Fresh and unique
Delicious! Fresh innovative food but with down to earth sweet servers who love food as much as we do! Had the grass fed burger and a gluten free beer- perfect!

Great food, great service!
Server was attentive, food was tasty, what more could you want?

Sharp focus on locally-sourced food
…beer and wine. The beer list even tells you how far the beer has traveled since being brewed. Lots of restaurants will list one or two locally sourced items, but The Farmhouse makes this an act of faith; just about every major ingredient shows its origin and most are from the Illinois/Wisconsin/Michigan/Indiana region.
Dishes are imaginative, but straightforward, well prepared and served with enthusiasm and joy.

We loved it.
My date and I had a lovely time and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The portions were appropriate and the atmosphere was lively but still allowed us to have a conversation. We look forward to our next visit.

Excellent dining experience
Wonderful menu - both food and drinks - and great atmosphere. Servers were on point and knowledgeable. Will look forward to dining there again.

Local & Paleo Friendly
I was drawn in by the locally sourced aspect of the menu and loved the accommodations the chef made to make my meal Paleo-friendly. All food and drinks were enjoyed by everyone in our party and the atmosphere was great for friendly conversation.

Perfect Finish for our Trip
We have had remarkable luck with picking great restaurants on our visits to Chicago, and this was another one that we loved. From the service to the craft cocktails and farm to table menu selection, everything was superb! They were happy to make some accommodations for dietary reasons and all was delivered with good cheer and enthusiasm. We look forward to our next visit with high expectations.

Fun Chicago Restaurant
Had fun and a great meal at this place. The maple bread pudding was fabulous.

Adrian was our server. He was extremely well informed about the menu and the drink list. Adrian explained not only how each dish was prepared but also where the ingredients came from. The food was excellent.

Repeat visits allow patrons to taste the menus varied offerings, including local farm to table options. Favorite starters include the jerkey and nuts and chips w/AMAZING dill dip! Have had the hangar steak appetizer as an entre when paired with the arugula salad and a few starters. Have had the mac & cheese side as an entre when paired with a chopped salad and a few starters. Obviously, the build your own burger is a big hit. Can't wait to try something new on the menu!

This was our second time at Farmhouse, and will definitely be back again...Very vibrant with lots of conversation and people bustling both upstairs and down. Our food was EXCELLENT (pork chop/ trout) and our waiter was knowledgeable and speedy. This was a great first stop on a wonderful evening...Would recommend to anyone looking for top quality food without paying for scene/attitude.

Farm to Table with an Edge
Careful, thoughtful preparation of well-sourced ingredients is expected in many upscale restaurants, but a commitment to farm-to-table in an edgy, bar-type setting is an unexpected pleasure. Portions are generous, service is friendly and the atmosphere is young and raucous. Enjoy!

One of everything please
Everything here was crazy good! My friends and I went there for my birthday and we each got a different entree and passed around samples. Everything tasted fantastic. I especially enjoyed the mac n cheese and the mussels. And if you can afford it, splurge on the cheese curds. $8 for such a tiny serving, but so incredibly delicious.

Great food, great service...
I am already looking forward to returning to the Farmhouse Tavern! Definitely give it a try!
8/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Farmhouse as great! Our waiter was so nice and helpful. Definitely try the cheese curds with homemade sauces. The drinks were also amazing and they have a great selection! We had the burger and veggie burger which were also very good.

Reliably Very, Very Good
Always a great meal at the Farmhouse. This time we brought some relatives from Michigan who were impressed by the many craft beers and the locally sourced food. We'll be back...

I love this place!
I only wish I lived closer, so that the Farmhouse Tavern could be on my weekly rotation!
8/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
Farmhouse's food was excellent. The dishes' unusual flavor combinations are a treat, and portion sizes are just right -- filling but not too much to finish.
We sat outside so I can't comment on the indoor ambience, but I'd love to go back and check it out.

