Cosmopolitan Dining in Marin.
Delightful menu, expertly prepared, attentively served. Try the oysters anytime and the Kampachi was outstanding as well as the risotto! And after the Picco hamburger sliders I don't think I'll try a hamburger again anywhere else!
I just wish it had a little better view, but honestly, it only would have distracted us from appreciating the experience.

Picco never disappoints. I generally try to skip lunch when I'm going to dinner at Picco so that I have a good appetite and can try more dishes. Don't expect huge portions, but count on creative dishes with great flavors.
Make reservations as walk-ins are tough to snag, even on weeknights.
Bring friends so you can try more dishes.

Interesting menu, festive ambiance
We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Picco and we'll definitely go back. The menu is fairly large with many delicious choices using seasonal, fresh ingredients in interesting ways. Our party of 4 loved the tuna tartare, gazpacho, avocado bruschetta, sauted green beans with mint and almonds, mussels, grilled wild king salmon and mini-sliders. We also enjoyed the house-made sorbet (especially plum), and chocolate cake with burnt caramel ice cream.

Food was wonderful from appetizer all the way through dessert-this was one of the best meals I've enjoyed in Marin. Our server was also very sweet. There were a few missteps-drinks arriving after we'd received food-mains took a long time and though the hostess was very sweet about putting us at a quiet table, it was also the table that was over the air conditioning vent- freezing until they happened to cover the vent.
My fiancee took me here for my birthday and wanted to do something special, so made a point of mentioning my birthday when making reservations-in a busy popular restaurant such as Picco it's probably hard to make note of every special occassion-but a simple recognition of the event would have have made this a five star meal.

Always A Great Dining Experience
We go to Picco for special occasions. We mentioned it was our anniversary and two glasses of very good champagne arrived quickly to set the mood. My local (Bodega Bay) grilled salmon was moist and good--I am hard to please with salmon, as I prefer the more flavorful Atlantic. The grilled zucchini had a natural sweetness. The melon gazpacho shot that preceded it was a taste treat. My partner loved his pork chop with grilled peach, and the farro with spinach, and he is not a grains eater. The triple fruit sorbet with cookie was the perfect dessert. Matching the delicious food was the high quality of service we expect and receive at Picco--from the front of the house to the delightful and efficient server Whitney.
We will be back.

One of the best!
Picco one of the best restaurants in the bay area! The service is always great, the ambiance is wonderful, and the food is always outstanding!

Awesome and amazing service and food. Talent in the kitchen.
9/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
We go back for our favs, the avocado brushetta and the gnocchi! yum.

We had a quiet dinner last
We had a quiet dinner last week there. We found the staff and everything to be quite nice. Thanks

A dinner to remember
Picco is definitely my favorite restaurant! I had requested a table by the window and not only we were seated by the window, we had a booth!!! The service was impeccable and most of all the food was just amazing! The Birthday celebration was a huge success.

My favorite restaurant
I took my husband to Picco for the first time for our anniversary. He's not a foodie at all, so I wasn't sure what to expect from him. We were greeted with a glass of champagne each and sat in the back wine "cellar" room. The specialty cocktails are interesting and good. I especially liked the gin gin mule. Didn't care for the peach cocktail (don't remember what it's called). Everything we ordered was exceptional: tuna tartare, sliced albacore tuna (sashimi style), hen of the woods mushrooms, the always amazing avocado bruschetta, lamb, and meatballs. The lamb was the best I've ever tasted. If it weren't so expensive, I would eat here much more often. So good. Even my husband liked it, which is saying a lot.

Wonderful food, some rough edges...
The food was superb, every dish was tasty and delicious. There is no street parking to speak of, and they have valet service that wants a fiver up front. Not classy. Most valets collect after dinner. For the dining experience this restaurant offers, they ought to have complimentary parking and let us tip as appropriate. The hostess is jammed and slammed. This is a hot place, phones ringing like crazy. They ought to have a team back-up approach so her welcoming can be less hectic and more gracious--in line with who she is and what this place wants to be in Marin. The layout has tables too close together and aisles are too tight. Servers banged into my chair trying to serve others. This is Marin, right, not New York, or...?
9/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Such good food! We sat at the bar and was given so many great suggestions on food and drinks from the bartender Luke. This is a great spot for vegetarians, a lot of options that the omnivores will be excited about. Really really tasty!
9/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was our second visit. Again, the experience was excellent. The food quality is very high with very subtle and flavorful food which is creatively presented. I would have to say that this is one of the best restaurants I've ever gone to.
9/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
The prepared-from- scratch
The prepared-from- scratch risotto was exceptional. Every dish, including the salmon and a delicious berry pie was tasty and delicious. It's happening here!
9/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Dined here over 10 times and evey time the food and service are outstanding. One of if not the best restaurant in Marin
9/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
When my foodie girlfriend comes to town, I try to get just one stellar meal. We've been disappointed by ravely reviewed restaurants, and we are well aware of how Precious the dining experience is to Marinites. But this place frikking rocked my boat and hers. Once the awkward moment at the crowded front desk was past, and the host put us at a window table, we were in heaven. Our waiter (Sandor) was knowledgeable, at ease, un-rushed and generous with his stellar recommendations. "Yes, the risotto is very good," he told us, "but the gnocchi is wonderful." And it was. It all was. Terrific craftsmanship in the kitchen.

