Great little place on Fairmount
Great little place on Fairmount Ave. The menu changes a lot, which means they're always serving fresh food. The food is absolutely delicious. They also give military discounts if you ask. Highly recommended to all, especially if going with a loved one.

We had native Manhattan people
We had native Manhattan people with us for brunch, and they were duly impressed with brunch. We did think that the chocolate chip cookie was not rich enough, but we did have a delicious brunch and enjoyed the friendly wait staff.

Burger was delicious, as was Mac and cheese. Sunlight coming in through windows at sundown can be a little much, and drawing curtains can obstruct view for other patrons. Rum iced tea a little too sweet for my wife, but Solitary Refinement a nice take on an Old Fashioned.

Fairmount Ave. Gem
Whenever we have guests from out of town our first consideration is Hickory Lane. We live in the Fairmount Section and we feel this restaurant is a perfect example of the vibe of this up and coming neighborhood!

Great neighborhood gem. The
Great neighborhood gem. The meal was very enjoyable, although the tables are way too close to each other. I know they put in the new bar and had to make adjustments, but we felt cramped.

Everything with the meal was
Everything with the meal was great; the food, the service, etc. All was well until about 5 minutes after paying the waitress came over and kicked us out so someone else could take the table. I understand its their business to make money, it just was a bit rude, especially since the restaurant didn't seem that crowded and there was no line. It just put a bitter end to a very sweet meal.
If going for brunch, get the stuffed French toast if thy have it. You're welcome :)

A great neighborhood place,
A great neighborhood place, filled with families on a Sunday. The noise level is still a problem. The food was great; the server very friendly. I did make a note in my reservation on line that we had a birthday in the group, but nothing was done to acknowledge that. At the next table, a cupcake with a candle was brought to the person who was celebrating a birthday. At that point, I felt a bit neglected, but did not want to say anything. It was my husband's birthday.I did not want to upset him by having to say something either to the waiter or manager. I thought that putting it in the notes on the reservation was enough.

Great seasonal menu
Had only been once before and had the burger, which was amazing. This time went with friends. We were all impressed with the seasonal menu. Both soups - gazpacho and white asparagus, were delicious and well seasoned. The bouillabaisse was perfectly prepared, especially the sea bass (order it medium). Salmon was cooked to perfection. Filet was okay, ordered it medium based on medium rare description having a cold center and it arrived medium well. Wine list was limited but good selection. Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. We will return.

The food was amazing.
Went for a Mother's Day brunch and brought along a 16 month old. The hostess was super friendly and accomodating. The highlight was definitely the food though. I had the Fairmont breakfast and my wife got the burger. One of the best burgers i have ever tasted. The Fairmont breakfast was also delicious and filling. While it would be nice if it were a BYOB, the cocktail list is one of the best i have ever seen. I had the vanilla mint rum tea.

Lovely dinner, great service
Had a birthday. Dinner the recently. Harrison, our server was cheerful, professional and enthusiastic. The food was well prepared and well presented. We had an early dinner on a very rainy night so the noise level was low. Our server told us it gets noisy. Kudos to the staff for hailing us a taxi in miserable weather.

We had a wonderful dinner at Hickory Lane. People in our group had salmon, steak and scallops- and everyone enjoyed.

fantastic food and drinks (amazing cocktails), great service, and fantastic ambiance/decor. chic, cozy, and trendy, and yet so comfortable and affordable. definitely go here.

hickory lane is one of the few restaurants that isn't trying to hard. They have a menu that anyone can find something on. I, myself love a very dynamic menu, but my Fiance is very picky so we find it difficult to find restaurants in a city whose culinary identity is still lost. Hickory Lane is one of the few places that has a menu that is actually basic. It has the staples and they aren't over flavored with odd creations. They just make good food, and they make it right.
I've had dinner and brunch here and its one of the few restaurants in the city that I always keep on my list of possibilities. Plus the bartenders here are great!

A new favorite
We went here for my fiance's birthday because it is one of his favorites in the neighborhood, and it did not disappoint. I had the burger, because they are so good here. It actually wasn't quite as flavorful as usual, but it was still yummy, and the fries with the aioli sauce were phenomenol. We shared a beet and Gorgonzola salad before dinner that was delicious as well. My fiancé loved his Asian BBQ, and raved about it the next day. He actually found the sausage part too tough, but was so full by then that he didn't care (and he loves to eat!) Both our cocktails were good and reasonably priced. Overall, despite two slight missteps, it was a lovely dinner at an affordable price and I would highly recommend it. We'll definitely be back!

