Eclectic and provocative
My dad grilled our waiter about almost every item on the menu, and I was very impressed with his insightful answers. I was even more impressed that all the food that came to our table was delicious!!!! I also enjoyed the setting, which is laid back enough not to be pretentious, but well-lit enough to feel very glam.

Had a wonderful "Girls Night Out" dinner on a Saturday night. Staff was great, food delicious and ambiance eclecticly fun!
We dined on several small plates and a trio of veggies (plus cocktails) and all were delicious!

Phenomenal. Everything was good: food, atmosphere, music, service...everything. The attention to detail was impressive.
We ordered two entrees and all six sides. Enough food, as it turns out, for dinner the next nights at home. But, we were intent on sampling everything we could.
The entrees were great: pasta and hanger steak. But the best part were the sides: brussels, radicchio, kale, etc. Even the fries were a treat.
Highly recommend for most occasions.

The menu was varied and we liked everything that we ordered. We had a vegetarian with us and she was especially pleased with her choices. We were a little disappointed with the fact that they did not have a full bar. I thought the wine by the glass selection was limited and overly expensive. I will go back when I am in the neighborhood again, but may not make a special trip just to go to the restaurant.

quintessential neighborhood gem
Friends in nyc recommended Exchange to me as a great place "off the beaten track". I brought 3 business colleagues and they were not disappointed. One hipster friend called the priest stranglers on the menu " the best pasta dish he ever ate". The hangar steak, jambalya balls with Brown gravy and salt seared cod were all extraordinary. We ate family style and shared 3 apps, 4 mains and the cheese plate. The only one that wasnt as well received ad the others was the braciole, which was just a tad dry. Service was excellent and very friendly. Chase was our server and made solid recommendations on beers and sides. 5 stars for this near perfect little gem.

stumbled upon this spot and it has become one of my favorite spots in the east village/alphabet city area. wonderful food, friendly staff, amazing drink list, live bands during brunch - what's not to like?!

A wonderful place to dine, loved the drinks and the food. Slightly odd waiter outfits, but for me that just addax to the experience. Absolutely the best food we ate on this holiday, and good prices as well. Will definitely be back!

A Great Spot
Went for a 7pm reservation and had a good conversation with the bartender while I waited for my date. The bartender was hospitable and even informed me of great beers near Coney Island. The dishes were delicious and for appetizers worth the price and more. The atmosphere of the restaurant really set a good mood for my date and I enjoyed it a lot.

I took my friend out to dinner to celebrate his graduation.
We met one of the most friendliest and sweetest waiter ever.
The food was also very good. The noise level got a little too high but we were at the restaurant for nearly 5 hours as it was comfortable. It was a really nice occasion and my friend was happy.

Fantastic place in the neighborhood
Waiters are always friendly and helpful, food is always delicious and fit for any occasion. Great for sharing, intimate gatherings, lunch, big groups. It's on my regular rotation.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The restaurant staff is very accommodating and hospitable. Our only objection was that the restaurant was quite warm on the night we dined there, but I assume they were having temporary AC problems.
There are a lot of interesting items on the menu and among the various dishes we ordered there was not one that we found lacking. The anchovy toast, crispy beef cheeks and jambalaya balls appetizers were all quite good. The pasta dishes (lasagna edges and priest stranglers) were excellent. The black bass was tasty but a bit difficult to manage with the whole spring onions in the bottom of the bowl.
We definitely look forward to returning to Exchange Alley for another meal.

We enjoyed our exceptional
We enjoyed our exceptional dinner with friends who'd been here before. Our waiter, Chase, was a wonderful guide through cocktails and dinner and our choices from this innovative menu were terrific. But the music was ridiculously loud, and only got louder as the evening progressed. It was impossible to have a conversation. This is the type of meal where dinner should be savored.Chase recommended sharing dishes, adding to the sense of community. We opted not to have dessert so we could escape from the noise and continue our conversation elsewhere over dessert. There seems to be an outside area out back, but no seating was offered there. This might be a good place for patrons to sit who do not want the inundating noise to be a part of their meal.

