A Pasadena Gem
I have eaten at the Sunday Brunch as well as Dinner. While the menu appears to be a bit different, the items offered are well varied and very technical in their preparation. The restaurant is small and intimate. The food is very good!

This is one of my favorite
This is one of my favorite restaurants, the service is always excellent and they always remember me when I visit. That personal touch is very important to me as a customer. The food is amazing, although being a French restaurant, the portions aren't very big. Personally, I like it that way, but some people may feel turned off by that style. In addition to the food always being great, the presentation is beautiful as well.
I heartily recommend this restaurant for couples and for a romantic night out. For a guy's or girl's night out though, I would look elsewhere, as the ambiance of this place is more suited to couples.

Compliments to the Chef
One of our favorite restaurants in Pasadena. Their fish was outstanding. The whole meal was delicious - we had the fish of the day and the famous Chilean Sea Bass. We love the atmostphere - it's homey and very quiet, conducive for conversation.

Worthwhile quiet, touch of class
Food is inventive and the Asian influence overlaid with a light touch and food is neither overly rich nor salty. The dishes, pleasant enough, sometimes feel a bit dated. Overall, it is a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience. The service could use a bit of polish to refine it to match the food. Presentation of food is contemporary and nice. Desserts very good. Wine list okay nothing on it seemed stellar but the french burgogne pinot which sommeliere suggested was quite enjoyable

Superb, start to finish...decor,
Superb, start to finish...decor, food, service, ambiance. Our lovely French server added greatly to the experience...she was warm, charming, helpful [even speaking a bit of Japanese to my guests from Japan], and she smiled throughout. The evening could not have been more perfect.

Maison Akira is one of the
Maison Akira is one of the most famous foodie spots in Pasadena. We had one of its pre-fixe menus with wine pairing. The Snake River Farm Waygu beef was quite good. The ambiance is a bit old school, and towards the end of our meal, the staff were busy folding tables and moving chairs... They should at least wait until the customers to leave to do that. I thought the food was good, but the staff weren't that professional.

10 Course Meal
Excellent as usual, especially the 10 course meal!

Prix Fixe Menus Highly Recommended
Can't say enough about the prix fixe menus at Maison Akira (at their ".net" site). We live in the SF Bay Area and have had 2 wonderful five-course+ dinners there in last 6 months. The food is very creatively presented, often in unique combinations, fresh, plentiful, and a great value for the money. Chef Akira Hirose often visits each table. He has a fascinating background that his food always showcases.
5/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Best in the menu is the ability to order regular/small servings of most if not all offerings vs the messy business of sharing.

Perfect for dinner before
Perfect for dinner before going to the Pasadena Playhouse.

Excellent food and quality
Excellent food and quality much more than I expected from the price for the course that we ordered, so happily surprised.
Attention to details but not too trying too much being "different" like some of newer restaurants.
Very elegant and quit space, able to enjoy conversation with friends.
This restaurant reminded us what great French food and restaurant should be; elegant, yet feel at home. I recommend for any special occasions to share with people you care.

Food was awesome as usual
Food was awesome as usual and Chef Akira came out to greet us which was so special. There was four of us and it was 100% that the food and service was spectacular! And the wine too! What a classy place...
I was also there a week earlier with 7 of us for dinner and had the same wonderful experience!
6/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
The most notable part of our meal was the impeccable service. Before we even ordered, our waiter was seeing if he could get us another table with less walk-by traffic (we didn't ask). It almost seemed like we had our own personal staff of servers and noone was intrusive. I do think that they do not need to keep filling our water glasses quite so much.
6/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
We enjoyed every aspect of Maison Akira ... wonderful service, delicious food, friendly staff and in the top few exceptional dining experiences for us!
6/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
Softly lit, this restaurant is a lot bigger than it initially appears from the outside. Quiet, spacious and elegant, it is perfect for actually conversing with the people you go out with. There is an amazing selection of high quality sea food. The Chilean sea bass just melts in your mouth. If you want to try a bit of everything, the bento box is a great option. I was a huge fan of the tuna tartare. For dessert, I recommend the vanilla ice cream with fresh fruit and fancy candied caramel dome. My sister's a vegetarian and loved the vegetables gratinee. Overall, we were very impressed with our dining experience. Great ambience, service and food.

