2d time there, a good as the 1st
Country charm, organic menu, great salad, in the heart of horse country, unique find and experience. Serving real food not your average fare at reasonable prices. Outside dining on the terrace.

Love this Tavern!
This is our second trip to Hunter's Head. We love the drive out to Upperville and the atmosphere at Hunter's Head is so relaxing. The patio dining is comfortable and the menu is well rounded. This is a truly enjoyable spot.

Wonderful little find. For us the drive in the country to get here is part of the wonderful experience. The experience is to resemble that of an English restaurant. Well done. Food is very good, staff extremely polite, choices bountiful, Organic and local choices, full menu. Portion sizes for me could be a little bigger. I will go back again.

love this place!
I have eaten at Hunters Head several times, and each time the food is great and the service is friendly and fast! The outdoor seating on the patio is wonderful in the spring and fall. Highly recommend this great pub!

Wonderful Sunday Brunch
My husband and I frequent vistors to the Hunters Head, but this was the first time for friend from Georgetown - one of which is from London. All enjoyed the outdoor dining and the amazing food. The Londoner was happy to find an ice cold shandy on the menu. Great day - we're already planning a return visit.

We had never been to Hunter's Head Tavern and decided to go for our anniverssary. It is unique in that you go inside, get a menu, sit down, decide what you want and then go back to the bar to order. Once we ordered we went onto the patio to wait but a server never appeared. The person who brought out the food , in a short time I might add, was again, not our server but the GM, who was very nice. During the meal no one asked how the food was or if we needed more to drink. At the end of the meal we flagged the GM down again to order desert, telling him we had no server. Our server appeared with desert and the GM very kindly paid for the dessert because of the lack of service.

Little Bit of Britain in VA
You round the bend, and you see the Tavern/Pub. Looks like you have just driven onto the set of Midsomer Murder! Parking is convenient and ample; the entrance quaint and charming. The staff was extraordinarily friendly and knowledgeable. You walk in and order drinks at the bar until your table is ready. My wife and I had the wonderfully cheesy artichoke dip to start. My wife had the Wedge Salad with Steak (perfectly done to a medium rare), and I had the Shepherd's Pie, We ended our feast with a hand-crafted blueberry pie a la mode. Had a great evening. Can't wait to get back! Would definitely recommend as a place to go (even if you have to drive 45 minutes to Upperville!

Worth the Drive
Hunter's Head Tavern is a delightul English style pub offering comfort food along with some more sophisticated fare,. We ate in the courtyard and loved the ambiance. We intend to return.....even although it is 25 miles from home.

The hostess immediately made us feel welcome and at home. The ambiance, which is colonial tavern (with an outdoor patio as well) is pleasant and uncrowded. While billed as a pub, the food is at the very upper limit of pub food. All of our dishes were delicious and nicely presented. The ordering system - you place your initial order at a window next to the bar - might have been a problem had I not read reviews and been prepared to expect it. The upside was that the person at the window was very friendly and efficient, and had a good grasp of the beer and wine selection as well. Our order came out very quickly so perhaps the system has its merits. One suggestion - put a local Virginia beer on draft.. We will be back.

Great casual dining
Varied menu, interesting range of choices, along with great service , and a lovely space for outdoor dining makes this a great casual dining experience.

Authentic British Pub
An authentic British pub in the middle of no where Virginia? Yup. The food is really good. They get some of their ingredients from their own farm that is near by. The menu lets you know if it is from their own farm. The liver an onions are great! So is dessert. It is worth a trip to check them out. Be sure to make reservations. They can get quite busy.

Everything about the Hunter's Head is great - you will never get a bad meal and the staff is fabulous.

The Hunter's Head is an institution
For those who live in Virginia "Horse and Wine Country," the Hunter's Head is an institution. Serving a combination of organic and gourmet meals in a pub atmosphere, the restaurant is a must visit. Once a newcomer gets past the spoon ordering system (you'll understand once you've done it), the atmosphere is comfortable and the staff is great.

A great British Pub
If someone wants a dining experience with ambience, uniqueness and character, the Hunter's Head Tavern is the place to go. All of the food is good, some is excellent. One does not just enjoy dining at Hunter's Head, one experiences it. A place to take out of town guests, meet good friends for lunch or just enjoy a special treat during a relaxing day trip to Middleburg.
8/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
Lovely courtyard; good food
The Hunter's Head is my favorite restaurant in the summer when I and my guests can dine casually but well in the lovely courtyard of the old white house in tiny, pretty Upperville. They have a good wine list, including selections from nearby wineries. I love the English type food, and great desserts.

