Still great but a little less.
We both order the Cioppino. We were there about two months ago and ordered the same thing. The Cioppino sauce was fantastic and to die for! This time I saved some and brought it home. I will get some fresh clams and shrimp, saute them and then add the sauce and have it for dinner tonight.
However, The sauce.........this time it was a littl too spicy. Both my friend and I thought it was too spicy. Maybe too much hot sauce, the spicyness just wasnt quite right for us.
For desert, we had the lemon torte which was part of the Price Fixe dinner. It came from an Entenmann's box. It wasnt made for them or made there on site.

Old SF, a Treat for SV Residents
After spotting this historic building with glassed in porch and neatly set tables while doing business in this out of the way light industrial area, our interest was piqued. Months later we decided to visit OCH for lunch on the way to the Asian Museum (coming from Palo Alto). We enjoyed the old SF atmosphere and the lunch. Very fresh mussels are hard to find, but the ones at OCH were the best I have had in years. No off odor or flavor. Our waitress said that mussels are delivered daily. The preparation and garlic butter dip was delicious. Shared a chocolate mousse which was great.

I am so glad that the Old
I am so glad that the Old Clam House from my youth has returned. We used to go for a special occasion when i was a kid. the new revamped Clam House is worth multiple trips. We have had several celebrations there.
the food is excellent! the salads are delicious. the fish top notch. a simple dish like fish and chips is made excellent by the light nongreasy batter used in addition to the delicate light fish used.
my shrimp scampi - delicious.
server was yvette - engaging, attentive, great server!

A new "old gem"
The new Old Clam House does a great job serving excellent food. The ambience is especially good for groups and the who;e restaurant is certainly a neighborhood gem. The wait staff needs to be more professional. They do a fair job but too many people get involved in serving a party at a location. It would be far better if one waiter served the table and stop all the "extras". When did it become normal to have a series of waiters and busboys service a single station? It doesn't work very well at the Clam House and the place isn't that big that it becomes necessary. Still, I would certainly come back and I plan too do that.

Decent Solid hangout
Went on a Wednesday night and it had a lively dining hall and nicely grill shrimp and mussels at a decent price. Ciopino is another gem and though I would like to see a bit more variety of fish choices besides salmon, halibut and basa, I would visit again just for their fundamentals.
Another downside is the neighborhood is relatively bleak and really nothing else around. Recommend to come for an early dinner/drinks.

Mother's Day at the Old Clam House
This was my first vist although this is one of the oldest restaurants in San Francisco. The service was good, the food was fresh and the dining experience enjoyable. This is one of those old gems and I am glad I found it.
I had the clams and they were very fresh and delicious. One of my dinner guests had the 1/2 crab and flavor was good but she thought the portion was small. We sampled three desserts: chocolate mousse cake, tiramisu and strawberry cheesecake. The 3 desserts were outstanding, especially the tiramisu.

The Old Clam House
Went to The Old Clam House restaurant for lunch and it was not what I expected. The restaurant does not look like much on the outside, but on the inside it was done beautifully. The decor was beautiful.
I and two friends, wanted to try this restaurant, so we decided lunch would be good to start with. We all ordered different things, ( fish and chips, crab enchilada and mussels) and each meal was absolutely delicious.
My only complaint, is that the service was very slow, (could be I only saw two servers) and it took a long time to get our food. Also, I ordered a salad first, that came with entre and not on it's own. Aside fro the service, it was a great dining experience.

Old School San Francisco Charm
Great historic location with really good food. Very charming with a friendly staff. Kid friendly and plenty of food for all.

I love this restaurant. nice
I love this restaurant. nice to see it come back to life!! i am definitely going to return again.

I took my parents to dinner here on a Friday evening, we sat on the covered patio. The service was good, we were sat promptly, the server was attentive, brought us our food and drinks in a timely manner. I had a Calamari Steak Dore, which was very well battered. It had just the perfect layer of egg coating on a well prepared fish. The Calamari itself was prepared in a piccatta sauce. I am not a huge fan of capers, but I just took those off and the sauce blended well with the overall dish. Not greasy, not dry, just right. The dish came with a cup of New England clam chowder and that too was very tasty. The overall design of this place appears to have been recently updated. It looks nice.

I wish this restaurant can
I wish this restaurant can serve more diffrent shrimp dishes.

Service beyond belief
Okay, it's biased. My flight into SFO was very late, and I called them and told them I would have to cancel my reservation. They instead offered to stay late, and I got to enjoy the absolute best cioppino I've ever had in my life. Being the only person in the restaurant, the waitstaff were very friendly and chatty, great way to decompress after a cross-country flight. I'll be back every time I'm in town.
6/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
It was my first time here eating. The food was great and our server was super nice! Kid-friendly! My kids had a great time there.
6/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
We love the Old Clam House. There was a time when we went weekly. The food is excellent and the variety truly something. Fresh salads with artisan cheese, Strauss family creamery butter, Acme bread. But also plenty of deep fried goodness. Service can be slow, however.
6/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food, good service, bad hairs
Overall good experience but charts are small uncomfortable and seem almost wobbly. Commented by three in a group of 4. Food very good service good and nicely refurbished with the. Noted exception.
6/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
The Old Clam House was great!! I went there on the recommendation of a friend. The clam juice and bread is very tasty and I had not experienced clam juice served like this before. The food was terrific. I eat out frequently and am rarely excited about what I have but this was a new and different experience. The crab enchillada was perfect - not your typically latino enchilllada. The side of ?quinoa with dried tomato was wonderful. For dessert we split a tiramisu which was equally spectacular. I'm going back soon!!

