Cafe Provence is always a treat. Fine dining in Brandon, Vt. We had a party of 14 for Easter brunch and the food selection was perfect. I especially enjoyed the lamb, pizza, and desserts. When we had to increase our number two different times, they handled it with no problem. As everyone in our area knows, this is a real GEM.

Cafe Provence is a gem. Our food was delicious and beautifully presented, the service friendly and prompt and the entire experience a treat. I would highly recommend dining at Cafe Provence for a lovely meal.

This is our fourth visit and once again Cafe Province did not disappoint! I would love to take a cooking lesson there! Can't wait to go back.

Elegant, Romantic & the Best Around
Very nice atmosphere and excellent service but the best part is the food! Everything we had, from the appetizers to dessert, was the best I have ever experienced. The Cheesecake is creamy and delicate, the salads are fresh and tasty, and the tenderloin melts in your mouth. I consider myself a food snob and only appreciate food out that I cannot make better at home. This fine restaurant delivers! Chef Robert is the best around and it is such a treat to eat at his fine French Cafe. You will not be disappointed.

Chef Robert Barral's Cafe
Chef Robert Barral's Cafe Provence is a world-class restaurant located in little Brandon, Vermont. We started out with NE Clam Chowder, which was among the best I ever had. The Seafood Stew was excellent. A great wine list, including wines se;ected particularly for this restaurant

Brunch piqued my interest
Our first visit to Cafe Provence was for Sunday brunch. Let's start with the outstanding: The service was timely, friendly, and complete. The food was very good. We all ordered fairly typical breakfast food (egg dishes of some sort), which you can get just about anywhere, but not with the culinary flair we experienced from Cafe Provence's brunch. We agreed that a return trip for dinner is necessary to experience what this restaurant can really do.

We drive an hour to get to there!
How can there be a restaurant this good in a nice town way in the middle of Vermont? Food is very good indeed. Ambiance is pleasant & informal. Service is thoughtful. What a find. Worth the trip.

Cafe Provence keeps getting better
My husband and I had dinner here last Saturday evening. Chef Robert was not at the helm so we wondered what would happen. First bite and everyone preparing the food knew exactly what to do!!! My seafood stew was so fantastic my husbands chicken also fantastic!! Our waitress was very knowledgeable and nice. Would be pleased to have her again!! All the staff that night were great.
It is a bit pricey but so worth it. We had dinner at another restaurant in the area on Friday evening that called themselves "The Poets of Fish" and it was very disappointing to say the least. Cafe Provence is the poets of fish

Had a wonderful dinner! Creative menu & excellent waitress, and perfect sized portions. Not a large restaurant, so I'd recommend reservations. Enjoy!

Found a wonderful spot in Brandon for a special occasion. We wanted a quiet lunch with good food and found it at Cafe Provence. Thank you.

terrific chef, original food, interesting and delicious, extremely well prepared and presented, relaxed but quiet atmosphere, plenty of space between tables, good service, by far the best restaurant in the Rutland to Middlebury corridor

A standby which never fails
A rainy Thursday night was no deterrent for the folks who knew where a good meal would be found. Excellent preparations of fish and duck for our table, and a very efficient and friendly server, made for a great evening.

Best in This part of Vermont
Inventive combinations of flavored and textures prepared expertly and served in a pleasant environment. My wife and I shared the mussels for our appetizer. They were excellent...fresh and well seasoned in a garlicky wine broth. I had the duo of duck - I love duck and this was well prepared with the breast cooked separately from the leg so they could each be done properly with the breast showing pink and the leg cooked through with wonderful crispy skin. My wife had the salmon which was cooked to perfection - so many places blow it by overcooking the salmon. Only miss was that her pasta was overcooked (a rare miss at CP). Desert was coffee and creme brûlée which was very nice. Wine list has reasonably priced options.

The food is consistently very good. However, there are no dishes that are fantastic that make you say, I want to go back there to have that special dish. However, every meal is consistently very good and that is special in itself. The waitstaff is always professional, friendly and helpful. Easily, the best restaurant in this part of the state.

