Wonderful experience per usual.
Perfect impromptu date night spot. Best charcuterie in town, never fail menu, and great ambiance.

I have been here several times. The food is always good and the service top notch. The menu is somewhat limited but given the level of business (it's never been busy on my visits), I suppose that's a necessity.

Great find. Unlikely spot
Warm atmosphere. Knowledgable server. Splendid menu. Good house wine selection. A new favorite right outside downtown Charleston in Mt. Pleasant. Location is a bit odd in a small shopping center. We bought gift certificates for friends to try Opals. We liked it a great deal.

Mt. Pleasant Gem
This restaurant is just what Mt. Pleasant needed. Downtown quality without having to cross the bridge. Centrally located so it's easy to reach from all points in Mt. P as well as IOP and Sullivan's. Housemade pasta dishes are excellent and the steaks are incredible. My husband had the filet and it was outstanding. The panna cotta was one of the best desserts I've ever had! The only complaint I had is that the sauce on my veal Marsala was a little too sweet for my tastes. We will make this one of our go-to restaurants.

Great food in Isle of Palms area
If you are on vacation in the Isle of Palms/Wild Dunes area, this is a great restaurant that doesn't require driving all the way to Charleston. We have a condo on James Island, near downtown Charleston, and I can tell you from experience that the food at Opal in Mt. Pleasant (right off the IOP connector) is on par with the best dining on the Charleston peninsula. Don't miss it.

the waiter, the waiter, the waiter
Our first time for dinner. Kyle made a good night a great experience. His knowledge of the menu and the wine list helped to pair a good wine with our meal. We explained our preference for a red wine to go with the local seafood that was featured. Know it was our 46th wedding anniversary he gave us our space but was there on the spot when needed. The charcuterie was terrific, again aided by Kyles knowledge of the available combinations.
Add this restaurant to your list, then ask for Kyle.

everything was perfect
we had a wonderful dinner with two friends....the food was outstanding, especially the steamed clams, and the chitarra pasta. Desserts were excellent, especially the chocolate hazelnut cake. Oh and the salads were spectacular, fresh greens and delicious dressings. The wine was very good, plus the mint-ginger bourbon cocktails were great! Service was excellent and unobtrusive. Room was 80% full, but we were able to hear each other easily. Highly recommend.

Opal in June
The food was very good on my latest visit. I especially like the small portions as you get plenty of food and the price is reasonable.

We live in the Seaside Farms
We live in the Seaside Farms neighborhood, but do not get to Opal very often. So when out of town friends were here and we took them there. We had a great dinner we all enjoyed the food, the service etc. OUr friends have a beach condo close by so they were thrilled to know about another great restaurant they can visit without having to go "downtown" and park!!

My husband and I had a lovely time. We ordered the full 16 item charcuterie as our meal, and it was impeccably composed and plated. We will return, without question. Thank you for an amazing evening.

Mt. Pleasant's Best Kept Secret
Not so secret anymore - full on arrival and almost full when we left near 10:00. Whatever the soup du jour is is always excellent - this night tomato bisque with baby shrimp. Fresh-made mozzarella with cherry tomatoes and a drizzle of balsamic – wonderful. The fresh catch was grouper – emphasize FRESH. This baby had to be swimming earlier that day, and the accompaniments were perfect. Desert of chocolate and Frangelico pot de crème is always excellent. We have never been disappointed at Opal, and this evening exceeded our expectations – which were very high.

A gem in Mount Pleasant - wonderful
Dined here on a Friday night with my husband and daughter (11). The restaurant was busy, but not crazy. Lovely decor and open dining room. We were seated immediately and offered beverages. Our waitress came back and explained the specials and was able to answer questions about the menu. The menu features a diverse range of food with an Italian influence, hand-made pasta, lots of great choices. We had the clam appetizer (amazing), the bruscetta (equally great) and dinner was pasta, veal and a pasta entree (all outstanding). The wine list is very nice and we chose with the help of our server, who was knowledgeable about various pairings. We were so full and satisfied that only our daughter had dessert; a wonderful gelato.
We will be back!

