We had Russian Brick Oven
We had Russian Brick Oven Borscht, "Solyanka" Russian Smokehouse Stew, Blinis with cured wild salmon, and Veal Pelmeni. Everything was delicious, the portions were generous, the service was attentive, and we were even given a free refill of wine. My dining partner, who lived in St. Petersburg for several years, was also enthusiastic about the food and said it all tasted "just right".
Either this place has vastly improved recently, or everyone who gave the place a bad rating ordered the wrong things. I have no idea how the non-Russian dishes here are. They may in fact be bad. But at a Russian restaurant you are well advised to stick to the Russian dishes, and these Onegin does very well indeed.

We have eaten here a few times, and the food is always just fantastic! Classic home style Russian, done very fancy, but very well. My Russian mother-in-law was very pleased with the meal and equated it to things her mother would have made "had she been a better cook".
The wait staff were very accommodating, and had no problem switching from Russian to English for me. We love this place and would recommend it to anyone who wants a romantic, hip, fun Russian dinner.

A Surprise Gem
What a most pleasant surprise! We tried Onegin using a coupon from restaurant.com. Zagats was uncomplimentary. We weren't expecting much. The food was really delicious. The blinis with cured wild salmon were wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed an appetizer called Shuba??? which was a very rich "pate" made with herring, eggs and beets. It is something I will crave so we will return. It is always nice to discover a hidden gem.

I was back in St. Petersburg
Great find for authentic Russian food - from the appetizers to the desserts. Oh and don't forget the vodkas! We will go again.

Since it was our first time in New York and it was my boyfriend's birthday, I decided to take him out for a fancy dinner at a lovely restaurant. I chose Onegin because we are both writers and I had read that this restaurant was devoted to Russian literature. I wasn't mistaken. The decoration of the restaurant is amazing and the ambiance was the one I was looking for. Intimate and not too elegant as to make you feel intimidated. The food was fantastic, and we could hardly finish it because the servings were quite large. The waiter was quite attentive and he even gave me an alternative to butter since I am lactose-intolerant. Overall, it was a great experience and we loved eating and spending time there.

Say "yes" to Onegin
Surprisingly enjoyable! I must admit I was skeptical when I invited friends to join me in trying out Onegin. We had a 6:30pm reservation, and everything from the drinks, to the food and service, we had an excellent experience. We had cocktails (great espresso martini) and then dinner. Dinner: we had the salmon bilinis, oysters rockefeller, and the shrimp & avocado salad, to start. Then we had the Sea Bass and the Chicken Kiev for our entrees. It was nice to have a new dining experience and I will be back. Say "yes" to Onegin.

A Second Try
The first time I went here for dinner I found the food very good but the waiter was very rude, slow and seemed more interested in talking with his friends than waiting on our table. I was so angry I wrote a note to the restaurant. After many months and with a guest from Moscow, I decided to give it a second try and was very glad I did as the service was excellent, the food and portions spot on.

Started with appetizers and drinks at the bar - which were great - then had our entrees at a table. They had a real nice menu of infused vodkas - we tried several and they were all right on-point - and quite by accident we were there during happy hour and they were all half-price too! The menu was interesting and the selections we had were well prepared and very tasty, certainly on par with anything I've had in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The staff was courteous and attentive without being over-bearing. The pricing was actually very good for the city - especially compared to what you might pay at similar-themed places in Manhattan and Brooklyn. A thoroughly enjoyable experience overall! Would recommend to a friend and will go again!

Great food, fantastic service. They love their vodka...

The interior is creative, cozy, chic and innovative.
The service was superb! Not just good, but definitely worth of Alain Ducasse, Gordon Ramsay or any Michelin-star studded dining establishment here or in Europe. Russian-soul warmth was a great addition too.
The food itself was fantastic. It is quite a challenge to single out particular dishes, for everything was delicious, mouth-watering, cooked to perfection. We would nevertheless point out the amazing 'Salo' (cured pork belly) and Russian-style borsch. The blinis with cured salmon were out of this world and so was the herring with potatoes.
A wide range of house-infused vodkas is available. The desserts were not just a nice finishing touch but looked and tasted terrific.

Where is Everyone?
This place is really good. The lunch Prix Fixe at $20 is probably the best bargain in the neighborhood. The servings are very generous and food outstanding. I had the fish soup which was fresh and served in a bowl that could double as a tureen. The crab cake sandwich was crisp , delicious and perfectly cooked. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is that we dined all alone. There were no other diners in prime time. I will def be back.

Enjoyed the dinner
Soup and stew were very tasty. The Chicken Kiev, took about 45 minutes to prepare, which the waiter only mentioned 40 minutes into our wait. However, once it arrived, it was delicious!
The restaurant is romantically designed and fun to look at. The waiters were friendly and helpful and even lent us a book about Onegin to explain the restaurant name.
We'll go back.

Just like my grandma's cooking!
The food was delicious: savory and flavorful. The stew was rich with vegetables, meat and a wonderful sauce. The appetizers we had were delicious.

Very Good Russian Cuisine...
My wife and I ate at Onegin the other night and it was very good. The beef stroganoff was outstanding as was the salmon which was fresh and cooked to perfection. There is a large bar scene there with more vodka than imaginable, but the restaurant is separate and conducive for a good Russian meal. We will return for the very good Russian food and the diverse menu.

Had my birthday with 2 other couples. Loved the food, service and music. I wish it had a dance floor since the music was awesome!

Omg I've been craving their grilled oysters...and I'm not an oyster or mussel kind of person. The red snapper was really good and so was the salmon my bf had. Def will be going back. Their cocktails are strong, but bc it taste good you won't notice it much.
