Best Mexican food in NC
Had a great time as a first time diner at this restaurant. Loved the specialty drinks and the food was great. Sitting outside on lazy Saturday sipping drinks and enjoying good food. What could be better?

All in our party of four enjoyed their dinner selections. We selected 2 appetizers for the table to share along with each individual selecting a featured cocktail. I was concerned we may have ordered to much food but the dinner portions were perfect in size. The flavor of each entree was unique and distinct. The use of local ingredients when possible reflects well on the owners attitude about fine dining. We are already planning our next visit so that we can continue to explore the menu. The waitress was charming and helpful with our selections.

Jose and Sons - great expereience
Ordered the chef's dinner for 2. This selection had a large amount of food - my boyfriend and I couldn't finish it all (and he eats a lot!) and it came out quickly. Service was spectacular. Will definitely be back soon!

New name, still good food!
It took a bit research to determine that Jose and Son is owned by the same owners who owned Jibbarra. They decided to change the direction and food of the restaurant, so they changed the name. But it is still really good!
The food has bit of a more southern flare, but I didn't feel like it was an important difference. They still offer what you'd think of a traditional mexican food, like enchiladas but with a more interesting twists and fewer 'vanilla' options.
I love the decor and the staff was great. My only complaint was that the Agua Fresca was too big and maybe a bit too strong tasting, but really nothing worth worrying about.

I knew from the "¡Hola y'all! welcome on the website that it was going to be a treat. Have been a big Jibarra fan since they opened on Six Forks Road (now Rancherita) and the evolution to Mexican-Southern fusion should be very popular. Unexpected combinations really worked. With collards and porkbelly, this isn't traditional TexMex. The yucca vegetarian dish was outstanding. Live jazz music on the bar side added to the great ambiance. Will definitely be back!

Great food, friendly staff
Server was very knowledgeable and provided good advice for menu selections. Dinner for 2 was amazing! Guacamole was salty but decent.

We took a chance on bringing a group of nine friends, including kids, to dine prior to a show at the Memorial Auditorium. From the second we sat down, Luis, our waiter, was attentive and funny. He made sure he answered our questions, made great recommendations, and engaged the kids. The drinks were amazing. We tried the agave margarita, the bloody Maria, and the Paloma. We had the guacamole w/ chips and salsa. Good, but nothing special. For dinner we sampled many dishes. The black eyed peas were a favorite and were perfectly paired as a side dish to the taco trio. The meatballs were good, a bit heavy for me, but tasty. The winner was the Enchiladas Del Mar. The grilled shrimp were perfect. We look forward to dining here again soon.

The service and atmosphere, as well as the food, were great. The Mussels and Duck Mole dishes are highly recommended. Our server was quite friendly and prompt.

Fun for the Family
We started with appetizers - corn bread with poblanos, guacamole, yucca frites, and chicarrones. All were great and the chicarrones were probably the surprise. We were expecting crunchy pork rinds but instead found them to be a thick cut, deliciously prepared bite. For our entrees, we had the skirt steak with blackened shrimp, pork loin, mahi-mahi and chicken enchiladas. All dishes were tasty and had a true Mexican flavor as we have experienced many times throughout Mexico. Drinks were cold, colorful and tasty. Our waitstaff made the experience wonderful as they were timely in service, kept our drinks filled, and explained the menu to us in detail. Prices were low for the quality and quantity of food served. No one left hungry!

Not your typical Mexican restaurant
Our weekly trip out to a new and interesting restaurants led us to Jose and Sons this week. We were more than pleasantly surprised to find this Upscale Mexican restaurant, with outstanding food and great atmosphere and service. The food has a South American flair to it and everything seemed freshly prepared. We will definitely be back.

Can't Wait to Go Back
I found my all-time favorite cocktail here: the Vallarta 77. Ceviche was tender and tasty. For our entree, we ordered the Picnic for two. It came with grilled fish, chicken, and steak, grilled vegetables, collards, rice, beans and tortillas. The chicken was a little dry (thus, 4 stars rather than 5), but the fish and steak were juicy and flavorful. The grilled vegetables were perfectly cooked and smoky. I can never get enough of the collards, which were cooked to retain a little crunch and had a tangy seasoning. On a previous visit, I had the barbacoa, which is a braised beef dish boldly seasoned – also delicious. Our wait person was delightful, but didn't tell us the specials and became a bit scarce when the restaurant got busy.

Southern Comfort with Mexican Twist
Very flavorful food. I tried the Shrimp and Grits. It was amazing to get some mexican flare to, what sometimes is fairly bland. A must try.

Lived Up To High Expectations
The website was beautiful. (The pictures of their food made me salivate.) We visited on a mild fall day and sat outside. The server was diligent, friendly, and accommodating investigating gluten-free options with the chef. (Lots of great gluten-free options!) The appetizer (guacamole w/ goat cheese) set the tone for good things to come. Our brunch entrees were gorgeous to look at, scrumptious to smell, and delightful to taste. My wife and I both agreed that we have found our new favorite restaurant.

amazingly good food
This was our first visit to Jose and Sons and it will not be our last. The execution of the food from beginning to end was superb. The special been soup with lamb was superb with a variety of flavors and textures that would please anyone. My wife had the tiger prawn enchiladas with green sauce. The shrimp were cooked to perfection with a nice balance of flavors from the sauce. The highlight of the night was the lamb chops with mole sauce, fried yucca and brussel sprouts. The mole sauce was velvety with depth of flavors that would rival any sauce that I have ever tasted. The only disappoint to the evening was a special appetizer with plantains bacon and peanut butter. There was too much peanut butter and the plantains got lost in execution

More than I could have hoped.
Booked for a party of 8 and was hoping for the best. On a first Friday you never know how service will be, but it was perfect. Food was great, drink menu was substantial, and the ambience was perfect. Love that part of town and loved the entire experience.
