
9/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
This all things pork restaurant was a great Sunday Brunch choice! I had a kind of scrapple with egg, and my family had the maple/chestnut crepes, the French Toast and the Pigs head Poutine which was very tasty and a bit thin on the meat in it. The atmosphere is open and light, funky and fun and the service was excellent. We were served the 3 doughnut special dessert complimentary which was absolutely delicious.
9/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
I had built up my expectations, and after my first time dining here, those expectations were exceeded. Don't wait to go. You won't regret it. I know I can't wait to go back.
9/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Alla Spina seems like one
Alla Spina seems like one of Vetri's more creatively decorated restaurants. It's garage themed and really fun to be in. The dim lighting with the TVs give it a casual feel while still being romantic. The food is amazing, but what else would you expect from Vetri. I recommend the gnocchi as an entrée. Thy have healthy choices and comfort food. Great for groups.
9/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
My wife and I really enjoyed the innovative menu. All of the menu choices we chose, were great. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to others.
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent food, knowledgeable and friendly wait staff, all sorts of really tasty pork dishes. We had the pork shoulder for four (4), and it was killer. Crispy skin, no knife required meat, on a bed of apples and greens. Amazing!
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Pot Pie Love
It is finally getting chilly at night and was perfect for sitting outside. The pork pot pie and a belgian strong ale hit the spot. Service was awesome and helpful. Cant wait to go back!
9/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good for what it is
I think the title of this review says it all - the food ranged from decent to very good, the service was ok, the drink list was great, and although I wasn't blown away, I feel like I got what I paid for. Great spot if you live in the neighborhood, but I can't see myself going very far out of my way to return.

A nice find
Went to Alla Spina on a whim when it came up on my open table app as close by and had an available 6:30 reservation available. I had called before arriving because we were running late and the staff was extremely kind toward me. When we did arrive we were seated right away and had a cozy table for 2. Our waitress was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. I had asked for a drink recommendation and she did not disappoint. The food was very good. While I was not impressed with the number of choices available the quality of my dish made up for that. The decor was also super interesting and gave the place a really fun vibe. I'd definitely return again

We love Alla Spina especially
We love Alla Spina especially after theater. Their Tuscan Kale and zucchini appetizer and mushroom starters are wonderful.
The addition of the peanut butter cannolli is great.
Good selection of wine by the glass.
10/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
My husband had wanted to get to here for a while so I surprised him for his birthday. When I called to confirm our reservation I asked if they could have his favorite drink waiting for us at the table. He would much rather have a drink than a free dessert. They pulled it off and it was a nice way to start our night out. The menu was pretty diverse ad delicious.
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food was great. Best fried
Food was great. Best fried chicken I've ever had. It's a bit loud, and the tables are a bit cramped, but the food makes up for it.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Pork and Beer
To call it an Italian restaurant is an insult--Philly is replete with them--but to call it a gastropub doesn't say much. It's a unique pork-centric mostly small plates resto with a selectively good beer list. Interesting space, nice food variety, creative desserts (I had a beer milkshake, with grape sorbetto and Deeschutes Chainbreaker white IPA). My gnocchi with pig cheeks hit the spot. Decent wine, too. We will go back and take friends.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had the pretzels as a starter and could have eaten 3 dishes of those. Yum! The waitress was very attentive and did a nice job.
My companion had the fried chicken and I had the skate. We did not get side dishes. While we likely missed out on the sides, we were not left hungry from our entres. Then onto dessert. I had the choco taco and he had the soft twist. Both very good.
Very nice place, nice ambiance, I'd go back.
10/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had the pork shoulder for
We had the pork shoulder for two . Outstanding. Too full for dessert!
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Had great time with a table of four. The food was unique and tasted great .Certainly great for any kind of food adventurer. Even though we had reservations, we still had to wait a half hour because it was so full, so be aware of that detail.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Interesting menu choices
Really enjoyed reading the menu, and wish I had been more hungry to try more things...will have to go back and try some of the "odder" things listed. The salad I had was good, but pretty skimpy, and the beer cheese pretzels were yummy!
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
With high expectations given the pedigree (Verti offshoot) my wife and I were pleasantly surprised as it was better than we could have imagined. Food was fantastic and the Beer parings were amazing... I only wish I could take this place with me back to Baltimore.... Well done on all levels....

Stand Out Food and Beverage
We have been here multiple times and the food, beer, and wine selections are consistently great. The service is attentive and very good overall, but for some reason it takes longer than it should to have a glass of beer or wine served to your table. It is frankly strange and inconsistent with the rest of the experience. Maybe the bar is understaffed because I did not get the impression our server forgot about the order.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Good but heavy
We made the mistake of having a big brunch before our dinner here so even though we had a late reservation, we weren't starving. It's hard to find a "light" dish on the menu so we probably would have been happier if we'd been hungrier! That being said the eggplant was outstanding and the "gnocchi" (although they looked like 2 dinner rolls) were covered with a rich and delicious, meaty braised pork cheek barbecue…..lots of meat. The oysters were drowned out by the cheese, but the cheese was good. The fried chicken, although a signature dish, was a big disappointment…the crust was way too thick and not all that flavorful. The beer selection was great and our waiter was knowledgeable, helpful and attentive. Upscale bare experience.

Great place to relax for brunch.
Went for brunch this past Sunday. Wasn't very busy so we sat at the bar lounge and had a good relaxing time. They need to get their seats repaired. Smaller brunch menu then I imagined. Got the veal ragu and crepes which were both excellent. Had a few drinks one of which was brough out wrong for the second round. Hash browns were just "ok", an upscale McDonalds hash brown. Not complaining though. We wanted dessert so we ordered the apple crisp split for two. Have no idea why they charge $18. That was a little ridiculous for an ordinary dessert. Should've known better but we got it anyway. Overall I was pleased with my experience. Guess it's a good thing route 6 doesn't open for brunch...I may go back but I think I'd rather go to Amis.

The food at Alla Spina is
The food at Alla Spina is really quite special. Mostly 'takes' on common dishes, but fancied up. My recommendation is to order a couple things and hold onto a menu, you may be full before you think. The portions are small and meant for sharing. The balsamic glazed ribs are amazing (but only 2 ribs is $15). I also loved the eggplant fritti (so much that I got it twice!) Another recommendation is watch what booze you order (unless you're drinking beer). My standard cocktail (good quality gin with club) ran me $11.00 a glass, when I get them everywhere else for $5 - $8. When I got the bill and had to throw in $44 + tax/tip just for booze, I was a little cranky! My friend's glasses of wine were also $11, and 1/2 our bill was booze. Grr.

another Vetri success !!
Another great Vetri offering...We've never been disappointed with Vetri's, always a great experience. We had an amazing app and a dinner special , a pork shoulder..something unusual for us. Check this out...a great Friday night place!

Simple and Complex
The food was good and some of it was really, really good. The dishes were simply prepared yet with ingredients such as rabbit, pig head or sweetbreads. I can't wait to go back for lunch so I can get one of those sandwiches!
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
My two friends and I planned an impromptu get together where we wanted to try a new spot and really be able to catch up. After living next to it for so long I decided it was time to give it a try. I should up and the two were at the bar, I kindly ask the gentleman at the front if we could stay there, he was completely fine with that. Well to leave it short and sweet. The food, service and attention from the staff made this friends get together the best ever.

Went to alla spina for brunch on Sunday. We had three different entrées, all of which were outstanding. Of partuclar not was the house made breakfast sausage with complemented two of the three entrees. The bloody Marys and house specialty drinks were most enjoyable. Look forward to returning.
