Best sushi on UWS
Hands down the best sushi on the UWS. Order the omakase! The sushi is always fresh and it is very affordable compared to other NYC sushi restaurants. Yasaka is the best!!

Very good, basic Japanese
No exotic special rolls, not very fancy presentation. Basic, very tasty, fresh sushi. Exceeded our expectations. When you want some good sushi on the UWS, this is the place to go.

Definitely our favorite stop for sushi in our neighborhood!

Wow! Amazing! Amazing!
The best, and I mean the best sushi place I ate in. CHEAP and AMAZING. You can't go wrong. The Toro Tartar for $14 is to die for.
6/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Fantastic Lunch, great restaurant
I highly recommend this sushi place. All the dishes are outstanding and the prices extremely reasonable. Friendly service, etc.. You can't go wrong.

Better than Gari
This is the new "Best Japanese Restaurant on the UWS".
6/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
worth every penny and more
The omakase selection for $45 was AMAZING! Incredibly fresh with a wide variety of selections and preparations. Started with delicate gyoza and a creamy monkfish appetizer. The green tea crepe cake with red bean for dessert was light and flavorful. Service was attentive without being overbearing. The only thing I would change would be the dining room set up. Our five entrees could barely fit on the small table and my chair rested against the guy behind me even with me pulled in alI the way. I will definitely be back!

Excellent Japanese Food
Very fresh fish for the sushi and sashimi, very nicely made with skills. The portion justifies the price as well. Definitely not just an average sushi restaurant, truly a place to revisit for future special occasions.
6/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Solid neighborhood sushi joint
This is my go to neighborhood sushi spot whenever I have a craving for sushi. You're not going to find anything over the top. But the food is fresh and the staff are friendly. The food is also reasonably priced. I would recommend it to my friends.
6/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
I like this sushi place
First time here and I enjoyed the great food, nice atmosphere and excellent service. It's kinda tucked away and I almost walked past it so its a "hidden gem" in my opinion. Will return to dine again.
6/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
We've been going to Yasaka since the day it opened and honestly think there's no better sushi in NYC. Hiro and his staff buy the freshest fish each morning. The menu is huge, and you can't go wrong with anything. The rice is perfect, the tempura awesome, and the sushi will melt in your mouth.

The Best Sushi Uptown
Sushi Yasaka is simply the best sushi uptown, and the prices are very fair. I love this place, and judging from the crowds so does everyone.
7/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent food & very reasonable
Great restaurant on the UWS :) our favorite stop for sushi in our neighborhood!

Sushi Yasaka: great food...
Excellent food, attractively served, with abundant choices. Service friendly and efficient, slower when it gets crowded. Somewhat pricey. Noise is also a problem when it's crowded.
7/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
Been going here for a couple of years now. This is definitely my sushi place in NYC. Always great food and service!
7/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
I really like dining at Sushi Yasaka. My friend also loved this place.
7/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
we went to japan earlier this year and this place reminds us of the high quality food we got there. YUM!
7/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good value for the money sushi
Sushi restaurants come at various price ranges, from quite inexpensive to Masa, where a meal can cost $1000 (for one) (I've not been). Sushi Yasaka offers sushi in the middle price range: The 12 piece omakase (by far the most expensive) is $45, and it is very good sushi.

Excellent food, okay service
This place serves excellent authentic Japanese food--which, unfortunately, has become rarity in NYC,. Their sushi is probably comparable to what one would get at such places as Kurumazushi--but you pay a quarter of the price!
Their small dishes are very good, as well, but their tempura is only adequate, which is perhaps expected... Excellent sushi places usually do not serve great tempura.
Unfortunately, though, unlike other authentic Japanese restaurants in NYC, the servers aren't Japanese and you don't get the same level of service you'd expect at a fine Japanese restaurant. Our server was slow, inattentive and abrupt. I wish they'd train their servers better. In that sense, I supposed you get what you pay for...
7/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Everything but the chicken is great. Must make dinner reservations even on Monday or wait forever for a table.
7/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Wonderful fresh food. Gentle
Wonderful fresh food. Gentle atmosphere. Bonus of constantly refilled, no charge, tea.

Highest Quality and a Bit Addictive
The sushi is outstanding: fresh, rich, delicious and authentic. The omakase is an amazing value, especially considering neighborhood competition. The ambience is a bit noisy, but it's the buzz of people enjoying their food and company. Highly recommend.
7/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
beautifully prepared sushi
beautifully prepared sushi and inventive, extensive menu. Unfortunately, there is nothing to absorb sound so if you get a loudmouth or two it impacts on the pleasure of the meal but we will return as we already have because the food is so good.

A great experience again.
A great experience again. We love the freshness of the sushi, the creativity of the menu and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant. It is always a vibrant place to spend an evening.

