A corner of Paris, in Portland
A cozy space evocative of neighborhood restaurants we've experienced in Paris, with truly outstanding, deliciously authentic French food. The lobster bisque is perfect, with a deep, richly developed flavor that can only come from love, time and masterful technique - a real treat. If the cassoulet or lamb shank is on the specials menu, they are not to be missed! (I keep dreaming of that cassoulet, and only wish I'd gotten an extra serving to take home for later!)

Check this place out if you haven't
We had a wonderful meal at Le Bouchon for my wife's birthday. The waiter was funny, and very attentive. We had a wonderful time. The food was very authentic French cuisine. Would recommend to anyone.

The food an service were well
The food an service were well above average. I am still searching for the perfectly cooked steak, but your's was quite good. The suggested red wine complimented it quite well.

Very traditional French and very very good. The best escargot I have had in years, understated, excellent. Wonderful salads. The fish and chicken dishes we had were flavorful and very well prepared and presented. We enjoyed this restaurant and can recommend it without reservation.

It was a special dinner!
After swilling wine all day in Carlton we settled into our hotel in Portland and hoofed it to the restaurant. We were hesitant to order more wine after drinking red wine all day long so our waiter brought every white wine on the menu so we could taste one that would not put additional stress on our stomachs. Very Cool! We eat out regularly, but this was our first time here and I was the only one of us that had ordered in a French restaurant so we both had a ton of questions that were handled patiently. I ordered the sauteed Chicken Breast and she ordered the shrimp in the most wonderful fish sauce ever! We had great conversation with the staff and tables around us, it was a wonderful atomosphere facilitated by great food and staff!

Have been there twice in the past few weeks and will probably become regulars. Extensive selection of French appetizers and entrees from the standard menu and a daily chalkboard of specials provide endless variety. Can recommend the escargot, lobster bisque, onion soup, mushroom soup, mussels, bouillabaisse, beef tenders, sweetbreads, and more. French wine list has reasonable prices for the Pearl. Food prices are also reasonable. Intimate atmosphere. Casual. Service is sincere and helpful, though one should be patient on busy nights.

Still Cooking After All These Years
I think I first ate at Le Bouchon in the 1990s. Unlike many restaurants, it has maintained its standards over the year and still delivers solid French bistro fare. The salmon fume and salad romaine au citrus were both quite good starters and easy to share. Our mains of steak and salmon were also good. It was a very busy night and this was the only place I could get last minute reservations but it was a good reminder that Le Bouchon needs to be back on my go to list.

Traditional French Cooking
Very pleasant experience for those who like treaditional cuisine. Has a limited but very nice wine list. Friendly waiter who handled the entire restaurant with aplomb.

A little bit of France
We have been going to Le Bouchon for years and keep going back. It is a small bistro reminiscent of the small bistros you find everywhere in Paris. While the food is not new or trendy it is delicious. We always go away satisfied. We'll be back. We try out many restaurants in Portland and this one always stays on our list. A favorite for an intimate gathering.

excellent food and service
Le Bouchon continues to serve up outstanding food. This was the seventh or eight time I have dinned there over the past few years and they continue to produce first rate French fare at very reasonable prices. The food is not pretentious but hearty excellent French food that you would get in a small neighborhood French restaurant in the heart of Paris or in a small town in the country side. The menu has not changed in a long time but does not need to as the 5 or 6 nightly specials are always a pleasant surprise. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

what i don't know
We had a delicious meal at Le Bouchon. The wine was perfect, and the bouillabaisse was yummy. Everyone at the table agreed on the food and the service being excellent. What I don't know, as it was my first time eating at the restaurant, is if in winter, it has a cozy feel to it. The ambience was very cafe-like but not as romantic and intimate as I would have hoped for. That said, we will return in winter for the lamb shank!!

Great French Bistro
The food here is wonderful. This small restaurant can be run easily by three people and is. The chef/owner has been there a long time and quality is high. Eat the specials although the regular menu is great too. The last two times I have been here I have eaten snails with garlic butter - wonderful. Today it was also garlic lamb chops, also great!. She had the fish special, Red Snapper, also fantastic. Highly recommended.

Classic Country Culinary artistry
Like the local neighborhood café, Le Bouchon serves up an extraordinary meal at very reasonable prices. From the traditional French onion soup to the L'onion Biftec, the food was at the very highest level. Prepared with the quality and care you would expect from a marquee named restaurant, Le Bouchon does not disappoint. Our summer experience was what you would expect from a summer café in Monemarte or Troyes. Warm, sensual and evocative of great sounds and smells of the country. Expect a bit of a wait for your food. But...the wait is worth it.

Good find in Portland
Nice little French bistro. We'll put it on our list of 'places to go again' in Portland.

Very neighborhood French like
Felt like I had stepped back in a French neighborhood bistro. Service great and very friendly. We had only a limited time for dining, but the staff and cook did great. Each main course was done very well. Only the salads seemed average or else I would have rated the food 5 star.

Great Portland find!
We only had one night in Portland and were craving French food, and were delighted we found Le Bouchon. The food was amazing, the wine list a pleasant surprise, and the service phenomenal. At the suggestion of other reviewers, we left room for chocolate mousse and were not disappointed. Special kudos for the service--our server noticed that we were checking maps at the end of our meal, and she kindly grabbed her cell phone and looked up the bus schedule and gave directions to the bus stop from the restaurant. I felt like we came as strangers and left as friends.

Food as Art.
I have eaten here many times over the years. It is real French food in a real French bistro. The Chef is an artist doing what he loves and we all benefit. Every meal I have ever tasted here has been exquisite. The onion soup and cheese cake cannot be outdone.

Taste of France
We enjoyed our date night here! Very romantic and great service. I think the food was a little overpriced for what you got but it was delicious.

We were under a time constraint as we were attending a concert after our meal. We informed the server..... she spoke with the kitchen .... we were out in time. We had the chicken dish and the fish special. Both dishes were extremely well prepared. Don't forget to order a soufflé 24 hours prior to your reservation. It's one of the best we've had.