A San Francisco tradition
Not all good seafood restaurants in the City by the Bay are "by the bay": The Old Clam House, founded in its same location in 1861, the year Lincoln was inaugurated, stands to attest to this fact. (However, it was ON the bay when it was originally built!) You sit in the spacious bar (original back bar) or in an adjacent, quieter dining room. First thing: hot clam juice in a large shot glass! The chowder here is good, and the calamari "prix fixe" dinner a real treat. Wth the PF dinner, you can order a dessert for only $1.95 ($7.95 regularly). We'll make an effort to return. Servers were 100% helpful. Many celebratory groups were there on a recent Sunday night.

Breakfast menu is very good
Breakfast menu is very good with many tasty selections.
Miles is an excellent bartender and Marlon a very charming host/server.
I will be back.

great spot to eat pre-game
Great place to eat before heading over to the ballpark. Fish and chips were excellent, madw with white basa. Serving size is enough to share. Great wines.
7/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
OMG what a change!
We live nearby and have tried this place over the past 25 years. New owners ups and downs mostly down. Now a new owner and everything has changed! We all loved everything. The food, the server and the place. You must try it for yourself.
7/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Cioppino is amazing, fish
Cioppino is amazing, fish and chip is huge, and fried calamari is crisp yet tender inside,,,

New and Improved Favorite
My wife and I visited the Old Clam House due to its convenient location the other evening. We had not been there in a few years and were very pleased to find a pleasing interior make-over. Menu still had old favorites and updated offerings as well. Drinks, wine and food (which was most tasty and ample) were very reasonably priced. Good service and new HD TV's in bar/dining area added to a wonderful visit. We'll be back!
7/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
It's been a long time since
It's been a long time since I was at the Old Clam House. I saw a diner review the restaurant on PBS/KQED Check Please and decided to dine there. My granddaughter ordered the steamed c,ams, I ordered the prix fixe calamari steak dore. Both were excellent. The price for a dessert was 2.95 with a prix fixe and we loved the tiramisu. I would go back to Old Clam House if planning a dinner out.
8/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was a great spot that has been at this same location for a long time. The food was delesh!. I had the Louie Salad with crab for two and it was so good I came back to eat the same thing a week later. The drinks are worth the price. My favorite thus far.... The Cucumber martini. A must try!
8/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
I had not been here for many years but this is now my 2nd time in a couple of months. I forget about it because of the location but its really worth being a regular stop. The service is excellent and so is the food. We shared calamari, the large ciopinno and a salad. It was enough for 3 and very tasty. Wine by the glass is a generous pour and reasonable ( mine was $8/glass) and you'd pay twice that much downtown and get 1/2 the amount.
This restaurant is a must for seafood lovers and street parking is EZ!
8/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was excellent i resisted licking every dish, we will return soon when we desire seafood or pasta. so much better than our last visit which had kept us away awhile.
8/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Gotta try it
First time, and very happy. Had the crab enchiladas. Just wonderful sauce.
8/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Took our friends to the Old Clam House for their 35th. Mixed party of young adults and us from the olden days. I first when there as a young adult and could not believe my friend that there was a good restaurant in that section of town. I also could not believe it has been there since the 1800's.
We sat at the outer room with large window facing west/south west. I jokingly called it the scenic view. During dinner I was proven correct as the lighting show in the distance was quite a sight..
We shared the hot sizzling plate of grilled sea food. It smells great and is a treat. For the main course I had the clams. The broth has very good flavor but I was expecting larger claims.
Excellent evening. Teat yourself.
8/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Their hot skillet seafood platters are amazing and they have the best ciopino and clam chowder (bread bowl) in San Francisco!
8/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Just what we wanted!
Had some LA friends visiting and wanted to take them to a memorable restaurant. They rented a house near Cesar Chavez, so the Old Clam House was the right location. Turns out, everything was right! The food was better than ever, the booth and room so charming and we could hear each other's conversations! What a home run! We ordered a salad to share, a large bouillabaisse and the double shrimp/double roasted crab iron plate. YUM!
They loved it, even put the restaurant name in their cellphone to remember it.
Glad we picked it.
8/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Go to place
Being from Boulder, CO anytime I go to the Bay area this is my go to place to get my crab fix.
8/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Place to Hang Out!
We have been going to the clam house regularly. The food is delicious, the drink are amazing and inexpensive and the ambiance and staff are great! We are trying to try as much as we can from the menu and have yet to be disappointed! The staff is welcoming and know how to make us feel special.... especially since they practically know us now. Thanks for the good times!
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
We like taking out-of-town visitors here to see an "old San Francisco" landmark. The food is always good. Our server was new but knew the menu well and made helpful recommendations. The fried calamari appetizer was good. The sand dabs in butter caper lemon sauce, crab alfredo, fish and chips, and calamari steak dore were all enjoyable. The tiramisu was excellent. We were placed in the usually pleasant side porch area. We should have requested to be relocated to the dining room or bar as a large party next to us was very loud, and smoke from inconsiderate smokers outside entered through an open window. Next time (and there will be a next time) we'll take better care of ourselves.

