Great food, esp if spicier
Excellent Ethiopian. The only issue might be that some dishes could come in as a bit mild; we should have asked for something a bit spicier. HIGHLY recommend both the shrimp and the mushroom Tibs; the spinach & rice with chicken infillay was the milder dish that could have used a bit of pumping up.
Wine list is a bit limited, as is the bar; however, this isn't a place where you go to drink (there are lots of other places for that), it's a place for great Ethiopian food.
We'll definitely be back, and will definitely reserve a space.

Great for vegetarians!
Food was delicious. Well seasoned without ring urning hot. Lots of subtle flavored. Had the vegarian sampler, well balanced, plenty to eat.

First time there, the food
First time there, the food was amazing! They did not have a full bar, but the wine was good.

Pleasant, classy dinner spot
This was my first time at an Ethiopian restaurant, and I had a very positive experience with the food and the service. It probably isn't the most authentic place in the city to get Ethiopian food -- it definitely plays up to the Georgetown clientele -- but it was an excellent date night experience and I would love to go back. The food was great and the manager made a point to stop by our table to make sure we knew what all of the dishes were when they arrived.

It is one of the best Ethiopian
It is one of the best Ethiopian restaurants in the area, located in the heart of Georgetown. All the old Zeds fans must know that this is simply a change in name. I have always loved the food and enjoyed dining here since 8 years.
4/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
We had a very good experience
We had a very good experience here. The service was attentive and the ambiance/decor are quite nice - it does feel more formal than the usual Ethiopian restaurant. We shared the shortribs and the vegetarian sampler - a great combination. Excellent espressos.

Das Ethiopian has fantastic
Das Ethiopian has fantastic service, great food, and a classy ambiance. They also take reservations and keep them! I thoroughly enjoyed sitting on their patio on the main street of Georgetown.

We will return to this restaurant
We will return to this restaurant every time we visit DC. It is friendly, interesting, delicious, and fun. What coud be better?

Great Ethiopian cuisine
I went to DAS with a group and we had such a wonderful time. The service was amazing. Very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu which is helpful if its your first time eating Ethiopian cuisine. There were four of us so each of us chose something from the menu. The server advised that it would be served family style which we were excited about. When the platter came to the table it had some items which were great to clean the palate, then the server assembled the platter. This was definitely an amazing meal and cannot wait to return. Very recommendable.
4/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
Very fun place to have dinner.
Very fun place to have dinner. We ordered the sampler platters - one vegetarian and one with meat. It all came as one big platter with foods set on top of a big disk of injera bread (also rolled injera on the side). This is a utensil-free food. All the flavors were delicious. Very fun and very tasty meal. I would visit again.

Server was very attentive
Server was very attentive and helpful - she needed to speak a bit louder, but honestly that was her only "weakness"....food was great, presentation was fantastic and the owner/manager was very pleasant during a brief table visit.

Das Ethiopian is almost always
Das Ethiopian is almost always a stop when I'm in DC. The food is excellent, the ambiance pleasant. Whether you are a returning customer or a first time visitor, the owner greets you warmly and welcomingly. Never tried Ethiopian food? Don't be afraid. You will enjoy great flavors and textures.

If you like Ethiopian food, try Das
Husband and I were out in the city on a Wednesday night. After wandering M Street for a bit, we decided we wanted to be adventurous and try Das. We had a very pleasant evening. From our welcome at the door, to the welcome and goodbye at the table, service was very, very good. Our waitress was helpful with meal selection, too. The wine list is small, but there are few nice choices. The mushroom appetizer was wonderful. We had the meat sampler as our shared entree. We were told it was very spicy, and we said great. While the chicken was spicy, the other meats were less so. They were good, but not super spicy. Restaurant was 2/3 full, but noise level really manageable.
All in all, a really nice find. Recommend!

Welcoming and very good service.
Welcoming and very good service. We enjoyed the experience and would definitely recommend Das Ethiopian.

We travel to Washington every couple of years and this restaurant is always a must. Not until we booked our reservation did we find out that it had changed hands. We were warmly greeted, the staff were friendly and attentive and the food fantastic. It seems that it only got better!
5/3/2013 4:00:00 PM
A new favorite
The portions were excellent and well-priced, and the food itself was incredibly flavorful. I was especially pleased with the little extras like someone brining around extra injera, the side of spices for the kitfo or the wet hand wipes at the end--not found at other Ethiopian restaurants. I will definitely be back!

Worth A Try
This was our first time having Ethiopian food. The staff and food were both amazing. The flavors were full and presentation was beautiful. It was a great experience. If you have never eaten here, you should. We will definetly be return diners on future visits to Georgetown.
5/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
Dinner at Das is Ethiopian at its best, served in the traditional communal way and absolutely delicious. Excellent choice for all, including veggies. The chicken Angor Wat is great, as are all seafood choices. Great location on the east end of Georgetown.

First Exposure to Ethiopian Food
A pleasant first experience. The food was well prepared and tasty. The service was exceptional and accommodating for two young diners.

