Best Mexican in NYC.
Brilliant, high cuisine Mexican food (and this from a Californian who turns his nose up at the largely feeble NYC attempts at the genre). Fresh, truly excellent, and with distinctly modern touch. This is not your mom's gloppy frijoles place! Only downside is that the place is rock concert loud.
Notwithstanding the generally spicy and "new Mexican" take, there seemed to be a lot of happy kids at our relatively early dining time.

If you're going for happy
If you're going for happy hour, you have to sit at the bar. Which was unfortunate, because I wanted happy hour and they won't allow it at a table. That was a bit of an upset and kind of obnoxious, but the food was absolutely fantastic, as was the atmosphere.

Always an amazing meal. So happy to see them still flourishing in Park Slope!

Always ask for the Garden!
I love Fonda. The food was fresh, yummy and the drinks were good. Only two things: our appetizers came out close to the time of the main entrée and the rice and beans portions were small especially since two of us had ordered and they combined it. One more thing...the reservationist was rude on the phone when I booked and when I came in.

Fonda continues to serve outstandin
Fonda continues to serve outstanding food and margaritas. My friend said her huevos rancheros were the best she's ever had!

Fonda - my favorite Mexican
Fonda is my favorite Mexican restaurant, but it's not your average tacos and burritos spot. The food is more upscale without being "out there" or expensive. Guacamole is excellent. I frequently order their delicious Pork Adobado, but this time I went with a dish of grilled shrimp - yum. They usually have good specials too, and several tasty seafood dishes.
They have a nice choice of margaritas (I usually have the Rosalinda with hibiscus) and they're only $800 or $9.00 - a bargain for Park Slope!
On the down side you usually have a long wait for a table, and it's really noisy and packed inside. The back garden is great, and the service is always friendly.

the wait was about 1/2 hour
the wait was about 1/2 hour even with reservations. But overall we had a nice time. Food is exceptional.

Great food but LOUD
We've eaten there before & enjoyed the food (& service); but Tuesday night we could barely hear each other across a small table, & moved once for less overbearing acoustics (which later deteriorated as well). Find out when they're not so jammed & dine there then!

Excellent Modern Mexican Food
Great drinks, hibiscus margarita, delicious food, excellent service and our open table reservation for 5 was ready and waiting on a very busy Saturday night. Excellent all round.

I love Fonda
This is the best Mexican food, I could drink the pasilla salsa and I adore their homemade tortillas. I love the guacamole, the jicama salad, the taquitos and much more.

Great food. A little loud.
The food and the service were both excellent. It is a small space and the noise has no place to go but back down into the room. It is NOT a reason not to go. You just need to know it won't be a quiet evening. We enjoyed it and will be back.

The food was delicious and
The food was delicious and the service was great - they did not rush us out and offered wonderful suggestions for our meal. The space was A little cramped but all in all a great night - I will definitely be returning.

Last minute Friday night plans we went to Fonda - early, otherwise we probably wouldn't have been able to get a res for the same night. Really great Hibuscus margarita. The special appetizer was a green ceviche which was really, really good - spicy, innovative, with olives, apples - yum! We had the special pork shoulder and standard stuffed poblanos which were both really good - nice sauce.

Excellent service all around! Make sure to order the mole! I had it with my veggie enchiladas, and they were excellent!

Always a pleasure
Once again, a great meal at a neighborhood all-star. Guac never disappoints and the pork abodo was flavorful and meltingly tender.

Great Mexican Food and Drinks
My husband and I went to this restaurant after reading some reviews and it did live up to it
s reputation. Food and drinks were excellent. Place has indoor and outdoor seating. On the negative side, because it is a small place, it is quite noisy if you don t mind that.Service was quick. Good turn around time, without feeling rushed.

This place is a find in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The food is fresh, innovative and delicious (the guacamole is incredible). We were in the outdoor patio and enjoyed the food and the ambience. Highly recommend this place.

My Fav Neighborhood Brunch Spot
I live down the street from this little gem and have loved it every time! The salsas &sauces are delicious, and you can't go wrong with the brunch menu, complimentary guava & mango mimosas included!

love this spot!
Always leave feeling stuffed but the food is too good!!

Good for a Date Night
Leave the kids at home. The restaurant seems a bit tight to bring in kids that would need more space.
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
one of the best mexican restaurants
The food is so, so delicious. The homemade guacamole with soft, warm tortillas are a fantastic way to start off the meal. The carne asada and camarones adobe were big hits too. The staff is warm and welcoming too, which is refreshing in the restaurant world these days. We will go back again and again to try other things on the menu!

La Fonda BK
I don't want to blow the whistle, but I think this is the best Mexican food in NY right now.

Best Mexican food
Everything is fresh. The tortillas are to die for. Made there at the restaurant. Great happy hour worth your money
10/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent drinks. Guacamole out of this world - spiced according to your taste. Had scallops and shrimp for dinner - the largest, perfectly cooked scallops I've had in a long time. Intricate sauce that complemented the seafood beautifully. Too bad the restaurant is not larger - it gets very crowded and a bit noisy but still great ambience.

Always Love This Place
One of my favorites in all of NYC. We come here often and for good reason.

Unexpected Find in Park Slope
Just a really, really great restaurant -- probably the best Mexican food I've had in NYC. Lots of different options, amazing spices and delicious subtleties in the different dishes. Great service, good atmosphere. Make sure to make a reservation because it fills up, even mid-week.
10/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food, heavy on the sauce in all dishes, excellent cocktails, loud, slightly disorganized getting us a table
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was fabulous. Delicious
The food was fabulous. Delicious and memorable Mexican dishes. Can't wait to return. Small, lively and filled with people. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Despite the crowd, we did not feel rushed at all.

It's my third time at Fonda and I'm never disappointed. Our meal served in the garden under the very useful heat lamps was as unique and delicious as can be. We had shrimp and duck, both wonderful, a carafe of red sangria and the special Choolate Y Pan de Muerto dessert, a wonderful thick, dark hot chocolate into which we dunked an orange scented sweet roll. We were so full and happy. Indoors, this restaurant is a bit tight and noisy but in the backyard, we had space and quiet. It was great. We'll be back again and again.

This was my 2nd time at Fonda for Brunch and the food was incredible each time!

Another epicurean trip to Mexico
Went here the other night for my wife's birthday. Good thing I made reservation on here as they were packed on a Thursday evening. I take that as a testament to how good it is. We've been here a bunch of times before so we knew it would be a good choice. A word of warning- the place is a little cramped and always very loud because of it. However, the food and service make up for it. This is not Americanized Mexican, Tex-Mex or anything close. This is high-quality authenticity rooted in tradition with some modern touches. Everything is prepared with care. There is spice but it is definitely there to enhance the flavors- it not there for the sake of having heat.
Our waiter was great and manager Mario made sure everything was perfect.

Pretty spicy food
Well, Fonda serves beautifully-plated food, and they have lovely and creative brunch cocktails. Everyone at our table found their food to be quite spicy. Whether this is a pro or a con depends on how you like your food - for us, it was a bit much. However, that would not prevent me from returning. Fonda is a great spot in south slope.
