A Treasure for the Tongue
This restaurant engaged all five senses. Visually the food was beautifully presented. The textures were varied and wonderful. The flavor of every dish was excellent. The restaurant was quiet and intimate. The aroma of each dish was terrific! I thought the whole dining experience was one of the best I have encountered.

Outstanding romantic meal
One of the top 10 meals I ever had. Great food, service and romantic!

Wine list pricing is 3 to
Wine list pricing is 3 to 4 times retail, that is too high. Also the $240 montrachet served was a little past its time, the sommelier should have mentioned that as he tasted it first and knew it. I had guests and chose not to make fuss about it but did not like it especially as the wine was so over priced.

A Lovely Restaurant
It's pretty much all couples. The service an impeccable ballet of presentations. The food consisted of seven courses that were exquisitely prepared and tastefully displayed. A few folks were photographing their plates. The wine list included prices I didn't know were possible. The chef was very accommodating to my wife's food wishes in spite of fixed menu. She experienced a set of dishes that were almost completely different than mine. The meal seems slightly formal and stiff, but loosened up over the course of the evening. It was a special dining experience and not priced for the faint of heart nor those interested in less than the best. Overall very fun and something worthy of a discerning palette.

Fabulous food and romantic ambience
Innovative fusion food, using the freshest ingredients. Great value too compared to food of similar quality (freshness but not quite in terms is taste though) from Singapore where I come from. Attentive service too and romantic ambience. Would highly recommend this restaurant to all foodies, and I'll definitely be back when I next come back to San Francisco.

Creative dishes shine
We had the chef's tasting menu, and the standouts were the green pea soup, which had amazing pop of flavors from the fresh vegetables submerged in a fresh minty puree. The opening dish of sea urchin mousse with scallop sashimi was also sublime. It's worth noting that the portions were small and I did not "fill up" as I would have at similar places like Gary Danko or Fleur de Lys. Service was professional as expected. I did not care for the decor, which was like "grandma's parlor" complete with dusty pink walls. Overall, the chef's passion is evident and this restaurant is worth a try.

We went on Father's Day and had the 7 course tasting menu. The food was excellent! The presentation was even better. The wine list is massive. The service was impeccable. Keiko is a true Master Chef!!
6/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Best tasting menu I've ever had (including at Coi and Benu). Really interesting and flavorful plates. Perfect Goldilocks sized portion (not too big, not too small). We didn't have a lot of time and the wait staff accomodated our unusually fast pace (had to get home for the babysitter). Really wonderful and unique. Only problem would be for someone with nut allergies - they used a lot of nuts.
6/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
What an Fantastic meal. All around. I don't understand how they do not have more than 'one star' - a much finer experience than any other restaurant in the same category. Truly special- just go.

Amazing culinary experience
Dinner here was a wonderful culinary journey. The chef does an excellent job in creating a unique menu combining many tastes and contrasting flavors. The food is Asian influenced yet also includes a nod to Adria and molecular gastronomy. We also did a wine pairing which I also recommend as it very much enhances the whole experience (the sommelier is very knowledgeable as well).

Exceptional Dining Experience
Exquisitely prepared food down to every detail, imaginative combination of ingredients, accompanying wine pairing thoughtfully chosen, attentive and informative service-one of the best dining experience of our lives. This small restaurant on Nob Hill richly deserves its one star Michelin rating and I think should be in line for another star.
6/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Exeptional food and great wine but
One of the greatest chefs and great wine list though pairing is not done professionally... too bad.
6/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
One of the best meals
Keikos was easily one of the best meals I have ever had.
7/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
The only problem I ever have with this place is the fact that the wine corkage is $55 per bottle, and the fact that they do not carry any of these wines on their wine list seems unfair, The wine prices are steep at the resturaunt, they are not that fantastic. Paying over $100 for their cheapest bottle seems unfair in this city. The wine stewart is a bore and is not very helpful to assist you. The food is great, the wine pairing are too expensive and seriously, to get that type of Zagats rating, it ALL NEEDS TO WORK! When I go to dinner I like to eat and drink what I want, Wine and Food equal a great resturaunt, PS they also do not even have a list for cocktails if that is part of your fine dining experience
7/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent fixed price menu.
Excellent fixed price menu. The wagyu supplement is worth it and amazing.
7/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
We went based on the Michelin ratings and we were not disappointed! Possibly the best meal I have had and certainly one of the top 3.The creativity in combining the food and flavors is unmatched and the presentation first rate. I highly recommend Keiko a Nob Hill and will go back.