Lovely atmosphere, excellent food
Went to Das for a meal for 2 on a Sunday night. We shared a combo chicken and beef platter which was superb - really tasty food, and a laid-back atmosphere, and very reasonably priced. Will definitely return next time we're in D.C.
5/25/2013 4:00:00 PM
My first foray into Ethiopian food guarantees I'll look for other opportunities. Wait staff was friendly and reserved but very engaging when we asked for more information about the cuisine. Outdoor seating was comfortable. Georgetown residents love their dogs so watching the passers by was like a Parade of Breeds! The food is eaten with your hands (though utensils were offered). My food was spicy but only one dish I tried would be considered hot. I had a vegetarian sampler plus a salad. The owner dropped by for a quick visit as we were leaving. All in all, a memorable evening with relaxing environs and absolutely delicious food. Can't wait for a return visit to DC to share this with other friends.

Always a great experience
After all these years, Das is still one of my favorite and most recommended restaurants. The food and service are always impeccable.
On to the food!
Appetizers: Shrimp tibbs and the tomato salad.
Mains: Kitfo and Chicken Infalay
Dessert: lemon ice
That's the go-to order and it has worked for years.
6/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
The staff was very attentive and friendly! Food was great - great for out door dining.
6/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food, modern decor
I took out my family to Das Ethiopian for Father's Day. The food was fantastic! Everything was delicious and the server was very patient helping us understand what the different dishes are made of.
I was a little surprised by the modern decor; something I would not have expected. I didn't feel as if I was in an Ethiopian restaurant; I would enjoy something more ethnically accurate.
I was disappointed that none of the desserts were native to Ethiopia, but native to modern America. I would like to have tried something sweet that Ethiopians eat.
6/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Good food, service and atmosphere..
We were referred to this restaurant by an acquaintance who said it was Gluten Free knowledgable and had great food. We were disappointed only by the lack of a GF injera bread, so we had (excellent!) rice to go with the entrees. The food was great, and the service excellent, friendly, and helpful. Wine choices were pretty good also.
6/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great Ethiopian Restaurant
We had a nice table outside and got 3 different dishes. A shrimp, a chicken with spinach and rice, and the steak tartar. All of the dishes were great, and the staff were friendly and always refilling our waters and the injera bread. The food was delicious. I will definitely be returning.
6/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
I went here for my birthday with a group of friends. We all had a fun time! My only complaint was that I was not allowed to have my homemade cake...however, the manager kindly explained that the issue was with DC restaurant laws not allowing us to have it, but she offered to keep the cake in the refrigerator while we ate and then handed it back to us when we left. To make up for it, she also gave me a slice of cake on the house to share with friends. All in all, they were very accommodating and the food was both unique and delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant and will probably be visiting it again!

Tasty Treat with a Good Kick!
We were a table of 4 and got 1 mixed veggie plate and 1 mixed chicken & beef plate, and it was the perfect amount of food. The waitress had suggested we get AT LEAST 3 entrees and I'm so glad we didn't since we still had some leftovers. We didn't order any other appetizers or anything other than water to drink and we were still stuffed. It was a nice ambience, although I would have liked to sit outside had it not been so hot & muggy that day (obviously not the restaurant's fault).
7/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food, excellent service
This was some of the best Ethiopian I've had. Fully flavoured and good variety of dishes. We got the vegetarian sampler for 2 and it was a good amount of food, while giving us the opportunity to try a bit of each dish. I love Ethiopian for many reasons, including the injera and the fact that the dishes have a lot of flavour but aren't overly oily like Indian can sometimes be. This place didn't disappoint.
7/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Fresh and delicious!
I heard great things in online and I was pleased to learn that this is really an awesome place. The food is so fresh and so delicious. The white linen treatment is a nice touch.

A different spin on Ethiopian
I've never been disappointed when going out for Ethiopian, but Das takes the experience up a notch. White tablecloths without being stuffy, and a wine list that goes nicely with the cuisine. The staff was helpful and eager to make sure we enjoyed our visit. Das is a great restaurant for those who know Ethiopian food or who are looking to explore it for the first time. Great for a date, family dinner, or business schmooze.

Great intro to Ethiopian food
Great service, quiet, classy ambiance. Food choices are simple and a good introduction to Ethiopian food. Food is only moderately spicy so ask for spicy if that is your yen. I've eaten in Ethiopian restaurants that may be more "authentic" re. a wider food choice and traditional decor. but if eating over white linen while seated is more to your taste, this is a great place to have a quiet dinner after spending all day on the mall visiting museums, etc. Food is eaten with the hands so a trip to the washroom beforehand is a must! Try the Ethiopian beer as it's a great match to the food.

Nice dining experience,
Had a nice first time experiencing Ethiopian food. Staff was very friendly. Food was tasty, different, but good!

Good food & service
The food & service was very good. Though my favorite appetizer sambusa was not listed on the menu, they served it on request. The honey wine was awesome!

