Great food and cool ambiance.
Great food and cool ambiance. Pizza was delicious and pear salad was no joke.

Very well prepared pasta (but unusually skimpy with the ragu/meat content). Nicely unpretentious, generally friendly place but the service ranged from superb to barely adequate.

Definitely a gem.
The food was outstanding and the service was brilliant. Definitely recommend Acqua.

Delicious food, good crowd, fun upbeat staff- a perfect atmosphere for lunch! I ordered the panino caprese- it was absolutely delicious. Overall, I had a great experience.

Great food, but some disappointment
I have been to this place before (pre-hurricane Sandy), and decided to come again for a dinner with my family. The food, as always is excellent-- highly recommend the bruschetta and crab with avocado appetizers. However, we had to wait longer than expected to get our food order in. I'm not sure if it was a busy Saturday night, but there didn't seem to be one specific waiter/waitress taking our orders. At the end of the meal, they had run out of half the desserts on the menu! Also-- and I am sure this will get fixed-- their coffee machine was broken. I will still come here again in the future b/c their food is delicious, but hope that they are a bit more organized and have more dessert options!

The Service at the restaurant was beyond excellent and good delicious.

When I learned Acqua was out of gluten free pasta, we were getting up to leave. The manager came over and asked if something was wrong and we explained. He said they now had gluten free pizza and he sat down and helped design a pizza for me. Many thanks for my yummy veggie pizza.

Cozy Italian in FiDi/Seaport
Food and service was excellent. Cozy spot near the seaport.
5/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great calm meeting spot
I always love going back to the place and everyone I bring likes it there as well. I've never complained about the service nor food as it has been consistently great. I trust to go there to have a very calm evening without drama or issues.

Good food, great service
I thought Acqua would be hard to find, but I had no trouble finding it at all. I met a friend there for lunch, and we were pleasantly surprised. It's on the small side, which was great for me. I'm hard of hearing, so I don't like big, crowded, noisy places. I had no trouble following the conversation with my friend. The service was fast and the servers are attentive without being intrusive. The food was terrific! I had a very tasty spinach ravioli. I highly recommend Acqua if you are in the South Street Seaport area. One caveat: There's only one rest room, for both men and women, and it only accommidates one person at a time. But it was no problem at all.

Great food, but oh, so noisy
I go to Acqua at least once a year and the food remains splendid. But last night was terribly noisy... :-( I could hardly have a conversation with my date - we literally had to scream at each other to top the noise coming from the bar and other tables. It was a Monday night, so I had not expected this. Also, the service was friendly, but not very well trained. Definitely thought my visits in the past left me with a better impression than did yesterday's visit.

After Sandy things are even better
Been here several times. Parking is difficult, because of the work repairing the flooding after Sandy. It is close to Wall Street, and close to South Street Seaport. Always been for dinner, but understand the lunch business is brisk, and growing.
Dinner is focused on seafood, northern Italian (Trieste) style. There is lamb or steak or veal (depending on quality and market prices), and the overall quality of the food, the preparation and the focus is quite high. There are interesting dishes, like cuttlefish, occasionally (which I ordered, and would order again).
They don't overbook, so you get your reservation on time. Service works fine. The wine list is Italian focused, and broad. You can eat outside if the weather permits.

I took my sister to NYC for the first time for her 40th birthday and we picked this restaurant due to its proximity to our hotel. It was nothing special overall. Grilled shrimp appetizer with green beans was very good. Many of the pasta dishes didn't have meat which was a turnoff for me.
5/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
My husband, 3 year old son and I dined here on memorial day Monday evening. We booked a boat excursion from the South Street Seaport and wanted a place to eat afterwords. However we didn't want to eat in the seaport at one of those bar like touristy spots. I looked on Open table and found this restaurant which was 2 short blocks away from the seaport. We LOVED it. The food was great, the place was clean, cozy and kid friendly. Would work just as well without kids. Great wine list....FRESH FOOD!!!!

