No problems parking at this
No problems parking at this cozy little restaurant. Dinner for three with $15 corkage fee for our own bottle of wine was $135, maybe just a bit pricey. But, the restaurant is very unique and comfortable. We liked our servers, and tip them we did. We will be back soon.

Mt. Baker gem
Had a wonderful meal here with a group of friends. Enjoyed the vegetarian plate. A friend really enjoyed the clams. Had a very nice mango sorbet for dessert.

Worth the Drive
We were pleasantly surprised with this gem. We drove 45 minutes (Friday eve. traffic) based on the reviews and it was worth it. The chicken liver pate starter with mango chutney and cornichons was smooth and flavorful served with delicious baguette slices. The Green Verte salad we shared was simple: lovely fresh greens, cherry tomato halves and a tangy vinagrette. We both had the rib eye steak, perfectly cooked and served with a custard like potato gratin and baby green beans with shallots which I could have had for my entire meal they were so perfect. The chocolate pots d' creme is delicious, super creamy and chocolatey. Service: friendly and professional. Pacing: spot on. We were there at 6:15 so ahead of the crowd. View: worth the drive

Best In a While!
I use open table to frequent many of Seattle's great restaurants, but this one was a real find! They were able to give us a stellar view, and pair it with stellar service and unmatched food. Would definitely go back and we definitely say take your date here!

A Neighborhood GEM!
Ala Bonne Franquette is a terrific and genuine French restaurant -- the food is wonderful; the variety is perfect - really good regular menu and always one or two terrific specials; all of the staff are uniformly terrific -- bartender, wait staff, owner, chef, sou chef -- friendly, knowledgeable, happy to share cooking secrets. Make this a regular spot for just yourself or friends and family.

Romance at sunset
Our first time at this restaurant coincided with a rare 80 degree day and a glorious sunset. The view here is unexpected (city with Sound and Mts. behind) and turns blue then pink in the sunset. Small, busy, good food, excellent service,
average prices - a winner!

This is a very pretty room on the Leschi Ridge, with a view out towards Elliott Bay; the decor is modest, romantic and thoughtful. If you can appreciate a well-curated menu of simple French dishes, executed perfectly, delivered with discreet efficiency (and a bit of sass), this is heaven. I had black cod that could not have been better -- it came sizzling and very slightly undercooked. As I savored each silky bite, it cooled to exactly the correct degree of doneness, a neat trick. My husband, torn between a chicken leg with couscous (he loves dark meat!) and a chicken breast with mushrooms (he loves mushrooms!), chose the breast. The bone-in breast was moist, tender and flavorful, the sauce somehow both earthy and delicate. Classic.

What a Find!
We live in the Mt. Baker neighborhood and finally tried a la bonne franquette. We're so sorry we didn't come sooner! This is a marvelous little bistro (great ambiance) with simple ingredients prepared lovingly with amazing flavors. Everything we had was delicious. A very reasonable and interesting cocktail and wine list. Perfect service. And of course, a great view of downtown. It gets a little loud when it fills up. This is a great neighborhood gem and a gem for the whole city!

Always a wonderful experience.
Everything I have ever had at A La Bonne Franquette has been fantastic! Likewise, the service is impeccable.

Lovely Dinung Spot, Wonderful Fppd
From the time we arrived till our departure, we felt welcomed. Our servers were attentive without hovering, the meal was timed perfectly. The wine list is simple, but well chosen and well-priced. Our meals were delicious, beginning with the chicken liver pate which is smooth and delicate. The rib-eye, grilled medium rare was almost fork tender and the lamb shank succulent, perfectly seasoned, moist and tender. Desserts (pain perdu and chocolate mousse) and French press Fair Trade coffees were the perfect endings to a wonderful meal. The noise level in the small restaurant made conversations a little difficult and less intimate than we might have liked, but the view and the warmth of the staff more than compensated.

We've been there about 5 times now and the food seems to get better each time. Also, when we complimented the chef on the desserts, he gave us the recipes. Amazing.