1st Time Brunch - Delicious!
Everything at Maison Akira was well-thought out, and not overdone. Friendly greeting at the door, excellent service that did not intrude but took care of every need; clean, rich, old-school decor; but the highlight is definitely the food. Tasty bites with just enough so that your palate isn't overloaded; fantastic pairings of flavors you would never think to put together yourself. Our waitress even offered to bring us cups of the soup, that we missed, and we are so glad she did. Fresh sushi, vibrant salads, prime cuts of meat - all absolutely delicious. All in all, a very sublime experience. It was lovely to see the chef, Akira Hirose, behind the carvery station at brunch - he was part of the experience. We would definitely return again.

Always wonderful food and service
I have been coming here for years and the food is always wonderful and unique. The service is superb. The environment is cozy and pleasant.

The soft shell crab appetizer
The soft shell crab appetizer was delicious. Not overly breaded, served with eggplant and a spicy sauce over wasabi mashed potatoes. The miso glazed chilian seabass was exellent as usual. I had the vegetarian plate which was good but not overly flavorful.

Great as usual!
I tried the dineLA special which includes the Wagyu beef and the soft shell crab tempura. Both are cooked to perfection. The soft shell crab was delicious and crispy, and the wagyu beef are to die for. The almost perfect night was topped with delectable Valhorna chocolate brule with candied pineappl garnish was a welcome surprise. Coffee was delicious. Why I said "almost"... the bread can be a bit fresher. The service was very attentive, except when the meat dish arrived , the steak knife should be provided but I gave them the benefit of a doubt because it was quite a hectic night for them (the last day of dineLA). Would definitely come back for more, maybe for Menu Rabelais or Epicurian?

GOOD< GOOD< GOOD
We love dining at Maison. My friend has been out of the country for most this last year. Having dinner there on our first outing was a no-brainer.

A quiet, easy place to talk,
A quiet, easy place to talk, with interesting French-Japanese fusion. We went during Restaurant Week, and had a 3 course wine pairing, Really nicely handled and the food was just the right amount. Excellent service!

You are never too old to enjoy
I took my 88 year old father and his 88 year old "girlfriend" there to celebrate their birthdays. From the first sip of Kir Royal to the apple tart and cherry compote for desser they were enthralled. Fine food, service, and ambience.

Hidden Gem in Pasadena
Wonderful experience, fantastic service and very creative food, highly recommend and I am a foodie !

A quiet gem
This restaurant has everything you could want for a beautiful evening out with friends or just your special loved one. The place is quiet and elegant with tables separate from others. The restaurant is separated into smaller rooms which makes the place cozy and quiet. The food is truly outstanding. The chef understands how to cook simple french dishes with an asian flair that are perfect. I had a tempura battered soft shell crab that was incredibly light, crunchy and just with that perfect sweet crab taste. The duck breast was cooked to a perfect rosy hue. I have not had such a delicate tuille (for dessert) since we were in France. I am sorry I had not discovered this place sooner!

Food was really delicious. I already want to go back to try something different.
8/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
One of the best restaurants I have been to (and I have been to over 500). Go for one of the tasting menus and give yourself a minimum of two hours to enjoy, as you would with all true fine dining experiences.
9/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food & ambiance!
Pleasantly greeted at the door (and later at our table) by Chef Akira--nice surprise! Appetizer of red snapper sashimi was beautifully plated and delicious. The signature miso-glazed Chilean sea bass was moist and perfectly flavored--enjoyed by 3 in our group. The Grand Marnier souffle was light and airy--the perfect ending to a wonderful dining experience! Service was excellent! Our party of 6 thoroughly enjoyed the food, ambiance, oh, and chocolate truffles to complete our evening. Thank you Chef Akira!
9/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
A lovely dinner with wxcallent taste pairings and very reasonably priced options on the wine list. Top notch service and friendly.
Definitely order the grand marnie souffle.

