Wonderful service, great waitstaff,
Wonderful service, great waitstaff, and amazing food! The host, Ted, was especially adorable, and our waitress had all the right recommendations for wine, food, etc. Overall a very pleasant experience. Perfect date night!

love their food! I always want everything on the menu, but the spaghetti is not to be missed!

Great start to a Friday night.
We were late for our reservation and in a hurry once we got there. The staff treated us graciously and brought our food promptly so that we made our show on time. My only regret is that we didn't have more time to linger over the food and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere, so BE ON TIME!
7/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
WHY WERE WE WAITING?
Our party arrived at 7:40p for our 7:45p reservation. We were told our table was not ready, and the apology was perfunctorily offered in passing. Finally, at 8:03 we were taken to our table. After we were seated, the food and service were amazing and exactly what we expected, but the fact that they were so dismissive about our wait made us wonder what was the point of having a reservation?

How To Cook A Wolf
This diamond in Ethan Stowell's Crown, is an exceptional restaurant. The service was fantastic, friendly, and professional. The food was incredible, carefully prepared with outstanding flavors. I will return here again and again as it is consistently wonderful.

I love How to Cook a Wolf!
Delicious, interesting, creative food. Beautifully presented. Lots of small plates. Gracious, intelligent, knowledgeable service. This is everything I love in a restaurant. One of my very favorite restaurants in Seattle!
7/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Awesome as always.
The staff is extremely attentive, interesting and charismatic. Half of my awesome experience was interacting with them! The food was awesome as always, the perfect price and variety for a nice evening.

How to Cook, Period,
I've had my eye on this place since moving to Seattle a few years ago, but being able to try it proved a tough feat given the surplus of devoted HTCW diners. Finally our moment came this summer when we were able to step inside the quaint, inviting open-barrel structure that delineates the dining room from the bar and draws the diner's eye to the light coming in through the open windows at the front along the sidewalk. The food is everything that's making the pacific northwest dining scene splash right now, with its ability to incorporate locally derived foods into smart dishes by ballasting this simple, earthy element with an exploration of preparations -- flavors, sauces and broths -- that lift these dishes into the realm of the unique.

Great food! We had a fabulous meal and our waitress was super! Cant wait to go back:)

Great place. But I gotta find
Great place. But I gotta find a way to get full at restaurants like this. When I see "pork loin" I'm thinking at least 1/2 inch slabs, not less than 1/8th inch. Amazing taste, but left hungry. Hard to get that, "I've finished dinner" feeling. I'm not from Seattle, and I'm used to getting FOOD at a restaurant. Still in all, I'll be back.

On a vaca back home I wanted to show my girlfriend what Seattle food is all about so I took her to two of Ethan's places, How to Cook a Wolf and Staple and Fancy. We went with my father who is in a wheel chair and it was very easy for him to get around for those who need this info. We had several small dishes, the hamachi was mind blowing, and you know youre in for a treat when you see how good the simple bread and olive oil is. The bartender may be the true star at HTCAW and I strongly urge anyone to do the bartenders choice cocktail. I promise he'll do a better job choosing your drink than you can. The cocktails truly are special. We then had two pasta dishes split between 3 people and they were fantastic, Highly recommended!
8/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food and service were outstanding. I really enjoyed the Hamachi Crudo and the pork belly with peaches. Their Tagliatelle reminded me how great a good pasta and sauce can be. Also, amazing dessert, though the Industry Sour could have been a bit more sour. Overall fantastic, check it out!

No Wolf, but great food
Finally made it over to HTCAW after a couple year living in Queen Anne. The restaurant is small inside which makes it hard to get a reservation, but is worth it. The small plates make it fun to try a few different dishes. The beets with horseradish dish was great. The pasta was pretty amazing.

Ethan Stowell at his finest
Great little restaurant with a few outdoor tables during the summer. Very decent selection of wines by the bottle (mostly Italian). We had the pork belly, the tagliatelle, and the risotto. The pork belly was fabulous, and the portion is more than enough for two. I loved the fresh pasta and the right balance of acidity in the tagliatelle. The risotto was good, but next time I'll try something else.
8/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
Had wondered about the hype for this resturant. It's a place for foodies...our meal was okay, but we believe it was because we ordered some very rich items which were a little over the top. Willing to go back now knowing the menu.
8/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
great way to end vacation
Dinner sunday night was special, relaxed, delicious and the service was excellent. All the dishes we chose were excellent, but our favorite was the hamachi collar. Megan was a great server...able to answer all our questions about ingredients and made us feel at home. We'll be back at the end of next vacation!

Overall, we enjoyed our experience
Overall, we enjoyed our experience at HTCAW very much. The restaurant is lovely and the food was delicious (especially the swordfish and risotto). The only unfortunate part of the experience, and sadly this isn't the first time I've had this happen at an Ethan Stowell restaurant, was that even after having made a reservation weeks in advance, we had to wait half an hour for a table.

