Turned a skeptic into a believer
I was skeptical because of their banh mi I had @ a farmers market a few years back left me very unimpressed, but I thought to give their dinner a chance. It didn't disappoint! We shared vegetable spring rolls and Chinese eggplant bahn bao, both were lovely and flavorful. I then had roasted pork shoulders with forbidden rice, kimchi, soft-boiled egg, and mushroom. It was just devine. My friend had black-pepper tofu, and it was delish as well. We shared banana pudding with tamarind sauce and peanut brittle. It was good, but needed a big scoop of vanilla ice cream :) Overall, awesome dining experience in which would be repeated for sure in the future.

The food is always good and
The food is always good and a little unusual. The big hits on our last visit were delicious mussels in a garlicky sauce with, perhaps, lemon grass. My wife's fried guinea hen was off the scale good--slight over-cooked but with great flavors and textures. My own stuffed calamari was under-seasoned and just ok.
The big down on the restaurant is the price of the bottles of wine. Wines that retail for 10 or 12 dollars can cost more than $40. When we were there almost nobody was purchasing the bottles. But they make up for that by charging $14.00 plus for a glass. Instead of feeling good about the food and service, one comes away feeling slightly ripped off.

The service and food were outstanding. We can't say enough about this place. Great experience. We will be back.

One of my favorite restaurants.
One of my favorite restaurants. Creative Asian fusion food. Quite exotic. Great for sharing so can taste more dishes.

Personal attention & great food
I dined there with three colleagues and we were all impressed with our food, especially the vegetarian dish. In addition, the husband of one of the Saigon Sisters came out and explained the history of the sisters and gave us complimentary cocktails!

Our table of 4 really enjoyed
Our table of 4 really enjoyed our dining experience at Saigon Sisters on Saturday, April 20th. Although we experienced a 45+ minute wait for our table (unplanned and unforeseen as others dining did not want to leave this wonderful restaurant, lol), the staff made us feel welcomed, offered us a complimentary drink and tempted our appetites with the most yummiest of dishes. We tried and shared various dishes and even had dessert! This was my second dining experience and I would definitely recommend this place to a friend and plan to go back again and again!
4/19/2013 4:00:00 PM
This place is a gem, a hidden treasure. My two friends and I came here to catch up and we had a wonderful experience. The service was outstanding, the food was incredibly tasty, and the ambiance was perfect. We also were grateful that the restaurant stayed open about 45 minutes past close time so that we could continue talking and sipping our cocktails. Highly recommend. My favorite was the quinoa. Gluten free & vegetarian!
4/25/2013 4:00:00 PM
Service was friendly and provided suggestions that were very good. THe green papaya salad was very fresh with just enough kick to it.
The homemade Siracha is very spicy in a good way - but if you don't like hot, use sparingly!
Had the lamb and the octopus - both were flavorful and cooked to perfection. Both were very tender but 2 totally different dishes.
Didn't try dessert - we were way too full.
Only disappointment was the server also did bartending and he was a bit afraid of making a Sake Martini.

Great food; Outstanding Service!
I continue to be impressed with Saigon Sisters. The food is great and the staff is outstanding.

Unique food find
I used to live in Asia, so my standards of Asian cuisine are high. Saigon Sisters didn't disappoint at all. Saigon is traditional meets modern in their cuisine and do it very well. Portions seem small for the price point, but we had no trouble feeling full after our meal and felt it was worth the price. The BBQ eggplant is the best eggplant I've ever had.

Great West Loop Find
Loved the design, the creative menu, great food and outstanding service by David the waiter. Had a wonderful meal. So glad I chose it!

This was my second time visiting this restaurant and I'm sure not my last. The food and service are fantastic!

Creative, delicious Vietnames fare
Ordered the green papaya salad, the roasted pork shoulder, and the scallop chao, and each dish was just sublime. Fantastic food, perfect portions, and very reasonable prices. Strongly recommend.

Incredible! We are going back!
Wow, what an absolute performance in both service and food. This is one of the best restaurants on the scene in Chicago! We can't wait to go back!

unique delicious food
amazing service and food taste. loved the spring rolls, fish curry and mussels
5/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
We very much enjoyed the entire experience at Saigon Sisters. The food was prepared creatively, and was very clean and fresh.
Best spring spring rolls I have ever had! Had some good vegetarian options as well. Loved the Sea Bass.