Great Evening at Maison Akira
We had a wonderful experience at Maison Akira. This a a great restaurant for those wanting a excellent, relaxed dining experience where you can actually talk to your dining companions. While the service is refined and the noise level low, the food is innovative and terrific.
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Visited Maison Akira during the week. It was VERY quiet and not very busy. However, the food was superb (duck and fish). Although, the owners apparently did some renovations recently, the overall ambience is still somewhat sparse, especially when there are few other diners. Will visit again on the weekend when it probably is a bit more lively.
9/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
I've been to Maison Akira before, and each time I am always impressed with the quality of the amazing food. My wife and I agree that this is our favorite restaurant in LA. It serves up class, value and great tasting food. Its focus is Japanese/French style, so you get the delectable sashimi, plus you can have perfectly cooked steak with potatoes, albeit wasabi mashed potatoes, that are so delicious. Everything is meticulously presented and leaves you very happy with each bite. If you have not been, you must try this restaurant.
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had the epicurean menu.
We had the epicurean menu. We liked the tastings menu but didn't want to deal with 15 courses. The epicurean menu provided several courses, all tasty. Most important, it was a well-paced service --not too fast and not too slow. My dinner partner, a Manhattan resident, described it as "the perfect choice". The glass of champagne she had cost $25 which seems excessive. The dinner at $70, food only, was well worth it.
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Always try the specials!
Had the beef special for two and couldn't stop taling about how great it was. We noticed bouillabaisse on the menu so went back the next night. So good!
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
We've been to Maison Akira three times over several years for special occasions, and it has been wonderful every time. Food, service and ambience are perfect. I wish I could afford to go here more often, but then it wouldn't be so special. I've been for both dinner and sunday brunch and loved both.
9/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
everything was delicious. sushi, salads, great wasabi. Needed four glasses of water. Prime rib, lamb, and salmon delicious. Best potatoes and side dishes. What a desert table. Did not expect such a good brunch. Will be back. Over at 2:00 but we sat till 3;00 pm and no one hurried us out.

Excellent First Time Experience.
My wife and I were looking for a great restaurant to celebrate our joint birthdays in a quiet romantic way. A good friend recommended Maison Akira for the great cuisine and it's quiet elegance. I must say we were not disappointed. The food was excellent and the service was excellent as well. Our waiter, Sergio, took care of us, and we a cheerful smile. Cristina made sure we were happy as well. We were surprised and delighted when Chef Akira came and introduced himself. We'll be back for sure.

Must Go Restaurant
One needs to experience dining at this restaurant, if you haven't yet. Chef Akira creates excellent dishes. Recently, we tried the six course menu and it was wonderful. Maison Akira is always our first choice.
10/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
This is our fourth time at this restaurant and we loved it just as much. In celebration of their 15th anniversary, they offered two prix fixe menus in addition to their regular menu. Both menus looked great, but we went for the smaller 6 course wine pairing menu, plus amuse bouche, after which we felt stuffed enough. Very delicious, creative and unusual, as always! We also got to meet Chef Owner Akira. He was very interesting to chat with. He spent 8 years cooking in France! This place never disappoints.

Maison Akira in Pasadena - Superb!
Every member of the staff was well-trained, incredibly efficient, knowledgeable, engaging and courteous.
It was a very special dining experience, and most certainly recommend it for anyone looking for a quiet dining experience in Pasadena, with fine rooms, incredible food and thoroughly enjoyable on all other fronts.
My first visit, and for a very special occasion to boot, but certainly not my last.
10/21/2013 5:00:00 PM
A couple of friends and I attended Sunday brunch the past weekend and were very satisfied with the quality of the food and service. Personally, I think I will come back another time in the future.
10/26/2013 5:00:00 PM
I recommend you sunday brunch. The brunch has lamb stake and sushi, those are the best in this Pasadena area.

Interesting and very good menu with lovely presentation. Delightful ambiance and good, well paced service. Quiet, intimate and calming. Delicious food and would highly recommend for a quiet leisurely meal.

large and small plates--excellent
We were very glad that the menu has expanded lately with large and small dishes to fit any size stomachs and preferences. The food had great flavor and was excellent.
11/12/2013 4:00:00 PM
What a feast!
This is the second time we came here for sunday brunch of Japanese-French style food. Make sure to come here early so the meat quality is much better. Choose wise and do not stuff yourself with sushi rice so that you won't miss the chance to taste a variety of beautiful items lining up on the dessert table and wonderful tasty fruit. Not a bad deal for bottomless juice and a great feast on Sunday for less than 40 dollars a person in Pasadena,
11/16/2013 4:00:00 PM
Excellent service, quiet table, the Maison Akira name was epitomized by the Japanese receptionist and the French waitress, both most pleasant and helpful. Menu items all very good for all four of us, and wine list also excellent, and as a special plus the sommelier decanted the fine old bottle of Burgundy we brought and it was delicious.
