Great Food, Service and Presentatio
We needed a restaurant close to the Asian Art Museum for a quick, early dinner. O3 was an experiment, and turned out to be the perfect choice. The four of us tried different things (carrot soup, spring rolls, pot stickers, salmon, duck, scallops & pork belly, and short ribs). All the dishes were tasty, and presented beautifully. We weren't sure about the pork belly, but it was one of the hits of the dinner. The name and the taste were totally different. Glad we tried it. The noise level we experienced at this early hour was low, but it was early and not yet full, so I don't know if that will be true at a more usual hour. (We were there from 5 to 6:30 before an event at the museum.)

O3 Bistro & Lounge
The O3 Bistro and Lounge is a great addition to the Van Ness/Civic Center neighborhood!
We were warmly welcomed and shown to our table without delay.
The spring rolls were outstanding. The green Beens and fried chicken were also very good.
Our server was very pleasant! She was attentive - we never felt rushed.
When we placed our dinner order- our server did not hear us ask for one of the 3 items we ordered. Just as well as the portions are generous.

I love O3 bistro and it was
I love O3 bistro and it was a pleasure to celebrate my birthday dinner w/ my wife there again this year. I def recommend this place as a must have/try if you live in or around the city. It's pricey, but worth every penny bite by bite. I've never left dissappointed.

It was really close to Civic
It was really close to Civic Center so that was nice to be able to BART in. The ambiance was great - the bar and lounge area were very modern-looking. The food was delicious and quite affordable. My friend and I shared the Oxtail Tacos, Lobster Garlic Noodles, and I had the Braised shortribs and she had the Duck. So tasty! Her bell pepper margarita was interesting and I really liked the lavender drink that I had. I would definitely come back again.

Nice romantic place for dinner
Nice romantic place for dinner right at the Civic Center. Perfect place to go before the ballet or symphony.

Excellently executed food.
Excellently executed food. I had the salmon for lunch and it was beautiful: gorgeously glazed on a bed of rice with just the right amount of kick and some raw cabbage for texture and crunch. Very nice. The bread pudding for dessert was heavenly with a salted caramel sauce that was just perfect. Definitely will try this place again when in the civic center area.

Perfect place to dine before ballet
First time, very impressed with good and service. Perfect spot to fine prior to attending ballet, opera, symphony performances .

I enjoy O3 Bistro & Lounge. Food is great. Service has always been good. Their open face crab sandwich on Friday's is wonderful. I've enjoyed their grilled vegetable sandwich. Was not too impressed with their mushroom soup. This is one of my favorite places to go to in the Civic Center area.

We came back after a great
We came back after a great dining experience about 4 weeks ago. The food was once again great! I've got confidence the first time was not an accident. I've recommended the restaurant to friends and expect we will be back again in the near future.

Interesting menu and everyone
Interesting menu and everyone in our party was pleased. Great proximity to civic center events (ballet, opera, symphony, City Arts & Lectures, etc.)

Great service, interesting menu
This was our first shot at this restaurant. We like to sample the offerings around the opera house and Davies, since we're needing a place to dine around there and reservations aren't always available. This time we were heading for the Jazz Center and thought time would be tight for a 7:30 show. NO problem, however. When we informed them we might be tight on time, food came in a hurry giving us a more relaxed meal than we had expected. Check the menu. One friend had the marrow (not to my taste, but heck!), and she thought it was the best. Other items we well prepared as well.

Duck was perfectly prepared
Had a quick dinner here and got the duck - perfectly prepared - well worth a try
5/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
O3 was wonderful - excellent food, service, wine and cocktail list - prices were very fair. We had a lovely dinner before a nearby concert - this restaurant has an Asian twist - potstickers, lobster garlic noodles, and entrees - scallops and lamb chops were extremely tasty. Dessert of green tea ice cream was a wonderful end to the meal. Looking forward to going back.

Perfect for Opera & Symphony
We were first attracted to O3 by its convenient proximity to Davies Hall. Having been unable to book pre-concert reservations at Jardiniere or Absinthe, we were delighted by the choice. Every diner in our party of five was favorably impressed by each dish, including the steamed clams, pork belly, mushroom roulade, New York steak and lamb chops . We agreed that the brussels sprouts were the best we had ever tasted. The cocktails were also unique and refreshing. The bistro was surprisingly uncrowded and relaxed on a pre-concert Sunday night. We would recommend it without hesitation for other concertgoers.

Great cocktail program!
Creative and delicious cocktails, a testament to the return of the cocktalian as artist! Would that the wine list were as well thought out. It is short, without much of a theme, and over-priced, though there are a handful of gems for those who know.
But the food is delicious. Appetizers were generously proportioned, as were the entrees. Recommend ordering for the table and sharing, as you'll want to taste as many as possible.

tasty food; great cocktails
We had a really wonderful meal here before the opera. Pretty much everything was good. The pork belly and pot stickers were particularly great. The cocktails were VERY good. I will say that I wish the service had been a tad prompter -- folks were very friendly and helpful, but sometimes it would take the waiter a while to come by. Fortunately, we'd booked for 5pm, so we still got over to the opera house by 7pm; if we'd booked 5:30, we would've been late for the pre-show talk.

