Your next hot spot
Fantastic meal. Such a talented chef who is also extremely personable. I have enjoyed every experience dining at sushi kappo tamura and will continue to frequent the restaurant. Fresh fish, quality sake, knowledgeable staff, comfortable dining room. Love it!

We chose the tasting menu. While the sushi was merely good, all the other dishes were exquisite. The duck was melt-in-your mouth and the dessert brilliantly citrusy.
Our server was poorly informed and indifferent. When we asked her about the omakase menu, she gave a non-answer and shrugged. She plopped each course down on the table with a one or two word name and disappeared. after a lengthy discussion regarding beverages, she forgot to bring it until we inquired near the end of our meal. I asked for more tea to go with the dessert course and she never came back, except to deliver the check.
But if your are looking for a splendid Japanese food experience, sushi kappa tambura delivers.

While the atmosphere is minimalist and the restaurant has no view, the service was very good and the food was outstanding. My friends enjoyed the sashimi while I savored the black cod, which was buttery tender and delicious.

Best sushi ever
We have been to Kappo Tamura many times and have yet to find a selection that we did not find ourselves raving about on the trip home.

Oft missed gem
Took my family out for a special occasion. We had been here before so knew the food was good. Had a variety of things: the duck breast, assorted tempura, chawan mushi, oysters on the half-shell. Most memorable for me was the braised wagyu beef shoulder. It might not be the biggest menu but they definitely do everything really well, the only downside is its definitely on the expensive side so if you're prepared to splurge, this is definitely a place to try.

What a wonderful presentation for Mother's Day. It was delicious and beautiful. Count me in for the next special occasion meal.

I do not go to japanese restaurants very often due to so many disappointments in Seattle area. Then my friend took me to Sushi Kappo Tamura the other day. OMG! I am so happy to discover this one. So I wanted to share the happy experience with my friends who love good food. 4 of us went for their mother's day, special Kaiseki set. Wonderful food, we did not leave one single grain of rice on the dish!

Wonderful Mother's day experience
Visited for dinner on Mother's day. Service was excellent, and the food was fantastic. After having read several reviews which recommended omakase (chef's choice), but only seeing it as a footnote in the menu, I had to ask about it. I found out it is 7 courses and $100 per diner. A little beyond our reach. We went for the "tasting menu" instead, which was still 5 courses and more than enough food. The mustard greens and albacore with almond wasabe sauce was a fantastic opener, the duck was wonderfully tasty, and the sushi exquisite. The honey quince yogurt panna cotta at the end was just divine. Overall, not the sort of experience we can afford often, but worth it for a special occasion.

Best Sushi in Seattle
The ONLY thing lacking here was speedy service. If your willing deal with the slightly slow service you are in for a treat! The sushi was outstanding. The most tender and flavorful fish in the area that has obviously been cared to with the utmost detail. The rice was perfect, they use only a hint of vinegar which attracts all of your attention to the supremely delightful fish.

Good not great
Some have placed this sushi restaurant at the top but we would not.
The service was slow and the sushi, although quite good, was short of remarkable.
The pricing was reasonable.

We enjoyed a wonderful meal
We enjoyed a wonderful meal at the sushi bar, fresh & delicious nigiri and rolls, nice Miso soup. Chef Taichi took great care of us, he is clearly a master sushi chef. I enjoyed watching him prepare omakase for guests seated next to us. I want to come back and try that sometime. The ambiance was pleasant, blond wood & soft lighting. The only negative was the ladies room. Since it was a one person room I was surprised that the hostess came out before me, leaving it in less than acceptable condition before returning to her spot at the front. We enjoyed our experience, but I didn't leave feeling like it was better than our usually frequented sushi restaurants in Seattle. I am not sure how soon we will come back, but I am glad we tried it.

Fresher than fresh
You're not going to get sushi that tastes this fresh anywhere else--or as delicious. It's one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle hands down. Food, ambience, service, everything is spot on just like the live spot prawns, ha ha, dumb joke.

Unbelievably creative and delicious, extremely fresh seafood and local produce, some from their own roof. Knowing, gentle staff and good sake selection.

One of our favorite spots.
One of our favorite spots. The food and service is always good. This dinner held up to our past experiences. We were very happy to learn that they are now open for brunch on weekends.