Things that come to mind:
Attention to detail. Freshness. Inventiveness.
A passion for for food.
A destination restaurant even if you lived in LA. Especially if you lived in LA!
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent neighborhood choice
Great recent newspaper review caused us to make a reservation....glad we did! Wood-roasted hen of the woods mushrooms were fabulous...
Went next door to Pizzeria Picco for Straus soft serve vanilla ice cream with olive oil and sea salt.....I dream of this dessert!
9/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Overall, the experience was good. I hadn't been here in a while and was excited to return. I ordered the fried chicken from the 'specials' menu and it was cooked perfectly...very juicy inside and great crunch outside. The mashed potatoes were OK; I forgot to order them without gravy, which I generally don't like. My friend thoroughly enjoyed his dinner from the main menu, although I no longer remember what he ordered. His salad beforehand (the least adventurous one) was really tasty. My only criticism of this restaurant is the noise level, which is very high. Apparently it doesn't bother a lot of other people, though. This place is always busy.
9/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Wonderful new find...3 of us were there to celebrate and it was a great place for that. Our waitperson was quite helpful in familiarizing us with the menu. She make good food suggestions and offered wine suggestions to pair with our choices. Risotto is excellent! It is make fresh every 30 minutes. The grilled shrimp was also a big hit. We shared a dessert which was good, but not great. Overall, it was a very good dining experience but definitely pricey.
9/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
My favorite once-in-a-while special occasion destination for a wonderful dinner.
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
We have enjoyed Picco on many occasions. This time we brought guests visiting from Thailand who are world travelers and used to good dining.
The food was excellent. I would say it has moved up a notch although not enough to justify 5 stars. We stayed with appetizers except for the mussels which gave us an opportunity to sample several taste treats.
When it comes to the food Picco still remains my #1 choice in Marin. A little noisy but not loud enough to drown out conversation
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
I don't review very often, but I felt the need this time. Picco is such a local gem of a restaurant. I heard about how great the food was for so many years, but didn't try it until this past weekend. And it exceeded my expectations. Each dish, with flavors carefully balanced, was better than the last. My favorites - the ahi tuna, risotto, and mussels. My only regret was that I was full before the dinner was over.
The only thing that I did not like - and why Marin in general as such a bad reputation - some of the folks there need to remember that Picco doesn't exist solely for them. Be thoughtful and considerate of those around you.
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
one of the Best in Marin
I adore this place and it's especially great with a group. This also makes it problematic to schedule people, because diners understandably just keep on noshing. The eggplant Parmesan was spectacular (new for me) and the standbys of tuna tartare and sliders were terrific. Just wish all of Marin wasn't trying to eat there at the sale time! Perhaps additional wait staff would help, especially during the Film Festival. I'll keep going back...
10/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
yummy but loud
The food was outstanding. I would go back many times. However, I wonder if they can do anything about the noise level. It is pretty bad. That said Picco is a cut above.
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food, listless service
The food is exceptional and we keep on coming back for more! But our service was uninspired, inattentive, and listless. Took 7 minutes to get acknowledged and another 10 minutes or so to get a glass of wine. The table next to us was visited with a server 5 times while we were visited once. Service was decidedly inconsistent and coverage is erratic. That said, while the place is trendy, the kitchen makes it all worthwhile.
10/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
A Stale Night with Menu Laziness
They seem to be resting on their laurels..........the steak seems like a moderate cut slopped on top of mashed potatoes and rushed out......not nearly as exquisite as the previous ribeye pre sliced and elegantly displayed...........the dessert menu has gone heavy heavy and fat..........really disappointing..........there seems to be a definite move to go to diner items to mass produce rather than focus on what brought Picco to the dance in the first place............
10/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent food, too much noise
1.The risotto was as good as it gets this side of the Atlantic; all the dinner items were exquisite, with the exception of the avacado on toast, which was heavy (which it turns out we did not order and was mis-delivered to our table).
2.The noise level, even in the quietest spot was such that I had to lean over and cup my ears to hear what my dinner guest was saying. They really should dampen the sound.
3. If I were a Michelin judge, I would award a Star on the basis of the quality of the food, but would take it away on the basis of the noise.
4. As to service, there were a mis-delivery. Otherwise, the server was attentive & knowledgeable, but spread thin over too many tables.

We were visiting and asked
We were visiting and asked a friend who lived in the Area what restaurants he would recommend
His first choice was Picco, we followed his advice and I am glad we did !!!
The whole experience was great from the moment we walked in.
Being from the East and eating at many great restaurants in and around NYC I thought that was the center for great food,
But I am not so sure any more
The experience at Picco has been an eye opening experience to the world of fresh wholesome ingredients and the locavore
Farm to Table movement..