My husband and I have lived in Mt Pleasant for three years. We are so happy, that on a whim this weekend, we decided to give Opal a try. It is our new favorite place! They have a great wine list and offer a selection of cheeses and meats. For my entree I got the filet and it was hands down the best filet I've ever had! I could almost cut it with a fork! The mashed potatoes and green beans were perfect. We finished dinner off with the lemon creams brûlée- superb! Don't hesitate giving this place a try, you won't regret it!

Why have we not been here before?
Just a great dinner. We went with the large meat and cheese appetizer - many to choose from - and 2 half orders of excellent pasta. Food was great - wine fairly priced.
We will be back.

Opal is a must!
On a Thursday night in August the restaurant had a moderate crowd of people. The food and service should make this place a lot more popular. The atmosphere is great and meal was fantastic.
My wife and I had the specials of the night. She had the pasta special which had a thick pasta with summer vegetables and shrimp while I had the Grouper over wild rice, sweet corn and blue crab.
The service was incredible as our waiter was very helpful and knowledgable. I would definitely come back to this restaurant.
This restaurant is a must if you are looking for a nice place with great food and atmosphere.

The fresh fish Grouper was outstanding and compared to a New York meal at Gotham Grill. Highly recommended.

A great find
Excellent food and cocktails! There were just enough people in the restaurant for it to seem lively, but not so much that it was overcrowded. Our appetizers (duck rillettess for me, spicy shrimp bruschetta for my guest) were amazing as were our entrees (seared lamb for me and whole wheat chitarra for my guest), we will definitely be back, as were there so many other items we definitely want to try!

Nice Surprise in Mt. Pleasant!
Hip, cool vibe in Mt. P. Our server David was outstanding with great menu knowledge and very attentive. Ordered cocktails of a Ginger Bourbon and a Hibiscus Mojito. Boubon drink was good. The Hibiscus Mojito was awful. Tasted like rubbing alcohol. Things would get better! For dinner we started with the charcuterie and cheese appetizers and seafood corn bisque: both first rate. Entrees of Grouper and Diver Scallops were perfect. Desserts of Chocolate Pots De Creme' and Chocolate-Caramel Cake (we like chocolate!) were both excellent. Wonderful, creative menu with first class service. Somewhat pricey but very glad we finally tried it. All in all, a great evening. We will be back!

Food Fit for a Queen
In my group we had 10 writers. Ten hungry writers were attending a retreat at Isle of Palms. Someone recommend your restaurant and it sounded like a good idea. It turned out to be a great idea. All the ladies raved about the food and the service couldn't have been better. You'll be seeing us next year when we return for reading, writing and eating at Opal Restaurant.

Ambitious, and Almost There
First time: Saturday, 5:00 pm. Piped-in jazz was nice but too loud for so early & so few diners. Service: attentive and thoughtful. Shrimp bisque app was perfect, as were duck rillettes with apricot marmalade. She had beef filet, med-rare with mascarpone mashed potatoes and haricots verts. Steak nicely done if a touch too rare; potatoes delicious but should have been warmer. I had grouper with Carolina Gold rice, blue crab & sweet corn w/tarragon butter -- rich and delicious, the fish perfect. Surprise dessert arrived gratis for my wife's birthday, a lovely touch. Corner booth offered privacy but was clearly opposite the kitchen sink -- clanging pots literally shook our table frequently. A tad too pricey but overall quite nice.

A great neighborhood find
My family and I have lived in Mount Pleasant for just a year and most of our dining experiences have been spent in Charleston. We decided to try somewhere local and Opal was our choice When we walked in we were pleasantly surprised at the decor and ambience. Our waitress was exceptional and very knowledgable about the menu. She was the perfect compliment to the experience as a whole. The food was outstanding. The chef created a menu that helped you decompress from a hard week of work. They have a wonderful selection of cheese boards and the pasta and seafood selection was superb. I would say my only regret is we didn't have dessert. I will put Opal as one of my favorites and will be visiting it frequently.

One Dish Better Than The Next
My wife and I visited Opal during Restaurant week. This limited our selections, of course, however each dish that we tried was something special. The variety of cheeses and meats, the Grouper (which, typically, I don't order) to the sorbets and gelatos. Everything was excellent. It was a bit noisy, but nothing terrible.
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
Every course was perfect in presentation, blending of flavors and temperature. Strip steak melted in your mouth. House made sorbet in a variety of unusual flavors was great finish to a wonderful meal.

