we really dug this place.
we really dug this place. great smells of smoke cooking, jazz background music, knowledgeable wait staff. All the meat items we tried were exceptional, amberjack fish too fishy tasting-only thin we didn't like The whole vibe of the place is like a little New York Gem
Definitely will be back, but not too often as the price point is higher than we are used to.
We had a guest and she was blown away with the whole experience.

Excellent food and service.
Interesting menu, excellent food and wine, very gracious service. A real addition to the neighborhood.

Last whole hog dinner.
We went to the last hog dinner. This was our third time for this meal along with several meals at the Friday seasonal dinners. We are sorry to see them go. Chef Chad always did an outstanding job.

Great find-- wonderful food!
Outstanding food and service!! Small, intimate restaurant with a great vibe. Service is friendly and professional. Very impressed!

Excellent if you're into house
Excellent if you're into house cured meats and expertly crafted terrines! We also enjoyed a great cut of pork from under the shoulder that was cooked to perfection! This place keeps the standard of the other two Osteria Mozza and Pizzeria Mozza establishments nearby. The tiramisu was also excellent and the first I really enjoyed (not the biggest tiramisu fan but I've tried it at a number of high end restaurants before!.

Great for chef watching
One of the best dinng experiences in LA we've had in many years. We sat a the counter ,and watched the chefs do their magic with pork, lamb, and short ribs. It was fun to ask them questions as they grilled. The quality of the meat was superior and made the meal. The space is small yet tavern esqu. I found no weaknesses , save that they did not have the tomahawk or the duck, and we were there a the opening. It would be nice to assure the presence of their signature dishes. Although we also love the osteria and pizzeria, chi spacca is the true gem of the 3 in this complex

Good food with large portions,
Good food with large portions, would suggest this restaurant for big groups that are very hungry.
Intamate family eating.

One of the best meals we have
One of the best meals we have had in Los Angeles in 25 years. The Diavolo chicken was moist and perfectly spicey and we can't stop talking about the olive oil cake!
Can't wait to go back

Excellent - go already!
We ate early so it might get noisier as the night progresses -- everything was delicious and fantastic. Service was excellent, this is now my favorite of the Mozza restaurants.
4/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Certainly the best salumi in LA , even better than Bestia. We also got the bisteca fiorentina (42oz). It was quite good, but not exceptional. (And for the price, we expected exceptional).
4/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
eat the meat
loved the platter of their cured meats-- affettati misti (no prosciutto this visit, though ;/) I tasted them and they were nice...
I got the pickles as my main appetizer... and the spumanti we had as the first drink was surprising and yum! I would want to have it at home :) In fact, that summarizes my visit here--definitely surprising and yum!
For the main course, we shared the beef and bone marrow pie... wowsers... I don't eat much wheat and meat due to health concerns, but this was worth eating :) The crust had the perfect balance of give and gently resistant texture...the meat/mushroom middle was balanced and wonderful savory...and the standing bone marrow in the middle made me smile.

We had a great experience
We had a great experience dining at chi Spacca. Everything from beginning to end was outstanding, including our appetizers, the entrees and desserts. And the service was friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

This is a tiny, cozy restaurant
This is a tiny, cozy restaurant with a limited menu. But what they do, they do really well. The chefs cook right in front of you, a little like being over at a friends place for dinner as opposed to a restaurant. One word of warning, much of their menu has pork in it.
4/26/2013 4:00:00 PM
Don't Miss This
Come hungry! Don't miss the lardo mantecato or the affettati misti, for starters. Stick around for one of the best entrees you'll ever have. Chef Colby is a master with meat. The Tomahawk Pork Chop is one of the best dishes ever to touch a plate. Great small venue for an intimate feel and the staff is impeccable, as you'd expect. Have never been even remotely disappointed in a meal within any of these Bastianich/Batali/Silverton restaurants. They know how to please customers.
4/26/2013 4:00:00 PM
My wife and I had our anniversary dinner here, along with two friends. The charceturie plate was astonishing. The steak florentine was sublime. The service was spot on. I was less than thrilled with the wine we had selected for us in the mid-level wine pairing. We got 4 glasses, 2 of which were 1/2 pours. Other than that it was perfect.
4/30/2013 4:00:00 PM
Some of the best food in LA
Had dinner here a month ago and couldn't wait to come back. Every course is exquisite. The chicken Diavolo was so good I had to have it again. So moist and spicey. The short ribs were tender and full of flavor. Don't miss the olive oil cake.
Can't wait to come back!