Deserves the Michelin Star
The multi-course menu was extremely well prepared and each course was individually enjoyable will the entire set built on itself. We didn't give it 5 stars as in some cases the preparation over-shadowed the ingredients. Wine pairing was professional and introduced us to interesting wines that we normally would not come across. We've been to the site over its varous incarnations, starting before it's Charles Nob Hill days, and it's a great venue - warm, with a lot of history. Service was a 10 - leisurely pace with the right attention to detail. I could do without bringing out examples of the day's special ingredients however - that doesn't work at this type of restuarant. Overall an enjoyable experience with good memories.
7/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Kind of sublime
Profound cognitive dissonance. Overpriced & worth it. Goodness in hyper-concentrated form. Too expensive. Too f'ing awesome.
7/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Amazing food, the rest just ok
Went there for our anniversary as we read about it being a romantic venue - unfortunately our experienced was very mixed.
FOOD - most important part and fortunately they did this well. Flavors were perfectly balances, portions were appropriate. Overall outstanding. They did use a foam on just about every course, which was a little too much, but that's a minor nit.
SERVICE - needs improvement, none of the staff seemed to want to be there. We let the Sommelier choose our champagne, he chose way overpriced glasses ($50/each) and then forgot to bring it out for 3 courses. Bush league.
AMBIANCE - could be nice, but tables are slightly too large so you sit far apart and have to talk louder than necessary, which ruins the romantic vibe.

Highly recommend this place.
So glad that we finally came to this restaurant. Everything was absolutely delicious with beautiful presentation. We didn't go for the Wagyu beef, but went for the fresh black truffles served with lobster ravioli. Yummy!
The service was professional and friendly. The only problem was the sommelier tried to upsell the wines.
Highly recommend this place.

Outstanding experience. Each
Outstanding experience. Each course was full of flavors that mix nicely on the palate. We took the wine pairing that was generous and well thought out. We are looking forward to returning.

For a special occasion
Keiko was a very special experience. Expect food with a wow factor. $95 for a 7 course menu and 2 fantastic amuse bouches.

Keiko continues to shine!
Took some friends from the south bay for their first time. Incredible food, great service and wine. Absolutely our favorite restaurant. The flavor combinations coupled with extraordinary presentation makes Keiko's a true culinary destination. You won't be disappointed.

Great food. Chef keiko takahashi is definitely worthy
of Michelin star and hopefully two stars soon to come. Excellent meal even if I could barely afford the indulgence in addictions. Lol

My boyfriend and I were greeted by two friendly people as we entered. The whole experience was great. Th food was delicious. The wine list was extensive! We had a great wine that was recommended by the sommelier. Only one barrel was made! It went very well with the entire meal. We had a great time, and would love to go again!

Wait staff was very friendly.
Wait staff was very friendly. The "serve from the left, clear from the right", and all dishes being served simultaneously professionalism of other top restaurants was missing, but it made for a more relaxed environment. Wine pairings were a miss, but the food was so fabulous, and the ambiance pleasant, that I still give it 4.5 stars overall. I would suggest skipping the pairings (as even the sommelier seemed to be suggesting in hindsight) and pick one of the fabulous bottle selections. The food is 5 star and a great value for the quality and attention paid to the food.

SanFransco's next 3 star restaurant
The combination of rare and exciting ingredients in each of the seven courses reflects a culinary genius that is rarely found. Although the $95 price of the dinner seems quite reasonable, the extensive wine list is on the expensive side and lacks few choices under $50 a bottle, most at least several hundred dollars. Furthermore, the corkage fee of $55 seems overly pretentious. There may also be wines featured on the restaurant website which the somellier may deny have ever been recently available. Nonetheless, the dark and intimate atmosphere provides the perfect background for what is likely to be three hours of unparalleled dining enjoyment.

Every aspect of this meal
Every aspect of this meal was fabulous, from the setting to the way the tables are placed, to the presentation of the food to the tastes. Each dish was thought out beautifully, complex, yet subtle in taste but often simple in presentation. The lobster ravioli was sublime and the duck breast was delicious. The chocolate dessert was gorgeous to look at and eat.
A member of our party was delayed arriving, yet the restaurant was very understanding.
The only down side is the lack of valet parking. It can be very difficult to find parking near by

inventive creative cuisine
We all loved the tasting menu. The dishes didn't just look good, they tasted wonderful!
The best elaborate meal we've had in San Francisco in years.

Went to Keiko for our anniversary. Service was amazing, the multi-course dinner was a flavor and visual experience for the senses.
We added the kobe steak and an amazing bottle of red wine to our selections and our evening was complete. The stand outs included the duck, the kobe, the lobster ravioli and figs.
The deserts were perfect and the wine that was suggested was the perfect compliment to our night. The wife was surprised and highly approved my choice for dinning (thank goodness). The total bill for everything was on the higher side to say the least. But like all truly wonderful experiences in life, it was worth every penny.
Parking was a challenge, arrive a bit early. Took us about 15 minutes to find street parking.

Tasting menu/pairing at its best
Keiko offers a tasting menu in the dining room (I think it's a la carte at the bar) with wine pairings that is innovative in a very refined way. We had the second pairing (there are three levels, moderate, slightly higher and nose-bleed), which offered more reds and a lovely array of wines. Every dish was artfully presented, delicious and prepared with a lighter touch, not leaden, and the best part was we weren't stuffed to the gills when we left. There was a Wagyu beef option which my husband went for and loved - might have been one of his favorite courses. A beautiful evening, we will definitely return.

