My first time here celebrating
My first time here celebrating with a friend for his birthday, and we absolutely loved it! The wine was delicious, the beer was great, and the pizza we ate was phenomenal. Can't wait to go back!

And I had thought it was just pzza. Great food with the added wood fired cooking method means super flavors. We shared the bread plated with yummy smoked butter, the pork belly (melt in your mouth) and the short rib, which was outstanding. Even the cauliflower side was finished with a wood fire "sear" and it worked.

Best pizza crust in CO
Basta has some of the best pizza in Colorado and possibly the world. What allows this is the quality of the crust which happens to be some of the best anywhere. All the ingredients and processes here are top notch. Try the pork belly and leek burrata. The service here is also consistently quality. Oh, and if that's not enough, they have great drinks.

Fabulous food awaits
If you're lucky enough to snag a table at Basta on a night when the bad weather isn't keeping people away, start your evening off with oysters -- baked or raw -- and you'll wonder why you never ordered them before. Then follow up with the pork belly on a bed of polenta along with the duck rillettes. If you're still hungry for dinner, try the short ribs or the house-specialty wood oven chicken. Of course as your wait person for a fabulous wine -- any from their list will delight. Bon appetit!

good food beyond pizza
Food is very good and different. The only problem we had was that we ordered pizza as an appetizer and it came out with some of the dinner food and some of the dinner food came out first. Service is good and food is surprisingly different, good and we great eye appeal.

Boulder dining hotspot
Tasty creative pizza. Wonderful small plates. Generous salad portions.
Noise level so loud
It's unbearable. Ruins the dining experience!

Basta is really hidden away in an apartment complex, so the GPS was confused about how to find it. There is a wide selection of very different pizzas. I thought there was a wider variety of other non-pizza selections, based on the website, but everyone found something they enjoyed. I had the lasagna which was very light and flavorful.

1. Kind of hard to find, but a very nice location.
2. Excellent waiter
3. Absolutely a great place for friends to come and eat and talk. Not a place for an elegant or cozy dinner.
4. Very good pizza and homemade pasta. Duck rilletye was fantastic.
5. Excellent wine list with good selection of Italian and American wines from wineries I do not normally see and at a moderate price.

Interesting menu with both regular and seasonal choices. Food was tasty, especially the pizza, and the service was friendly and well informed.

Awesome, as usual
The food here keeps on progressing to the next level. Kelly and the culinary team are constantly trying new ideas while maintaining all the favorites. There is no better pizza in Boulder or Denver.

Pizza's there are really good. Lasagna was very nice. I recommend the roasted vegetables salad.

This place is hard to find (located in the middle of a condo complex off Arapahoe &38th) but well worth it. The food and drinks are great and the service is excellent. The menu reads like foodie-only fare, with interesting ingredients and unique combinations, but the flavors were good in a traditional sense. Don't be afraid to try something that sounds strange! There are better pizzas in the Denver/boulder area, but this place is the total package. Great for a date or group night out.

Out of the way, but worth the visit
A little noisy, but pleasant nonetheless. There is a varied pizza menu including several gluten-free offers which were delicious. We ordered so everything would be presented family-style. There was plenty to eat and all of it was delicious. The service was attentive and the wine pairings were on target. Even though the location is a little odd (in the middle of apartment complex), it's worth seeking Basta out, especially as a location to have dinner with friends.

Great food...who knew something as simple as a cheese pizza could taste so awesome. We ordered one for our 6 yr old and he loved it just as much as we did. Fresh produce made all the difference. The waitress recommended an asparagus appetizer...which was great as well. The staff was friendly. Pricing was reasonable.
The only negative thing about this place is the location. It is not a bad location...it is actually quite nice, but because it is inside the apartment complex it is difficult to find. We had to call the place for directions and drove with the person on the phone until we found it. Definitely going back to this one.

Great Boulder Gem!
We have been going to Basta ever since they opened and LOVE this restaurant. The atmosphere is quaint and delightful, (no loud music). We took my son and fiance out for dinner for his birthday and had one of the best dinners we have ever had. I often get the date and blue cheese salad which is fantastic. The roasted vegetable salad is another winner. For dessert they make a charcoal vanilla ice cream that is out of this world! We love this restaurant. The staff are great. They will always accommodate my food allergies to make me a superb pizza. The pizzas are always excellent!

Creative Italian Food
The shared 'gnocchi" was outstanding. The house made ice creams were wonderful. The pizza was great.
6/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had salads and split a pizza. The salads were awesome...fresh, nice proportions and great combination of veggies. The pizza was fantastic as well...love the wood fired crust!