This place was amazing, the hostess was great, she loves what she does for a living. The chef was great too.
Love the 42 oz steak and the bread amazing.
5/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
Beef.... if you crave it.
This is the place to come to satisfy your meat eating desires. This is not the place to dine if you are looking for a vegan meal, or are overly worried about counting your calories. The emphasis here is on meat, and the chefs have it down to a science. Small, intimate dining room, excellent wait staff (exemplary service), was very impressed with the wine pairing they provided; all in all a restaurant I would heartily recommend.
5/12/2013 4:00:00 PM
the service and food were both excellent. The smell of the wood burning oven and the small intimate atmosphere really added to the experience. Being able to watch your food being prepared also added to the experience. All food choices were well prepared and very full of flavor. The waitress and staff were great at explaining the different menu options and organizing our choices into a well orchestrated meal. Only sorry the Mozza group of restaurants is not in NY and we only get to enjoy when we are in LA...Mario and Joe and Nancy...you did it again!! please add these amazing restaurants to your already great NY collection of restaurants....thanks for making a special night for my son's USC graduation even more special....

Best Place for Meat
Went above my expectations as well as the people I was dining with. I would recommend having a party no less than 4, but the place probably can't accommodate more than 6. With a party of four you can share and enjoy what they have to offer. The staff was friendly and super knowledgeable about the food. Not only are the knowledgeable, but excited about the food. I love this place. Wish I could afford to come here more often.

Tomahawk pork chop
I went in a group of 5 people at 6:45pm. The restaurant space is very small, 30 seats only. But this adds to the atmosphere bc there is less noise which enhances your own experience. We ordered the salumi plate, lardo bread, razor clams, baby kale salad, beef & bone marrow pie, butter beans, grilled cauliflower, tomahawk pork chop. Everything was so delicious. The pork chop was hands down amazing and fed all 5 of us. The only thing that was just ok were the razor clams which I felt were a bit overcooked (slightly too chewy). But even that did not bring down our dinner. All dishes have a lot of flavor and seasoning, so be prepared to have your taste buds stimulated. Highly recommended now before they start getting really slammed.

Great steak at a great price
We dined on the bistecca florentina at $175. I must say it was some of the best meat I have had in a long time and the left overs were wonderful The fried artichoke and its aioli sauce were a real delight as well. I will definitely be back for some of their other offereings.

Simply the best
Each of the threee courses I got was the finest presentation of that particular dish that I had ever experienced. The best pâté, the best sweetbreads, the juiciest and tastiest lamb. I only wish I'd gone with a larger group so I could've ordered and shared multiple dishes to sample more of the menu. The way the meats were prepared made each bite like drinking fine wine, savoring complex flavors that require nuanced appreciation. I was particularly impressed by the level of expertise in the butchery and grilling of the lamb.

Short ribs are the best. However
Short ribs are the best. However wish squash blossoms didn't have the riccotta too rich. But biggest wish is rice gelato on menu

Unbelievable. One of the best restaurants I have ever been to.

A Delicious Experience!
We absolutely adored our experience here. The small restaurant is ADORABLE. Like sitting in a comfy home library/kitchen except the bookshelves are lined with wine. It is casual, but completely upscale in it's approach. And the food? Holy mother! Incredible! The sampling of meats -- with pork butter included -- was certainly not great for our arteries, but made our hearts so happy. The meat pie was so rich and delicious. The artichoke was not the Roman experience we expected, but was its own unique and delicious treat perfectly complimented by a garlic aioli. And the apricot whatever-it-was-dessert? Divine! Seriously divine! The wine selection was incredible, and the wait staff provided impeccable service. Hands-down a new favorite in L.A.
6/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
Food was outstanding, per Gold's April review in the LA Times. The waiter was great, but the hostess needs some coaching. We wanted to use the 6" extension on the table, to be seated on the same side and the hostess was anything but gracious, throughout the 1.5 hrs spent.

Chad Colby is really doing
Chad Colby is really doing some wonderful things. His work with meat is unparalleled in Los Angeles today.

Very special dining experience.
Without doubt, our favorite restaurant in Los Angeles.
The food is prepared wonderfully with unique blends of flavor but the service is what makes this gem so special.
Fabulous wine list.
I strongly recommend this spot for a beautiful intimate dining experience where you'll feel most important.

Came here on a second date and couldn't be happier. Small and intimate, incredible food, and the service couldn't have been better. Had the focaccia, squash blossoms, creamed corn, some speck, some fennel salami, a great salad and the tomahawk porkchop... Everything was excellent. You can't go wrong here. Will definitely be back.

Delicious and satisfying
We really like fine dining and make a point of trying "all the best places." While nothing ranked as the best we'd ever eaten, all the food was very very good. The restaurant and the menu take a different approach to meats and we enjoyed sampling the offerings. The restaurant is very small - 9 tables - and the staff of 8 seem to take a team approach to taking care of diners. The service was informal, but we were well taken care of. We were pleased with the wine selection. We usually bring our own bottles, but not this time. The wine we were offered was consistently good, which is something I really can't say of most places. It wasn't cheap, but not horribly expensive, either. Loved the background jazz - we'll definitely come back!
7/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
great to the last drop
salumi specialists, and grilled meats were all outstanding, including all sauce. the vegetables were also amazing. the only thing mediocre were the desserts.
7/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food and service...
This place is small, warmly decorated and has a variety of unique opportunities to order incredibly favorable food items. The meat is terrific as are the sides, perfect for sharing. The staff are very down to earth and helpful when ordering. We want to return to try other items. We also enjoyed the selection of wine and the ability to order small carafes.. (Several :-)