Best place for Omakase
Paired with the finest sake, each dish was absolutely delicious!
Our service was also very gracious and attentive which made the experience all the more memorable.

I loved everything I ordered. Great place for high end sushi!

Great place from a great chef!
The chef who started other places like Chiso also started Tamura. As usual, he delivers. A must try!
7/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
...as always. Took an east coast friend here for sushi. Great fish again. WA & AK on the menu. Yum.
7/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Everything was outstanding. The black sea bass was amazing and the sushi melted in your mouth. The Mustard greens and Washington Albacore tuna dressed with an almond wasabi sauce was also outstanding. The only item that was not to our liking were the local spot prawns. They were a bit mushy and overdone.
8/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Some of the best sushi I have ever tasted. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. We will be back soon.
8/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Uni was the best. Standards like black cod and vegetable tempura as starters were very good. The oysters were tasty and well presented. I will ask for six without the sauce and six with next time. Rolls were innovative but within expectations. Sapporo on tap was good. The herring was fresh and good. The experience was good enough to bring me back within a month.

epic sushi experience
after recently being verbally abused by the hideous owner chef over at mashiko's in west seattle, and otherwise being subjected to the mediocrity of the broader seattle sushi scene - i had nearly sworn off sushi entirely. but i finally decided to check out Sushi Kappo Tamura on the advice of friends whose tastes i greatly respect. it's easily the best decision i have made all year. this place is outstanding. i ordered the omakase and there wasn't even one dish that didn't blow my mind. however, if you're looking for sushi on a budget then this place isn't likely a good fit. you're going to drop some serious cash on the omakase but it was beyond worth it.
do yourself a favor and check out this place immediately!

Awesome Japanese brunch
I had the Hiru Gozen and it was the best brunch I had so far in a Japanese Restaurant here in Seattle. Looking forward to trying the rest of the brunch menu.

Very fresh seasonal (Copper River salmon) sushi with tasty small plates, including mustard greens with albacore.

Operation Dinner Out
Kappo is an amazing place to eat. They do a great job of staying on top of everything from the time you enter until you leave.

Leave it to the chef
After seven amazing and very interesting courses I left happy and relieved that I had picked the right spot for my business dinner. Will be back.
8/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
The quality and freshness of their seafood is the best In town. My favorite spot in Seattle for sushi!
8/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great sushi and food overall
If you are looking for a place to have great sushi, sashimi and overall amazing Japanese food, this is the place to go. Do the omakase and be amazed at what comes out next.
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
We went primarily for the Sushi and were not disappointed, everything was excellent. If you are a fan try the Unagi, they grill it themselves and it was fantastic. We tried a couple other menu items and loved them all, this is a great place.
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Best sushi in town
This is my favorite in Seattle. The mojito is amazing. I can't help but order two. The fish melts in your mouth it is so fresh. Love that you can get locally caught fish. Staff is very helpful and knowledgable. I can't say enough about how wonderful this place is!!
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
The one and only
The best sushi place in the city. Nothing compares to the quality of the seafood and the presentation. I absolutely love this restaurant.
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Fabulous, as always!
TaiChi is an outstanding sushi chef in every way. The sushi is always super fresh and excellently prepared. And he is a smililng and charming presence at the sushi bar, willing to explain each dish and prepare special treats for you. The cooked food is also great.
His partner, Steve, runs the restaurant smoothly and has developed some very interesting sake flights.
The restaurant is consistently excellent. It is one of the very best restaurants in Seattle!
9/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good quality fish
The price is a bit higher than other restaurants, but the Sashimi was really fresh and definitely the place to go to if you like raw food.
The cooked food in comparison could be improved. For example, the red snapper cheek and it was a bit overcooked, and the steamed spot prawn as well.
Had the Omakase (8 courses - $100/person) - and a bunch of sashimi on the side. (which is why the above two items you won't find on the menu) - was hoping that with the special menu.
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very good - enjoyable experience
Rated the best sushi place on a local magazine for a couple years now, I finally ventured to SKT. The four of us ordered almost everything on the Ippins, a few rolls (non) vegetarian, some nigiri and some sashimi. While its not peak optimal season for fresh seafood during this time, the Salmon toro and other sashimi were distinctively fresh.
My favorite Ippins was the black cod, goeduck and wagyu beef. Even the ingredients in the rolls taste fresh and distinctive, compared to stale taste in rolls in most sushi place. SKT style of flavors are very subtle and letting the ingredients speak for themselves than overpowering it with too much seasonings. Even the simple mixed green salad with its simplistic miso dressing was extraordinary.

