Great brunch overall. Pretty good food. Bottomless mimosas were good but heavy on the OJ unfortunately. AWESOME service!

Lobster Lovers Must Try
Since my experience in Puerto Nuevo Mexico's lobster feast, I've been looking for something comparible here in CA. Finally, I found it here at Ortega's. They served everything just like in Mexico, with the tortilla's, rice, beans, and whole lobster. I never thought I could eat an entire lobster but I did. Though the food wasn't as wonderful as I remember it in Puerto Nuevo, the side dishes were mediocre at best, and the lobster was just a bit on the dry side, but it was still pretty good. And at a bargain of $39 for all of that food it is worth trying. Go for brunch and have a bloody mary with it, or mimosa and make it special!

We always enjoy eating at
We always enjoy eating at Ortega's. This restaurant is our favorite Mexican restaurant in San Diego. The menu offers more authentic Mexican dishes, not just tacos and enchiladas, like so many Mexican restaurants. I wish it was closer to our house.

Highlights and Lowlights
They offer a wide variety of margaritas but there is so much ice in the glass that you only get about 3 or 4 sips of the actual drink. The chips and salsa are so good you need to control your desire to eat the whole basket and ask for more. The lobster, unfortunately was a little on the dry side, which was disappointing for the price, but it's size was generous. The shrimp tacos were excellent and the beans tasty. We've eaten here before, and learned that some menu items are fantastic, while others are so so. All in all, it remains one of our favorite Mexican restaurants.

Ortega's with a crowd
We were gathering family from all over the country in San Diego for the weekend and looking for a good mexican meal for a crowd of nine, but I forgot it was Cinco de Mayo weekend - so I googled "best mexican restaurants in san diego" and Ortega's came up. The food was great, the location convenient, the staff were very accomidating and the prices extreamly reasonable! I would definitely recommend to any groups, large or small!

Ortega's offers bottomless mimosas for about $10. The servers are very prompt to refill your glasses, and they continuously refill. The servers were great and very accommodating to our group. The food was great especially their mole dish. The only thing negative I could say is that their ensanada fish taco entree is a very small dish. Expect to still be hungry if you order this. I would recommend the mole or burrito option instead. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant to friends.

One of my all time faves and always will be - especially the Puerto Nuevo style lobster that brings me back to my younger days going to Mex for lobster and margs!

Friends old and new
Friends from LA were down for San Diego Pride 2013; we've known them for 25 years, and they introduced us to another couple they've known for 30 years! I chose Ortega's as a tried and true establishment- the food, drink and atmosphere did not disappoint. Yum!

UNUSUAL MEXICAN -- BUT YUMMY
We noticed Ortega in Open Table and decided to try it. We sat outside and found the atmosphere relaxing (even a cute local dog!). Service was good and we especially enjoyed the preparation of the guacamole at the table.; delicious The Cadillac Margarita was well-prepared. Often at Happy Hours the drinks are cheaper but watered down or half portions and not representative; this was the real deal and very good. I had a Caesar Salad with steak, which was done perfectly. I like medium rare and it actually came out medium rare. My wife had Carnitas and thought it was well-prepared.
My only disappointment was that they didn't have Fajita's. However, it was explained that the food was from a different part of Mexico. No problem!

Appetizers (table side guacamole
Appetizers (table side guacamole and queso) were spectacular. Their home made flour tortillas are to die for. The taco entrees were good but not as great as the appetizers. Great outdoor patio, small but quaint and dog friendly. Margaritas are excellent as well.

Great food in neighborhood setting
Food was fantastic, a cut above the rest. Homemade Tortillas were so amazing we ordered more for dessert! Ambiance lacking and no parking nearby.

Ortega's has always been a favorite. My family was excited when they opened a restaurant in San Diego. We didn't have to drive all the way down to Mexico for their famous and delicious puerto nuevo soup. The food is always consistantly good. The service isn't stellar. It depends on who you get. Overall dining experience is good. Decor is pleasant and bright. The breakfast options are great. I highly recommend eating here. It is a little pricey but worth it.

Best guacamole, made at the table with fresh stuff. Salsa was good, but got a wad a cilantro stems that could have been left out. I had the Mole which was well done. My son had the enchiladas and said they were fantastic.