Don't miss the mozzarella appetizer, we think its the best in Charleston. We eat here every couple months and the meals are consistantly very good

We just returned from 8 days in California, (Monterey, Napa & San Francisco) and Opal topped all of the places we had dinner on that trip. We had the duck and grouper...both were prepared perfectly.

Quality menu and service
Great Charcuterie choices. Excellent martini and service. When you want to eat "downtown" quality, this is one of best in Mt P. Truly a neighborhood gem.

Another wonderful meal
Opal is our favorite restaurant in Mt. Pleasant. We have never been disappointed with any aspect of our dining experience and frequently take our out of town foodie guests here for dinner. The food is fabulous, service is exemplary all within such a pleasant atmosphere.

Nice new IOP, Mt. P offering
We are fond of Langdon's and Opal is similarly good. Service very good, food was good. We were there on a quiet night, not much business and so quiet. It's an easy, good choice for people staying at IOP and who want to avoid the longer trek to CHS to get a good meal.
10/22/2013 5:00:00 PM
Excellent food. With a nice variety of beef, lamb, & fish. A la carte menu makes if a bit pricey if you want more than 2 courses. Online menu gives you an opportunity to review selection an prices before making your decision.

Seaside Farms Gem!
Opal is a delightful place to dine! The carne crude was outstanding as way the filet special and the grouper on the menu. Our server was a lovely young lady who was very attentive. It is, definitely, a "go back" place. The location is a plus for us as we live in Wild Dunes and it is just over the connector from us. Give it a try!

Langdon does it right-again
Have eaten many times at Langdon's, and was very pleased to learn that his new restaurant is just as good..From appetizers to home made desserts, a great dining experience. With Basil across the street, Mt. Pleasant diners can choose between the best of the Far East and the Mediterranean.
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
I'll be going back!
We went on a Monday night so the restaurant was very quiet and cozy. Food was outstanding. Especially loved the warm mozzarella and shrimp brochette starters. We both ordered 2 different pastas which was very good but very rich. I recommend getting a small portion. We were too full for desert..maybe next time!

Tried Opal out on my birthday
My husband and I love Langdons so decided to make a reservation at Opal for my birthday. We both loved it and are happy to have another fine restaurant in Mount Pleasant. We ordered the charcuterie and cheese plate and asked for the chef to make the selections for us. It was fantastic. We both ordered the filet mignon with a side of pasta with local shrimp - divine. The wine list was great as was the atmosphere. Looking forward to going back often.

Well pleased with the food
Well pleased with the food and our experience. Will return soon. So often restaurants in strip centers are cold and unappealing and uninteresting. Opal was a pleasant surprise, the ambiance was warm and inviting. Service was also very good.
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
verything on the menu is superb. Very consistent - I've never had a badmeal at Opal. Worth every penny - will visit again soon.

Didn't have to drive all the way to Charleston from IOP for outstanding cuisine and service. Everything was prepared perfectly.

Probably the best restaurant in Charleston. I have eaten at Opal's on many occasions and the food is magnificent. The food and service is always incredible. Some of my favorites are the Shrimp Bruschetta, the pastas and the salmon.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
The food was great and the service was even better! I had the scallops and was in heaven after one bite! Will visit again!

A Local Favorite
Opal has never disappointed us. A lovely restaurant in Mt Pleasant with attentive staff and excellent food. The spicy shrimp bruschetta appetizer is always delicious. The chhese and charcuterie platter is a fun way to sample small bits of house cured meats and cheeses. The pasta dishes are heavenly with homemade pasta. We like that they offer full or half portions of the pasta.

Loved the experience
We had excellent service courtesy of LeighAnn! She made our experience great based on her suggestions. We started with a charcuterie and cheese board that was to die for and our entrees were equally great! My fiancé had the entree with lamb meatballs, which were perfectly textured and spiced, and I had the pasta with truffled mushrooms, which I'm still craving. We had such a great experience that we bought the cheeses we tasted and recreated our experience when we got back to North Carolina where we live. I can't wait to go back!