Excellent food, but a bit stuffy
I will say that the food here was REALLY good. The service was great and I was greeted at the door by several people. But the portions are fairly small depending on what you get. I got the scallops and I barely had any food on my plate. Although I will say I'm the type that expects to go home with leftovers after an expensive meal. The "bread" they give to you before dinner is about 1/4 the size of a normal wedge of bread...one bite barely per person. The inside of the restaurant itself is very chic and had a great vibe. Overall I would say go here for a special occasion and make sure you order something that has a bigger portion. There are plenty of other restaurants in Fairmount with great food and more of it.

Great neighborhood gem
The staff is very friendly and amenable. The food is great (with appropriate portions). The drink menu is fantastic! Definitely worth a trip!

Great addition to the museum area.
Hickory Lane has an interesting menu which changes daily. My melon soup and bouillabaisse were delicious - and I sampled my companion's lavendar soup which was delectable.

Second Great Meal
We first visited Hickory Lane after their hamburgers were listed amongst the top in the city. That was a very pleasant meal in winter time. This was in July. There was outdoor seating but we opted for the air conditioned interior. My wife had a beet salad and a pasta dish for dinner, and I had the mushroom/bruschetta and hanger steak. Everything was well prepared and the seasoning and spices were light and distinctive in all foods. The martinis (Ketel One) were also well prepared and the staff were very attentive
Not a lot of seating indoors but we have not had trouble making reservations. We have dined at most of the local restaurants within the 3-4 block radius of Eastern State Penitentiary Historical site. This is a standout

Great local find
A friend and I dined at Hickory Lane recently and were thrilled with the food, happy hour bar selections, and especially our server Harrison. Will definately return.

An additive brunch. A party of 5 was very happy. Burger, as advertised, was very good, not surprising for a Rouge alum. Benedicts especially the pork belly variety were hits. The Tiramisu French Toast could be a weekly thing, it is very additive. On party member said it is the "perfect sharing brunch dessert". Plus, the largest and cheesiest kid's grilled cheese ever. Space is nice and airy, and even though we were inside with all the windows open it felt like we were in a shaded outside table. For those who like outside there were enough outside seating for those who really desire it.
8/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
Find more than just Philly's best burger here. Salads are inventive and the other entree's are good as well - salmon, steak frites, etc.

Comfortable Neighborhood Gem
A business associate and I were meeting before she left for vacation. We needed to transact some business after a rather hectic day at the office. I wanted an easy commute, no parking hassles and comfortable meal. Hickory Lane fit the bill totally. It has a short but quality menu with choices to satisfy everyone. My friend has the steak frite and I had the salmon over black rice. Both done to perfection. I normally order wine, which I did, but immediately switched to one of their great cocktails. It was a cranberry vodka concoction. Very delicious. A lovely evening. We were able to get our business completed in a nice atmosphere with good food and drink and enjoy the evening with no parking hassles! Can't beat that!

It was a very nice place to have brunch, Food was pretty good, they have a red velvet crepe pancake, their burgers are adequate in size and they had good customer service.

Great Food and Great Service
When we first arrived, we were sat at an inside table. I asked the hostess to sit next to an open window and they more than obliged. We came to learn that the restaurant has a new manager and she was outstanding. The Pre fixe menu is not served but Mon-Thurs. This is not up to date on their website menu or the open table menu. The manager came over and bought us a drink and dessert to compensate for the inconvenience. This was a great gesture by her. The food was excellent and the drinks were great. This restaurant is right next door to the Eastern State Penitentiary. They also offer valet parking service for a small fee, so having to find a spot to park is not necessary. I recommend this small and friendly place for anybody.

Best brunch in town
The pork belly eggs benedict was the best breakfast we've had in years. Also, the tex-mex plato was the perfect blend of spicy sausage and eggs benny. We highly recommend Hickory Lane!

Food was fabulous!
We ate at Hickory Lane on Saturday night, and the place was jumping. It was a little bit on the loud side, but then a larger group left and took the decibel level with them. We both had a salad and the steak frites. The salads are substantial and had a great variety of greens and vegetables. Mine had beets and bleu cheese - Awesome. The steak was unbelievably tender and had a hearty sauce. Very good. This was a great experience.

