We had the calamari appetizer which was exceptional; breaded, fried and seasoned, not just deep fat fried. The seafood pasta was fresh and delicious. My husband enjoyed the scallops very much with the "foam" topping. The portions were perfect, not too much or too little. The only disappointment was that they charged my husband for his coffee refill as if it was a new offer. Cheap! Vey cheap!!!

The staff at the restaurant
The staff at the restaurant was welcoming and friendly. Our waitress explained the menu thoroughly and made a point to note the Restaurant Week menu. Each course was exactly as described on the menu, but looked even more beautiful than imagined coming out of the kitchen. The drink menu was varied and unique, and the wine list had options for every taste.

The food and ambiance were terrific. The lobster ravioli appetizer was delicious and the pan seared scallops on root vegetable puree with lotus blossom crisps and a citrus foam was ethereal . Also the cold smoked sirloin with chipotle blue cheese butter and herb roasted new potatoes with sauteed spinach was outstanding.

This place was great. My boyfriend and I had the lamb and the scallops and both dishes were to die for. The service was great as well. We would recommend this place for a nice date-night in the city.

49 social has replaced the former restaurant Ivy. There is great use of the space for seating and bar. I love the dark yet rich ambiance of the place. The entrees are in the $20-30 range, but big enough portions to share. They have a decent wine list. I think I would really enjoy the bar. It's not too noisy, so perfect for catching up with a friend.

Good for pre-theater!
Excellent spot for pre-theater dining. My fellow diner swears she had the best swordfish she had ever had. I tried the lamb Bolognese with mint sauce - tastes much better than it sounds! Solid service - the manager shut down a cold air register above our heads when we complained about being cold. Space got crowded upstairs when it filled up but the servers were able to maneuver just fine.

Got the round booth in the back which was away from the bustle of the bar scene. We loved the starters menu so much we decided to eat "Tapas" and share a set of starters. The calamari was very good with a slightly different flavoring that we all enjoyed. The seared tuna was delicious but just a few small pieces. The filet mignon was delicious as were the mussels. After dinner we had the caramel bread pudding which was excellent - not too sweet, and perect

The five of us sat at the back table. We had a 5:30 reservation and were going to the theater for an 8 pm show. The food was fabulous; the drinks were good and the owner stopped by a couple of times to check in on us. The only glitch was that they didn't have the ingredients to make an appletini - my mom's favorite drink - was a bit surprised at that given it was a Friday night. Was a great experience and would go there again.

we had a great meal at 49 Social. The food was delicious - the monkfish was perfectly cooked. our waitress was very attentive and friendly, offering good suggestions. There weren't many people in the restaurant so it was rather quiet that night, but could imagine it may be much louder if full.

Enjoyed 49 Social
The resturaunt was unremarkable in the crowded Boston block, but easy to find nevertheless. We were seated right away, we had reservations but there were open tables. We enjoyed an appetizer (Frito Misto) and she had the Fillet and I had a pasta and seafood dish (de Frutti is all I remember of the name). Both were great and the fillet was done perfect with a creamy mashed potato and grilled asparagus and a gravy to die for. My seafood dish came on top of frsh made long flat noodles and except that I would have preferred a little more seafood, it was delicious! I ordered Carrot Cake for dessert but we brought it home we were so full! It was terrific as well. The waitress, Leah, did a great job as well. An enjoyable experience for sure!

Amazing food start to finish
Amazing food start to finish! It was a slow weeknight so I was worried the food wouldn't be up to weekend standards. I was WRONG! The food was fantastic. Every dish. 5 spice rub tuna, best lamb shank EVER, incredible carrot cake, great coctails. Really the food was AWESOME.

Wow - Incredible Flavors
You don't get food this good very many places. Chef Lishchynsky puts his own spin on old favorites like French Onion Soup, which was, by the way, amazing in that kind of spoon-dropping first-taste amazing. My wife started with the Chef's Spring Salad. When she saw it, she said "Darn, I could have made this at home." But when she tasted it she said "Wow!" She is an amazing cook with a sophisticated palate so this is no small compliment.
For a main course I had the Pasta Primavera and she had the Marinated Grilled Swordfish. The pasta primavera used house-made pasta and it showed - very, very nice dish. The swordfish generated more wows from my wife. She took half home and is looking forward to having it for dinner tonight.

Perfectly cooked steak. Cute waitress, not too informative! Too dark to eat though. I would come again and again!

Great pre-theatre drink or meal
We had a lovely meal--the fish special was outstanding with fiddle heads and home made gnocchi as sides. I also like the bar very much. The bar tender is attentive and makes a good drink. She remembered I had been in the week before even though I just was a walk in then so she did not have a reservation history to aid her memory. That impressed me. I will be back.

An amazing meal
This was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. We has a tasting menu that was incredible. The scallops melted in your mouth and the Rib-eye steak was prepared to perfection! They have a wonderfully diverse menu and make everything fresh and on-site. Oh and I almost forgot to mention the dessert, the carrot cake was moist and rich with a cream cheese frosting to rival most that I have had. I work in the food industry and I have absolutely nothing negative to say about t49 Social. My best friend and I walked out of the restaurant full and happy. I recommend 49 Social to anyone who is looking for a special night out or just a great dinner with friends.