Quiet and Relaxing
This is a gem of a restaurant in the Washington dining scene. It's a very pleasant and attractive dinging room, but a rarity, quiet enough that you can enjoy a conversation with your dining partner. We've been here several times now and the service is consistently strong. And whoever is cooking does a great job - we always get the vegetarian sampler and add a meat dish in. The short ribs are wonderful as are the beef tibs. Excellent coffee.

i'm a big fan of DAS - very clean, nice & attentive staff and great ethiopian food relative to other ethiopian restaurants in DC. my favorite dish is the beef gored gored. try it raw. the chicken infillay is great as well.

Perfect Date Night
My girlfriend and I had a terrific time here. The food was really delicious, and paired surprisingly well with the bottle of Proseco we ordered. There are no utensils! You pick up bites of food with the spongy crepe-like injera. Makes for a really fun dining experience!
For the quality of the food, service and ambiance, I think the prices were very reasonable.

Great service but a bit pricey
Having recently moved from Chicago where I had a favorite Ethiopian restaurant, I was looking for good Ethiopian place in DC. The service at the place was beyond my expectations. The food was good but a bit pricey.
9/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Delicious, romantic, great service
Das is overall more fancy than Dukem (U street), which is were I have in the past gotten my Ethiopian food "fix". Both have delicious Ethiopian food (I always get the veg and meat sampler to split with hubby). Injera bountifully provided. Service very friendly, very fast, politely accommodating. Handiwipes provided (because traditionally this food you eat with your hands). Decorated very beautifully and romantically. It's in a very pretty area, Georgetown's M street. Great intimate date place or a place to bring out of town guests. The owner/manager came around after dinner to make sure we were pleased. A+
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was our third time here (we live out of state) and our whole family craves Ethiopian food anytime we are down in Maryland/D.C.
To the best of my knowledge, this is one of the only white table cloth Ethiopian restaurants. Food is consistently good and we all crave the Injera (bread). The beers were excellent too. In a world of too many "me too" restaurants this one is truly unique and very reasonably priced.

Good Ethiopian Food/Nice Atmosphere
The reviews I read for Das were very mixed so I was a bit nervous when I chose it for lunch to celebrate a friend's birthday. However, she wanted to eat Ethiopian and since it was her birthday I wanted something a bit more upscale than the usual Ethiopian restaurants. Das ended up being perfect for this occasion. The atmosphere is very nice and the restaurant is perfectly situated on the edge of Georgetown (you don't have to fight the crowds if you don't want to). We had excellent service as well. The food is good, not amazing, but good. We had the vegetarian sampler and the meat sampler; it was a good way to try several items on the menu. We liked everything we had. They also have interesting house specials.

Dinner with Friends
Great food and time w/friends. Little pricy for us but would recommend it to others. Would only come again upon request.
10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
I choose this for my birthday group and it was fantastic. I love the veggies, meats and spices.
10/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Wonderful lunch in the heart of Georgetown. Clean and welcoming restaurant centrally located. The food was delicious although I would recommend having the appetizers and entrees come out at the same time. You use a spongy bread to dip and grab, so you can easily fill up on just the appetizers. Have the full selection in front of you. We ordered beef and shrimp appetizers and a vegetable assortment as the main meal (lentils, green beans, chick peas, eggplant etc.. cooked in delicious spices). Parking was not readily available, so allow 15 minutes for the search. The server was also very lovely and helpful. I highly recommend Das for a unique lunch experience. May I also mention that all this was also very affordable?.. $60 including tip!!!
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Ethiopian at its best
We have not been back to DC since Zeds closed at this site. Das Ethiopian is also a gem of a restaurant, and picks right up for us where Zeds left off. The food, service, and ambience are all outstanding. The dining room is very romantic and peaceful. All the staff are concerned about diners having a wonderful experience.

Experience Ethiopian Food
I went here with my brother while he visited DC. It was a great choice. We were seated promptly and our waitress was very attentive and helpful. Our food was delicious. I ordered the sampler platter and he ordered a dish with chicken, spinach, and rice, but everything is served family style, so we both ended up sharing anyways. The restaurant looks like a house, with tables set up in the front room. Very personal, quiet, and elegant feeling. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for a party with children, because there are no utensils. The food is picked up and eaten with flat pieces of bread, which was very fun but also messy. This was my first time trying Ethiopian food, so I have no idea how "authentic" it was, but I had a great time.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
One of our favorite restaurants.
One of our favorite restaurants. Very quiet and pleasant dining room - unlike so many in D.C. with blaring background noise. Service is always efficient and warm. We enjoy the food very much - the vegetarian sampler along with a new meat choice each time. And the coffee is always superb. Nothing to complain about.

fun spot in Georgetown
Had a great meal with the family. Food served family style. We all dug in and enjoyed! Menu was a little confusing, but manager kindly explained what we needed to know. Very willing to accommodate my 11 year old's need for mild spices. Upstairs looked much quieter.

Excellent Every Time
This was our 3rd visit to Das Ethiopian for dinner, and it was as fantastic as it was the first 2 times. Great, reasonably priced food, warm atmosphere, and the service is excellent...we highly recommend Das!