On Fridays we do Basta
Our Family loves Basta. They only do lunch on Fridays and we are often there. I love the date and baby green salad, my husband loves the roasted veggie salad, which is also excellent! I think their Gluten free pizza is the best around! Due to some food allergies, when I am hungry enough for a pizza, they always make a special one for me, which are always to die for. Basically, we love this place, the food, the servers, etc.

Unique and Enjoyable
I had one of the best meals I've ever had at Basta a few weeks ago: kind of a short rib, with bone marrow and served with wood-smoked mashed potatoes. Wow! I've been telling everyone about it ever since. The trouble is, you never know when it will be on the menu. See, Basta has a very limited menu, usually 3 or 4 entrees (other than pizza). On the plus side, almost everything offered seems to be uniquely prepared and delicious. As for the pizzas, I like them; my wife is only so-so on them. On this visit, I had a beef dish (hanger steak?), which was good, but not as drop dead delicious as the short rib. My wife had the chicken and liked it very much. I hope Basta continues to emphasize its unique and authentic approach to food preparation.

Bravo to Basta!!
We love coming to Basta. It's always great and enjoyable!!!! A restaurant where you feel very welcomed!

Wood Fired Over....mmmmmmmmm
Heard this had the best wood fired pizza in Boulder.... we ordered the Peppers and the Arugula pizzas, the fish (striped bass) and two salads (romaine and baby lettuce). The salads and fish were outstanding. We really enjoyed the pizzas but wouldn't go so far as to say they were the best in Boulder. Looking forward to trying the chicken next time.
Decor is understated and pleasant. Staff was great. Would highly recommend - go early or make reservations..

This is a hidden gem. If they
This is a hidden gem. If they were in a high traffic area they would do three times the business. The food is fantastic and the the service is impeccable, and I'm a tough critic. My ten year old son spilled his soda. In less than 20 seconds 3 staff members were table sides with mops and rags. The areas was cleaned and a new soda was in place. They have the service of the 4 star restaurant at a pizza place. I live in Chicago, but if I lived in Boulder, I'd eat he every week.
7/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
The best-kept secret in Boulder isn't much of a secret anymore, and every night is busy now. Make a reservation, wait, stand, do whatever you have to do and you will not be disappointed by Chef Kelly Whitaker's food. Simple, focused and delicious; wood-fired bliss.
7/29/2013 5:00:00 PM
We take the extra home to put on grits the next day. The food is always outstanding. A testament to quality ingredients and expert preparation.
7/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
We always return for the arugula and daisy pizzas. Even gluten-free, they're the best in town. Great cocktails, too!

JUst discovered it and found
JUst discovered it and found out we've been missing a little gem. Interesting dishes with excellent preparation and taste. The wine list was surprisingly extensive.
8/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
I think it's the crust that makes it so good, but the toppings are the star. The side dishes are great too.
8/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
Basta never fails to satisfy!
The food is delicious, the ambiance low key and inviting - urban yet warm; the service friendly and attentive. The roast chicken is the best in town and the pizzas are amazing! Everything on the menu is fresh and largely locally sourced. It doesn't get better for dinner with friends or family.
8/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Tasteful and tasty food!
I have yet to be disappointed - Basta consistently provides excellent food in a relaxed but energetic setting. The pizza is superb and creative! Appetizers always delicious. Extremely well-priced considering the high quality.
8/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
A nice find!
My sister and I went here the other night and we were thrilled. The food was great! The service was awesome! Our waitress was the best - I beleive her name was Karen. She made our experience first class. Highly recommend Basta
8/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Looks to have great pizza, but I went for the whole roasted fish. Was just excellent. My burrata appetizer was inventive and tasty, too. Great relaxed service to match the ambiance and town. Highly recommend!

First time, but not the last
This was a good find. The food is quite good and the service overall was good. beware they bring dinner while you are still eating the salad. I love that they source their ingredients from local farmers and this means fresh tasting food! We will go back to try more of their offerings.

Best food in Boulder
Basta never fails to deliver very high quality food. We have dined here several times and have never been disappointed.
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was definitely one of our top 5 meals eaten in Colorado since we moved here in 2007. We started with the burrata. We then enjoyed two specials- baby lettuce peach salad and duck cantelloni. We then split the winner winner chicken dinner. Amazing! Every bite! Obviously we took food home with us which allowed us to enjoy our meal twice. The ingredients were super fresh and you could tell our meal was made with love. This dinner made me feel so thankful I am fortunate enough to experience such a great meal. I'd highly recommend you head straight to this restaurant!!
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
I'm absolutely using every ounce of self-control to not head back for my next meal. Delicious, fresh and creative food, and shockingly reasonable with superb service. Thanks, Basta. I'm not sad to be breaking up with Pizzeria Locale or Radda.