Best Japanese restaurant in Seattle
I will follow the chef wherever he goes! Delicate dishes and how food should be portioned. Tempura was perfect; light and crispy. Next time I am going the omakase route.
9/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good as advertised
It was yummy sushi, some really interesting flavor combinations. We really enjoyed our dinner experience
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Our experience was outstanding. Excellent service and even better sushi. I had the best salmon I have ever had in a sushi restaurant.

Amazing Sushi in Eastlake
Sushi Kappo Tamura is a great location if you consider yourself a sushi snob! Parking is all street out and about the Eastlake neighborhood but that's about the only down side for this place. Great service, easy to make reservations, including reserving the bar, good menu, great cocktails and great atmosphere!
We made reservations on a very short notice that there was no problem with that. Tables were available on a Friday at 7:30PM. The mustard greens salad was incredible, as was the uni and spyder rolls. Give it a try, this place is very good.
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
the sashimi was the best that
the sashimi was the best that I have had anywhere, very fresh. we sat at the sushi bar, I had hoped for more interaction with the sushi chef. I like it when they talk to you and give you recommendations. At this restaurant you order from the waitress even if you sit at the bar. I think that it took away from the true sushi bar experience. I would still go back though, the sushi was awesome!

I LOVE Sushi
After hearing from a friend that works here, and from so many other people of how great the food is here - I HAD to go try. Seattle Restaurant Week came and this was my chance!
The experience of eating at the sushi bar and being able to converse with the sushi chef, Tai Chi, made it even more enjoyable! Everything from my appetizer of the oysters (OMG so good) to my omakase (can anything just melt in your mouth and be so good?!), to my chestnut creme brulee...I will be definitely going back.
Definitely worth every penny eating here.
10/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Seattle Restaurant Week:
Neta, sea food on the rice ball of the Combination Sushi, was very fresh. Nigiri, rice ball, was a little too big for me. I prefer small Nigiri.
Oysters in shell were very fresh and tasty.
Chestnut Creme Brulee and Yuzu Yorgrut Penna Cotta are superb!
They were so refreshing with full of flavor of the ingredients, chestnut and Yuzu respectively that I was thinking of them over night.
10/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Freshest sushi around
We visited during Seattle Restaurant Week, and had a great selection to choose from along with an alternative sashimi plate for $10. Everything was delicious and all of the sushi and sashimi was very fresh. We also had dessert, and they were good, but I wouldn't suggest getting dessert here...fill up on the sushi/sashimi!
10/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Went to sushi Kappo tamura for restaurant week and was not expecting fish that good! They really know what they're doing! Ranks up their with some of my favourite sushi places in Japan!
10/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellant sushi options
Tamura had 6 different tuna sashimi options and they had about 20 different Saki options, plus several other fish options, all very fresh. You'll need reservations, all the tables were taken, and most of the sushi bar seats were occupied (a good sign if you want very fresh fish). There were about 8 people working in the food prep. area on a Tuesday night. some unique rolls were available, however the seafood options were much more extensive. Our orders were promptly completed and delivered, however the bill payment process was very slow (perhaps I should have used a credit card). There were two of us, we ordered bottle Saki, one roll, 6 pieces sushi, two oysters, and 12 pieces sashimi, our bill was $118. I would definitely go again.
10/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent and fresh ingredients
We love dining at Tamura! The service and food are always spot on and delicious.
Tamura San is there whenever we done there, so it's nice to see the owner be hands on with his preparations of food.

Had the tasting menu and it
Had the tasting menu and it was absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced. Chose to sit at the sushi bar and received a lof attention from the chef. Wonderful.

Amazing food and specialty cocktails. I took my fiance there for a special occasion and they made me look like superman. So impressed with their efforts to make us feel special. Recommend 100%

The food was fresh, delicious and ample. Loved the presentation!

I met a friend for lunch and we both agreed, it was the best we had in a long time. Food was excellent. Service was great from the minute we sat down and were given a warm washcloth for our hands. The bento style lunch was excellent. The panna cotta dessert was the perfect end to a really wonderful meal. Highly recommend it and will go back again soon.
