We had a great meal at El Farol! We called to change our reservation time and they were very friendly. We ordered the tapas for 2 and had so much fun trying new foods. The service was great and the atmosphere was very cozy on a cold night. Easy and cheap parking right across the street.

While I am a regular visitor
While I am a regular visitor to Santa Fe, this was my first trip to El Farol. Met a bud from school there for a quick getaway and some relaxation. We went on Tuesday night which is the night for the blues jam session. We weren't disappointed. We had the tapas for 2 and it was more than enough for us. Accompanied by some recommended wines, we had perfect pairings. The entertainment was better than expected and we stayed until the place closed down. I don't think that I saw one person that wasn't smiling all night including the waitstaff. It was a great way to start out our stay in Santa Fe and I'll definitely be back again the next time that I'm in town.

We so enjoyed our dining experience at El Farols. Our friendly waitress guided us through our tasty tapas selection. While enjoying our flourless chocolate we were accompanied by a wonderful singer and violinist. We enjoyed our experience so much that we went back for lunch the next day. Lunch was luscious too.

A favorite for us--we love
A favorite for us--we love the food, the ambiance and the service. If you aren't in the mood for tapas, there are excellent entrees to choose from but we usually go for the small plates as you get to try more dishes.

Tapas style menu along with other main entrees. Very knowledgeable staff making good recommendations for tapas choices. Good food, not great but good, along with an appropriate wine menu. Full bar and wild and loud bar scene.

The tapas were great, but
The tapas were great, but the paella was much better when we last ate here 5-6 years ago. Also the ambience was better before with the lights dimmed. Overall an enjoyable dinner though.

Had the 6 tapa special and were delighted. Our friends also enjoyed their entrees. The only down-side to El Farol is that somehow they can't brew a decent cup of espresso.

Top of my List for Entertainment
This was my first visit and I was truly satisfied. The service couldn't have been better, the music was wonderful and the food was great. It turned out to be a very romantic evening.

We tried the small bites tasting items in the bar area. The food was delicious and the staff was wonderful. Thanks, EL FAROL!

Tapas & Service... Over the Top!
This is a place my mother used to bring us to when we were kids growing up in Santa Fe.... we loved the food and authentic Flamenco music. Coming back was such a treat! The tapas were creative, good sized and delicious. The music on this night was Blues / Rock, so I was a little disappointed not to have my beloved Flamenco, but it was still really great music & a festive atmosphere. I will continue to return to El Farol each time I visit Santa Fe. Love it!!

dinner followed by music
The dinner plus the music in the bar afterwards made for a very enjoyable evening. El Farol is primarily a tapas restaurant. My wife and I are not tapas people, so the paella for two and parillada mixta for two have both worked very well for us. The bar has terrific atmosphere, ad the wine list has ample choices. In fact it was at El Farol years ago that we learned albarino is a perfect complement to paella. We have dined there many times over the years, and will continue in future.
5/11/2013 4:00:00 PM
We ordered a variety of Tapas and each one was outstanding! Bossa Nova music in the bar with dessert made the evening special.
5/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
My Wife and I were not really familiar with Spanish cooking or Tapas. We shared the 6 plate Tapas dinner and enjoyed every course. The Mango Chipotle Shrimp and the Pear Salad were both excellent. Shrimp and Mussels in the potato and saffron broth was very good also. Our server suggested excellent wines to pair with the offerings

The food is fantastic and the dinner show is a must see
while in Santa Fe!

Great anniversary lunch
We celebrated our anniversary at El Farol and had an early lunch seated on their front porch outdoor dining area overlooking typical downtown shopping, galleries, and cafes. El Farol's outdoor patio has beautiful flower boxes and maintains a classy aire for a special meal...nicely done. The weather was perfect and we had a nice breeze. It is possible that traffic noise could make things a little louder than one desires at a nice lunch if you are seated outdoors, but this was only a problem once for us throughout our meal (car passing without proper muffler was gunning engine). The mussle tapa was excellent and nicely displayed as was the paella for two. The service was great! They were attentive but didn't rush us. We'll return soon!

Do NOT miss El Farol in Santa Fe!
A MUST in Santa Fe. Try the tapas. We went back twice. Very impressive food, cocktails were amazing and the setting is incredible! Make sure to call for dinner reservations.

Friday Fun on Canyon
Great to start at the bottom of Canyon at 5pm when the openings/receptions at various galleries begin, and then to end up at El Farol at 7pm for tapas and wine. Quintessential Santa Fe evening ...

Inviting atmosphere. Knowledgeable waiter who made great suggestions but served us quietly. Great selection of tapas and wine.

Went to El Farol for the Flamenco show, which was extraordinary. Loved it. Food and service played second fiddle. After asking waiter to give us a few minutes to determine what we would eat, it took him forever to come back to our table. We chose tapas for four, and had to choose twelve items from the lengthy list. Hard to keep track of for us, and the waiter. And we did have to remind him of one of the items we ordered. Drinks took long to come to the table. Bussers tried to remove plates before we were finished. However, it did seem to work itself out as the night went on.
Tapas were pretty good and satisfied us all. But the Flamenco was incredible! That is the reason to return.

