good times great food
Great food & atmosphere good service, friendly staff. The main course proportions are generous. My husband & I took another couple there with us from out of town. We've dined there before & loved it. Definitely recommend sharing a few appetizers which are tasty;the fried spearing with urnes sauce Girice sa urnebes sosom, Lepinja sa kajmakom a traditional bread served warm with a creamy cheese spread are wonderful. We had the lamb chop, whole fish, pork chops and bean stew with baby back ribs. All were seasoned nicely, presented and cooked perfectly. We've had a few other things on the menu before they've all been very good. Fun with friends or a comfy spot for couples. great spot for dining during the week.

OMG was that a great find!!! The
OMG was that a great find!!!
The place was not very big and we (thankfully) did make reservations because almost all tables were called for.
The service was great - very friendly and authentic people that were very approachable.
The food was out of this world good! I have never had Serbian but my husband has and we were knocked off our socks by the flavors presented. I had the sliced pork neck - which is now my favorite part of "bacon" and he had the spicy pork sausage on a bed of beans. THAT sausage was amazing and what dreams are made of. SO succulent and multidimensional flavors in a great package it was out of this world.

Could be a small town in Eastern
Could be a small town in Eastern or Central Europe. (It's Serbian) I've had most of the dishes there and they're all excellent. Good ingredients, simply prepared. My favorite is the beans with spicy pork sausage.

Authentic, tasty ex-YU food
When my Serbian grandma visits and says that the food is "good," you know the restaurant is a winner! I would recommend going there on Fridays if you're up for a good time with live Balkan music and singing and dancing people. If you're going on a date, pick another day! It's actually the perfect place for a romantic date: dimmed lights, cozy traditional feel, intimate, with a great winelist and exceptional food. If you eat meat, order the meat platter with a šopska salata on the side. If you're a vegetarian, try the gibanica (cheese or spinach pie) with a salad on the side or if you're pescatarian, have the grilled fish of the day with blitva! Who am I kidding! JUST GO, you won't regret it :)

Great food from the Balkans
A simple, friendly place that serves food that is quite original and flavourful. We had brunch there and enjoyed walking in the neighbourhood. Great place to relax and discover new tastes and new dishes. The beans served with the hotter sausage are excellent.

Great birthday dinner!
Really like Kafana and had my birthday dinner there last Saturday. They were very accommodating with changing guest numbers and the food was very tasty, especially the delicious tomatoes! A very friendly place with a great atmosphere. I'm sure I'll be back and am hoping to catch some live music next time!

East Village Highlight
This place has a great little alfresco patio and a good selection of imported wine and beer. The coastal region of Croatia is known for their sheep cheese and this place had the best I've had in the U.S. I'll definitely go again next time I'm in NYC.

Tasty and hearty Swebian food.
It's a good deal for the price. Note: no credit cards.

Amazing atmosphere and food
I was absolutely blown away, place is truly authentic Serbian restaurant down to the tables and chairs. Food selection is amazing and the quality and taste are even better. Staff is really friendly and on the point. I would move to NYC just so I could go to the Kafana every single day. I will definitely visit every time I am in NYC!!!

Balkan Vacation in East Village
We are a bunch who likes Turkish food and wanted to branch out . There were similarities but what made our meal memorable were the differences. Great Salad , grilles , sausages, and cheese spread bread and meat filled stuffed pepper. We are all foodies and the menu was great for sharing and the portions large. The food was somewhat different since none of us had experienced food directly from Serbia . We loved it . Everything about it . Would go back again.
It was casual . Eight of us of mixed adult ages and generations . We had an intimate dining experience, with great service and the place was cute and the location good .
I would recommend . It was a fun evening and made a great Birthday surprise .

Four of us had a most charming lunch on a saturday. The brick walls and old photographs instantly set the mood however it was the service that completely won us over from the start. We had just about everything on the menu from the sopska salad to the cevap and it all was delicious. Don't forget to start with the slivovic (plum brandy) and end with the palacinke (chocolate filled crepes).

Not the first time here. Love
Not the first time here. Love the warm, authentic decor ... just like being in Belgrade cafe. Friendly and welcoming staff. Our table of four tried many different menu items; all well-prepared, fresh and delicious. Great wine and beer. Great experience, again.

A wonderful find in the east village. Having grown up as a American "Yugoslavian", it's been difficult throughout my extensive travels to find quality ethnic restaurants from my heritage. Very friendly, jovial atmosphere, and great food. I recommend everyone experience what the restaurant has to offer.

Really good food and cozy place
The food is very good, autentic and the
portions are huge.
My first try on serbian food and I really
liked it. (and my serbian company felt as
home) The restaurant is cozy and has a
friendly atmosphere. We also tried serbian
wine wich was fun to try. I strongly
recommend this restaurant.
