A real find!
I am always on the look-out a restaurant that serves fine food at reasonable prices , pleasent surroundings and allows you to bring your own wines. NB: you must make the reservations through Open Table and note it on your reservation. Kudos to Black Duck for working with Open Table to allow this. The menu is small but well thought out and nicely prepared with quality ingredients. We had the crab cake and elk sausage as a starter, Duck and pork chop for entrees. The desserts Chocolate mousse and pecan tart while good were not the same caliber of the starters and entrees. They will be changing their menu soon, we are looking forward to our next meal there.

Very good place.
Excellent drinks! Highly recommend the cocktails.
Food is good, but portions are sometimes small.
But overall we had an excellent time.
We will return!

My wife and I come into the city every once in a while to see a play or just hang out. We have been here a few times, and it is great. When booking through open table I made a "special request" that we were interested in gluten free options. Upon arriving they confirmed this with us, and the waitstaff was prepared with recommendations. Would highly recommend.

This was a great find; it is a lovely restaurant which has a small jazz group on many evenings. The food is good; service is attentive without being intrusive; prices are moderate and portions are large. I certainly would recommend it for a pleasant evening.

Quite simply this place was excellent. My amazing date and I decided to go on Friday which included a jazz band. The wait staff was pleasant, informative and attentive. The environment seems to be made for a nice date but they had a nice front area They also have a few tables in the front for when the weather improves. The highlight of the experience was the food. We started with the sliders. They were absolutely tasty, though a bit dry. My date had the roast chicken and I the roast duo. It was immaculately prepared. At first it did not seem unusual but each bite was more and more interesting. This is definitely a place that we would frequent

Always A Treat!
My boyfriend lives near Black Duck. We always have a really great time when we go there! The food is consistently excellent and the service is attentive but not annoying at all. Call ahead if you're going for the jazz because the schedule is a little inconsistent.

We have now discovered this place tucked away on a side street and we will be coming back.
The food is excellent and comes from very fine purveyors and the happy hour deal is a good
one if you come on the early side. And they are very obliging when it comes to making any
kind of substitution on your dish. And how welcoming they are. All in all, a very good

Great food, even better service!
This was a great experience mainly due to the service (Michael was great!), but also the food. The truffle fries, crab cakes, and kale salad were just amazing!

Black Duck Rocks!
What a treat to dine at Black Duck! Located within the Park South Hotel, the restaurant is cozy and inviting, with a lively bar. For starters, we ordered the Caesar salad and mixed green salad -- both fresh and crisp. Our main courses -- the roasted duck and pork chop -- were fabulously delicious. The duck was tender and juicy, as was the pork chop. Dessert: the red velvet cake -- yum! Black Duck also has a nice selection of wines. As for the service -- excellent. One nice surprise -- a small jazz band (bass, drum, sax) entertained the dinner/bar crowd. We'll definitely return to dine at Black Duck!

Intimate atmosphere in The
Intimate atmosphere in The Black Duck with low lighting and the band playing (but not so loud you can't hear yourself). Part of a hotel which makes it more of a relaxed restaurant. Our mussels were delicious - although we were advised too late to try them with the truffle fries which are apparently amazing. We both had fish for main course too. Food is fresh and light. if you have room the cookie desert is a must. Great service, attentive but not intrusive. Nice table layout with none, that we could see, to avoid. Reasonably priced for the quality too.

Quality over quantity
What I like about this place is their emphasis on quality over quantity. The portions are good without being overgenerous. That leaves me with higher quality food without feeling stuffed. Black Duck also likes to update it's menu based on seasonal foods available; again lending itself to a higher quality flavour. Staff ate nice without being disruptive and if you go on the right night, they host a lovely jazz trio. Great ambience and you'd never guess it was connected to a hotel. It's a cute find and feels genuine.

the service was lacking--it seemed like the busboy was doing more of the "waiting" then the waiter. He did not speak English (or so it seemed) did not excuse himself while reaching across people and he did not know what to serve to whom.
7/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
I attemded an after work dinner with my co workers at this restaurant and it was one of the best. we all were very pleased with our dinner selection. The appetizers were delicious with a great presentation. No one spoke during dinner, we were too busy eating. I will definately be back. Our server turned us off towards the end when he messed up our 4 way split payment. He some how got confused and pocketed the $142 cash and charged 2 credit cards for the $230 bill. He was supposed to put the cash towards the bill and split the 2 credit cards. anyway we were able to clear it up after a few minutes. That was probablly the downside of our night. Regardless, we will be back.

Just as I remembered it
The Black Duck is not a very visible restaurant, nor does one hear about it much in ads. Maybe that's why even though we loved it in a past visit, we forgot about it until 6 months later (on Restaurant week). But it's just as I remember. A lovely quiet place (even in the bar) with pleasant waiters and surprisingly good food. The fish was excellent and nicely prepared and served. And the petit filet rubbed in espresso was delightful (even if not very coffee-tasting). Overall the Black Duck will stay in my memory as a "sleeper" that remains a nice unusual quiet dinner restaurant that I will make a point to remember much more often in the future - and would suggest it to anyone else looking for a romantic setting with excellent food.