Gem with a view.
We've enjoyed visiting this hidden gem three times. Excellent overall service and foods. Bring back the French onion soup. Can become little loud. Book reservations for larger groups. Enjoy the view.

How do you destroy a secret!?!
This may be THE secret of Mt Baker Ridge but it won't be long before the word gets out that A la bonne franquette becomes a beloved destination restaurant for those willing to venture to that corner of the city. For one of the more secluded, scenic view meals of high quality, it's hard to beat. The menu might be considered a bit constrained (e.g., only one seafood entre) but everything we tasted and saw on the table next to us was sublime. The wine list on the other hand is something a LOT of restaurants should pay attention to....a broad spectrum of very reasonably priced Old and New World, plus some, wines and ample by-the-glass offerings. Absolutely worth the visit, and repeated visits!

Wonderful anniversary dinner!
I booked on Open Table and let them know it was our anniversary and we were given the best table next to the window for a wonderful view of downtown Seattle. There was a hand-lettered sign on the table with best wishes for us. The food was wonderful and the service friendly and easy-going. The green salad was generous for two and fresh and light. The ribeye was perfect, the potatoes are decadent and delicious. My spouse had the salmon special and it was very good. The creme brulee and bread pudding desserts were fabulous. We look forward to returning and making this our neighborhood favorite!

beautiful french style bistro cuisine. we loved it. I had the best trout ever..haven't ordered it for 20 years but was pleasantly surprised how wonderful, flavorful! Reminded me of dining at a bistro in Paris. Thanks, we'll be back next trip to Seattle!

A wonderful spot.
What a wonderful dining experience. We came for the first time for our anniversary based on the positive reviews on Open Table. The staff took the extra time to set aside a table with a great view and to welcome us with a note of congratulations upon arrival. The food was wonderful and the wine menu offered a great selection and value. Overall would highly recommend

Divine food with a twist
A friend and I tried this place on a whim: we originally had reservations at a place on Capitol Hill but then remembered the Capitol Hill Block Party and wanted to avoid that at all costs. We sat in the tiny bar area, which is attached to the main eating area and had a lovely dinner with very attentive and entertaining service by Justin, the bartender. He recommended some fabulous drinks to us and I had the chicken tagine, which was scrumptious and the beet salad which was excellent. Unfortunately, I was so full by the end of dinner that I couldn't try dessert. The restaurant is lovely, and a true neighborhood gem. I will definitely be back many times. Thanks to the chef for an amazing dinner and to Justin for outstanding service!

Move over Luc and Le Pichet
Wonderful good, service, view, everything! We have been here twice now and have enjoyed every bite, and sip in this neighborhood gem. The view is wonderful, the room is small, so deserve a table. Favorite dishes include the pate and rillette appetizers, perfectly dressed green salad, trout, sausage and the pot au chocolate. Beet lovers will enjoy the tower that is called a salad. We will be back!

A la bonne franquette is a cozy bistro with a great view of downtown Seattle. The food is simple, yet fantastic - the potatoes au gratin are a must. The service is very good, and if you're so inclined, you can thank the chef personally for a wonderful meal on your way out as you walk by the open kitchen. We will be back!

A bit of Paris on Mt. Baker Ridge
Can't get to Paris? Go to A La Bonne Franquette for the intimate atmosphere of a bistro in the City of Light. Great food, reasonable prices, lovely wine list, friendly service--and an unparalleled view of Seattle (whcih you can't get in Paris anyway!) Not pretentious like some of the big name downtown restaurants, and street parking is free. We'll be back again and again.

New Fave Neighborhood Joint
We live in Columbia City and have been looking for a moderately priced gem that we could pop into after work. We've been in mourning since we lost Verve and on the hunt for a foodie friendly wine bar. Well we've found our new spot - La Bonne Franquette! Amazing service, bartender that knows her way around a shaker and specialty liquors, an impressive compact menu (my pref). We enjoyed their rillette immensely and my husband could stop gushing about their grilled peach and duck confit special. I loved the roast chicken - perfectly crispy skin, an amazing jus, and these tasty little chanterelles. In love and can't wait to go back...oh and did I mention that it has an incredible view of the city too?