Great food, not enough space
Delicious food, great decor, waiter was nice and very knowledgeable. Only complaint was that we asked for a "private" table and the hostess sat us at a table smashed in between two tables that were only inches from our table. Very crowded seating.
8/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
What a great experience - the food was great, the service was friendly and quick - what more can you ask for? What a pleasure to dine here!

All Around Excellent
I went to Farmhouse with a friend visiting from out of town. The food was absolutely amazing. We split the mussels (great sauce!), and I ordered the walleye with pickled strawberries. Everything was so creative and well worth the money. The waiter was very attentive and friendly. I would definitely recommend going here for any occasion.

Usually great, disappointed time
I've been several times, and am usually very impressed with the food and experience. I took some friends from out of town this week, and there were a couple of problems. All our wine choices were "out." The serving sizes got smaller. It was delicious, but disappointing. I'll try again, but I'm a little hesitant now, whereas I was a huge supporter before.

Great food and atmosphere
We got a seat outside and had a great dinner experience. The food was good and the service was great.

Excellent local food
The duck with the Michigan cherries and polenta is something I dream about. It's SO GOOD. Love that they only go local to the Midwest brews and foods. The server mixed up our beers, but I wasn't mad about it. They were both very good.

Loved everything about this restaurant - great local craft beers, delicious food, fantastic and friendly service. Can't wait to go back!!

Cheese curd appetizer was phenomenal. Had the chicken soup with dumplings followed by the trout. Both were excellent.
Server was very knowledgeable. Fun and funky place for dinner.

Came here with family on recommendation of a friend. Two of Five diners said it was the best meal we've had ever! (and we've tried most of the "best" chicago restaurants).

A Fun Informal Place
Relaxed atmosphere with good food and friendly attentive service. Very enjoyable. We will be back.

Excellent well prepared ,great
Excellent well prepared ,great quality food!
As a principle we support the idea of fresh local food, but the farmhouse added fabulous cooking . We tried the pig ears, the cheese ball and pork chop, cat fish , duck breast . All the dishes were outstanding. The pork chop was cooked to perfection, potato nicely blanched. The pig ears were crispy and just a little soft as they should. The dishes were apparently simple but the complexity of the sauces, the balance of the ingredient and moreover the perfect execution made them memorable. I had dinner in Chicago many time, sometime in more acclaimed restaurant , but this was one of the best! We will be back! Yes we shared the table and the atmosphere was convivial and not imposing.

We ordered crispy pig ears, beet salad, cheese curds for appetizers. Then a lot of fish for entrees - fish and chips, catfish, and Arctic char (sub for trout that day). Portions are modest and all great!
The cheese curds are the meltiest stringiest I've ever met. Yum!

Local sources at River North Chicao
So happy we took the recommendation of our local food editor to try this spot before the wait is so long that you can't get a reservation a week out. I definitely will return with friends, even those who are not beer lovers. Though the menu is small, it is mighty; and, from our meal and those around us, well-prepared no matter whether fish, fowl or hoof. We got there at 7 and sat upstairs -- thank you for seating us there-- where we could converse easily without shouting. By the time we left, it was full and the noise level was climbing; but that was close to 9 and a time when younger voices climb in volume.

Would like to Come Back for a Beer
Went on a vendor lunch at Farmhouse. The spot was easy for me to get to (work right by the Merchandise Mart, was approx 10 minute walk) and right away I was welcomed in by the easy going music and vibe. The waiter was excellent. He recognized how to wait on a table that was talking business which a lot of newby waiters don't understand. Very knowledgeable about the items. I had the fish and chips - I wasn't crazy about it - a tad greasy and a dessert that was ok but not flavorfully outstanding. However, the ambience and the service will have me coming back for a beer.

adorable decor, above average food
menu is really simple but the cheese curds are a total must.
9/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great service. Love especially the local wine selection. Fun for a group.