This restaurant is amazing! Great ambience and incredible, authentic Italian food. True neighborhood gem. So happy it is back on its feet after Hurricane Sandy

I was in town for the weekend
I was in town for the weekend to photograph the Brooklyn Bridge. I stayed at the Best Western which is next door. I found Acqua on-line and made a reservation because it was close and I love Italian restaurants. I was pleased on all level. The fresh pasta dish I had was wonderful. No hesitation to recommend Acqua!!

Acqua was an excellent small neighborhood restaurant close to South St. Seaport. Lower Manhattan is not my usual area when I am in the city. I had an occasion to be in lower Manhattan. Not knowing the area, I looked for places of interest on the web. I read a lot of reviews. Something about Acqua caught me. It had good reviews and sounded like my kind of place. It was perfect. It's a few blocks away from the touristy area. Made a reservation. Glad that I kept walking by other places that looked nice. The pasta was outstanding....and the prices were good. Next time I have to be in lower Manhattan, I will certainly eat there again. It was perfect for me.

Great little place that survived
Great little place that survived Sandy and rebuilt. Great food and the manager is tops. Prices are reasonable for downtown. Make a reservation as it gets filled up quick.

We just chance into this place
We just chance into this place when we changed a previous reservation. A little wary when we had to cross a street under construction, but what we found was a very nice Italian restaurant in the Financial District. Food was very good and the wine list met our needs, but was not extensive. Rave reviews for the PEI mussels that were served in a pot with a white sauce. We're from Philadelphia, but we would definitely come back. Only drawback was some of the non-waiter staff served the food, but didn't understand English very well.

Life after Hurricane Sandy...
I am delighted to see that there is some life after the Hurricane. Our favourite Seaport is coming to life. We had never been to Acqua so we thought we would give it a try given its just down from where we live. We were delighted at the good food, good winelist and the busy vibe. It broke my heart to see my favourite place be destroyed so its nice to see that even with all the construction that Acqua is doing well. Let's hope that the good vibes and energy flows to the rest of the South sea Port Area.

Food to table Italian
Good for lunch or dinner. Excellent choices, which change with what is available. Deserts a bonus. Wine is good, and fairly priced: the focus is Italian, and red. Full Bar. Two or three tables outside, during warmer months. One block from the East River, and a couple from South Street Seaport.
Quality, thoughtful preparation of a mix between what you would expect an Italian NY restaurant to offer, and some Trieste/ Romano/ Northern Italian offerings, including cheeses, lots of fish choices, and pasta or thin crust pizza. Good grilled entrees.

Pride of Peck Slip
Because I consider Acqua my "secret," I hate to write about it--but this lovely, well-run rustic Italian deserves an audience. As soon as they finish the construction plaguing the square the restaurant sits on, it will be as wonderful outside as in. Great pastas, pizza, and more served by a gentle and attentive staff. It's like being in Italy but instead of airfare, just follow your GPS toward the Seaport.

Excellent Date Night
I brought my significant other here on a Wednesday night, and even though we seemed to be the only group who had made a reservation, I'm glad we did - the only empty table left in the restaurant was ready for us. The wine selection was more than adequate, and the bartender (though not server) was able to give an excellent recommendation. The food was also excellent. This is not, however, a place for a quiet evening. The restaurant echoes significantly, which creates quite a din when the place is full. This was not a problem for us; we enjoy hustle and bustle and had no difficulty talking over it, but the ambiance might not be appropriate for others.

It took us a while to actually
It took us a while to actually get service, but once we did everything was fine. Our server was very attentive, nice and helpful. the ambience was upbeat and fun. The home made pizzas were unbelievable. We also tried the chicken over cous cous. Succulent, seasoned chicken with very tasty cous cous. GREAT experience. Highly recommend.

Excellent Service - There was a minor incident. (Sometimes things happen.) The owner and a waitress went above and beyond the call of duty to rectify the situation.

The Gem of Downtown
Great little Italian spot downtown. Friendly staff and the manager is always there to welcome you. Great food with lots of windows for an open feeling.
8/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
delicious, low key italian
A lovely room with exposed brick walls and high ceilings, a relaxing space. The food is delicious, portions generous and delicious. Worth the trip to the Seaport!