Birthday in the Country
Great time out in Loudoun County VA for a special birthday dinner with family. Love the authentic old virginia horse country decor and the historic house itself is full of character. Eat outside in the garden on a nice day. Order your meal at the bar in English pub style and they deliver to your table. Self seating. Classic English menu items with Virginia flair. A special treat for any occasion. Highly recommend

Step above your basic pub
All your pub favorites stepped up a notch in a relaxed historic setting. Food was great, all fresh ingredients and it just tasted better! Very comfortable outdoor seating area (plus tables inside) fast friendly service. Just like in the UK you order your food at the bar and they deliver to your table. Fun night, good food, good crowd.

Friends brought my husband and I to Hunter's Head and we so enjoyed it. I thought of my sister who so loves farm to table and is so encouraged that more restaurants are doing this. We had a reunion this week and I drove them to Hunter's Head where the drive and ambiance of the area was so enjoyed and a bonus was the enjoyment of the food. I will be back.

Hunter's Head Tavern
If you want a bit of England, head out through the beautiful rolling countryside of Loudoun's horse country to an old coaching inn in Upperville, VA. The food was great and the pub atmosphere met and exceeded our expectations.

Wonderful, authentic country inn. Well worth the drive! Excellent service.

Idyllic Setting - and Food to Match
Lunch on the terrace, in dappled shade, with smiling efficient service, began with bread - warm, crusty on the outside, chewy perfection inside, and delicious butter. Just bread and butter... but WHAT bread and butter! We knew from that first taste that we were going to have a great meal. My husband ordered a pork sandwich, layered with caramelized onions, and I chose the beef pasty - better than the one I had in Bath recently! Rich chocolate cake and authentic sticky toffee pudding smothered in toffee and warm custard sauces were a perfect finale. Every bite was wonderful, and we can't wait to return with friends!

ENGLISH pub w/ traditional food!!
we were lucky to sit outside on a perfect september evening. the outside seating area is just lovely. Inside is also fantastic, even if you are seated upstairs. the restaurant is so quaint and authentic. Loved the food, and martinis.... our whole party is definitely returning soon.

Hunter's Head - An English Treat
The Hunter's Head Tavern is an absolute treat. Located in historic Upperville along Route 50 in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley hunt country, the Pub styled restaurant offers a broad selection of dishes both from the Pub menu and the more extensive restaurant bill of fare. Associated with Ayrshire Farm, Hunter's Head offers a number of organic dishes and even the animals that give their all for one's dining pleasure are humanely raised. The bar is small bit a treat where many locals congregate. And the homemade desserts are not to be missed.

As Good as it Gets!
My wife and I have loved this place for years. We typically go on Friday evenings as a way to unwind from a hectic week. The drive from routes 15 and 50 to Upperville is nothing short of spectacular. The British pub like ambience is truly charming. We have tried many items on the menu and have never been disappointed. Our favorites include the shepard's pie, bangers and mash, chicken fried steak, and the Guiness stew. The staff is always friendly and efficient. Great food, great location, and great service. This is as good as it gets!
9/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
We spent a nice evening dining at Hunter's Head Tavern. Everything worked out very well.
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
love the Upperville area
just relax and eat good food in a great ambience. this is the first time we were offered a menu at the table by a server, this is
a real plus because ordering at the counter can be hellish with the long line at lunch.

Great Tavern !
We always enjoy and have never been dissapointed at Hunter's Head. The English fare is fun to sample :) The ordering system with the spoons adds a bit of fun to the evening. The staff are always pleasant and helpful -- sepecially when asking about some of the less well know dishes. I am a volleyball official and I arrange at least one match out Middleburg way, just so I can take my wife to Hunter's Head after the match. We have recommended it to others and often taken friend there.

Wonderful English Pub Food. Loved that dogs were allowed to be with patrons on the outdoor patio. We celebrated our anniversary with friends there on Saturday night and it was lovely. Warm weather allowed us to be outside. Worth the drive from the City.

As always Hunter's Head was
As always Hunter's Head was great. It met a huge need for us to take an unexpected guest couple from out of town to a unique place with wonderful service and very good food selection.
10/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were celebrating 2 birthdays and the highlight of the evening while sitting outside was having Robert Duvall sitting next to us. As usually the food is very good, especiially the warm bread and butter.
The fish and chips and shepard's pie and bangers and mash are one of the best around.
10/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
Always a Pleasure
Although the weather outside was lousy, pouring down rain, the food, fireplace and staff made dining a pleasure, as always! Outdoor dining is lovely and dog-friendly too! I get the macaroni and cheese, it cannot be beat! And that bread and butter they bring out prior is to die for.
We always enjoy a trip to Hunter's Head!
10/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
We really enjoyed Hunter's
We really enjoyed Hunter's Head Tavern, traveling more than 70 miles each time just to enjoy the food, the atmosphere and the ability to dine in a rustic atmosphere. It is always great in the service always spectacular.

just a terrific old charming pub/restaurant that takes one back a century or two, great atmosphere, fabulous service...a wonderful getaway where we continue to go time and time again. it never gets old.