I think about this place days later
In fact, I am still thinking about my Friday night dinner there.......on Tuesday. Amazing. Fabulous. Beyond delicious. How can something be beyond delicious? Because "delicious" is not enough to do it justice. Yes. I truly feel that Basta is THAT good. I have never been disappointed here. Everything I have ever experienced at Basta is so heavenly it is sinful. Friday's menu: the small plate of munson corn with ham special - I did not want the plate to end. The cart-driver pizza - so many flavors and the best pizza crust in Boulder. Perhaps a little heavy on the fennel pollen. The pizza crust is thin, with the perfect amount of chewy / crunchy / smoky-ness. Your hands will be sooty after but it will be well worth it. Love this place!
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
The place was hopping when I got there and stayed busy the whole time. The menu is simple, but everything was fantastic and nicely presented. Every detail of the food was obviously well thought out. I had the whole fish and two of the salads, romaine heart...simple, yet satisfyingly delicious, and wood fired vegetable. We ordered olives, bread, a special appetizer with mozzarella and leek. The leek was perfection, delicate and delicious. Three of us shared the whole fish...with everything else we had, it was plenty for all of us. The fish was delicious, although at this point my senses were so satisfied that I was almost not hungry. Afterwards we had a chance to meet the chef who is a gracious and charming man.
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had a fantastic experience from appetizers to a trip of in house made ice creams, one of which was called Campground Vanilla. I can't describe it, but it will be one of my favorites forever. The staff from the hostess, waiters and the owner all made our evening perfect. Go as soon as you can!
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food was great!
Basta was a true dining pleasure, although the atmosphere was a little too noisy for my taste. Recommend their small dinner plate, or sharing large dinner plate. My wife had the pulled pork shoulder over pollenta, and it was killer! I had pizza, and it was very good as well.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Basta has the feel of an East coast pizzeria but with lots of class. Great pizza and wood oven options . Smoked ice cream very unique and surprisingly good. Very nice wine selection (Italian/Spanish). The place is quite loud so not the best for conversations. Would definitely eat here again.
10/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Wonderful and Reasonable
This is a great space in a design centered new Boulder neighborhood. The food is sophisticated and tasty. The short menu is carefully selected. Wood-fired flavor rules the roost and even this Chicago boy has to say the dough is unsurpassed'
10/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
always consistently excellent
Friday lunch at Basta is always worth the drive from Castle Pines.
The friendly service the outstanding food and delicious wines keep us coming back.....We especially love the burratta cheese with carmelized leeks and crispy pork belly, the roasted vegetable salad which changes all the time.
And then the pork sandwich or piadini which is to die for and only available on Friday at lunch
Top it off with the peppers pizza and add mushrooms and prociutto and it is heaven!
you must have some amazing wine or craft beer and save room for the best coffee in Colorado I highly recommend a double cappuccino
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
I will be back but......
I loved their food. Food was fantastic and amazing!! but it was extremely noisy. At one point, they turned up the music. It became insane! I had to shout to communicate with my friends.
The service was moderate. I saw that each time when guests were leaving the restaurant, the host or servers open the door for them. but when we, colored people, did not get opened the door when we left. They surely noticed when we left.... felt a bit discriminated.

Great spot for really good
Great spot for really good food. A bit on the pricey side for simple dishes. Also, they were out of a few items on the menu.
11/1/2013 5:00:00 PM
Basta is a friendly neighborhood place with good pizzas and salads. We like their wine selections too. Limited selection of pizzas and their oven might be too hot. Crust doesn't get a chance to get crisp before it starts burning.
11/2/2013 5:00:00 PM
The menu selections are interesting and creative. The service was very good. The food was delicious. We ordered pizzas and the crust was amazing. Love the concept of wood burning oven roasted food. Would definitely go again.

Wow. We stumbled on this place online and chose it as we had a craving for pizza. We found a lot more than we anticipated. There was a 3 course prix fixe menu as they were participating in First BIte Boulder (it ends on the 23rd so hurry in). We both had a lovely glass of tempranillo that went great with the lamb tartare and raclette, which were both a fun start. Rich, but not too heavy. The pizza with pork belly and arugula was good, but to be frank, the kitchen outdid themselves with the chitarra pasta with uni and fermented black garlic. Unreal. The desserts were a nice way to finish. Our waiter (also terrific) recommended a great glass of amaro. All said, the talent in the kitchen is obvious. We'll be back to see more!
