great neighborhood restaurant
This is our second time here. We brought another couple with us and they loved it before we had a bite to eat. There is a certain charm about the place, very lincoln park. The service was very good and the food is excellent. I had the argula salad and it was very good. I also had the prime rib and it was perfect and juicy. My husband had the duck and it was also delicious. The wine selection is limited but we picked 2 very good ones. The prices are within range for the area. We will definitely be regulars here.

Loved this restaurant! I feel
Loved this restaurant! I feel like it is pretty hard to find a good restaurant in the Lincoln park area and this one is the best we have been to yet!!! It's a very cute place on the inside it is decorated very nicely. The grilled octopus was AMAZING like everyone else has said but it is an extremely small portion for $15. I could have ate 3 of them they were so good! They also have a gluten free menu which is a plus!! I got the rotisserie chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and it was sooooo good.. My boyfriend got the flat iron steak which they cooked perfectly our only complaint was that there was a bit too much cracked black pepper on it! His potato gratin was great too!! Overall an amazing dinner :)

perfectly cooked and prepared food
All of the dishes that we ordered were fresh and cooked to perfection. I ordered the grilled pork chop and others ordered the duck, grilled chicken and salmon. The skin on the duck and chicken were cooked to a perfect and moist crisp. We ordered 4 desserts, the trio creme brulee(coconut, banana, chocolate), goat cheese cheesecake, apple tartin with ice cream and peanut butter brownie. All were oustanding. The apple tartin had the perfect crust and a very buttery flavor. Service was very attentive. My only minor complaint is that they sat us in the back room which has much less ambiance than the front dining room (even though there was ample seating available in the front dining room).

I chose this restaurant for our work department outing, hoping that it would please diverse palettes. The food was beyond what anyone expected. This oysters were seasoned to perfection, the lamb was AMAZING, tender, huicy, cooked perfectly and not even the slightest bit gamey. We also had the Tuna, Steaks, and Mussels. EVERYTHING WAS PHENOMENAL! We cannot wait to go back. It is a bit on the pricey side but surely worth it. My only complaint is that we didnt have enough time to have dessert!

Always good food...
This was our 4th time going to Rustic House. The food has always been excellent. We had the chicken liver mousse, which was so good. I had the veal cheek ragu and my husband had the duck and both entrees were great. My only problem with the restaurant is that it is very expensive. There is not a bottle of red wine on the menu under $52. I wish they had some more moderate options on the wine list, but otherwise, it is a great place!

Had a wonderful evening at
Had a wonderful evening at the Rustic House. Requested a table near the window and was pleased to arrive to find a table for 2 tucked into the window. This helped shelter us a bit from the noise in the restaurant (it can get loud) and made for a very enjoyable evening. Swordfish chop was out of this world and garlic mashed were fabulous. Ended dinner with marscapone cheesecake which was very good as well. We also enjoyed the ceasar salad (big enough to share) and the rotisserie chicken (juicy and good flavor). Wine by the glass on the higher end (12+). Can't wait to return!

My mom and I went to Rustic House after trying to go to Ada Street last Saturday night. Ada Street's transformer blew right before we arrived for dinner so we were stuck trying to find a place for dinner at 8 pm on a Saturday night. Rustic House had an opening at 8:30 and I had heard good things so we went. It was such a pleasant surprise. Obviously a different course than the small plates we intended to have, but we both thoroughly enjoyed our dinners. We started with their heirloom tomato caprese salad (a special for the night) then I got the swordfish chop, my mom got the peppercorn steak, and we shared the potato gratin and glazed carrots. Everything was great and I'd definitely go back!

We went to Rustic House with another couple before seeing a performance at the Royal George. The food was delicious -- we all got different entrees -- tuna, lamb, duck and steadk -- and all four of us loved our food. It pleased the foodies and non-foodies in our small group. The desserts were equally delicious. Would go back again in a heatbeat.

Great food, great atmosphere!
I would recommend this place to friends and family. The lobster risotto was delicious and the lamb chops melt in your mouth. The rotisserie chicken was a little dry and plain but the garlic mashed potatoes were heavenly. The atmosphere is adorable and very romantic. We were in the back room so the noise level was minimal. Definitely would go again!

Warm, welcoming neighborhood dining
Great food, nice "rustic" ambiance, quieter back room for dining, good bar, warm, friendly service, good, reasonably-priced wine list; the kind of place you continue to go back to.
7/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Went for our anniversary, which I had noted in the reservation and in addition my wife's need for a gluten free menu as she has Celiac-Sprue. They were behind a little so we offered to sit at the bar which we preferred anyway and the bartender greeted my wife with the gluten free menu and champagne for our anniversary! Excellent service, excellent food.

Excellent mussels. Corn creme brûlée - need I say more? Friendly service, good wine selections.

Great food and service
The tuna and salmon were both wonderful, as was the Caesar salad. I lovedt corn chowder with bacon and little diced potatoes. Just wish the large party next to ya was quieter.

First time dining here and left very impressed. Great cocktail selections, varied menu with something for everyone and the nightly specials were outstanding. Service was excellent.

Tartare, Desserts Stole the Show
My mother came into town for a visit, and we were meeting up with some other friends in the city for dinner. After hearing many good things about the restaurant, I decided to place reservations at Rustic House.
We ordered the Tuna Tartare to start and it was fantastic though not whatI expected (in a good way). it was more like a raw tuna and avocado salsa. The rotisserie duck was good, but not the best I've had, and my mom's veal cheek ragout was the better dish--yum.
The desserts, however, were amazing. The chocolate torte was the best chocolate dessert I've ever had, and the cheesecake was amazing as well. The creme brulee trio was delicious, but the orange grand-marnier was by far the best of the three. We will be back, I'm certain.

