Excellent food and ever-changing
Excellent food and ever-changing menu keeps it very interesting. Love this place.

OUTSTANDING in every way. Lovely hostess, excellent waiter and the food was spectacular. We ordered a salad with beets, goat cheese and burnt orange...almost too beautiful to eat. The combination of flavors was fresh, bright and sophisticated. We were then presented with shot glasses of some sort of green foam with crunchy bits in it. I have NO IDEA what it was but it was delicious ( ok..so we couldn't hear the waiter very well but he was really nice). For entrees we had the miso scallops and the pea pasta (can't remember what it was called) both were deeeeeelicious! We did not order dessert but we wer again presented with a yummy freebie..2 pieces of house made milk chocolate with cocoa nibs and cranberries. YUM! GO!

Great for a date, romantic evening, or if you just want some great food. We sat next to the kitchen and watched the cooking. The chef and staff all talked to us while they were cooking and came out to speak to us often. Answered all the questions we had. I had the beat salad (great flavors) and parpadello w duck confit (very good) followed by rhubarb crisp (amazing). She had asparagus (very flavorful), halibut in a curry sauce (yum), and bread pudding. They provide plenty of extra small dishes complimentary along the way including a Pre dessert of graham crackers pineapple and vanilla Ice cream that was out standing.
Definitely will come back.
Super friendly chef.

It is one of the few best restaurants in Fairfield County. All 4 courses and the wine were super. Waitress and staff very enthusiastic and friendly. Highly recommend it.

Worth a trip!
We went on a Sunday dinner so the menu selections were more limited but what we had was superbly prepared, visually pleasing and delicious. Creative approaches to traditional ingredients. As good as the food was, the service was, if anything, better. The relatively compact wine list covers all the bases with an interesting selection of wines by the glass. The only thing missing was a good Cru Beaujolais which would have been a perfect choice with our varied entrees, one person had chicken, the other fish. I will return.

Best in New Canaan
Elm is tube st dining experience in New Canaan and one of the best in Fairfield County. It has an innovative menu that changes daily, uses fresh ingredients and never fails to impress. A little pricey, but worth it.

Food was really very good.
Food was really very good. Service was pretty good but the waiter srt of did what he wanted to do rather than what we wanted.
The restaurant was less busy than I expected. Not sure if that was because it was Sunday evening. But I think the menu is a little too fussy and a little too expensive for the suburbs.
They have all the right ingredients just needs a little more focus.

Pricey But Worth It
Elm has great food; some (including me) might be concerned by the portion sizes, but the food was fantastic. seems to be the current dichotomy of better establishments-women are content with a small amount of great food; men need a bit more.
And the European-style flushers are worth a trip!

My wife and I went to Elm for our anniversary and were very pleased with our experience. We had the chef's tasting menu and found all courses to be both creative and tasty, from the crispy tuna to the foie gras cappelletti to the toasted coconut merengue with passion fruit curd and coconut sorbet. Based on previous reviews I anticipated that the portions would be small - and they were - but as long as you don't show up starving you can leave satisfied. I would definitely go back.

Very accommodating and friendly. Food was mostly excellent. Inventive, creative, tasty. For some reason one steak dish was over salted but the waiters brought 2 extra desserts for the 6 of us to share as an apology.
6/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
A lot of attention being given to new Westport restaurants but Elm is better than any of them by a mile.
6/20/2013 4:00:00 PM
great restaurant but only ok today
We ate outside and our usually very attentive waiter seemed to forget about us or was reassigned during our meal.

Food is exceptional
Really enjoyed our entire meal. For appetizers we had the oysters and tuna. Flavors and presentation amazing. Best piece of halibut we've ever tasted. The tagliatelle pasta was wonderful too--just the right bit of spice. Portion of pasta was large. Halibut not huge--but quality was amazing. Special place---there aren't many menus like this around.

Let me begin by saying that this is the first time I've taken the time to write a review. I am doing so because we had such a spectacular brunch experience. The food was absolutely delicious and the service spectacular. I know the restaurant had gotten some negative feedback when they first opened because of indifferent service but that all seems to be a thing of the past. Our server accidentally brought out something I did not order and they bent over backwards to make it right. Crayons & coloring for the kids added to the welcoming vibe. Prices for the brunch are extremely reasonable for this type of setting and a great way to sample the Elm experience. Great job.

Great food, nice atmosphere
Because it's July, Saturday night was not too busy. The service was good but laid on a bit thick. The food was wonderful - portions were not too big, and choices were very different. Nice atmosphere in the dining room.