Hickory Lane in Fairmount
Very good food. The BYOB option should clearly state a $15/bottle corking fee....this was a bit of an expensive surprise.

Great place to start your night
My wife and I went her for her bday before going to Terror Behind the Walls. Great location being across the street. Loved the inside of the restaurant. Service was super attentive. Food was amazing, Couldnt asked for a better night. Can't wait to come back again.

If I lived in Philadelphia...
...I would come here all the time! We picked Hickory Lane because it was near other things we had planned, and were rewarded with an unexpectedly memorable experience. If braised oxtail with salsify ever appears on the specials menu again, I recommend it highly! My friends ordered the steak frites and salmon BLT--both were delicious, generously portioned, and accompanied by perfectly crisp hand-cut fries. All this in a diminutive but inviting dining room with views of the passersby outside. We really couldn't have asked for more!

Went there to meet someone for the first time. Was perfect (well, not the date who was perfectly imperfect!) but the food and the service was fantasticingly perfect!!! So comfortable, easy, not packed in like sardines. Highly recommend.

Always worth it.
This place keeps getting better. The beer list, the wine list, and the food never stop making us happy. Took my wife her on her birthday - she requested it - and i loved it too.

A Real Winner--5 STARS
This was my second time eating here in a month--it is moving to the top of my list of places to eat with friends local and from out of town. It is in the space formerly home to the BYO L'occa. It is a very different place though. There is a full bar--and the signature drinks (especially the Manhattans are over the top). For my second visit, we arrived before 6:30 in time for the fixed price $25 three-course menu--it is a steal--more than ample portions with multiple selections. I cannot ay enough good about this place. GO! GO! GO!

Excellent Veg & Vegan Dishes
We ate brunch here after the Thanksgiving Day parade. Was a short walk to the parade route and found parking on Fairmount with no problem. We were looking for a place that offered a variety of veg and vegan dishes and we found it. The quinoa oatmeal with excellent and perfect for a cold winter's day. The tofu scramble came with soy "bacon" and home fries - all were delicious. Will definitely go back for dinner !!

All 6 of us enjoyed our meals.
All 6 of us enjoyed our meals. The hanger steaks were full of flavor. Although a fair number of the mussels were served on the plate but not opened, the waitress did deduct same from the bill. Soups were tasty. A nice neighborhood restaurant with reasonable prices.

Great Little Neighborhood Gem
I was going to the Fairmount section of Philly for a concert, so I looked up restaurants that served brunch. Hickory Lane received all positive reviews, so I booked it. And I was glad I did.
The atmosphere just felt right---you know? When something feels comfortable, good, pleasing. Fabric wallcovering and a window of walls that most likely open out in the summer provide the backdrop to an intimate dining room. The tables are close together, but I forgot all about that when the food arrived. Some of the most photographable food I can remember seeing coming out of any kitchen. I had the special French toast, with strawberries, blueberries, fresh cream and custard. I will return for the burgers: ranked in the top 25 in the US.

Enjoyed a Saturday brunch after a visit to Art Museum. Menu had lots of good choices and I thoroughly enjoyed the burger I chose. Add a delicious glass of wine and overall was happy to have tried this restaurant and will definitely go again.

The best $15 burger in the
The best $15 burger in the country!! Seriously, I know that is quite a tab for a burger and fries but it is worth it. Used to be a byob but now has a $15 corkage fee. That is fair. I just wish they had more wines on the wine list. You really HAVE to bring your own.I will return.

My husband and I had a relaxing
My husband and I had a relaxing dinner at this comfortable Fairmount restaurant. It is great for dining alfresco; even if you are indoors, the large windows that open out give the impression that you are outdoors. The fried calamari appetizer was tender and light. The beet salad with blue cheese was good; would have preferred the beets sliced into somewhat larger pieces. The gnocchi was delicate and light with a flavorful sauce. For dessert we opted for the very tasty vanilla Tahitian gelato. We enjoyed the inventive cocktails, along with some very good wines. Espresso and Cuban coffee topped off our meal. The staff were attentive and professional. Overall, a delightful way to spend Friday evening at one of our favorite neighborhood places.

Such a sweet addition to the neighborhood--Love having this place and the laid back vibe with some serious chops in the kitchen! The apricot+rosemary gelato and white asparagus soup are just sick. A must order.