The food was excellent and unique. I had the Poulet Roti. The flavors were delicious. I was tempted to lick my plate. Our waiter was adept and likeable, but needed to be more familiar with the wine list. The view was terrific. We will definitely go again.

Great Little French Restaurant
We love this place. You almost know it will be good when you walk in the door. It's cute and inviting, and the staff seem truly happy to be there. The menu is a small list of French Bistro standards with the occasional twist. The wine list is a short, smart selection of mostly sleeper French wines. The night we dined our server was efficient and charming, and the food was delicious.

Excellence in Everything
The Idaho Trout was very delicious. It was perfectly cooked as was the string beans served with it. The delicious caper sauce could not have been better. My partner had the Chicken which he said was also excellent. Other dishes ordered that evening were the lamb and charcuterie, both of which were delicious. Desserts were superb as was the service. We had a table by the window with a view of Rainier Valley, downtown Seattle, Puget Sound, and the Olympic Mts. in the distance.

Our service from the moment we were greeted was warm and genuine. Every bite of our meal was perfection. The cocktails were prepared just right and the wine selection was extensive without being pretentious.
I ordered trout and the chef willingly left off the head which is traditionally served with whole trout. Divine! Every morsel My spouse chose the ribeye with au graten potatoes that melted away in your mouth .
We were thrilled that bread pudding showed up on the dessert menu. Our personal favorite- and it did not disappoint. We finished with french press.
A perfect evening at a gem of a restaurant.

Whether your enjoyment of A la bonne franquette's delectable dishes, stunning view and bistro ambiance will depend on your willingness to chance the potential cacophony of a rowdy table next to you. On a sedate night, A la bonne franquette will be an absolute night; on a night of birthday and other celebrations, the small space and hard walls and ceiling will carry the enjoyment beyond the "energetic" state!

Charming neighborhood restaurant
My wife and I visited La Bonne Franquette for the first time this past weekend and truly enjoyed this neighborhood gem. It provided a charming and quaint atmosphere, combined with excellent french bistro food -- the beet and goat cheese appetizer was truly unique, the french onion soup was perfect for a rainy and damp Saturday night, the chicken terrine was one of the better chicken dishes my wife had in quite a while and their ribeye was prepared just to my liking. The service was attentive and professional but not overbearing. I would definitely recommend it to friends and family.

I found this gem on Open Spoon
I found this gem on Open Spoon and went off the recommendations; it is a winner! The view is spectacular, but the food is even better. I had the special of steelhead on kale and squash, delicious. My mom had the whole trout (and yes, it is a whole, head and all trout). She enjoyed ever last bite. Coffee came in a mini French press and was perfectly strong. For dessert I had crème brulee and enjoyed every bit of it. The service just needs to be a bit more on task as I would have added a salad to my order, but we were not checked on in a timely fashion. Definitely will be back! Yum!

Mt. Baker's Secret
I first went to A La Bonne Franquette because the owners live in my neighborhood. I've returned several times with friends (who loved it, too!) because the food is so good and the quiet adult ambiance permits conversation, unlike a lot of other restaurants. I haven't sat at the bar but it looks well-stocked, so it would be a perfect place for a cocktail. And of course the view of Seattle is sublime. Go at sunset. Every table has a view of the sky and skyline.