Dinner at O3
We went to have dinner before the opera. This was a new place for us. We were greeted immediately as we came in and were shown to a table for two. The table was big enough for both us and the food we ordered. We have found that some places have tables for two that were too small for one person, so the fact that the table was big enough was a pleasant surprise. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The prices were very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food we were served. We will be going there again and would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

A new favorite
Around the SF Symphony there are a dozen or so restaurants with "tired blood" OC 3 Bistro & Lounge is full of energy and good food.

What happened to the BAR?
The service and the food were really good! Appetizer portions are rather large and tasty (bonus points!) ... 4 appetizers for 2 of us was more than enough food.
My only disappointment with O3 Bistro and Lounge was their missing alcohol license. They have a large bar area however they couldn't sell any alcohol.

Great spot, great food
The ambience was great, chic and fun. The staff was helpful. The food was very flavorful, but a dish out of three was a little too salty. I tend to ask for light sodium on all my food when eating out but forgot this night. Prices are great. Actually was really surprised it was not busier and the bar area was dead. Very chic space and bigger than most places so you would not feel cramped. Great place would definitely go again.

Great spot for pre-Symphony dining!
This was our second trip to the O3 Bistro and we enjoyed it as much as our first. We were going to attend the symphony at 7:30 and we remembered about O3 just in time. Located a short walk from Davies Symphony Hall the food is excellent. We enjoyed a mix of sushi rolls as well as an order of the Lobster Soba Noodles dish and everything was outstanding. The service is cheerful and attentive and we will certainly be returning next time we attend an opera or an event near Civic Center. A nice variety of beers and sakes also came in handy!

Great Pre-Show moderate priced sinn
Very convient to Davies Symphony Hall - just up Van Ness a few blocks. Service was on top of it, food was very good. Would certainly go again if attending an event in the area.

Great flavors, good choices
Great flavors, good choices on menu.
A lot of wine by the bottle, specialty cocktails list, but drinks a bit pricey. No list for ales...
A bit of communication effort is needed, but they try very hard to be clear about what you want, and they are willing to customize!!

Now one of our favorites for Thai
Well prepared; beautifully presented Thai. Not dumbed down. Be prepared for heat!

Excellent experience - a great find
Loved the pumpkin curry & pineapple fried rice. Food presentation was outstanding. Great date spot.

Food was great as a Thai restaurant
Food was great as a Thai restaurant. But was expecting fusion food from all the online pics. Wished they had kept some of those famous signature dishes like pork belly & bone marrow.

Great for pre-symphony dinner!!
Upscale but not over-the-top, close to Davies Symphony Hall. Only a few blocks away. Nice, upscale bistro ambiance. Nice looking bar but we sat at a nice table. It was kind of early and so not crowded. Service was as good as it gets, start to finish: genuinely friendly, cordial, responsive, great menu recommendation, substituted a nice sparkling wine by the glass because they were out of what I wanted, cooled the wine a touch when requested, said "good-bye" & "hope to see you again" as we walked out. The garlic shrimp appetizer presentation is clever and tasted very good. Both the duck and the mango trout dishes were very fresh and very tasty. The distinct flavors of the dishes woke up the palate, as good Thai (fusion) food can do!
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was a delightful meal prior to the symphony only two easy blocks away. Parking was at the side door, the waitpersons friendly and the meal excellent. A find to which I shall return soon.
9/17/2013 5:00:00 PM
I was pleasantly surprised
I was pleasantly surprised to note the change in cuisine to Thai from my previous visit for fusion cuisine. The ingredients were fresh and freshly prepared with just the right amount of spiciness (we were asked how spicy we wanted it). The servings were adequate to share and the menu was extensive. The side of vegetables was devoid of spices and slightly too al dente, but the cucumber salad, ton yom soup and seafood dishes were perfectly prepared. Our servers were very helpful and appropriately attentive. We will return as this is a fine location for pre Oprea and Symphony dinners.

Handy to Civic Center and Good Food
We needed an early reservation before a concert at Davies. We opened the place and it took a few minutes to get their service organized. Not a crisis by any means, but we did have to ask for a wine list. All the food was creatively prepared and presented. The pumpkin curry was very good and served in the hollowed gourd with some clever knifework to enhance the appearance. They tend to minimize the spicing, so if like heat (or not) be sure to specify. One minor comment: The table for two got pretty crowded when everything was served. This will stay on our list for that neighborhood.

Great find by the Symphony and Ballet area. Must have are the Shrimp/Tofu salad rolls and the Lamb Curry. You will not be disappointed...very memorable.

o 3 bistro & lounge, wow
what a pleasant dining experience, delicious Thai inspired food, freshest of ingredients and just perfect for before opera or symphony... highly recommend the papaya salad, and the curry pumpkin...