A MUST place to eat
I almost hate to post this b/c my hubby and I like to think it is a secret. We don't want too many people going out to Upperville to eat..then it will be hard to get a table! This place rocks! We have been going for years and have NEVER had a bad meal or service. Everything is great, though I love to get the chicken pot pie! My husbands stew was to die for. Watching your carbs? Don't! Get the bread and fresh butter. OMG! That could be the last place I eat and I would die happy. Desserts never fail to please either. Good wine and beer make HH a great place to go on a date. For the kids...the Mac and Cheese will spoil the kids-forever! LOVE the wait staff. Always helpful and very pleasant.

Food not as good as usual
This restaurant is a favorite of mine and my husband's. We often take a motorcycle ride out Route 50 (very scenic) and have lunch here. I brought a cousin & my Mom out for lunch. The place was beautiful as always, the service was very friendly and quick. However, the food was not as good as usual. My daughter had the fish and chips and the fish was bland and both the fries and fish had a burned taste even though they didn't look burned. Our waitress offered to get her something else, so we got her the Mac & cheese which was very very good. I had the shepard's pie and while good, it wasn't great. My Mom really liked her clam chowder and my cousin loved the Mac & Cheese & french dip sandwich.
10/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Thanks Ayrshire Farm for providing a one-of-a-kind dining experience - organic, non-GMO, fresh local foods. We love this restaurant!
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Old world ambiance & real food
A wonderful place for old world ambiance with the best food & beer. Very few places have food with such vibrant flavor. Not over spiced or complicated. Beef that tastes like beef & liver that tastes like liver . . . & good beer to go with it.
10/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were there for lunch with a group of 6 women and a baby. They gave us an entire room upstairs! They helped us carry the stroller upstairs (and back down) when we were finished. Normally you order at the bar, but the waitstaff came to us with menus and took our order from the table. They made numerous trips up and down the stairs to get us everything we requested. They checked in with us frequently and took great care of us. We were very impressed and had a lovely time! It's our favorite spot to each lunch before going to Delaplane Cellars and Cobbler Mountain for wine tasting. Every time we eat here, we love it!

Great food and a nice drive on a Sunday November day

Good food and a little history
We love Hunter's Head Tavern. Many of the ingredients are sourced locally. The Pub Fare is our favorite part of the menu. You will feel like you are stepping back in time into a British Pub when you walk in here.
11/2/2013 5:00:00 PM
Not your run of the mill restaurant
And that is what I like about it. The menu is varied. The food is good and local. The prices are appropriate. It is a nice place to take out of town visitors.
11/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
Like in England
I always feelike I'm back in the old country. The food comes from local farms. Great size portions. Quick service. Friendly staff. Good-sized menu to choose from. I've had the bangers & mash, the quiche, liver & onions, ale stew, sticky toffee pudding - all are wonderful!
11/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great, healthy, delicious food. Ambiance plus. We take all of our friends to Hunter's Head to show off our wonderful Loudoun County.

Hunters Head Tavern
If you're a Brit, this is about as close as you can get to the old pub experience apart from the landlord chucking out unruly punters! It is 80% restaurant and 20% bar, mind you. The food is superbly matched to the surroundings: home-made and fresh. The tavern is about 300 years old which for the US, is quite a rare find. It looks as if it has been lifted from East Anglia, or several other English, Scottish or Welsh locales, and deposited on rte 50 in Upperville. The staff are efficient and friendly without being over-bearing. I highly recommend Hunters Head for any occasion. The drive to it is also worth it!.

Good experience .
Brought my spouse in for a birthday . Enjoyed it very much . For dinner .

Great place for a date
Took the girl here, and it was an excellent choice. Superb sort of place to take a woman.
11/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
The food and service were excellent, and we liked the extensive menu, divided among different sized plates. The only drawback was the noise level. It's tiresome to have a group of friends gathered around the table, straining to hear and make themselves heard. There are no quiet corners.
11/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
Fun destination dining
We enjoy Hunter's Head Tavern as a destination when we're out for a drive in the country or a pleasant stop on our way from Fairfax County to Winchester. The English pub fare is authentic & tasty, and there are also burgers and other choices for lunch.