fun and tasty!
very fun place, like always. definitely a favorite

Lovely, but loud
We decided on the Tasting Menu with wine parings. The portions were perfect and everything was very nicely prepared and delicious. Wines were well-chosen too. However the noise level, even though the restaurant was not full, was rather high. Conversation was difficult, which is not what I'd want while enjoying a delicious, leisurely meal. I will come back, but if it is still that noisy, won't be back again.
10/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food -- quality and quantity!
Typically French restaurants are expensive and serve small portions. A la bonne franquette is the opposite -- yet the food is absolutely delectable.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Absolutely positively perfect.
Booked a table the day before and mentioned that it was our anniversary. Asked for the window table because the sweeping view of the downtown skyline is beautiful. Got to the restaurant 15 minutes before our scheduled reservation to find that not only was our table waiting for us, but also a sweet congratulatory card from the staff. After we sat down, they also brought small complimentary glasses of champagne. Our food was superb (try the lamb, you'll be glad you did), the atmosphere was perfect, and the service was sweet and attentive. The perfect place for a quiet, special evening.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
A La Bonne Franquette is the best. It is offers an intimate venue with the service and food to go along with it. I love that it is a neighborhood restaurant that provides the quality of food that you might only expect in a downtown restaurant. The beet salad is one of our favorites and it continues to not disappoint. The view from the tables by the windows provides a unique perspective on Seattle that only enhances the dining experience.

Loved the menu- simple but interesting fare..reminded me of menus from the French countryside. The braised lamb shanks were so tender and the mixed roasted vegetables were perfectly prepared. The atmosphere is casual but special - with a beautiful view at an unusual angle on Seattle. Service was attentive and helpful.. I am definitely going back!

Delightful little treasure
We thoroughly enjoyed this evening, our first at this French bistro. Although advertised as casual, the service, food, view, and ambience are elegant and special. Every item we tried was delicious and fresh. Definitely worth travelling to find and enjoy, again and again!

Our group of 8 loved it. Service
Our group of 8 loved it. Service and food were both outstanding. The special of the evening, black cod, was perfectly cooked and the Meyer lemon sauce accompanying it made it a very special dish. The pot de creme and creme brûlée we shared were delicious.
Not terribly convenient to our neighborhood but we will return!

A Great New Find
I took my wife to "A la bonne franquette" to celebrate her birthday. This was our first visit and we were very impressed. They had a table prepared with a special birthday card and dessert was presented to my wife with a candle. The food was outstanding and the service was terrific. Shannon, a server who we have enjoyed at another restaurant is now working here and she was great as usual. The bartender came to our table and asked how we liked our very good martinis. While the space is small and tables are close to each other, it still maintains an intimate and romantic vibe with a great view of Downtown Seattle.

Comfort French with a Twist
Small cozy space. The seating is such that your dining experience remains intimate, not cramped.
Lovely Seattle view is appreciated from any table in the restaurant.
Now for the food. How lovely! The chef creates from his vast travels; adding subtle spice
to already beautifully prepared food. The French onion soup with a hint of ginger in the broth
exceeded my expectations. The trout was both buttery and sweet...delicious!
They offer lovely bubbles by the glass along with above average reds and whites
by the glass. Lastly, even though very busy, the staff were incredibly cordial and
accommodating. Am so pleased I found this charming bistro on Open Table.

I had made reservations and upon arrival, the hostess greeted me by name. They honored my request to be seated by a window which was very nice! We loved the 3 cheese plate and while we were working on that, the chef sent over complimentary cauliflower soup in mini shot glasses! We also tried the appetizer special which came with 2 sausages and vegetables in a white cream sauce that I really enjoyed. The lamb shank was flavorful but I noticed the ends were a bit dry. Trout was a very good portion (full piece except for the head & tail). Bar looks like tight and can seat maybe 6 people. View of Beacon Hill and DT Seattle was really enjoyable. Clean with an intimate and romantic ambiance. I would return again to try the other items!

We didn't regret it. We had a great view and an amazing dinner! Especially the crème brûlée is to die for!

Superb food and service
This was my second time at A La Bonne Franquette. I know the owner's niece, so she gave me the tip about going to the restaurant, and I was as impressed this time as I was my first time. It's clear that the chef takes great care in creating his menu, and there are always new things to try. Every single plate is crafted with delicacy and no detail is missed. The service is phenomenal, and the view from the window is great as well. One thing to note is that they only have two tables for two by the window, and I guess they go fast. I came in having a reservation, but one of the two tables was taken, and the other one said "reserved," and when we asked about sitting in it they said that reservation had been made a month in advance. Still great.
