7 course meal
We had the 7 course chef menu and we had a wide variety of tastings. Just a few notes:
Mussels miso soup could have been a bit more seasoned otherwise came hot, calamari salad was fantastic just the right spices on the fried calamari and the dressed sald light and clean, the small 2 disc like crabcakes resembled a 50 cent piece and definatey not real crab, the whitefish carpaccio just fine, the chicen was very good along with the saute spinach and mushrooms but the best of all was the 4 sushi rolls and the 4 sushi pieces!, dessert was a shared 1 plate which I thought should have each had dessert served!
The 2 tvs had Asian program on not very interesting but the background music was nice!

Best sushi in the city!
The sushi was amazing. Have eaten at the top sushi restaurants in the city and think this one is the best based upon sushi quality and selection, cocktails, decor and service.

Always fresh. The staff is excellent. The only complaint I ahev is that the dishes all came out so quickly that we did not have an excuse to linger.

Great space, great food!
My friends and I wanted to try a new sushi place with good food and lots of room to enjoy (our favorite joint is way too small). The decor here is so cool, and the staff put our orders in, but waited to make them until our friend, who was running late, arrived! I stuck with the basics (spicy tuna and yellowtail rolls), while my friend got the Volcano roll.Definitely worth a taste!

Best Sushi Experience in Philly
The family and I went here for mother's day dinner. All of the entrees (Chirashi, Sushi Combo, a few specialty rolls) were incredibly fresh and beautifully-presented. When we first sat down it was a bit drafty, but we mentioned it to our server and he immediately fixed the problem. The motto at Zento seems to be 'Above and Beyond'. Definitely my favorite sushi restaurant in Philadelphia.

Some of the best sushi in Philly
The square sushi and white tuna sashimi alone were worth the trip!

Great food and great service
Having never been there before, we were thrilled with Zento. Besides being quickly seated and greeted by our waitress, we were paid attention to throughout the evening. They were attentive and not overbearing. The food was great, be sure to try the lobster tempura. Ambiance was unique and comfortable. Try it you'll like it.

Wonderful Find while visiting Phila
The food was delicious, the service was very friendly and efficient, and the prices were reasonable. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes Japanese cuisine.

Restaurant to ourselves
This is the second time I have gone to Zeno. This time my sister and I went around 5 on a Wednesday for dinner. The restaurant is in Old City but surrounded by lots of little restaurants it would be easy to be overseen by passers by. Like the first time I was there, we walked in to find an empty restaurant. It's sad to me because the sushi is outstanding. Very fresh and obviously seriously made. I had the branzino roll this time and I'm still thinking about how good it was days later.

Absolutely great sushi
Perfect service, large and varied menu and freshest tastiest sushi. We have been there four times and it has always been great.

Fresh & tasy no-hangups sushi
For raw fish lovers like me, this is an affordable option for well prepared, fresh sushi. The service was great and attentive. We ordered the $40 Sushi and Sashimi, and split it between the two of us, with miso soup and seaweed salad. Our order was fairly basic, as was the food served -- really tasty, but I felt we didn't let the chef wow us. I will definitely go back to try the specialty sushi rolls, which looked great on the menu. Given the efficiency of the service and the great location, it was possible to have or meal and add on a movie at the Ritz (or next time a show at the Arden), which is within easy walking distance. I'm definitely going back.

Good food in a cozy atmosphere
The food was excellent and the service itself was good. Friendly staff and a short wait for food. Not much of a wine selection maybe only 2 or 3 but plenty of sake. Would definitely go back again!

Still Very Good
When they went "upscale" the emphasis shifted more to the bar--but the food is still very good. Not as good as Zama, but better than most sushi around Philly.

My husband enjoyed the sushi and I enjoyed White Peach Martini, it was delicious!

Great for sushi lovers
Aside from not having a few of my favorite items (Uni,ikura) everything was outstanding. Selection of chilled sake was very well done.

The atmosphere was incredible. I are there before outside... But this time we decided on goin inside due to the hot weather. Glad I did. It was very cozy and quiet. Outside its noisey because it is on a busy street. I recommend eating inside. And the food was great, as usual. Very tasty and beautiful. The server did not offer us something to drink, he just gave us ice water. I thought that was a bit weird but it did save us on the check. Overall I had an excellent time and I would recommend Zento to anyone who loves Japanese!

The service and the food were impeccable. I took my fiancee there for her birthday and I was very pleased at the decision to choose this restaurant. It was one of the most memorable moments in her life to this point. She wants to go back for more than just special occasions.

Solid night out
Zento was a great night out for 6 of us. I don't know if it was my most favorite Japanese place ever, but it was certainly very good. The restaurant is beautiful and there is a nice selection, if not exotic. The restaurant worked perfectly with my mostly meat & potatoes husband and my vegan friends. My husband did say his chicken teriyaki was a little dried out and they were out of the beef. However, everything else that the rest of us ordered was very good.
Take note: You can't park on Chestnut Street near the restaurant after 10pm or the city will tow your car.

Sit in the back room
...otherwise, you will be sitting on high stools, sandwiched against the bar. I haven't sat upstairs, though, so I don't know how that is. The food at Zento is good; the layout is a little bizarre. But don't let that stop you from checking it out!

Great sushi and ambiance
Been in love with this place ever since it was a tiny restaurant just up the street from it's current location. If you love sushi this is a place you have to try. Two words...branzino roll!

We arrived early but they
We arrived early but they accommodated us quickly (although we were happy to wait). Service was outstanding. Just the best - and the food, for me, was very good. I am not a Sushi person but my husband is and he said the eel was fantastic. Very enjoyable evening all around.

If you are looking for fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced sushi this is your spot. All the sushi was very flavorful and tasty. They have a full bar, but you can bring your own bottle of wine for a $10 corkage fee. I will definitely be back to visit this intimate spot in old city!

Really Excellent Sushi
Unusual combinations with great flavor and freshness. Now my favorite sushi spot!

Everything beautiful & delicious!
We picked this restaurant without knowing what to expect. We were very happy with the food and service we received. We had shrimp dumplings that were exquisite. Along with others apps and sushi rolls. The food came out quickly and our server was great. Highly recommend checking this place out.

Excellent food and atmosphere
The restaurant is small, but very artfully decorated and such a creative use of space. Beyond the bar/entry area, the small dining room opens up with a vaulted ceiling, where bare brick walls from adjacent buildings are visible on each side. You can see a piece of Philadelphia's history by looking at these walls. The food was excellent. 99.9% of the time that I visit a sushi restaurant, I eat sushi - but on this occasion, I wanted hot food. I had a bowl of the tofu miso soup, which was warm and comforting, followed by the miso-marinated Chilean Seabass, served with mixed green tossed in an onion dressing. The seabass was AMAZING - it was delicate, buttery, and flavorful. I'm salivating just thinking about it! I highly recommend this place.