Music-good but poor location
We dined at the Black Duck on a Friday evening when they have their music event. The quartet was excellent but given the physical location of the restaurant , the band's location placed them directly in front of a number of tables. The management was more than accommodating when we asked to be seated toward the rear of the room where the sound level was still clear but not overwhelming. The dinner was excellent as was the service.

good food, not so good service
We had four people group. We ordered salad for each with main meal, but we never got that. When we got main meal, we asked, where our salad is. We got answear, sorry, we forgot it , we can arrange it, if you want. We said , no need to arrange it anymore.
We ordered 4 Irish cofee, but we got 4 cofee with whisky, not Irish cofee. If you don't know, what the order, that you get, really means, ask it from customers. We can help you and tell you. May be, that you don't know in USA, what kind of drink Irish coffee is. In European it is well known drink

Have been here a dozen times or more. Always good music. Sit in rear to have both music & conversation. Duck, mussels and pork chop excellent. Only criticism would be to upgrade wines by glass.Server was efficient and personable
8/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
I dined with two friends and greatly enjoyed the experience. Each of them had the pork chop and I had the duck. Each dish was exactly as ordered and we were extremely pleased with the service. An added benefit was the live music which was very enjoyable. The manager, Richard, was very gracious and made sure we were pleased. I will be back soon.

I went here for the first time and really enjoyed it. The food was very good and the service was great. The restaurant has a nice little separate bar area and a fireplace and it has a warm feel to it. I would go back again.

Black Duck was great for a date night. The food was good but the service was excellent! The staff are attentive but give you your space and don't rush you out the door. FYI, the restaurant has a small Jazz band that performs on Saturdays so take that into account when booking.

A Rare Find!
If you've ever wondered if a restaurant could be an automatic hit from start to finish, go to the Black Duck! It started with Richard, the manager greeting us warmly and genuinely and making us feel instantly at home. His manner made it clear that their goal is an exceptional evening -- and they succeeded. They are a rare breed. The live jazz is enjoyable no matter where you are seated. The wait staff is cordial, responsive but not intrusive. The ambiance was excellent with a nod to a classic era and a real sense of what a slice of Manhattan was in those days. Our appetizers, entrees and desserts were simply perfect and the wines were spot on. The Black Duck became an instant favorite -- we will be back. Thank you Richard and company!

A special 4-course dinner
A special 4-course dinner with 4 Sam Adams beers was quite good. As a hotel restaurant, the bar was quite crowded and noisy the night we were there, not our kind of scene. Yet we enjoy this place, and the people are very friendly.

Great food in a festive atmosphere
We ate on a Friday night when a jazz band was playing. It set the right tone in the dimmed down restaurant. The food was superb and carefully prepared in presentation and taste. We had the Berkshire pork, burger, and the crab cake which were all good.

When booking on opentable I noted that we were celebrating a birthday and they brought us two complimentary glasses of champagne and put a candle in our dessert without me even asking... Great service and the food was excellent! They also have a happy hour that I will definitely be going back for!

Been here before and always look forward to returning.
The food is always delicious and presented well. We shared a half bottle of wine and that was perfect.
Wait staff is friendly and courteous. Kitchen could be a little faster. We did relish having some time between our shared appetizer of ussels (which were amazing and plentiful) but it took so long before our main course and we had to get to the theatre so we couldn't do coffee or dessert and we've been spoiled by their delicious desserts before.
Look forward to returning.

Enjoyable Thanksgiving Dinner
Lovely little restaurant, cosy and friendly. Unfortunately as we ate towards the end of the Thanksgiving afternoon (table booked for 8 o'clock) the service was a little 'jaded' and the food cold. Overall a lovely find, and good value for a nice menu - shame we felt we should have been there earlier.

A Romantic Outing
My fiancé and I have made a tradition of eating at the Black Duck since we first met 5 years ago. We found this restaurant almost by accident. It has become our favorite spot for special romantic dinners. This time we were celebrating my fiancé's birthday. We had the Salmon, and it was fantastic! We also enjoyed the Jazz band's performance that night. They provided great background conversational music for our romantic outing.
11/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
We were there Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend. The restaurant was not crowded and therefore not noisy. Excellent service by a very attentive waiter. Squash soup with marshmallow was delicious; as was the bronzini. After dinner we had a cognac in front of the fireplace - romantic. We left just before the live music started. The Black Duck a special place.

Romantic and Intimate
We thoroughly enjoyed our first dining experience finding the atmosphere romantic and intimate - perfect for celebrating a quiet birthday. Our waiter offered excellent service and accommodated our needs. The food overall was excellent; the duckling exquisite. Although there are not many entree choices and the dessert portion is too small for the price, we recommend Black Duck and will return again to enjoy another wonderful dinner.

Amazing Food and Service!
I never write reviews on restaurants but Black Duck deserves a great one. The manager couldn't have been more personable or more knowledgeable about his food and wine, which made for a very intimate dining experience. I had the espresso rubbed steak which was phenomenal and perfectly cooked and the lemon cheesecake which had just the right amount of lemon zest to balance out the cream. Overall, I would say a great date spot or a great place to catch up with friends over great food and service! Plus live Jazz on weekends!

A nice find.
Restaurant week usually has me looking for restaurants that are a bit more pricey than a normal Friday night dinner. This year I waited a bit long, I was able to make an Open Table reservation at 8:30am for dinner at 6:45pm the same evening at Black Duck.
The wine was good, our appetizers were even better ver but the main course was excellent. I had a petite filet over mashed potato and spinach and My husband was able to change the offered main course red snapper with shellfish to a red snapper without, because of an allergy. Black Duck gets high marks for that alone. We finished with a lemon cheese cake which was light and perfect.
The was live jazz an added unexpected bonus.

Solid Night Out
The day after I recommended Black Duck to a friend because it was more than casual but not over the top. And that's what you need at times: a place that provides a great meal, reasonably priced with good options on both the upper and lower end of the scale for good and wine, on-point service, and a dining setting which allows for comfortable conversation and intimacy. I will be returning in the future, no question.