Best Restaurant in Seattle!
I was here in Seattle on vacation from Brooklyn and spent our last night having dinner at the Wolf and being from Brooklyn where the food is pretty amazing, this place blew my mind. The food was incredible and the service was exceptional. You can not go wrong with anything on the menu. I will be back when i visit Seattle again.

Want for Good Food, Don't Miss Wolf
The family style eating allowed the four of us to really experience and lot of spectacular dishes. All of Ethan Stowell's restaurants are fabulous.

How to Cook a Wolf
This was an awesome experience. We loved every moment.
8/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food is good
The food is pretty good i both tasting and presenting.
But it seems very noisy. Sitting is very close to adjacent table that you can even listen to what other peoples talk.

Seth provided an overall excellent
Seth provided an overall excellent experience - best food, ambience, service of our Pacific Northwest swing through SEA/PDX (and the competition was stiff). We highly recommend How To Cook A Wolf.

Small place, get a reservation!
Arrived 15 min earlier than my reservation, but was seated promptly. Ordered roasted beets appetizer and we shared spaghetti and anchovies and ravioli and chantarelles. Had panna cotta dessert. Everything was really good. Had a great time!

Not to be missed
This is quickly becoming my favorite Seattle restaurant. The food is amazing, I don't know how they create such incredible flavors with ingredients I've never even heard of, but the result is excellent. We brought our adult children here during a rare occasion when they were both home visiting, and I'm so glad we did!
9/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great spot for foodies
Good food, wine and service. Will certainly return!
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Overall my experience at How to Cook a Wolf was exquisite. The food and ambiance were perfect for a romantic evening with my girlfriend. The menu had been carefully crafted and featured a wide array of choices. The portions were nicely sized and we left feeling full but not stuffed. The only downside to our experience was the service. Even though we had a reservation we waited in the doorway for 10 minutes before I begged for water. Once we were seated, after a 30 minute wait, we then sat for another 10-20 minutes before our waitress acknowledge our existence. I understand that this is a very small venue and in no way did I expect to have food arrive the moment I sat down, but I would have at least expected to be acknowledged.

Best Meal in Seattle
Hands down this is the best meal I had in Seattle. You must order the gnocchi- it is unreal!
9/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Not your average Italian food!
What a treat. The food here was definitely amazing. I came in a group of 4 and we had a difficult time agreeing on what to order because we all wanted to try so many different items. We were ambitious and ordered 7 small plates and 2 pastas. The amount of food was just about right, with a little to spare. (We were quite hungry...)
The small plates and pastas are familiar, but at the same time very creative. Standouts included the Spaghetti (the anchovy with garlic and chili really gave it a punch) and the Brick Chicken (don't underestimate this; the tenderness from the extra pressure, with the buttery Chanterelles is a heavenly combination).
Also, the staff was super friendly and helpful. Their menu advice was spot on.

A nice little restaurant
I visited this restaurant with my girlfriend while on a business trip. It is a nice small little restaurant in neighborhood. All the dishes are shared and the food was wonderful.
9/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
favorite ethan stowell restaurant
we always have great food here. amongst all ethan stowell restaurants (we've dined in all of them many, many times) this is our favorite. in the past, they had hamachi crudo, the best i've ever tasted. over years, it's started to converge to be the same as his other restaurants (some menu items are the same,) and it's now harder to find the dish with simple, a few ingredients mixed together, that once you taste you really admire genius, but it's still great food.
10/4/2013 5:00:00 PM
Loved the food, not the noise level
Excellent fresh tasting food plates - interesting combinations, savory salads. High quality pasta and sauces. However, it was hard for us to talk over the noise level when someone at another table laughed or spoke too loudly. The surfaces in the restaurant are acoustically harsh. Service was excellent, timely, and personalized (sincere).
10/7/2013 5:00:00 PM
Great little place to eat.
Make a reservation. Very small place. Food was excellent and service is great. Can't remember the last time I said that. Price was very fair
10/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Little Place.
This is a wonderful little spot that gets it right in every respect. The stylish décor and buzzy atmosphere really make it special. The small menu is easy to navigate and the salumi board and carpaccio make for great sharing options. Service is outstanding.
A really fun place in Upper Queen Anne.

This was our second time to How to cook a wolf, and we were very happy we gave it a second chance.
My husband and I took my mother there for her birthday when she was visiting, we had a 745 reservation and had to wait an 1hr for our table. It wasn't all fault of the restaurant, it was mainly the patrons that were taking WAY too much time to leave their table. They did their best to make it right, and we really appreciated that! We went a second time 2 weeks ago late on saturday night, we were seated immediately and of course the food was amazing! On top of that the waitress brought by a complimentary cocktail for everyone in our party because of the issues we experienced on our last visit. Great job and we will definitely be back!