Always a winner
Once again we returned to Elm for a special occasion and were not disappointed. I had the tasting menu for the second time in a row, and its mix of inventive delicious dishes was a winner, thru and thru. The rest of my party, foodies all, loved their exquisitely prepared dishes, from simple salads to outrageous tortellini. Brian Lewis is one of the finest chefs operating in America today. The wait staff is knowledgeable and personable, with a good humor not usually found in stuffy restaurants, and they make the evening a great deal of fun.

Great NY vibe restaurant
We had a terrific meal at Elm Friday. The ambiance is sleek, clean lines with a city feel. The service was friendly and inviting. The staff is very professional and we loved the bartender while we sat and enjoyed a cocktail before sitting down for dinner. I recommend the Chef's counter if there are two of you for dinner. It's fun to watch the professional kitchen magic while enjoying outstanding food!

We had a very nice experience with very good food and fine service. Our friends enjoyed it too. We will be back.

A Perfect Evening
We could not have been happier with this gem of a restaurant! The food and service were both world class. The elmburger was out of this world !

Best in New Canaan, no question
We had wanted to eat at Elm for a long time and found a perfect occasion for our anniversary, which event was mentioned in our reservation. Upon arrival, we were welcomed with "Happy Anniversary" greetings and, to our surprise, with 2 glasses of champagne at dinner. Appetizers of soft shell crab and "fritto misto" (tempura fried vegetables) were great, and the maine halibut and Elmburger each were perfection. Service was prompt and professional as should be expected at this caliber of restaurant. While the restaurant was almost full, it was not overly noisy and we could converse without shouting. We concluded that our meal was one of our best in recent memory and look forward to going back soon.

Very Talented Chef
I strongly recommend the Chef's tasting menu--although all options on the menu are amazing, if you do the tasting menu--opt for the wine pairings--really great experience--service exceptional-the chef is very approachable and comes out to greet guests--one of the best restaurants in CT

Another great dinner at Elm!
We enjoyed a lovely Saturday dinner from the three-salted butter with the fresh bread to my warm cookie and milkshake for dessert. We both thoroughly savored every course, the drinks, and the warm and attentive service. We have been here for brunch and dinner and will absolutely be back. Minutes from home, but feels like a NYC gem. Highly recommend it.

After hearing great reviews
After hearing great reviews from friends, my wife and I decided to try Elm for our anniversary dinner. We chose to sit outside, it was a gorgeous night, and their patio is set up nicely. We were greeted with complimentary champagne, as they knew it was our anniversary. Our waiter was very knowledgeable on the menu and wine list, and made a great recommendation on a bottle of wine. We decided to do the tasting menu, so we could get the full experience, and we were blown away by every dish. They were able to accommodate my wife's gluten allergy, which meant I got to try a couple different options than what i received. Desert was my favorite part, the chocolate and cherries desert was very rich and so delicious I highly recommend it!!

My husband and I took our 4 kids out for brunch to Elm. We were able to have a great big table, in front by the windows. The hostess was so sweet, and had coloring books and crayons handy, she also recommended that I sign the kids up for their "Little Foodies" program. We ordered a bunch of different things off the menu, the kids loved the french toast, and potatoes. My husband ordered the burger, and loved it! the combinations of flavors worked so well together. I ordered the frat-ta and kale Caesar salad, they were both perfectly seasoned and the veggies were fresh and cooked to perfections. I highly recommend this restaurant for families, it may not look it but it is very kid friendly. Plus great cocktails and food for grown ups!

Elm Dining on Wed night
The food was exquisite, and the service was excellent. We enjoyed it very much and will go to Elm again soon...The chef Brian Lewis obviously loves what he's doing...
8/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had heard so many great reviews about elm from our friends that we were somewhat worried that our expectations were a bit too high to meet, in this case they exceeded them and really blew us away!
The food was absolutely delicious, unique and presented with a real flair, unlike any other place that we have been outside of Manhattan. The soft shell crab was the best I have ever had and the foie gras was over the top, the pasta selection was exquisite, we had half portions and left room for the suckling pig and halibut, which were stellar! Service was just right, our server Andrea had a real charm about him and made us feel at home.
We can't wait to return!

Tasting is fantastic
I went with a friend on a Sunday night and we had the tasting with wine pairing. The food was fantastic and the wine was very well paired with each course. Service was outstanding, as usual. We'll be back.

Excellent quality ingredients. Very creative preparation. One of our favorite places, menus changes constantly based on season and ingredients.

The food at Elm is always
The food at Elm is always excellent, creative and fresh. Every course as good as the others - from starters to desserts.
Since Elm opened we no longer need to travel to the City for delicious and inventive cuisine.

The food was very creative with interesting combinations and tastes. Presented beautifully. The web site show a Sunday Supper prix fixe which is no longer offered. A disappointment.

The chef created vegan dishes for us that were eye appealing and delicious. He check with us while we were dining to make sure we were satisfied..... He was very open to creating food that would meet our diet needs and so pleasant with inquiry. The decor of ELM is very appealing to us too. Thanks for an outstanding dining experience.

