We usually try and stop here
We usually try and stop here for at least one dinner during our passing through SB. This place is a trip back to the 50's neighborhood Italian joint. The have booths, outdoor dining and the food is great. This is not a 5 star place just because they don't do any out of the box preparation, they just do a good job with consistent results.
Moderately priced, great menu, we will be back again.

A Santa Barbara Gem
The food is delicious, especially the salads. Great calamari! Waiter forgot to serve my salad, I had to get up and go get him to put in the order. Try the Chicken Milanese. Love the bocce ball court. It's a locals' gem!

I went here for a before Prom
I went here for a before Prom dinner with a group of 20. I had never been before, but had it reccomended to me by a family member. The outside is a little deceiving because it looks like a stone box, but once inside the ambiance is fantastic. It is old Santa Barbara style; elegant Spanish looking. We had a back room to ourselves that fit everyone comfortably. We could see outside the windows and the back has a beautiful patio with a bocce ball court. The service was wonderful and attended is right away. The food came out quickly and was delicious! The portion size was just right and their were no complaints from our party. The price is not cheap, but not overpriced either. Expect to pay $20 a person. Overall it was AWESOME!

Locals only place been there for 100+ years. Tourists need not apply. Especially don't order the pizza, since it's not on the menu. Bon appetito!

Good food, great time.
Few places offer such fine dining with an amazingly fun atmosphere. The food was great but we really enjoyed the bocce ball courts. It's actually why we came here. We shared the gnocchi and a steak (i dont remember which one but it was awesome-it had mushrooms and spinach atop it). We sat outside on the patio so we got to watch others playing bocce ball while we ate which was quite humerous. Then we played...i havent laughed that much in a while.

We had a large party and enjoyed
We had a large party and enjoyed watching the Bocce tournament as we talked, laughed and dined. The arugula salad was delicious. The pesto pasta was a little heavy in the basil but delicious, nonetheless. Best of all was the people I was with. And the Prosecco. Someone was kind enough to send our table a bottle to enjoy and we did. We had a lovely time.

Celebrated my son's UCSB graduation at Arnoldi's. Nice place, casual - we sat in a semi-enclosed booth which was fun. Food was great. Nice wine. Would go there again next time I'm in SB. Thanks!

What a gem!
Found this awesome neighborhood restaurant on OT while traveling to Santa Barbara. Doesn't look like much on the outside but oh so lovely once you walk in the door! We sat outside under the vines and watched the energetic bocce ball league play. Food was outstanding. Their spectacular lasagna was surprisingly light and not too heavy for a summers evening. What a great meal and time we had! We will definitely be returning each time we visit our daughter at UCSB. And the wait staff was lovely to look at as well! ;)

Nondescript building but rewarding
This place is easy to drive past, as it is just an old sandstone building with small signage. It is a local institution and appears to have many regular diners. The menu is large and the food is excellent. The service is very good, although the menus could use a wipe-down to remove some of the old wine stains. It may not be a first date restaurant, but is a great place to bring people who want a very good Italian meal. Try the Ravioli di Carne or the Fettucini con Salciccia.

Italian Gem gets better with age
Arnoldi's Cafe is off the beaten path of the State Street dominated restaurant corridor in Santa Barbara, tucked away in an older semi-residential/industrial neighborhood which is just the ticket. You have to know about this place to visit it and I like it that way. During the summer dine outdoors in the garden if you can. It reminded me of some of the spots I visited in Tuscany. The food was simple but delicious. Service was attentive without being obtrusive. There was a mix of families, couples and and two very large parties and no one got in each others way. A few people played Bocce after eating. Overall just a really nice dining experience.

Loved the grilled salmon
but skip the chicken parmasan sandwich--too much bread and too much breadiing.

Authentic Italian dishes and a very welcome escape from trendiness that besets Santa Barbara.

Second Time-Will Come Back for More
I have made a couple of visits recently to Arnoldi's Cafe and both of my visits have been worth the price of admission as the saying goes. I like the eating in an an upbeat atmosphere and the hum of people enjoying themselves is always a pleasant accompaniment to food that is not "overly" prepared. The wine list is good but there are only about 15 italian reds to choose from so if you have a really good bottle of Brunello or Chianti Riserva bring it as the $18 corkage is not really an obstacle.