Stepping Back Into Time
Restaurants come and go so it is really great to know that the Clam House is still around serving great meals. Every dish was tasty. It was great for the young adults trying to recogonized the various San Francisco locations from the old time pictures. The service was great. All the employees were very friendly and helpful. Thank you to all.

Great Food. Excellent Service
We celebrated my dad's birthday. There were 8 of us and we had a reservation. The table was ready when we got there. Service was top notch. Food was fantastic. Everyone woo-and ahh over roasted crabs, mussels, clams, cioppino. The table was kind of narrow to hold all the food, plates and glasses, but it's probably because we ordered too much. Thank you for a great time.

cool without trying too hard...
in a city full of pretentious restaurant this old timey gem is a refreshing change. the food is good, the ambiance is very nice and it never feels like hipster overkill. i always get the steamed mussels and have had both thanksgiving (so good) and christmas dinner there. i just love this place...it's old san francisco.

The Old Clam House
Great Restaurant! Convenient location right off the highway with free parking. Large menu, was hard to decide! Good, quick service. Greeted with warm clam juice which was surprisingly good. Shrimp & mussels where fresh & tasty. Calamari was perfect. Old photographs of SF decorate the walls. Different bottles of hot sauce on each table which I love. Will be back to try several other dishes!!
10/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Nice people at the Clam house, just had my bday dinner there and the staff was very patient and accommodating. Our party took forever to put in our order (we talk a lot) and the wait staff didn't pressure us. The food is good - it's not 5-star Michelin, but it's tasty and a good value. I only had a bad piece of fish once and they cheerfully comped my dinner. There's no corkage fee so if you bring your own wine it's an ever better value - We did order cocktails though so as not to squeeze all the profit out of the restaurant - they've been there since 1861, I don't want them to go out of business just because I'm stingy about buying wine ha ha

One of the oldest restaurants in SF
This restaurant has a fun history and delicious food. I crave the warm clam broth they give you when you arrive and love the sand dabs. My husband's ordered many delicious things, but I have to order their delicious sand dabs every time.

Old time Clam House
We miss the bar of 40 years ago where the tables were oriented on a 5 deg tilt & U could C large cracks in the wooden floor. Super place with many cosmetic upgrades & the food remains the same: Superb!
We are San Franciscans.

Not located in the best spot...but
Not located in the best spot...but often that's where many of the great restaurants hide. I was surprised how packed it was! Charming place. Great service! Crab enchilada was heavens....,two pounds of crab! Thick clam chowder! Bread served with warm clam juice.
11/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
This place never fails. This place is great for when you craving seafood such as dungeness crab, ciopinno etc and dont want to deal with the Fishermans Wharf traffic. Food is right up there with the best of San Francisco restaurants. The noise level is perfect. You can have good conversation and hear each other. .a must for me.
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
We made reservations for a special occasion and had a fabulous time and the best service ever! Will definitely go again!
11/16/2013 4:00:00 PM
Wanted it to be better
Nice old place with some recent updates. The clam juice brought with the bread was the best thing we had that night. Both of our dinners could have used a lot more flavor and was was over priced. The wine list was decent, but served way to cold. Still deciding if we would go there again.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
We had another tasty dinner at the Old Clam House, however, we noticed both the regular and cocktail menus had changed. I miss several of the old cocktails, but the real disappointment was the food menu was cut back, with fewer choices. For those looking for a lot of variety, this may surprise you. It also made feeding my kids a little harder than I had planned when we decided to go. We will be back, but probably not as often since the variety has fallen.
They still have the best clam chowder I've had since we left Boston.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
Clam Chowder was Excellent.. Crab Alfredo was suberb !!! Was disappointed how ever of the entrees that there wasn't lots of Steaks & Chicken items. Our waiter told us the menu was downsized from the week before & thought that he was kidding. I was really more into meat items especially something differnet from Turkey !!! I'll probably go back again to try something different.
11/27/2013 4:00:00 PM
We've driven past the Old Clam House and said to each other "let's go there" so many times - it's embarrassing - so when we saw that they were open on Thanksgiving - that was it and what a happy confluence of happenstance - it's a wonderful old SF restaurant serving delightful seafood dishes - this is the real thing.
11/27/2013 4:00:00 PM
The holiday menu was great. Went there because they were also serving regular menu so I liked the choice. But, the Holiday menu was wonderful, very traditional. Seasonings were just right and the portions were huge so that we actually had leftovers to take home - one of the nice things about Thanksgiving. Didn't expect that bonus from eating out.
Some folks had ordered from the seafood menu and it all looked terrific. Will definitely go back.