The food and service were very good, but the tables are very close together. Instead of feeling like I was having dinner with my husband I felt like I was sitting at a table for 6

Loved the decor and dedication
Loved the decor and dedication to sticking to local products. The gin selection was impressive! Great spot for brunch, but definitely laid back service so be ready to hang out a bit.

A great local bar
There was a great ambience that included a nice, diverse crowd. The music was awesome and they have a great selection of beers on tap! The food this time around was ok but not as good as prior menus. That said, the menu frequently changes so it won't hold be back from going again. A consistent, delicious item though, the cheese curds!
10/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Desserts really shined!
Our dinners were pretty great-- char and short rib papardelle-- but dessert, which so many restaurants fall short on, was incredible. The carrot cake bread pudding was especially wonderful. The cheese curds to start are totally worth the caloric splurge too. Only complaint was that it was pretty loud.
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Charming and Fun
I went to Farmhouse with my husband and we had a very nice time. The ambience is intimate but not overly romantic that it would not be approriate for a group of friends. The cocktail and wine list are limited but very good, the beer list is local and superb. The food is all local and is not outstanding but is very good. Our server and the manager on duty were fabulous, the service here is outstanding. It really is a gem for how welcoming they make you feel.
10/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Really enjoyed the food and flavors that were combined. Will return in the near future.
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
The pork chop was cooked perfect and full flavored, the cheese curds where delicious.

Great Farm to Table dining
Had a great evening at Farmhouse this weekend. Arrived 30 mins. ahead of our reservation and they still seated us right away. Server was attentive and informed. Ambiance was very pleasant although some tables are a little close to each other. There was a large loud group hanging out at the bar who thankfully left before we finished our appetizers. Cheese Curd appetizers with smoky house made ketchup where great. We shared the duck breast, fresh braised brussel sprouts and mac & cheese. All were delicious. Great selection of local brews. At the end of dinner they brought two desserts to the table as an apology for the rowdy group at the bar. Totally unnecessary but appreciated. Overall a very good experience.

Good Food Good Drink
I had the burger, which is always great. It starts simple and you are allowed to build it up as complex as you want. I added a fried egg, bacon, cheddar cheese, and pickles. My wife had the veggie burger, and didn't even realize it wasn't meat, which I take as a great sign. My friend went with the duck, which was simple yet delicious. Along with the great food their beer list is quite good offering a variety of styles of beer sourced 'locally' with indications of their distance from the restaurant. Their cocktail list was not overly impressive, but had a couple interesting options. I also appreciated that the beer list included a couple hard ciders covering the range from sweet to dry.
10/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Food and Service!
Loved everything about the place, would be nice if a little less dark so I can see my food but other than that it was great.

Farmhouse is a foodies tavern
Great farm to table food with a flair. Unusual takes on putting together the ingredients for traditional dishes. And a great selection of craft spirits and wonderful mixology, especially collection of gins. Try Old No. 176 Railroad Gin in a G&T with lemon or a negroni.

Really Good, not quite Great
Very good local beers and drinks. Food is pretty good, although the prices are a little steep for what you get. I really recommend the pork chop currently on their fall menu and the cheese curds as an appetizer. Would go back again in a heartbeat

OUt of Town Fun
Was in Chicago for a conference and found this great farm to table restaurant on a number of websites. There were 6 of us and we had a little of everything. The roasted butternut squash soup was one of the best of its kind I have ever tasted. The fried cheese curds were hot and gooey and yummy. All of our food was very good and the wait staff was excellent, friendly and knowledgeable about their food. We were there at the start of the fall menu. We sat up front at the window table and our only complaint was that it was really noisy and difficult to hear your dinner companions. Other than that, great place, great food, great service.

Great food, great service with knowledgeable wait staff. All local sourced food, beer and whiskeys!!!!

Awesome Dinner, Better Service
Had some really awesome food this past Saturday at Farmhouse. Sam, our waiter, was extremely knowledgeable and made some great recommendations. The food was delicious. I would highly recommend the pig ear dish, the cauliflower soup, and the duck. We will be back soon....