Genuine & Simple - but still Amazin
Owned by an awesome family that shows through in the vibrant, opened armed atmosphere. I felt like a long, lost cousin there!
What a joy! And great place to dine or meet up with friends for a drink!

Arnoldi's is great
The food is great ( I personally love the lasagna). The wait staff if excellent. Reminds me of a family owned bar/restaurant from the midwest. And the bocci ball courts are unique.

I chose Arnoldis for my 32nd Birthday party. I had originally made my reservation for 15 people and ended up having 30 people come! The service was great. Without any hesitation the waiters provided another table. Services was excellent. I love the outside seating area and the Bocci Ball game! I would reccommend this place!

Bocce ball and casual Italian
Great outdoor dining scene with two bocce ball courts if your in the mood. Good food and a great atmosphere. We had an enjoyable evening sitting outside listening to a great acoustic guitarist playing some classic 70s songs while enjoying a glass of wine and playing a little bocce ball while waiting for our dinner. Fun local scene away from State Street.

Good food with outdoor dining
The restaurant was good but not outstanding. Food was better than average and the outdoor dining was nice. Cannot compare to higher end Italian restaurants.

All around great place
I can't complain about anything other than other customers letting their kids run wild in the outdoor bocce ball courts. But overall, it is a great restaurant. Fantastic food, excellent service and great atmosphere. We love Arnoldis

Dine outdoors near the bocce
Dine outdoors near the bocce courts and watch the games. One can eat and play some bocce between courses.

Went for lunch. The food is excellent. My wife had the vegetable lasagna. It was outstanding. I had the chicken sandwich. The chicken was great, but the bread is really thick. I left most of it behind. The service was a bit slow, even though it was a weekday with a small group of customers. Nevertheless, I strongly recommend this place.

Sweet 16th Family Party
Service was outstanding; waiters &bussers were on top of it. The appetizers were large portioned, fresh and delicious. The pastas were also large portions, and very tasty, good sauces and all cooked al dente. The pizzas were thin and crispy. Perfect outdoor Santa Barbara ambiance for a large party. We had 24 people including kids and babies. Really I cannot think of a better choice. I would say with drinks and appetizers we probably spent $25 per person which was so worth it. We did not order desserts, instead bringing our own which they had no problem with. I will go there again for sure. Thank you to everyone at Arnoldi's for a great evening.

We have driven by this place for years because it looks like a neighborhood drinking hole. We were invited to a party and really had a great time. The outdoor patio is fun. There are 2 bocce ball courts . It is a great place for a party.

Arnoldi's is an excellent restaurant for families and with friends. The food and the service were excellent.. It was great to the enjoy the outdoor setting at the back of the restaurant. We enjoyed the music during the meal. Again, everything was excellent.

Outside vs Inside
We were seated inside, but our experience would have been totally different had we sat outside.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
This is a restaurant "come-back story!" Arnoldi's was a gem many years ago and then went through a very rough patch. Now it is not only back, it is better than ever!
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Arnoldis is by far the best place in Santa Barbara! The staff is always glad to see you and they always make you feel welcome. The atmosephere in the bocci courtyard is old school Santa Barbara charm making the place a local gem. The food isnt gormet but it is always consistantly good and never lets you down. I love Arnoldis.

Great Family Restaurant
I had the veal scallopini marsala and my wife had the salmon. Lemon tiramisu for desert. Everything was excellent including the wine (chianti and chardonnay). Traditional flavor (I am first generation Italian) but without old school heaviness. Not noisy outside. There were two very large groups dining at the same time and we could speak in normal tones. Prices are reasonable. Have been there for both lunch and dinner. Go - you won't be disappointed.

Winter Bocce Night
Great neighborhood restaurant. Food is not pretending to be gourmet, just tasty Italian. Their pizzas are thin-crust--not on the menu-- are the best. Ask and they will usually make your choice.. Staff is very accommodating and will know you after two visits. On a cool fall evening, nothing better than a hearty red wine, outside watching the locals "roll".