Foodies from New York - LOVED this place. The food was excellent and the restaurant very comfortable. Service was great. All their meats and produce sourced locally and responsibly - a huge plus! Highly recommended.
8/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
The veal chop special was fantastic! Our friends also enjoyed the duck and chicken pot pie. The sides were a bit smaller than expected, but very good. Our server Arletta was friendly, too.

Went to Rustic House on a Wednesday night on a whim. Food was outstanding, the rack of lamb was cooked and seasoned perfectly.
Will most definitely be back sometime soon.

One of our favorite spots!

Great LIncoln Park find
The Rustic House offers an extensive wine list and a great variety of american fare in a quaint, romantic setting. great fish variety from which to choose.

Great service and the kitchen
Great service and the kitchen knows what they're doing. You won't be disappointed.
9/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
Had the NY strip and it was excellent. Also the risotto pork belly special was delicious. The lobster bisque was good but could have been thicker.
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was my first visit. Great service and great food. We were in a small group and passed around the spinach salad, grilled octopus, and risotto appetizers. All great. For a main course, the favorite seemed to be the veal cheek ragout, and New York strip. Nice atmosphere. Would definitely go again.

Hearty original fare
Had the rotisserie pork chop; huge and delicious. Friends had the scallops and swordfish chop. Both top notch. AHi tuna and grilled octopus appetizers were superb!

Gourmet dining in the hood
Outstanding menu; good wine list. Very good service--apart from a small wait at the end.(we had theater tickets.)

Food was great
Pretty quiet on a Tuesday night, but the food was outstanding. Definitely will be back.
9/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
We always like to try out new places that are "farm to table". Rustic House had a great menu that changed slightly from when I booked the reservation. Everything we tasted was outstanding! For appetizers we ordered, the Grilled octopus which was one of the best things I put in in my mouth. Along with the octopus we also ordered the tune tartar and the heirloom tomato salad. All of which were very outstanding. They had decent wines by the glass along with a nice bottle selection, we had wine by the glass. For the main course we had the rotisserie duck, Mahi Mahi, Salmon and the NY strip. All of the dishes were outstanding and put together with simple elegance with thoughtful seasoning instead of just over powering sauces and flavors.

Sophisticated food and great service! Very surprised and pleased. Will definitely return.

This place was wonderful! Very warm and cute setup. It was loud despite the small setting. This is a great place for a group of friends to get together. The food was terrific. We had the octopus salad, veal and prime rib. All were amazing! I will definitely be back.

Great First Time Dining Experience
My friends and I had not dined at Rustic House, but it wil not be the last time we dine there! Food was wonderful, service great -- attentive with not being overbearing --and the atmosphere was wonderful.
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
The cuisine and staff were outstanding.
We had three guests. Everyone was pleased with their selections.
The cured salmon was my personal favorite.

Upscale Cozy and Comforting
Ambiance is great - like what you WISH your dining room looked like. Fire place, soft lighting, elegant furniture.
Food was delicious. Comfort food done really well. I had the chicken pot pie and would definitely recommend. All the classic aspects of a chicken pot pie - but depth of flavor you don't normally get in the filling. Other members of the group had steak and were also delighted.
Good wine list by the bottle - reasonable mark ups.
10/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Pot Pie is AMAZING
Rustic House was awesome. I wish I could have sampled everything, but in the end the Pot Pie was simply amazing.
Will be back again and again.

First Time Won't Be Our Last!
I discovered Rustic House online, it had great reviews so thought we'd try it. We were there for an early pre-theater dinner, so we didn't experience the bar scene. It's in a lovely old building with lots of charm; the space is intimate, rustic and charming. Ryan, the managing co-owner, was our waiter. He was delightful and the service was outstanding. Menu has wonderful choices. I ordered a prix fixe meal (there were several options) of lobster bisque (one of the best I've ever had -- and this from a New England gal!), veal cheeks with pappardelle and a sinful chocolate cake (rich enough for the two of us to share) -- all beautifully presented. My husband opted for duck which was outstanding as well. Good selection of wines.

Hidden spot but worth the find
Really great choice before heading to the Steppenwolf. Everything was prepared perfectly from the arugula salad to the grilled salmon. Our desserts were heaven. Trio of creme brulees and a chocolate torte. WOW!
Also, I never see Vouvray (white wine) on menus and they had it. Had to have an extra glass. Just a super evening with excellent service. Would definitely return.
11/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had dinner at the bar and it was every bit a memorable evening. Thomas was behind the bar; his wine recommendations were perfect and his service was excellent. As usual the food was wonderful. Rustic House has become a MUST SEE stop for out of town friends.

Come to Chicago once or twice per month...wanted to find a a cozy quiet place to dine in Lincoln Park...found the ambiance, service AND delectable menu all at this neighborhood gem! My travel partner had their Red Swordfish -in one adjective - Extraordinary! The pumpkin cheesecake tasted like fresh pumpkin...the butternut squash soup - very creamy! Each entree is "a la carte", so it can get a bit price-y...but- the taste - exquisite! Great experience!
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
everyone in my party loved his or her entree so that was nice. I had the scallops with risotto and they were amazing. I was disappointed with my butternut squash soup but the mussel appetizers and other starters we had were great. Overall loved my experience but was disappointed with the proximity of tables within the restaurant. Even though I wouldn't call the noise level "energetic" I had to choose that because the tables are so close to one another you are definitely hearing everyone else's conversation. Skip the soup and enjoy the rest!

our friends R and J have recommended this spot for quite some time and we finally were able to try it. in a word: FANTASTIC!