DELICIOUS VIETNAMESE FOOD!
I frequently visit the French Market stand and I am a fairly loyal customer - their food is just straight up delicious! But it was my first time visiting the restaurant for dinner and the food (and service) highly exceeded my expectations. The food was so fresh and clean... as they follow a progressive menu/ordering type of serving. So good... I will most definitely go back.

Great food experience
Great Vietnamese/Pan-Asian food with a different/modern twist. Very unexpected dining experience judging from the street view of the restaurant. You simply don't expect the quality, service and flavors this small neighborhood restaurant puts out. Owners Dan and Mary do an excellent job from beginning to end. Thank you for an excellent evening. This is a must if you enjoy dining out!

Little Room, Big Flavors
Saigon Sisters is a surprising storefront restaurant. The austere room has a small touch of elegance. The staff is welcoming. And the food is always a winner. Steamed mussels, lamb, scallops are all cooked just the right amount and the flavors with a touch of the East are always a little surprising and unusual. Only problem is that the wine list is too high priced.
6/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
We so enjoyed all of the dishes we shared with our friends. Everything was full of flavor. Service was good too.
6/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Our table was ready for us
Our table was ready for us when we arrived. The staff were all personable, knowledgeable and attentive. All, clearly, were foodies. The menu had options for everyone, even vegetarians. We tried many different items. All were outstanding. The restaurant is small and intimate. The noise level was controlled. Our table of five all participated in the same conversation with ease. An all around great experience.

A true gem
Really great Vietnamese food is hard to come by this was one of those rare gems food was amazing and service as good. Try the whole snapper. Melts in your mouth. One of the best i have ever had anywhere. Dan the owner was a delight. A must go

Love it very much. The waiter made suggestions and the food was delicious.
Will be back

Wonderful flavors abound
Had heard mixed reviews but was enticed to go there by a bloomspot I had bought. Every dish we had was delicious. Special trout was beautifully prepared and unique in taste and presentation. Cold lobster rolls and cold laughing shrimp salad also delightful . Eggplant tender and not overpowering. 1/2 chicken with 12 spices was the only dish, in my opinion, that fell short. We will return though for more taste treats. More expensive than Uptown Vietnamese but it is more sophisticated.
7/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Worth the wait
We had been wanting to try Saigon Sisters for a while and finally got the chance. Everything was what we hoped for. Excellent food, attentive service, and lovely decor.
7/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
First timer not disappointed.
Started with the very unique egg rolls with foie gras which were quite tasty. Ordered the special whole snapper. The fish was presented in a very unique and artistic way and the fish itself was cooked well. I failed to remember how much I dislike ginger and the sauce was pretty strong with that flavor. That was my fault. Enjoyed a Belgian IPA that was a surprise. Great place to unwind after a long days work.
8/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
I was visiting Chicago for a of couple days and decided to eat at Saigon Sisters per recommendation of my sister. When we arrived, we were a little confused by the unconventional dinner menu, but took suggestions from the waiter who told us to order two items per person. The menu is designed for sharing. That being said, we ordered two items per person and had more than enough food. Also, we found that the tastes compliment each other so well that it's as if each dish was created to eat with the other.
All around delicious and wonderful experience. Run don't walk!!!

Very friendly and accommodating
Very friendly and accommodating service. Food was really interesting, and very good. We enjoyed a gin cocktail that was interesting, with bits of black pepper and saki.

Saigon Sisters is great, "pho" sure
The spring rolls were fantastic, particularly the lobster special. Service and ambiance were excellent.

Approachable Vietnamese Cuisine
If you've ever wanted to try Vietnamese Cuisine but were reticent, lay about no more! Saigon Sisters has something for everyone...and, even the pickiest or most fearful of eaters will find something to eat here. Best reason to come here -- they make their own Sriracha -- HOMEMADE SRIRACHA PEOPLE!

Keep it a secret
I contemplated not writing this for fear the place will become too popular, but it's my new fav and had to share. Octopus was incredible!

