Great mid-week spot
We dined here on Tuesday with my inlaws. Not only was the food fantastic, their half and full servings are very generous. Tuesday nights are half-price bottles of wine, who can beat that? We enjoyed two lovely bottles of Sangiovese. Lavagna is located just down the street from our house and we will certainly be returning.

I went to Lavagna for dinner
I went to Lavagna for dinner this past Friday night- had the pesto rigatoni pasta and it was great! All pasta dishes are made hand-made and it shows. Also had the bellini cocktail, which was a nice and refreshing drink with dinner. Bruschetta appetizer was yummy, though a bit small (3 pieces.) If you are really hungy or want to get two meals out of your dish, I'd suggest getting the full-size pasta. I had enough for leftovers even after I was really full. You get a lot in the full sized dish. Two of my friends had the ravioli and loved it. Note that portion is a bit smaller and they did not have leftovers. Great place that's walkable from the Eastern Market metro station and close to a number of bars if you want to get some drinks after.

Spectacular fresh pastas and
Spectacular fresh pastas and sauces-- don't miss out on the beef shortrib! Great atmosphere and exceptionally friendly wait staff.

Delicious, loud group brunch
Lavagna was a ton of fun for a group of us to unwind, grab some mimosas, and enjoy really good brunch food. It was a bit loud, and one end of the table couldn't really hear the other, but our waitress was great, and our glasses were always full. Menu is slightly limited, but all the options at our table were done well. Would definitely recommend for a group of 4, so that everyone could hear each other.

Good birthday experience!
Went here for a friend's low-key birthday celebration. Reservation was simple through OpenTable, and for a fairly small restaurant, they were very accommodating of our group of 8. Love the emphasis on food done right (local farms). Food was delicious, though a little slow. Pesto and shortrib were outstanding. Great red wine selection and fun craft cocktails! Would be just as good for an easy weeknight meal with your significant other. Definitely plan to return.

Great Italian in Capitol Hill D.C.
In the Capitol Hill District of Wash D.C. there is an Italian restaurant named Lavanga which has some of the best authentic Italian food. they are a farm to table restaurant and all of their pasta is homemade and the Charcuterie is amazing. You must also save room for dessert and order their tiramisu which is one of a kind in taste and presentation. I also want to note that the service I received was first rate from start to finish. This is now our favorite Italian restaurant.

Delicious and unique brunch
My book club alternates brunch in Capitol Hill and SW. Lavagna's food was delcious and unique. I had the Italian sausage gravy on foccacia and a fruit plate. Though it was a very heavy meal, I enjoyed the flavor of the dish and it's unique spin on the Southern recipe. The fruit plate was substantial and delicious. My group did not partake in bottomless mimosas because of the heat, but our water glasses could have been refilled and given the heat, I would have appreciated ice in my glass. I ordered fresh squeezed juice and was not asked if I wanted another glass. I think the service was good, but could be better. We arrive ahead of time and had made a reservation and our table was not ready. I would go back as the food was amazing.

Brunch was very good
We got the goat cheese and spinach omelet and the nutella mascarpone pancakes for Sunday brunch. The pancakes looked like they had sat for too long, and what was once a blob of nutella mascarpone melted into a wet brown spot on the top pancake. I was ready to be disappointed, but they turned out really delicious. The omelet was very good, but nothing to rave about. The pre-mixed bottomless mimosas were room temperature, which was fine with me, but could turn off some customers. Our server was very busy and didn't chat about anything, but did keep our glasses full. Overall, despite the few minor gripes, the meal was significantly better than what I consider an average brunch, and I would recommend it.

A Perfect outside Brunch!
Brunch here was absolutely fantastic! The mimosa's were delicious and the food came out in a timely manner and was absolutely delicious!!! A truly wonderful time!
7/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
The mascarpone pancakes were delectable (our awesome waiter Steve even brought additional choco-nutella sauce with no hassle). Adding honey butter that comes with the focaccia bread (definitely ask for some!) makes them out of this world. Bottomless mimosas: refreshing and the right amount of boozy. And my glass was always quickly refilled (which as any good brunch go-er know, very important). Service: We cam at prime time so the place was bustling, but our waiter manged to still strike the perfect balance between friendly and efficient. All in all, I can't wait to go back!

Great locally sourced food.
We enjoyed our meal very much. I highly recommend the scallops and the charcuterie. We had allergy concerns and the staff was very accommodating.

Had a group of friends go here for brunch this past weekend. We each got a different dish and were fully pleased with everything. We also all split the chicken and waffles, which were out of this world! The truffled potatoes that accompany nearly every dish are perhaps reason enough to return. As it started to drizzle, my friends and I moved inside, where it was much louder, but not in a bad way. We were hoping that our bottomless mimosas would continue even though we had finished eating. Alas, our glasses were only refilled when we expressly asked that they be. Overall, though, everything was good and I'll certainly be back!

Great Night near 8th and I
My wife has been desperately searching for good gluten-free pasta, and this place delivered. Since I'm not gluten free, I was able to enjoy the pappardelle and the bread too. The charcuterie was dynamite, especially the duck prosciutto and the goat cheese. The wine and beer lists were impressive, and the service very attentive. Outstanding time overall, and we'll be back!