Even BETTER than the hype!!
We loved every dish we had including the vegetables
Pork-Chicken-Fish all DELICIOUS!!
The entire staff was terrific-service excellent-it was like having all at your table-they all help one another
We felt like we were in someone's own kitchen because you could sense how proud the staff was

Food/Meat Lovers Paradise
The restaurant delivers on quality cuts and exceptional preparation. I will definitely go back. There are other things on the menu besides meat and those items are excellent as well. Endive salad, creamed corn, & roasted cauliflower were all divine. The lamb shoulder was exquisite. And, the cured meats & pâté were exceptional.
7/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Everything we had was fantastic
Everything we had was fantastic from the charcuterie plate to the homemade focaccia to the porcini-rubbed short ribs. Service was fantastic too, especially the host/maitre 'd (we were seated right next to the host stand and so she ended up helping us out quite a bit).
8/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Best dinner I have had in LA
Fabulous salad, steak (best ever), corn, potatoes, even the unique bread
9/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
If food had a soundtrack this is
Like a small jazz club, with a kitchen facing counter instead of booths. The food reflected the bebop jazz played in the background, fast tempoed, intricate flavors, and riffs on familiar themes like lamb and bone marrow.
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
A must go restaurant
Food was amazing. Cured meats are incredible and the steak was the best I've had in LA. Wine list is minimal but comprehensive and contains perfect italian wine pairings. The staff was professional, knowledgable and courteous. I can't wait to return.
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great place for carnivores!
The tiramisu was too boozy. There, I've given my only mildly negative comment about chi SPACCA. It's s terrific restaurant. The appetizer assortment, the lamb shoulder, the short ribs, the frittata, as well as the sides and fig & grape crostata were all fantastic. Can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu.

Amazing LA dining
Wow, this place was amazing. The focaccia is a must to try and the lamb, to die for.
Great imported wines, all come in carafes. Small, intimate and very special.
The effort that goes into creating these dishes is commendable.
We will definitely be dining again there soon.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food here is truly amazing -- the pure essence of the meat just melts in your mouth, and it's pure heaven for meat-lovers. Four of us dined and shared a number of dishes: the tomahawk chop; a "foccacia" that was like a buttery flaky "pizza" with a bit of baked-in cheese; the chacuterie plate with pork butter; and sides / dessert. We all agreed it was one of the best dinners we've ever had.
We can't rave enough about the tomahawk chop that came with the tenderloin already cut plus to huge ribs with meat. Both were amazingly flavorful with just a liberal touch of fennel and other seasonings that just enhanced the meat flavor. The ternderloin was tender enough to cut with your fork. The rib bones yielded succulent slices of pork.

Delicious Meat-centric Meal
We had a very early reservation on a Sunday evening, and for a bit we were the only people in the restaurant so it was pretty quiet but I can imagine it gets pretty noisy when full. It is very small, not many tables, plus a counter area in front of the open kitchen. Nice, warm ambiance. Our waiter was extremely helpful and gave a great explanation of the menu. I recommend the affetatti misti to share, the selection of their in-house cured meats and pates, etc. Then we shared the "Moorish" lamb shoulder, short ribs, cauliflower and the kale salad. Everything was delicious, perfectly cooked with great flavors, and good sized portions. They know what they are doing. Small but reasonably priced wine list.

Great food - Beef and Bone Marrow Pie
Great service - Veronica
Great atmosphere - A little loud, but who cares.
Fabulous. Will go back and will recommend.

Outstanding food & service
After discovering Mozza last year, we've been huge fans of Mario Batelli and Nancy Silverton. We had high expectations given the experience at Mozza, and chi SPACCA delivered. Not only from the attentive, knowledgeable servers, but the food was fantastic! The razor clams were unexpectedly tender and briny, and the pork was out of this world! If you are interested in nose to tail, you will surely love this place

Chi SPACCA rocks!
I am already a big fan of Mozza Osteria. Ate there for my Birthday last week and the waiter recommended their smaller
venue around the corner. Two friends and I went this week to try out Chi SPACCA and adored it. Small but well appointed,
with only 6 or so tables, soft lighting and an open kitchen. This is a carnivore's delight! We had the short ribs and the lamb shoulder, which were seasoned and cooked beautifully. Had the fennel and fried squash blossoms as sides and both
were great. Go with a few friends, share entrees and enjoy with a great Chianti as we did. Loved everything about
the place and will go back.
11/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
The best dining experience I have had in Los Angeles. Amazing Italian meats and sides with fabulous breads and delicious sides. On top of that, warm friendly service and great wines. It has the feel of a classy private dinner in a Tuscan home. A great place enhanced with 4 or more diners to enjoy their larger meat entrees. Not a spot for a vegan!

Best restaurant in Los Angeles
On every level, the dining experience is amazing. The quality of the food and preparation couldn't be better. With Chef Chad Colby at the helm, it's what I've come to expect.