Saigon Sisters Sizzles!
This restaurant serves authentic Vietnamese food and it's fabulous! In a way, if I praise it too much, it will just be another great restaurant too hard to get into. The food is delicious and very different than other Asian food. We love it!
There's plenty of street parking on this block of West Lake Street, and the elevated train structure outside the large windows gives the place a cool, city look.
9/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
I love Vietnamese food and they get it right with a little extra flair. Small, intimate place, great food. The poached lobster spring rolls were amazing and the pork belly bao..delicious. We also enjoyed the whole Red Snapper and Bar-b-que eggplant. The Vietnamese beer was perfect, and their cocktails, though a bit pricey, were very tasty and creative. The service was friendly and welcoming. We will definitely go again since the lunch menu looked great as well.
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Delicious food, royal treatment
We chose Saigon Sisters for their reputation for excellent French Vietnamese food in a cozy and charming setting. We were not disappointed. We had attention from both our server and others making seamless transitions as dishes came and went, and excellent recommendations of the food. The food was as delicious as anticipated. I can only say there wasn't anything we tried that wasn't absolutely delightful from the Bahn Mi to the Red Snapper to the Kobe beef burger. We enjoyed the home-made sriracha from Chef Matt Riordan in addition to all the other fabulous food on the table. Don't miss the shrimp glass noodles- perhaps under endowed with descriptives on the menu but turned out to be our favorite dish. I hope you'll try this downtown Gem!

Modern Twist on Vietnamese Food
Saigon Sisters does the classical items very well and then takes some traditional Vietnamese dishes and gives them a wholly modern angle. We loved everything - Laughing Bird Shrimp Salad and the amazing spring rolls. The place is small and intimate and we never felt rushed. They offer a nicely curated short list of wines and have a full bar. This was a second visit and it won't be our last.
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
The flavors have been Americanized so don't expect the exact same as you would experience in Vietnam; however, the food is great they have the most have dishes in the menu and the place it's great value for money!!

Vivid Flavors Mark This Place
My wife and I eat there around six times a year. We go there because it is the best restaurant near the Lyric Opera House. But that is damming with faint praise. The food is really good with flavors you don't encounter often elsewhere. Try the mussels and the lamb. The service is pleasant. Only problems are a) The wine list is overpriced b)although they have done a good job with what they have, it is still in just a store front.
10/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very good! We'll be back.
Much of the food was unique, flavorful and well presented. The green papaya salad, pork shoulder and octopus were outstanding, although, the squash rolled in bread lacked flavor and was not so special. The wine list was limited, but had good choices at good prices. The desserts, bread pudding and chocolate ganache were excellent compliments to the meal. Our waiter was a little disappointing: there when he wanted to push more food, but not there to fill the water glasses or remove the dishes. The atmosphere is small and intimate. The location, at the Clinton Stop, could not be more convenient to the L. Also, Province, another great restaurant is around the corner. If one can't seat you, walk around to the other. We will go back.
10/31/2013 5:00:00 PM
Cocktails are overpriced, not worth the money.
Shrimp springrolls were delicious; as was the Yellow Curry. Lamb burgers were too greasy. Great atmosphere and attentitive staff.

Delight your taste buds
Saigon Sisters is a labor of love for the very inventive chef and the co-owner who literally bring fantastic Vietnamese and French tastes and sensibilities to this gem of a restaurant. Your taste buds will thank you for a wonderful meal. Saigon Sisters finds the perfect combination of ingredients and the tastes explode in your mouth. The ambiance is warm modern and the service is gracious and excellent. Every detail is thought through by the husband and wife owners who execute them very well. Go to this restaurant if you have not. We love going back for the food all the time.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Lovely and Intimate
The restaurant itself is very small, probably around a dozen tables only. Very intimate and very romantic without being pretentious. The menu is succinct and most plates are great for sharing. Prices are surprisingly affordable considering the unique menu offerings and quality of food, service, etc. Wonderful find!
11/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
One of my Chicago favorites.
Excellent excellent food. I don't know why they don't have a bib gourmand at the very least. And the owners are salt of the earth.
11/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
I will go back
Really good. Great fresh food. Great service. I will return.

Awesome Dining Despite Being By El!
My friend and I had a great dining experience here. Atmosphere is cozy and warm and the food is delicious! I was a bit leery of the location given it's next to Dunkin Donuts and a 7/11 and under the El but the restaurant is very nice inside. The service was very good. We will be back!
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
I really love this restaurant. I am from out of town, but have eaten here twice. The food is very well prepared, unique and carefully presented. Service is excellent. It is a small space but comfortable and I never feel rushed. You can tell that everyone who works there cares about your dining experience.