Best Spanish Cuisine in Santa Fe
El Farol is never a let down. I ordered the Bonito and it was absolutely delicious. The wait staff is very attentive and our food came out fast. Dessert was yummy as well. Great entertainment. There's parking directly across the street which is a treat in itself in Santa Fe. By far my favorite restaurant.

Booked 6 months in advance as we were coming in from Australia. Having done lunch at El Farol before on the front terrace, we knew the food would not disappoint. El Farol is THE place for excellent food, especially tapas!; staff and wonderful night entertainment. Wine recommendations were excellent, the waiter knowledgeable on the menu. On this occasion, we booked the Flamenco show, the energy and dedication displayed by the dancers, singer and wonderful guitarist was impressive. Eventually the crowd got with the program and participated with clapping and Ole's - and the performers responded with even more flair. From the Flamenco Institute, this troupe displayed a knowledge and love of their craft I've not seen outside of Spain.

Must dine at in Santa Fe
This is such a special restaurant with EXCEPTIONAL food, service, and ambiance. I have dined here many times and the experience is always consistent.
8/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
The flamenco show is excellent--a great spot for out of town guests. Good wine list at decent prices. The tapas were fair at best. Mussels were drowned in sauce and small. Marinated portobellos were not to our taste at all. Salads were good but small. Artichoke plate just was not particularly well done. The chef should start rethinking the tapas menu.

Favorite Santa Fe spot
Great place to share tapas and enjoy a glass of wine on the portal.

Great tapas in Santa Fe
My boyfriend and I made reservations to eat here during our vacation in Santa Fe and I'm so glad we did! It was a beautiful evening, so we sat outside on the front porch area. We were right next to the hostess stand and she seemed a little overwhelmed when it got busy. I would highly recommend making a reservation and requesting outside dining, since that filled up early in the evening. We got a tapas plate for two, which I first thought wouldn't be enough food, but it was perfect! The blue cheese with honey and almonds was my favorite, the grilled shrimp a close second. The salmon was good, but nothing too special. We finished with the tres leches cake, the coconut milk and tequila cream were the perfect way to finish!

Whenever in Santa Fe...
... we make sure to visit this delightful tapas cafe. So relaxing to sit on the front porch and enjoy good food and wine while people-watching on the Canyon Road.

Great restaurant for Tapas. Nice outside seating area overlooking Canyon road. We choose option of six tapas items for $50. All were great; pear salad, parmesan crusted artichoke, flash fried avocado, blue cheese with marcona almonds and honey, rib eye kabob, and lamb chop. All were well prepared,

This was a wonderful and surprising
This was a wonderful and surprising dining experience! Really good tapas dishes although the portions are much larger than we are used to at tapas places in Philadelphia (like Tinto or the now-extinct Chifa). Fried avocado - great! The owner is very hands-on and was a gracious host. The music that night added to a very enjoyable evening.
9/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
The restaurant is know for tapas but don't miss the paella for two. It is filled with clams, scallops, chicken, pork, mussels and so much more. Excellent restaurant!! We sat on the front porch and it was delightful. Don't miss it when in Santa Fe!

Food and service were excellent Slightly chilly evening for outdoor dining

This historic cantina was exactly the atmosphere we desired after atrolling thru the galleries. Tapas and drinks were great and we loved the blend of locals with visitors. great live music, quaint, fun!

An outstanding place
We had the opportunity to dine there twice, once on Sept. 26 and also on Sept. 29. Everyone working there was helpful, servers were very attentive, and the food was excellent. Loved the tapas menu. I like the quieter room instead of the bar, but the bar looked like fun for after dinner entertainment. Will definitely go back next time in Santa Fe.

Santa Fe Gem
Fantastic experience. Upon arriving we initially thought we would eat outside but as the weather cooled we decided to sit inside and was easily accommodated. Informative waitress regarding food descriptions and wine selection. Very friendly staff. Food was delicious. I had salmon on manchego polenta. What a combination. Will return on my next visit

Tacos & Pollo Curri
Wonderful chicken and shrimp tacos. Filled nicely! Yummy chicken curry sandwich with a side of fries. Would definitely go back again.

Nice experience in Santa Fe
We loved the atmosphere and the decorations. If you go Saturday night there is a Flamenco show as well ($25 extra). We loved the food, we had mixed grill and the lamb chops and shrimps were cooked perfectly.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
I had dinner here with a friend and the tapa menu was perfect for what we wanted. The small plates were actually very shareable with a generous amount for "small". The menu offers 6 tapa plates for $50 so we etched selected 3 plates and had a glass of wine.
The only item I didn't think was my favorite was the bread (it's free). It was too soft and not firm and crusty enough for my taste.
Delightful atmosphere and cozy for a cool, rainy fall evening.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Overall pretty good
The menu items were spotty in quality - some were great (pollo curri) and others not so much. Service was great.

Great food but no music!
Thanksgiving at El Farol was promoted as having live music--and there wasn't any! Also, how can a restaurant in Santa Fe be out of New Mexican wine?? The food was wonderful, but we made the reservation based on the fact that they advertised flamenco guitar music and they didn't seem very apologetic about it...which makes me think the music wasn't really planned.