Why no earlier reservation?
This was a great meal, good service, very nice ambiance. Sadly, we couldn't bring out-of-town guests because we were told there were no tables earlier than 8:30 pm. A quick check of the restaurant both early (6:45) and later (8:30) showed plenty of tables. Wish we could have enjoyed this place with them!

My title pretty much says it all...YUM!! We LOVE Elm . it is consistently great. The food is so finely prepared and imaginative without being contrived. My husband is a vegetarian and while most restaurants offer vegetarian options, they generally fall short and leave me feeling a little guilty (I am not a veg). The staff is very nice although as regulars we really have not gotten to "know" the staff or met the chef which we always enjoy and I feel it adds something to any place you frequent. The halibut with the curry sauce is TO DIE FOR as is the English Pea sachetti (?) . We are not dessert people but the little bite of the complimentary chocolate given with the check is a delightful finish and of course we can't say no ;)

went with a group of friends from out of town. Everyone loved it! The kitchen was able to accommodate my food allergies. Great wine list and recommendations. Will definitely bring other friends here to enjoy a nice evening out.

ELM RAISES THE BAR FOR EVERYONE
This restaurant raises the bar for the others in CT with only a few others at its level.
If you love food then you will enjoy this menu a good deal.
The vibe of this place on a WEd. evening was busy and fun. Lots of attractive people to see. I wish one could see the bar from the dining area but only a few tables do so. the wine list is very smartly chosen, some great choices, and prices are quite reasonable. It is not a big restaurant so I wish that the noise level could be down a bit. HIghly recommended. T/he chef even said a very sincere good night to us. Kale is the new hot thing right now but the Elm Kale Ceasar salad is the only decent salad I have tasted in many tries at other restaurants thus far.

Fairfield County Gem
This chef is just a notch above his fairfield county piers. A little more inventive, more technique driven, and just a great overall experience in a modern but relaxed environment. We did the tasting menu the first time and brunch this time and both experiences were elevated from what you expect

You get what you pay for
Everything was excellent albeit small portions. They have the best iced tea I have ever had despite the fact you only get about 4 ounces of tea and to my surprised they charged me another $4. for a refill. I asked for some ice cream on top of my goat cheesecake and the waiter brought out a separate large bowl with a ball of ice cream the size of a melon ball and you guessed it, I found it on my bill. In such an upscale place one would think a tea refill or bit of ice cream on a nine dollar dessert would be gratis. But overall the service was pretty good though not as attentive as I would have liked. The quality of the food can't be beat, however.

Worth the $$
My husband and I went here for our anniversary and ordered the Chef's Tasting. Every dish was inspired and delicious, the service was impeccable and they made sure to make us feel special for our special occasion. Would highly recommend.

Quite a find
My wife and I went to The Elm for our 35th anniversary dinner after an afternoon at the Glass House. I chose it from Yelp reviews. It was really a wonderful place. They let us sit in a huge booth in the bar at our request and brought us complimentary champagne as I had let them know of the occasion. The food was excellentall around. If i had any suggestion to make it would be that the food needs to arrive to the table hotter. We lovedthe foie gras app, the suckling pig, the crab app, the kale caesar salad and the pineapple dessert. which arrived with "Happy 35th Anniversary" written in chocolate on the plate. We will definitely return even though it is a 45 minute drive.

Excellent and Creative Food
Tasting menu was very interesting and well prepared. We recommend ordering the short rib; fluke crudo; bliss maple bacon & eggs; and foie gras cappelletti with morels, prunes, and almonds.

Best food I have had in a while. Great, interesting menu.
11/19/2013 4:00:00 PM
The food is extraordinary. Chef Lewis has a genius for using unique but complementary tastes and textures, without being forced or contrived. At least once every meal my girlfriend and I taste something and roll our eyes as if to say, "How could something be this good?" The service is superior - the waitstaff is knowledgeable and attentive, without being overly pushy. I would be remiss if I didn't mention Max - I believe he is the manager - who has a steel trap memory and a deep knowledge of both his menu and wine list. Trust him to pair for you.
Elms is not inexpensive. But the food is typically such a revelation we always feel like we got more than our money's worth.

Great for a single or for the holidays! Thanksgiving was delicious!

Best Thanksgiving Dinner
Have eaten at Elm many a time and the food and the experience is top rate. Thanksgiving turkey was the best ever. Thanks Brian for being open this year, it made eating out on Thanksgiving memorable.

This is an excellent restaurant
This is an excellent restaurant with a French pedigree to brag on. The food was spectacular for brunch. Consistent with the regional cuisine, the dishes were very butter-heavy, so if that is not your favorite, then go once every couple months instead of every week...it's worth it!