Keiko à Nob Hill
I have had the privilege of eating at 3 Micheline Star Le Bernardine in NYC, as well as Gary Danko and La Folie. Gary Danko is pretentious and overrated, but that's another story. KàNH, I dare say, is a cut above them all. The familiar Japanese flavors prepared with French technique is concept that I could not have conceived of, at least not in the way KàNH approaches it. It is beyond artistry, venturing into chemistry with foams, smokes, and liquid nitrogen. Every dish is literally culinary genius and surprise of the highest order. I will refrain from the usual descriptions of each dish because I cannot do them justice. But I will recommend the optional grade 5A wagyu ribeye. It's $65 for two 1.5oz slices, and worth every damn penny.

Now I know why Keiko received
Now I know why Keiko received a Michelin Star. The chef is able to combine artistry, delicious food, and some very unique and beautiful presentations, resulting in an outstanding experience. The waiter spent time to artfully explain each unique course. I highly recommend this restaurant to people who really appreciate the best in dining. You will not be disappointed!
10/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food, mediocre wines
We had the standard seven-course tasting menu, which was excellent -- well deserving of the restaurant's one Michelin star. Keiko offers three accompanying wine pairings, which run from $85 per person for basic to $270 for over-the-top. We had the basic, which was disappointing. Two of the six or so wines were excellent -- an Oregon red and a vintage Port. One was good. The other three or so were bland and uninteresting. Furthermore, the wines weren't very well paired. Keiko deserves some slack because we ordered the basic wines, but we've had better pairings and better wines elsewhere for this price.
10/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
Not quite sure why they have a Star
Food was good, but not quite at the level of other Michelin-starred restaurants. The cuisine is better described as Japanese food prepared by a French-trained chef, rather than Japanese-inspired French food. Tasty, but pretty normal.
Keiko has a giant collection of some of the finest wines in the country and more. But the Grand-level wine pairings were surprisingly merely okay. We didn't think some of the pairings worked as well as it should have. Another strange and slightly off-putting experience was that the sommelier pre-poured our wines before clumsily bringing it to our table. Our limited experience has always been to pour at the table so we know what we're getting.
Overall, Keiko is a good restaurant, but we probably won't be back.
10/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
Perfect for a special occasion
We celebrated our wedding anniversary and my husband's birthday at Keiko. The ambiance is dimly lit, perfect for an intimate dinner. The dining area is small, only a handful of tables but there is more than enough space between the tables for private conversation. The food was excellent with complex flavors. We were seated immediately, the dinner service was impeccable. We ordered the supplemental course of Wagyu beef and it was delicious. Worth the extra money added to the tasting menu price. The sommelier was very helpful and our wine selections complemented our meals and tastes.
10/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very good -- 5th visit
Very good, as always: the amuses, the lobster, and the cheese course (always interesting) were stand-outs this time. The sommelier is very good, knowledgeable and generous with tastes, but was a bit pushy in directing us where he wanted to go and seemingly not very willing to find something along the lines of our initial wishes.
10/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
Exceeded my expectations!
From the time you are warmly greeted at the entrance to the restaurant you feel like you are a special guest. Each dish's presentation was like no other I have been to (except in Tokyo) and the food was fantastic! Our friendly waiter was attentive and knowledgable of each dish. My only recommendation is to add art work in the dining room. We are looking forward to dining there again on our next trip to San Francisco.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Quite a wonderful experience!
Imaginative, well executed food. We were lucky enough to be seated in the wine room which is by far much nicer than the dining room.
Sommelier and staff were lovely and knowledgeable. A terrific evening!

Great food and wine experience
The food was amazing, each dish trying to outperform the other. The combination of western and asian cuisine creates a unique experience. The ambiance is very quiet and private. The only minus was that the dishes came a little fast which did not allow us to fully enjoy all impressions.
10/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
Not really Japanese
This is a wonderful food experience but not much from Japan except the chef. A very romantic spot for a quiet and excellent meal.
My only comment would be that the service should slow down a bit so that each course can be appreciated and enjoyed with the wine. Also they should replace the stainless steel with silver plate (hotel plate) for a more appropriate and elegant look.

Definitely the place to go to celebrate a special occasion or to go to enjoy a terrific meal with impectable service
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
Very pleasant experience. Food, service, ambiance, and presentation all impeccable. Even with a nearly full seating our conversation remained unhindered. This included an eight top of British and a six top of Japanese business men. In many rooms that much basso would make communication difficult.

We ate food we'd never tried before. Uni. Wagyu beef. Nasturtium. Sesame butter on a fig. All excellent and all beautifully presented. The attentive and exceptionally intelligent service was just right. Very comfortable place without any stuffiness. Would go back, but will have to save up a little. Thank you!