Best Marin county restaurant.
Best Marin county restaurant. But a little too noisy for a romantic or social restaurant.
10/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
So happy to find Picco
The food was outstanding! I could have made a meal of the Asian style Tuna Tartare served on Sticky Rice Cakes. I'm not usually a huge fan of quail because it is hard to eat, but their version served with bacon and chard stuffing and toasted farro was amazing. The Tcho cake with toasted marshmallow and salted caramel ice cream was one of the best desserts I've ever eaten! The cocktails were extraordinary, my favorite being the Brown Derby. I would have rather been seated in the main dining room, rather than at one of two separate tables. Our waiter must have forgotten to fire our food because we waited 47 minutes between appetizers and entrees. Once the waiter realized his mistake, he avoided us like the plague. The manager was of no use.
10/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
food great - service?
Food was great as always. We had a table in the lower room in back. THe service was just OK as we had to wait a long time (15 mins+) between salad and our main course, and then we had to wait an additional 15 minutes foru our check after telling the waiter we were done... We'll defintely go back as the food is tremendous, but it was unusual to have service challenges...
10/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Quintessential.....favorite of all time.....close to perfection.
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Incredible food and service.
Incredible food and service. My wife and I had not been back to Picco Restaurant in a number of years. We found the food to be even better than we had remembered - the risotto, ahi on rice cakes and sliders were incredible
10/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Pico is amazingly consistent. Some dishes manage to always surprise but excellent food is always the norm. Service was the best ever.
10/22/2013 5:00:00 PM
Attention to detail....
We had dinner for our anniversary on Friday night. Our waiter, food and experience were excellent. Everyone was very sweet and celebratory about the milestone date.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Picco, a cut above
Terriific service. All food items are meticulously prepared with innovative additions. Bar service is first rate with excellent mixtures. Ice is clear cubed. I recommend the Rye Manhattan with marinated dark cherries. Make reservations as this is a popular place. $$$
10/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Portions are small, they say it's so you can share everything, though it kind of looks like they may just be relying on you ordering more items.
However a Zagat rating of over 25/30, indicating a premium restaurant, is in order. Certainly one the best in Marin.
10/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Have eaten dinner here many times and have always had a great dinning experience. The dishes are fresh and a culinary delight. A great place to share with out of town guests
10/31/2013 5:00:00 PM
Simple the Best
We have tried every restaurant in Marin and Picco is simply the best. The food is superb, service is wonderful and it is a totally great experience. Picco will always be our go-to restaurant in Marin.
10/31/2013 5:00:00 PM
Consistency in Food and Service
We generally sit in the same area so have the same server and bus person - both are consistently friendly, helpful and highly competent. Wine options by the glass are evolving but always interesting and of high caliber. We don't adventure much beyond our usual dinner of gnocchi and side of broccolini because they are consistently well prepared and delicious. No complaints. Love this restaurant.
10/31/2013 5:00:00 PM
Serving some of the tastiest dishes
Picco continues to serve some of the tastiest dishes in Marin County. The risotto (served only every 30 minutes and made from scratch) is superb and they constantly change the ingredients, so if you have had it before, it's got completely different flavors this time around. Eggplant parmesan was delicious and prepared with a wholesome red sauce. Avocado bruschetta--super tasty in a world of own. Churros for desert rounded out our meal.
11/2/2013 5:00:00 PM
Good food, OK service
We enjoyed an anniversary dinner at Picco last night. Overall, a good experience. The food was great, and the "designed to share" concept worked well for a romantic dinner. The service was OK, but not amazing. Long periods of waiting without someone coming to check on us.
11/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
Go for the best
I believe that that Picco is the best restaurant in Marin County and there is no close second.
11/20/2013 4:00:00 PM
We had a great time and really loved this place, and hope to come back whenever in the area!
11/24/2013 4:00:00 PM
great drinks - ok food
The drinks are always incredible - but the food last friday night was just ok - I think they had an off night.
11/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
Timing was off in serving dishes
Picco is among my top two restaurants as "best in Marin"[ the other is Caprice in Tiburon]. I have dined at Picco on numerous occasions. However, for any restaurant that has adopted a "tappas" format, the delivery of the dishes must have a rhythm. Sometimes it is perfect at Picco, but, alas, Friday night, it was off. Wrong dish delivered, 20 minute wait for the next. Fortunately, we had a relatively quiet table, so that we could talk in the interim, however, it even took about 8 minutes [I timed it} trying to get our server's attention - it appeared that she was serving a lot of tables. Consequently, at least on last Friday night, I had to conclude that Picco was understaffed.

I absolutely love this place.
I absolutely love this place. My husband and I have been coming for years and have never been disappointed.

Always outstanding food and
Always outstanding food and service. We LOVE this restaurant. It's not the cheapest but there are so many great dishes to share that the bill is still reasonable.