Diner before a show
We were headed to the Orpheum on Saturday evening for a show and wanted to try a nice place fairly close to the theater where we hadn't eaten before. The reviews online for 03 Bistro were great and the menu looked very tempting. The food was incredible! We had the fresh spring rolls with a couple of their creative cocktails and they were yummy! I had the spicy seafood claypot curry and it was excellent. My wife had the pineapple shrimp curry and we shared the mango fried rice. Everything tasted excellent. The staff was helpful and friendly and the service was great. This was a thoroughly enjoyable meal. We'll be back!

friendly service, interesting food.
Went on Sunday evening right when they opened (after an opera matinee), with almost nobody else there. Service very friendly and accomodating. Got the "Thai beef jerky" -- beef strips dusted with (I think) rice flour, flash fried, served over bed of crispy seaweed flakes, with chili garlic sauce; whole dish was excellent, very different from standards you see at most Thai places (satay, yum nuer). Then did the curry tasting, selected red with beef, yellow with chicken, and the green coconut shrimp. Strongly recommend the latter -- served in a coconut; fresh young coconut flesh absorbs flavor from curry, while tempering the spice. For dessert, sticky rice with a perfectly ripe mango. Only complaint: onions in yellow curry were undercooked.

Very convenient civic center locati
O3 is easy to get to by BART (we came from East Bay) and only a short walk to all the Civic Center venues. The Thai food they offer is both traditional and innovative and beautifully presented. Unlike some Thai restaurants they offer each diner options on the level of "heat" they want for their dishes - wonderful for us who love the flavors (mangos, honey, cilantro, etc.) but not the burn. Service was very good although there were a couple of miscues -- entrée coming at same time as appetizer.

Killing time before a flight
Except for 3 other people who was in the bar, I was the only other customer in the restaurant. My reservation was for 5:15PM, but my business meeting ended early and they sat me early as I expressed my time constrained schedule due to a flight and the need to catch a 6:30PM BART train for SFO. I was promptly served with a Singha and proceeded to order spring rolls for an appetizer and Seafood stirfry special which was prepared wonderfully with green peppercorn bunches. The food & service was great. The next time I'm in the Civic Center area for business with a hankering for Thai food, I know where to go.

Loved this place
Went here to eat before going to the Opera. Ordered appetizers to share and happy hour drinks. First time here and loved it! Will definitely go back again.

In and out before theatre
When we arrived we had about 1 hour for dinner. Our drinks and orders came immediately, as did the check when we were done.
Fab food, though we asked for it to be milder than usual. The quail is a must have--yummy!

A little Weird but Good
Modern decor, high ceilings, convenient & easy walk to Opera House. Started with drinks and a salad. Almost finished the salad & still no drinks.Moderately busy. Husband got the Sweet and Spicy cocktail which had a weird kind of overpowering cleaning fluid smell - undoubtedly the mango. Tasted good but the aroma was a bit off-putting. I had the Bell Pepper Margarita -fine. The calamari salad was yummy with excellent spices albeit a bit rubbery. We shared the Thai Fried rice w/ shrimp and mussels + The Mango Trout - both very good. Overall pretty good but there isn't really any personality to the place. It's kind of like a zillion other trendy spots with so-so service but not much human connection. Do you know what I mean?
11/25/2013 4:00:00 PM
Appetizer combination plate
Appetizer combination plate especially good. Service good, except for people who came after we did who had to wait quite a while for ordering and then for the food. Also, ordered a Gibson before dinner and the waitress obviously had no idea what that was, though she pretended as though she did, and the bar tender certainly should have known. In any case, I did get some gin, but no onions.
11/26/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great except for the TVs
It's OK to have a TV in the bar area, but there are 2 TVs in the main dining area. They are muted, but sports channel video is distracting. It would be more romantic without the TVs.
A few months ago the menu changed from Asian fusion to straight Thai. Excellent Thai food, with sizable portions. The Tom Yum soup is very fresh and tasty.

Great Happy Hour with $1 oysters
Great Happy Hour with $1 oysters on Monday, fried calamari, fried oysters, vegetarian rolls, and lots more.

Great Opera House location
Perfect location for a pre-ballet meal, 1/2 way between Civic Center parking and the Opera House. The food was quite good, some of the best crusted salmon ever. The chowder soup special was very good as were the seared scallops. The bar area can be quite loud and busy so give a little extra time to make a show (5:45 for 8:00 just made it). For drinks, beware of the chili salted sweet and spicy -- the salt is really spicy, but good. The menu has changed slightly from the website but not significantly. Will likely go again when attending a show.
3/25/2013 5:00:00 PM
Great Civic Center pre-theater find
Excellent food with very responsive, thoughtful (and quick) service. Ever since Stars closed, we haven't ventured East of Van Ness for dinner, but O3 is a perfect pre-theater restaurant in the Civic Center area. We'll be back!
4/18/2013 4:00:00 PM
My husband and I arrived late
My husband and I arrived late for our reservation (we had called ahead to let them know), and so we rushed a bit through ordering our dinner (skipping appetizers for example) because we wanted to be able to make it to the beginning of the ballet. There was no need! The food came out so incredibly fast! We were so impressed, and we had time to linger over dessert (rather than over cocktails).
4/19/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great when taking in events
Great when taking in events at any of the many cultural institutions in the neighborhood; it's within a block of several.
And, miracle of miracles, we found FREE street parking right out front. Food and service were terrific.