When you're near South Street Seapo
Great location near South Street Seaport but out of the crowds. Casual bistro ambience. Fresh homemade creative pasta dishes, panninis, and salads. Nice wine list and full bar. Close to garage parking. Reasonable prices. What more could you ask for?
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Haven't been here in a while. While my dish was well prepared, I had to add a bit of salt, a rarity for me. Not sure if chef is using less salt on purpose or if there is a new chef. Never the less, my parpadalla was soft but by no means mushy and the porcini mushrooms were tender and firm. I bit of salt, and I was happy.

Skip the steakhouse, go Italian
In need for something different while being in NYC, this is definitely a restaurant to go to. The food is delicious, you feel like being at an Italian village restaurant with a hip touch and the crowd is an excellent mix of locals, tourists and business people. You immediately feel at home. And if you do not have place for a desert, just order the yummy tiramisu and share it. Enjoy!

A great find!
I happened upon this place with my boyfriend, and had a great experience sitting at the bar for dinner that we had to bring my mom back when she came to visit. The service was friendly and professional, the pasta was fantastic. We will be back!

Always a solid choice
I have a been here twice and both times the food was great. Servers are attentive. The atmosphere is nice; homey. It's halfway between work and my apartment and I think it's a wonderful place for a date, for a family dinner, for friends.
9/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were in NYC with friends for a few days. We ate at four restaurants in the Financial District and Acqua was our hands down favorite. The restaurant was a comfortable neighborhood gem. The food was delicious and the service friendly without being overbearing.

I totally went out on a whim and decided to take my family to a restaurant we have never been to to celebrate my birthday! What a pleasant surprise! I loved the food, atmosphere, our round table in the corner. 5 stars across the board for Acqua!!!!

Love Acqua - had a great dinner!!
We have not been in a while (pre Sandy) and were happy to find this place vibrant, busy and with great food/ great service... As we live downtown we are always looking to patronize local neighborhood gems! Acqua is a great example of perfect food, atmosphere and great service. We shared a fabulous pizza, yummy fresh raviioli (special) and an entree each. We were stuffed with great portion sizes (great value) and terrific food. We will def be back (soon!).
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Acqua was one of many restaurants shut down by Superstorm Sandy, though one of the earliest to reopen. We tried it for the first time in years, and were pleasantly surprised to find it surpassed our expectations, and any memory of prior meals there. Everything from the salads, to the pastas, and our fish entrees, was clearly fresh and delicious. Not a red-sauce place at all, and the food leaves you satisfied but not stuffed, due to its light touch. The wine list is also pretty robust, though did not have a chance to explore it. Service was very friendly.
Already looking forward to going back soon!

Food is fresh and nicely prepared. Had not been to this restaurant in several years and we were so glad we tried it again. It was all good. Live the easy atmosphere. Definitely will return soon

Great brunch place
Terrific place for brunch. A range of options from eggs to spinach ravioli to pizza. Acqua, can you post your brunch menu on your site? We were just lucky that someone told us about it. Excellent service, warm and personable. Frittata with asparagus and goat cheese was dry but everything else our party of 8 ordered was yummy. Great location near the South Street Seaport. Plenty of street parking on a Sunday.

Excellent Italian food in New York
I loved the atmosphere and the food at Aqua at Peck Slip. It is an emerging, exciting neighborhood and this restaurant fits right in. It is cosy and vibrant, and my cheese ravioli with sun dried tomato sauce was very good. I highly recoomend it.

DIFFICULT TO FIND
Lovely neighborhood restaurant with good food, execllent appetizers! Good Service.
Restaurant is difficult to find but worth it. Due to construction, street parking is almost non existent however there is a parking garage less then a block away.

This is a neighborhood favorite! Food is always fresh and good. The management and staff go put of their way to make you feel welcome. Especially for the winter months, it is warm and cozy. You can't go wrong with Aqua. Yum!