Enjoyed a slow Wednesday evening
Found this place on Open Table while searching for something in DC on 8th Street. The neighborhood great and lively. Wife ordered the Corzetti Seafood and I ordered the Rockfish. Both excellent. Waitstaff attentive, friendly, and ambience relaxing.

I can dig it!
Birthday brunch, for a whose who and a tween teen! It was a perfect setting for both! The tween teen thought the pancakes were amazing! He gave it a thumbs up and a return request. What can I say, the tween teen loves fine dining wi a casual atmosphere. The whose who was her birthday! Early 40s, she is posh and very trendy! And she loved the place. Guess so, it was her recommendation. It is a must try. Has a little for everyone :)

I love this place because of the combination of good food (always very good homemade Italian with quality ingredients), good service, and incredible prices. The portions are such that I only ever need to get the half dinner portions, which comes out to like $10 a plate for really good homemade pasta. I've had good homemade pasta elsewhere and this is the same, nothing out of the ordinary in the class of good Italian restaurants (although obviously much better than your typical Maggiano's type place) but the service is always very competent and the price just can't be beat. The charcuterie plate is also one of the best I've ever had. Lavagna is one of my favorite standbys in the neighborhood (plus I love the outdoor seating in good weather).
8/10/2013 5:00:00 PM
Had a wonderful time at Lavagna for a 7 person brunch. I made reservations based on a blog that rated Lavagna the best brunch of 2012, and it did not disappoint. We all agreed that we would return.

Tutto Bene at Lavagna
My guest and I really enjoyed dining at Lavagna. The pancakes are amazing. The crab omelet was good too. I always like bottomeless mimosas and, surprisingly, it was not "brunch crazy". There was certainly quite a few people there but the staff seemed calm and prepared.
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Went for brunch in a party of 3. When we arrived no outside seating was available, but the hostess help us keep an eye out for once an outside table opened. She was super nice and we enjoyed joking with her.
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Highly recommend for brunch, especially the bottomless mimosas and omelettes. Very attentive wait staff and overall enjoyable experience.

Restaurant Week Lunch
After doing a little research, my roommate and I settled on Lavagna for our restaurant week lunch. The set menu was delicious and was way more food than we could eat. The pork belly in particular was wonderful, and the blackberry black pepper waffles were amazing. It was very quiet as it was lunchtime and Congress is in recess so Barracks Row was a little quieter than normal. We sat outside under an umbrella, started with wine and had a delicious lunch!
8/19/2013 5:00:00 PM
We took advantage of Restaurant Week to visit Lavagna for lunch yesterday and boy, were we happy with the entire experience! I was a bit worried when I walked in for my 1:15 p.m. reservation and there were NO other restaurant patrons, but my fears were soon set to rest. The service was attentive without being obtrusive and the server quickly realized that this was a "catch-up" lunch so she gave us plenty of time between visits to the table. I was also a bit concerned by how limited the restaurant week menu was (2 appetizer, 3 entree and 2 dessert selections), but again, my fears were allayed by the AMAZING food. With it's proximity to the Eastern Market Metro station, this restaurant delivers on ALL levels. Highly recommended.
8/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Amazingly fresh ingredients crafted into fantastic dishes, served by an attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly staff. What more can you ask for in such a great neighborhood as Barracks Row. Iff the only thing you can find "wrong" is they can't make a specific cocktail because they ran out of their housemade orange liquor - you know you are in a place that cares about the art of dining and knows how to keep it fun and approachable.
Oh, and if you get Jason as your server you will be doubly pleased. Great guy.
8/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Addition to the Neighborhood
Lavagna has been open for about two years -- and it consistently surpasses our expectations. The food is local and made from scratch. The pastas are fantastic, as was the chicken and waffles (a dish which may only be around because of restaurant week). You can also get small plates of the pastas, if you want to try a couple of different dishes (recommended). The ravioli are always stand-out. Their wine list is also great, and the wine flights are fun. Their front patio has a great ambience. Completely reasonable prices. The upstairs bar is surprisingly cool as well -- a place to sip cocktails and watch sports, and quiet enough that you can easily hear your companions.
8/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Lavagna is always a great meal with fine service. Wish there was at least one vegetarian entree. As it is, there's only one vegetarian pasta.

Wonderful Bunch Menu
We love going to Lavagna for bunch. Great use of local ingredients. The sausage gravy is outstanding.
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was a great restaurant. I have been eyeing the brunch menu for awhile. I must say it did not let me down. The service could have been a little better. Our server was quite friendly but not as attentive as I would have liked. The restaurant wasn’t very busy so he should have been more attentive.
However, that aside, the food and place was fabulous.

Locally grown and tasty food!
My beau and I had an early dinner here on a Friday night. We sat outside and watched Barrack's Row go by, it was lovely. The food tasted great, a bit small portions for the price, but the food is local and inventive. He had the Ravioli--and LOVED it, I had the Panzanella salad and half risotto--it was very good. Local brews, wines and spirits. I've also had brunch here before, and it was just as tasty!
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
Be sure to try the charcuterie
The charcuterie is wonderful. So good, in fact, that we could have had cocktails, charcuterie, salad and dessert, without the need for entree.