UNexpected fun night out
Really wonderful little place, very helpful and playful staff!

Menu was varied and food was well prepared. The waiter was very friendly and helpful. A little dark but that would be my only criticism. A terrific experience.

A Neighborhood gem
The food here, by a charming and accommodating chef, was wonderful. He does terrific and inventive things with vegetables. The service was a bit haphazard and the noise level was HIGH. We went on a Saturday and it was packed so word of mouth is obviously good. While Exchange Alley attracts a y0png crowd we were surprised to see how many older people were among the patrons.

Been twice - once a crazy busy Saturday evening and once for early Sunday dinner. Both times the service was friendly, attentive and staff have great personalities. Food fresh, cooked with a southern twist and well presented. Loved the steak and the bananas foster.

Surprising artistry in the kitchen and on the plate. Robust, satisfying flavors and textures. Pay attention to the sides--they work as appetizers and desserts too

Yum for my tum
Actually the leftovers tasted amazing two days later, that is, the lasagna edges and brasiola, and great music, but best of all, my girlfriend loved it - need I say more?
I heard about it on NPR

This place is a must! Our food was eclectic and delicious and our server was friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back!

Been 2x and both were exquisite
I think this is my new favorite place. Start to finish was amazing. I've tried the butter lettuce salad - i want to put that dressing on everything!! All of the veggies are insane, prob one of the best beet dishes i've had (disclosure, I am mostly vegetarian). For mains I had the lasagna and on another occassion fish/yellow tomato dish, both were SO delicious. I sampled the jambalaya balls and def recommeend those as well. Its also surprisingly easy to get a reservation which is nice (apparently word is not totally out on this place). The ambience is darkly lit/romantic but also lively to have dinner with friends.

I love Exchange Alley
Exchange Alley holds a special place in my heart. I love the food, atmosphere and the staff. It's a great place to unwind, have a drink and be with friends.
8/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Exchange Alley is my new favorite restaurant--hands-down. Every single item I've ordered has been exquisitely prepared. It's a true "foodie" scene. (Note: The anchovy toast is to die for!) The chef *cares* about freshness and even grows spices and veggies in a garden out back. The wait staff has always been extraordinarily attentive and friendly (though I do dine early, anywhere, to avoid crowds). And finally, Exchange Alley's decor is fun; its music play list, fabulous; and its sound-system, great! A very cool, hip vibe--perfect for the East Village!

Had a wonderful lunch at Exchange Alley, great service, a real gem in the Lower East Side! Highly recommend.

Great new spot!
Easy to get to and easy to like! I would definitely recommend you make a reservation...as it's a long wait otherwise.
Nothing but great things to say. Best meal I've had in months.

Great food - fun staff
Been to exchange alley a few times. Food is great, and staff makes it even ebtter.

Chose this restaurant for its creative menu and it did not disappoint. The jambalaya balls and anchovy toast were among the best appetizers we've ever sampled. Will definitely return.

Exchange Alley - personal fave
Always loved this spot. Really surprised it isn't packed every night of the week. Food is stellar, the staff is really cool, and it's bookable via OpenTable. What's not to want?

Loved the atmosphere, although
Loved the atmosphere, although it was honestly bordered on a bit too loud and dark, even for a downtown NYC restaurant. Left feeling like we'd been screaming the whole night. Made up for by the fact that we lingered over our meal for quite a long time without ever feeling rushed by the staff.
All the mains were great, but the sides were outstanding - charred kale, brussels sprouts, jambalaya balls and side or burnt broccoli were perfect!
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Very good comfort food
Nice evening with friends and business associates. Nice menu. Comfort food. Nothing fancy, but food was very well prepared. We shared one of each entree and all were beautifully prepared. No hard alcohol here, so no cocktails, only wine and beer. Wine list was a bit limited, but adequate. Food for the value was expensive. Dinner for 6 was $450.00.

That great vibe
Where good food meets good action. Exchange Alley is an adventure that leaves you feeling good.