Best sushi in our neighborhood!
Best sushi in our neighborhood! Staff is friendly and the service is generally quick.
8/21/2013 5:00:00 PM
Great authentic sushi!
The omakase was exceptional! The price is decent for the amount of high quality sushi you get. This place gets crowded after 7PM so reservation is highly recommended.
8/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great, affordable sushi!
Always packed, this trendy Japanese restaurant offers high quality fish at a decent price. The food was delicious and the service was friendly. Came here on a date and absolutely loved the experience!
8/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Who knew that this little nondescript restaurant front was the entry to such a delicious sushi restaurant! The omasake was excellent and the overall menu choices were varied and there was something for everyone. Can't wait to go back again.
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
This place had a very nice, reasonably-priced mini-makase course. The nigiri was fresh, nicely prepared, and tread that fine line between traditional and inventive without swerving too far in either direction. We also enjoyed the Japanese cold appetizers (hijiki, o-hitashi, goma-ae, and kinpira made from lotus root). The restaurant offers a nice selection of sake and shochu, also at reasonable prices.

Fabulous For Vegans
A great neighborhood choice for vegans looking for many wholesome and even organic options. Food is delicious, beautiful and varied.

Was a Friday night and place
Was a Friday night and place was packed but thanks to my reservations, we were immediately seated. Food was delicious and fish was fresh. Service was surprisingly good even though it was very busy. I would recommend this place to anyone. Had a great time.

If you want to have one of
If you want to have one of the best plates of sushi available on the upper west side, look no further than here. Sushi is fresh, appetizers and sake selection is fantastic. If you want to have a even better experience, get the chefs choice sushi plate, you won't regret it.
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Unassuming sushi gem
This place looks like an ordinary sushi restaurant-- but what you get is amazing fresh sushi and rockbottom prices. So glad this place is in my neighborhood.

Sushi in the Hood
We have eaten here several times. Food is always fresh and beautifully presented. Almost always full. Reservations advised. Love the oyster sushi
9/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Terrific Little Place
We have eaten at Sushi Yasaka 3 times. Each time was delicious. The food is fresh, well prepared and fairly priced. The sweet potato tempura roll is not to be missed. Sushi Yasaka is definitely on par with Gari without the pretense.
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
had a bday celebration for friend
Got the candles on the dessert. And the dinner was awesome!
9/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Amazing food, no one weak item on the menu, and reasonably priced. Highly recommended

Best in New York
I have been having dinner at Yasaka since they opened.
Recently Yasaka is more popular, but still same high quality high service.
I am a Japanese and I confidentially bring my friends and guests who know Japanese cuisine .
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
While nothing else about the lunch particularly stood out, the sushi was both exceptional and reasonably priced. It's the best 'everyday' sushi I've found in Manhattan yet (having only been to a handful of places).
10/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Nice Neighborhood Sushi
My daughter and I were feeling like sushi after a long day of shopping and were very happy with the quality of the food and the service. Note that this is not the hot trendy type of sushi place, it's a relaxed environment with an excellent offering of sushi from a no-nonsense waitstaff.
10/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Top Quality Sushi- Reasonable Price
Four of us shared appetixers of Fried Oysters, Shrimp Tempura, Seaweed Salad & Agedashi Tofu, all very good. Two of us shared the Chef's Omakase Sushi, one had Deluxe Sushi and one, Deluxe Sashimi. All the fish was high quality; buttery and very fresh and they have Sapporo on draft. We finished by sharing a Green Tea Mille Crepe, it was delicious! A great value for Sushi lovers.
10/25/2013 5:00:00 PM
Great sushi, dull service
I really enjoyed my meal (spicy tuna roll, yellowtail roll, yellowtail nigiri), which came with a salad and miso soup. It was affordable and fresh and nicely presented. The service was fine, but boring. They didn't smile much, didn't wish me well when I left, etc. It was a get in, get out type situation.
11/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
Outstanding sushi and soba
Best broth for noodle soups I've ever had. Very subtle but filled with surprises. Sushi/sashimi is excellent. The restaurant's interior has been updated (inexpensively) by new management, so it's not the Taj Mahal. But you go for the food. Make reservations. It's busy.
11/11/2013 4:00:00 PM
WOW! Exceeded expectations...
We have been looking for a very good Sushi restaurant, with moderate prices since our favorite spot changed hands and went downhill. Happiness was the result of our visit to Sushi Yasaka, the sushi quality was very good and the dining experience exceeded our expectations. When on the West Side this is the place to satisfy your sushi cravings ata very reasonable price. Will be back...

First time going out for sushi
First time going out for sushi in NYC, the food was outstanding for a great price. Great date night location. Saki was excellent

A Rare Find
Yasaka is truly a rarity in NYC and on the UWS. I love a Friday or Saturday night out sushi dinner where I can enjoy fresh sushi, good ambiance and reasonable prices (not cheap, but not over the top). Most of the time, I don't need a sushi tasting menu from Sushi Yasuda or Abburiya Kinnosuke or Gari to get my fix. Yasaka fits the bill. You'll enjoy the sushi - definitely not low grade stuff, you'll enjoy the energetic/busy vibe (although some may find it too loud if they were intending on having a quiet dinner), you'll enjoy the quick no frills service, you'll be out of there in a hour or hour and 1/2 and have a great meal without feeling light in the wallet at all. If anything at all, it's definitely a place worth trying once.
11/18/2013 4:00:00 PM
Dined here several weeks ago and could not wait to get back. Great sushi and appetizers, service and reasonable prices and now one of my favorite favorites...This restaurant is special if you love Japanese food...

This place is just perfect when the Sushi craving hits. We love it!