Continues to be one of my favorites
Lavagna is one of my favorite restaurants in DC. I'm continually impressed by the quality of their food and the bill never seems to break the bank. Try the chicken. Really.

5th Lavagna experience
Lavagna must have been on their brunch game this past Saturday as this was my best experience so far brunching at the restaurant. The restaurant was busy, but our food and drinks came out SUPER quickly and everything was delicious. The waitress brought me honey for my tea and kept bringing me hot water for more tea. All of our requests were accommodated almost instantly. This is why this is the first place I recommend when someone asks me to pick the brunch spot.
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
It took a while for the waitress
It took a while for the waitress to initially attend to our table. (I believe she was just overwhelmed). But once I flagged her down, she was very attentive. The food and atmosphere are great. Try the potatoes!
10/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
Our dining party has now experienced Lavagna twice - and both dinners were fantastic. Each item ordered by each person was so very good, as is the service. Ruby has been our server both times, and she's terrific. Bravo!
10/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food Great conscience
I went to Lavagna because they agreed to donate 25% of their profits on 10/17 to the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (a truly wonderful space nearby). We started with cocktails at the upstairs bar -moderately priced hand made cocktails were a pleasant start to our meal. We moved to our table and were served by the bartender who was very charming. We all had a hard time deciding what to order. Each of us started with a different salad composed of local seasonal produce. I had a perfect beet salad and my friends had one with apple and another with pear. We also shared a ravioli fritta which was perfect - the filling was goat cheese and a warm duck.egg. and the sauce was a rich marinara. So delicious! I highly recommend Lavagna!
10/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Amazing service as always.
Amazing service as always. This is my third time for brunch for a reason! Keep up the amazing work and we will be back soon.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
First time at Lavagna brunch. The waitress told us that they take brunch very seriously there. She was not kidding. My salmon was smoked in house. Everything was fresh and homemade, even the delicious ketchup (for brunch potatoes). I can't recommend this enough.

Good food, in a great setting
There were 6 of us at dinner & every meal got a rave review, most of us favoring the pasta. Our party was seated in a small alcove, giving us plenty of quiet space. The service was memorably great. Food was on time, right temperature, served correctly. No rush, but a good pace. Excellent pricing. Liked the smaller portions of pasta available - allowed us to indulge in a shared appetizer and desserts. All in all a lovely evening. I have been there a couple of times before and will continue to patronize Lavagna as often as I can!
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Was in DC to run the Marine Corps Marathon made reservations for my pre-race meal. Arrived at 6:30 pm and was very glad I made reservations because the place was packed and there was a long wait for tables. I ordered a pear and Gorgonzola salad and the fettuccine with lamb ragu. The salad was very tasty and had small pieces of well-cured bacon that added a nice touch. It was perhaps a bit overpriced ($9) for a relatively small serving. The fettuccine serving was generous, but not excessive. The dollop of ricotta gave a wonderful creaminess. The service was outstanding throughout. This is a good place for date night, but seating is tight and don't expect a lot of privacy.

Had a wonderful brunch while sitting outdoors on a gorgeous fall day. Food was tasty, service was attentive. Overall good experience.

THE BEST MEAL / hand made pasta; divine sauces; stellar service; half portions -- an idea which should be everywhere; tiramisu from Heaven; well spaced seating. GO!

Great neighborhood Italian restaurant with homemade pasta! Also, a delicious gluten-free pasta option is available.
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
The food wasn't the best. Tuffle potatoes are good. Our waitress kept our glasses full and that makes up for the subpar food!
11/16/2013 4:00:00 PM
Bottomless mimosa deal - love it!
Loved the great deal they had on their bottomless - they weren't too orangey either! Great mix, got pretty tipsy and the food was SO flavorful and delicious.

Lavagna always comes through...
...with a very good meal, at a very good price, in a neighborhood with very competitive restaurants. It doesn't matter if it's a business dinner, a friend, or a date, Lavagna is always a hit. Portion sizes are sometimes hard to judge... the difference between a half, and a whole, is sometimes a bit small, other times not. Be sure to ask your server, no biggie.
11/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
My friend and I were both trying this restaurant out for the first time and we thought it was fantastic! We both appreciated the fresh and locally sourced ingredients; however, what made it a truly excellent meal was a combination of warm hospitality and creative culinary combinations. While my carbonara--a decadent dish I eat very sparingly--could have used a touch more salt and pepper, I enjoyed the usage of leafy herbs, thick-cut pancetta, and freshly shaved parm to elevate the dish beyond its typical monotone, cream-laden richness. As a perfect pairing to our meal, we had well-blended mimosas which never ran dry. The service was attentive but never intrusive.
All in all--I'm definitely visiting again!

These days bottomless brunches are a dime a dozen, but this Eastern Market fave rock the food portion of brunch with amazing omelettes and fantastic nutella pancakes. Yummy!