Great Food in Tiny Restaurant
I'm not really into Italian food. I don't love pasta with all my heart and soul. But "How to Cook a Wolf" made Italian food good again! The pork chop was perhaps the best pork I have ever had. The pasta had so much flavor, it was worth eating and yes, even enjoying.
The atmosphere was loud. Cacophonous almost. It's a beautiful restaurant, but tiny. Don't come here for a quiet, romantic dinner, because it won't be that. But come here with no more than four people and have a loud time while eating some wonderfully prepared, artistic, but still large portioned meals.
10/14/2013 5:00:00 PM
How to cook a wolf is a little bit noisy, but it feels cozy and sort of homey. The food is excellent and thoughtful, as is the service. Oh, and the mixed drinks are great (not too sweet), and as far as dessert goes, the sweet corn pana cotta is so, so good I'm tempted to go back just for that (and a drink, of course).
10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
How to Cook a Wolf was amazing. The service was great. I was late coming to my reservation due to traffic and work and it was not a problem for them even though they were starting to get busy. my server recommended great wine and even upsold me to a bottle. She was very knowledge able about the menu and our food came out in a timely matter. I woudl go again for dinner very soon
10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent food and service.
This place did not disappoint. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. Very friendly wait staff and very energetic. You felt they wanted to be there and enjoyed their jobs. The food and drinks were excellent and very well presented. Would definitely return.
10/17/2013 5:00:00 PM
Never before in 60 years have I read a restaurant menu and had no clue about what I was ordering. The plates are small, pricey, but well prepared. I'm still not sure what I ate. The ravioli was excellent.

Lived Up to All The Raves
Service, food and ambiance were incredible. My husband and I recently celebrated our 20th anniversary at How To Cook A Wolf and would choose it again every time. We will be back every time we visit Seattle!

Yum Yum Yum!
HTCAW has been on my list for a very long time. Basically since it opened. However, there were always good enough reasons not to go - it's so small, parking can be difficult, it's expensive, it's to date-y, etc. Seeing it on the Restaurant Week list this time compelled me to suck it up and go anyway. Made reservations early and had a wonderful time. It is definitely more in the slow leisurely pace camp, which I appreciated. I like to try as much as I possibly can when I'm someplace new and HTCAW is perfect for that. Everything came out in plates designed for sharing. We were stuffed by the end of the night (over 2 hours later). We didn't come close to finishing dessert and took significant to go boxes of the main courses with us as well.
10/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
When my guest and I arrived, it was quite busy and it took the host a bit to acknowledge us. We had reservations, but arrived early. Given Restaurant Week, it was busy, but the staff ensured they would get is in as soon as possible. In the mean time, they offered us wine. We ended up sitting down more than 45 mins before our reservation. The menu had a great selection all of which had distinct, delicious tastes. They ran out of dessert selections, but that reinforces how popular this venue is. The experience overall was excellent - I would definitely recommend a visit.

Great trendy spot in Queen Anne
Had a great evening at HTCW. Plates are meant for sharing so we ordered a fee different things. Highlight was the pumpkin ravioli - yum!

Really good food, but not
Really good food, but not outstanding. My husband and I were in town from Minneapolis and wanted to try some of Seattle's best dining. We made reservations at How to Cook a Wolf with high expectations. The service was good, and the building was cozy and beautiful. We ordered chickpea fritters, which were excellent. However, the pork chop and talligatte pasta were only very good, not spectacular. The pork chop was a bit bland and the pasta was unremarkable. We ordered limoncello for dessert, but the restaurant was out. I did like that they gave us a small bag of fresh pasta to take home even though our hotel does not have a stovetop on which to cook the pasta. Like I said, overall it was good, not great.

Best pork chop I've ever had
The entire dining experience was great. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was outstanding. The beet salad, pumpkin ravioli and pork chop were all amazing.
11/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
I love this place but it has so few tables you really have to plan in advance or go on an off night and sit at the small bar to get in. The team that takes care of the bar and tables are the best, very personable and gracious but not in an excessive way. Its cozy and classy and feels like a neighborhood hideaway. Great cocktails and wine list. Be prepared to eat tapas style to get the full benefit of the menu.

My daughter and I had a wonderful
My daughter and I had a wonderful time. The ambience was almost New Yorkesque. The server, Pam, as a sweetheart. Food was excellent. Have a great time!
11/12/2013 4:00:00 PM
We were there early so service was superb. The food was excellent, unique preparation and ingredients. As the restaurant fills up I am sure there would be considerable noise and limited privacy.

Yummy Unique Cozy Italian!
How to Cook a Wolf is warm and welcoming as soon as you walk in the door! Candlelit small, cozy booth/chair style seating and attentive wait staff. We enjoyed sharing two unique salad appetizers, the chickpea salad offered a sweet tangy lemon dressing and the roasted beets featured fluffy cheese and walnuts. The wait staff timed our dishes perfectly so we could take our time. We ordered the Pumpkin Ravioli as our entrée. It was melt in your mouth heartwarming goodness!! We both loved this restaurant and will come again.
