We were at Jules for an early dinner before a show in the area. It was quiet at 6:00 pm but the place is generally quite lively and loud later in the evening due to the fun jazz music featured nightly. Our party of three enjoyed the onion soup, Salmon, Sea Bass special and hamburger among us. Cheese cake for dessert was yummy. Service was smart, observant and genuinely friendly. Jules really is a neighborhood gem. Highly recommended. Go!

We had a great time at Jules. We were in the back so we could hear both the music and have a conversation. The good was very good. Only thing we didn't like us that they only take cash or Amex

We had a great time at Jules:
We had a great time at Jules: the food was good, the wine was great, the live jazz music was spectacular. We were 3 and we had mostly appetizers: cheese bistro platter, pate de campagne and some mushroom mix. We sat down at the back, as the music was too loud to have a conversation, but it's definitely a nice experience for a weekend dinner.

What a super place. A hidden gem in New York. The food is delicious and the wine-list is super. Excellent evening! As a bonus the Jazz which was played that evening rocked the place.

I've been going since the early 90s, and have always loved it. Super solid French food, small but great wine list with great beers as well, and live jazz every night. Hard too beat. Remember, only cash and amex!

Food & decor are great but
Food & decor are great but service is the best. Nicest people in the world that will make you feel like home. Live jazz makes it perfect to share with people from out of town who you want to impress.

The food is hit and miss - nothing is bad, but some things are less than exceptional (the schnitzel) while other things are great (the mussels, the skate, the onglet). The gem of this place is the live jazz nightly and the giant mugs of hofbrau,

Great little spot
I had been to Jules two years ago and remembered having a good experience. Went back with two friends for a small birthday dinner and it was great. The atmosphere is energetic but not overwhelming - evokes what you think a Parisian bistro in the 20s or 30s would be like. The experience was great - no drama. We had to move our reservation back a half hour, and their were no problems. Our waiter was very friendly. The food was fantastic, and the price isn't bad. Jules is a great value. We've all said we're going to go back again.

Excellent food. I loved the cucumber salad especially. The wine in a little pricey and there are no liquor drinks. The jazz was wonderful. We will definitely go back.

Great atmosphere, good food!
I was excited to go to Jules because the live jazz had gotten great reviews on Yelp and other sites. I, of course, was running late for my reservation but when I got there my friends had made it on time and ordered the escargot. They were incredible. We also orderd the pork rillettes and the foie gras, both of which were excellent. The foie was better than the rillettes, but that is to be expected. They should also probably serve both of those dishes with more bread for sharing.
I had the steak frites, which was excellent. I got the black pepper bearnaise and it came out cold. :( I preferred the hanger steak that my friend ordered, the truffle risotto was incredible. Cocktails were great, if a bit limited by the lack of liquors.

We went for French Restaurant week but should have read Jules web site. They really weren't offering special meal prices. What started out as a less expensive evening was not. The service was excellent and friendly. The food was great and I just loved the jazz band. The cold beet and orange soup was great. Will be going back.

Live Jazz with decent food.
Great place to catch some live music while you eat. The menu is bistro, well prepared, tasty, but not too special. It is a lot of fun. Make sure you get the escargot, it is packed with parsley and quite tasty.
Jules has air conditioning, but on the hotest days they seem to open the front instead. It was quite hot and muggy while I was there and i was a little unconfortable. Might be better to visit in the cooler months. Also, the place is quite packed. people are seated almost on top of each other.
While I have some compaints, I really like this place and have been here several time over the years.

Perfect for an evening where you want great food in a relaxed, cool setting with live music (jazz) playing throughout. The sepia lighting and the French staff add to the flavor.

Authentic French in the E. Village
Jules bistro is an absolute neighbor gem, tucked away in the East Village of Manhattan. The bistro's ambiance is reminiscent of Paris with live jazz enticing people from the streets to stop in for a visit and enjoy some French wine and delicacies. Whether it's escargot smothered in a garlic butter or beef tartare, Jules Bistro it's delicious.

This place is the best hidden Gem in New York for breakfast and brunch. Live jazz and fantastic food! Bring a date. It's very romantic...

Great atmosphere and food
This was my second time visiting Jules and I absolutely love it because the food is amazing and they have a variety of live jazz groups playing 7 days a week and have no cover charge.

A bit of France in NYC
My boyfriend and I made reservations for a Sunday dinner. He had the moules frites and I, the gnocchi de veau. Both were delicious but the sauce on my veal was just a little too salty for my taste - otherwise, it was divine, especially the gnocchi: soft, pillowy, and coated in a deliciously pungent gorgonzola sauce. Superb!
The staff is also super friendly and polite. And the atmosphere is intimate, cozy, and jazzy - perfect for a date (unless it gets too loud for the live music, but we were a bit too early for that). In the end, Jules Bistro has great food, staff and atmosphere, and the place isn't pretentious at all! Highly recommended. Just note that they only accept American Express and cash.

One of the Best or maybe The Bes
When you combine, great live music, great food and great service you are in heaven. This is a fantastic place where dreams come true. The Waitresses dance and sing in various languages make JULE BISTRO very special and unique.
thanks for the memories,

I took my boyfriend here as a surprise for his birthday on a Monday night. Started a bit quiet and empty, but once the jazz band started playing at 8, people started rolling in! It wasn't packed by any means but it was lively. The food was phenomenal! My boyfriend is French, and I lived in France with a professional chef, so our standards are probably higher than the average American when it comes to French cuisine. Everything was delicious, highly recommend ordering a number of the appetizers (we ended up ordering 6, and we were stuffed to the brim). The service is great because they can speed it up or slow it down to your liking. We were too full for dessert but we will definitely be going back!

Great service, food and live jazz.
The service and food are great. The ambiance and live jazz with no cover puts Jules at the top of my list of favorite places to go in the East Village.
11/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
even that the table for 2 space is really reduced(very common in NYC) they manage to do the best possible. I highly recommend to go early(around 7:30) so it is possible to use the adjacent table. The service is REALLY outstanding, they are not buzzing around your table but in the second you need they come. The food came pretty fast. A mandatory place to go if you are in NYC. the night we went there was a nice jazz band(I am not a fan of jazz but my girlfriend say they where amazing, in my opinion it was the perfect sound for a dinner).

Transporting you to Paris
My mother came to New York for Thanksgiving. The entire East Village was dead except for Jules. It was candlelit, lively, and filled with beautiful people. Its as if we stumbled into Paris. We were seated in the front next to the live jazz band. The waiters, managers, and waitresses were doing everything in their power to make us feel special. They were all so charming and charismatic. Our waitress even stood up and belted an impressive melody. We were given complimentary champagne, wine, seltzer water, and our meals were delicious. It was such an enjoyable moment. Now no other restaurant I take my mom is as good as Jules. It set the bar too high.

Good food, friendly service, pleasant atmosphere. Cosy and romantic. We had endive au jambon - excellent, lamb stew and cassoulet - very good. Wine by the glasses - nothing remarkable. Overall very nice experience.