Best gazpacho ever!
Cafe Provence is a charming restaurant in Brandon with a sophisticated menu. The gazpacho drew raves from our family and we were delighted to see it on the menu as we were there on a hot night recently. The lobster special and the duck entree also were spectacular. The excellent Mediterranean crepe appetizer worked as an entree--very tasty. The pizza was too much for one person and not the best choice by the patron in our party, but overall the experience was great and we would love to return if we get back to the area. Congrats to the staff and management.

We have been going to Cafe Provance every summer when we are in Vt since it opened. The food is consistently good to excellent and prices reasonable. They have a good beer selection and the service is always excellent.

We unexpectedly arrived on a night with a special Italian menu created by a guest chef. Our companions opted for dishes from the regular menu and were more than happy. My partner and I chose the five-course Italian offering. The bruschetta with prosciutto and peach topping was a nice starter, the pasta pillows filled with a ricotta mixture were paddling in a delicious sauce, the seafood sausage was velvet in texture but actually somewhat bland, and the roast pork medallions I'm sorry to say were a bit dry and perhaps overcooked. No matter, it was still a wonderful dining experience. Café Provence is so exceptional a place that slight mis-steps register more notably. It's still "worth a detour" as the Michelin Guide would say.

Fine, friendly, French dining
For delicious, beautifully presented French dishes served in a friendly, relaxed, but attentive atmosphere, Café Provence is the place to dine. Situated in the charming downtown of Brandon, VT, casually-dressed diners are welcome. Our water glasses were never empty, the server was knowledgeable and accommodating, and we never felt rushed or ignored. My salmon was perfectly prepared with accompaniments and was so well presented that I spent several moments admiring its visual effect. This was our second visit to Café Provence; We specifically returned to Brandon on our vacation so that we could dine there. We will definitely return!

Provence in Central VT
Chef Barral has put together an interesting and diverse bistrot menu featuring many local ingredients. The excellent Napoleon of Escargots is not to be found easily elsewhere and the goat cheese cakes are an elegant yet simple offering of homegrown dairy. The menu also highlights gluten free and vegetarian friendly options. He offers several private-label wines from his home region in France that are delicious and affordable.

6 for 6
A special family gathering. 6 different meals at our table and all of them exceptionally delicious. Nice sized portions. All veggies very fresh. Seasonings were just right on everything. Be prepared to drop 25+ per person for entrees. The specialty pizza descriptions looked great for trying next time when the budget feels more limited. Good beer on tap.

Tuesday Night Availability
A friend was coming to Bread Loaf for the Writer's Workshop and I wanted to take her to a nice place with great food. She was coming to Vermont from out of the USA and I was driving a distance (in-state). I really wanted the food to be top-notch and the atmosphere lovely. My first choices were a no-go as it was Tuesday and they don't serve on Tuesday night: Tourterelle and Starry Night. So we went to Cafe Provence.
The appetizers were excellent (goat cheese cake & platter of pate) and the server was attentive, but a bit on the impatient side. The main courses were okay but the flavors melded together without much distinction: I had haddock w/crab & she had the duck. The wine options, however, were superb. I had an amazing zinfandel!

A Great Addition to Brandon
Cafe Provence makes Brandon a town to visit. Along with some of the neighboring shops, the restaurant provides a great place to stop for lunch or dinner after walking the main street.

One of the best meals of my life
This was literally one of the best meals of my life, and I'm a world traveler. The haddock dish on their regular menu is so flavorful, so complex, so diversely textured... really and truly one of the best meals I have ever eaten. Paired with the interesting fruit and nut bread they serve at the tables, and the well put together Caesar salad with anchovies... just a superb dining experience. I love the atmosphere, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I can't eat out again for a while because I don't want the memory of this amazing meal to fade too quickly!

Stop me please!
One of these days, I'll be able to skip the starter so there will be room for dessert! However, that day has not arrived. The offerings are always delicious. I've never been disappointed. Well, I could wish for a drier martini!

Great experience, great food! Salad in an asiago cup exceptional. Sauce on the scallop and saffron rice to die for. Wish I lived closer so I could go more often!

Had another great meal at Cafe Provence. With Thanksgiving on my mind, I ordered the turkey pot pie. Much to my surprise, this amazingly tasty dish was filled with all of my Thanksgiving favorites. Tasty gravy with chunks of turkey, mashed & sweet potatoes, cranberry chutney, asparagus, stuffing - YUM!
Save room for the homemade maple creme brûlée.
