Great spot for a late lunch!
We enjoyed our late lunch. The sushi was fresh and proportioned nicely (rather than American style slabs of cold fish on too much rice), but the rolls could have been a bit tighter. We had our 11-month old with us and they were very nice to him. We will come again.

We always love the food and
We always love the food and quality of food whenever we eat here. The chef has a unique spin on traditional Japanese dishes and everything is always of the highest quality of anywhere in the bay area.

Food was very good clean food.
Food was very good clean food. I found nothing spectacular but everything we had was high quality and yummy. The menu lacks true specials and some of the signature dishes that Kaygetsu used to have.

Food was done to perfection.
Food was done to perfection. Flavors were balanced and light. Fish was done to the right degree, not raw nor overcooked. Because I have numerous food allergies (including shellfish), they were very careful about the ingredients used in each dish, checked with me before ordering and serving, and made sure I had a wonderful dining experience. A definite do-again place!

Delicious! Sashimi was outstanding
Delicious! Sashimi was outstanding. Uni was yummy. Everything was artfully presented. Service was polite and unobtrusive, yet available and attentive. Every dish was delicious. Dessert box commemorated the occasion.

We went for an anniversary
We went for an anniversary dinner. As always, the food was wonderful and the staff very attentive. One of us ordered the multicourse kaisekei menu and the other ala cart. They were very successful in timing the courses to dovetail. The last (dessert) course was served in a box, with a custom message in the lid, written in Japanese with green tea powder. The food and the experience are well-worth the money.

The 8 course kaiseki menu
The 8 course kaiseki menu is very good if somewhat pricey. You might want to save that for a special occasion. Waiter was good, but it was a bit difficult to understand his English. Fish was super fresh and each course was a work of art.

We enjoyed a wonderful Kaiseki dinner, superb tasting and artfully presented. The service was excellent, and the sake pairing was very enjoyable.

Outstanding experience, again
We've come a few times for lunch and dinner since it changed names from Kaygetsu, and we're still fans. Indeed, the food and service are exemplary. The sashimi moriawase was so good that it brought tears to my eyes. Incredibly fresh. The restaurant doesn't have quite the high polish in either overall food or service that Kaygetsu consistently offered, which used to easily rival our favorite top restaurants in Japan, but this is still a truly outstanding and totally satisfying experience. Highly recommended.

Excellent goes above and beyond
The hostess called me in advance to talk about my vegetarian options and they created a separate menu for us. The waitress was SO friendly too. Service doesn't get better than this!

Quiet Focused Elegance
This was our first time to dine at this restaurant under new management. The Kaiseki was spectacular. Each dish in this 8+ course series of small dishes was a highly focused experience. Each course was clearly introduced and explained by our waitress, whose relaxed enthusiasm added to the evening. We first experienced Kaiseki in its birthplace of Kyoto years ago. Mitsunobu's interpretation was every bit as impressive. But don't let our enthusiasm mislead you — this all takes place in a subdued atmosphere of quiet, simple elegance. This was a special celebration for us, and Mitsunobu ensured that our evening was everything we hoped for. We look forward to our next visit.

Best Japanese south of San Francisc
You can select a la carte or the chef's 8 course special. The eight course special is delicious, but each item is cooked after the previous is consumed so the entire meal takes 2+ hours. Great for a special romantic evening. A la carte will allow you chef choices as well as sashimi and sushi that is excellent. They close for dinner early, 8:30. Lunch is only a la carte. Will definitely be going back!

By far the best sushi! It is not cheap, but the quality is second to none. Sesame ice cream was very enjoyable. Thank you.

This is a rare gem--exquisite
This is a rare gem--exquisite food, knowledgable and friendly service, elegant interior. Try the Kaiseki dinner, many small courses with a fabulous array of saki.

Tried tasting menu, chef was excellent, server was kind and knowledgable. Exquisite presentation, amazing subtle Japanese fusion flavors. What is in-stock can vary from day to day, so for premium fish, simply ask what they have.

One of the best meals we have had!
Mitsunobu was a terrific dining experience. We had the traditional Japanese Kaiseki dinner. The arrangements were most artful and the tastes were superb. This is a very quiet and elegant restaurant that is carrying on the traditions of fine Japanese dining.
One of the best meals we have had in years!

Japanese business man
This restaurant serves real Japanese cuisine. Price is also reasonable as real Japanese. If you would like to take and know perfect Japanese cuisine in this Silicon Valley、 I strongly recommend this Mitsunobu without a moment’s hesitation. There are many Japanese like restaurants in this area. But it makes misunderstanding on Japanese cuisine. Be careful !

Dine for occasion
This place was somewhere I wanted to go long time and I finally did and was very happy that I went there.
The front lady was very polite and everyone in the restaurant kept watching us for anything that we needed.
It is a Japanese way that even there is a waiter assigned to the table, anyone who notices that we are raising the hand
or trying to locate someone, they notices right away before I actually raise (they notice I am looking for someone before raising the hand). That is how I really felt comfortable and treated well. The way it was served was also great with detail Kaiseki style to enjoy with eye. Probably not enough portion. I recommend this place for special occasion.

Outstanding Quality & Presentation
We've been here a number of times for lunch and dinner, each time very impressed by the quality of the food, freshness of the fish, and pleasant ambience (particularly given its unlikely location in a shopping center).
This time my wife and I had the chirashi zushi for lunch and, once again, the fish was superb.
Mitsunobu is a gem to have nearby.

Very high quality fish, fresher than fresh vegetables, an all-around superb Japanese chef. Outstanding tempura. The locale is a little surprising-- off to the side of a shopping mall up Sand Hill Rd-- but very easy to find and with ample parking near the entrance. My favorite Japanese restaurant on the peninsula.

Still excellent after owner change
My husband and I hadn't been here since the ownership change from Kaygetsu to Mitsunobu. We had the kaiseki menu with sake pairing and loved it all. We especially loved the cauliflower mousse starter and the jewelry box, but it was all excellent. It seemed as good as Kaygetsu (same chef). We'll be back to try the a la carte menu.