We went on a Friday night, and each ordered a cocktail and a fish dish. I got the Bulleits over Broadway, a kind of Manhattan, that was delicious.
My entree was cod with a warm tomato salad, tarragon creme fraiche, and potato latkes. The cod was just done--cooked but still very tender--and the creme fraiche was a great accompaniment. But I loved the way the salad and the latkes went together. Just a superb combination of flavors.
The service was very friendly and helpful.

Don't miss this place!
Truly a great dining experience. We asked what we might expect if ordered the chefs tasting menu, and they sent the chef out to share his ideas. Each course was spectacular. Our favorite was the scallops over gnocchi - will be repeat customer for this dish alone. Can't recommend enough.

Arrived at 5:15 for a leisurely dinner and conversation before the ballet and had the place to ourselves almost until Six.

Great night out with superb food
I'd never been to 49 Social before and didn't know what to expect. Every piece of the meal was stellar. I had clam chowder soup that was full of clam meat. The pasta primavera was perfectly done. The sauce was great. The Nutella creme brule was really good and different. The service was excellent with the waitress being very attentive to our needs. Overall a great experience. Maybe just a tad on the pricey side but well worth it.

Very good restaurant
The appetizer was good but for the price very small. The entree (ribeye), however, was delicious. Good meat quality, very tasteful. Desert was good.
The ambience is nice, we liked that it was not overcrowded and loud.
I would definetively recommend the restaurant in this downtown location (close to theater district and movies).

Great pre-theatre choice
Great apps, served quickly. Lovely marble top bar and interesting house cocktails.

Third visit and it's consistently excellent. I had the rib eye, large enough to,take home half. The quality can't be beat and the Chet's special touch makes it the best I've had in a long time. My husband had the special sea bass, which was meaty, moist, and delectably seasoned. The lobster risotto side had An ample portion of lobster, and the creme brûlée was so,good we finished it, even though we had no room for it! The manager, Talal is Attentive and concerned that his guests are satisfied ... A welcome change from most restaurant experiences, and Leah our waitress was excellent. We'll be back many more times. How often do you get a former chef from the Four Seasons?

I was hesitant to go to 49 Social after some mixed reviews, but it was amazing. Food was great, the owners were very nice and attentive. This restaurant is a great find in downtown Boston.

We used to like this place when it was Ivy's and when they went out of business, we kind gave up on the location. We were very surprised and very happy when we tried this place again. It has a nice bar where we ate. The wine list is extensive. The menu was eclectic. The filet was excellent. My husband's pork chops were delicious. Great location for us in Downtown Crossing. Will definitely be back.

Lovely décor and excellent
Lovely décor and excellent use of available space. Table settings were attractive and the hostess was charming. Food was very good, especially the pea and mushroom risotto with lamb chops. Delicious! Would go there again for a special occasion.

This place is great. It's kind of in a weird location but it's a gem inside. The staff is extremely courteous and friendly. They are always checking in on you to see if you needed anything and making sure you are enjoying yourself.
Even for a Tuesday night my friend and I were impressed with how energetic it got in there at the bar. The food was great as well, especially the Duck Quesedillas!
I recommend this to anyone in the area looking for a good time to get some drinks with friends.

Pre show dinner
We had an early dinner before going to a show at the Opera House so we were at the restaurant pretty early. There were only a few tables filled so we asked to be seated upstairs with a view over the lower level and were nicely accommodated. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, and made good recommendations. We didn't have a lot of the, so we skipped apps and went straight to entrees. The swordfish was moist and flavorful, and the lobster risotto was a standout. The stuffed pork hop was also very good. We both had the butterscotch bread pudding for dessert and it was delicious. We would return just for the stand out risotto and dessert. All in all a very nice experience.
8/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Overall excellent experience. Very close to Boston Opera House which made it a great place to dine before a show. The mussels were fantastic. The jumbo shrimp weren't really jumbo, but were excellent. The filet was tender and cooked to perfection. The ambiance was quiet and the the service was good. Highly recommended!
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
We happened to visit during restaurant week and actually tried that special menu... duck confit salad for appetizer, halibut for the main course, and a watermelon granita for dessert. Everything was cooked to perfection and was delicious! The service was quick and we never had to ask for more drinks. A very pleasant dining experience in Boston's theater district.

Pre-theater hidden spot
Found 49 Social on web search for restaurants near the Boston Opera House. It is tucked away around the corner on a side street. The service was good and the food mostly very good. My daughter's filet was delicious and the Pork Belly appetizer was fantastic - still thinking about it!

The food was excellent we had carrot soup and lamb Bolognese with mint pasta and braised lamb.

Food was delicious, from our appetizer to entrée to dessert. Loved the mussels, filet was cooked perfectly, and the seafood pasta was delicious in it's lobster saffron sauce. We went on a Tuesday night so we were literally the only table in the dining room upstairs which was nice because it was away from the bar downstairs. The bar seemed to attract more business. Hope more people will give this place a try. Only downside is that prices are on the high end.

Glad to see 49 Social doing well
We've been happy patrons of 49 Social almost since it opened. Over time we have seen it gradually grow in popularity, which we think is justly deserved. The food is always good and has been getting better. The service is always knowledgeable and friendly without being too friendly.

We were in Boston for 2 nights and for our last dinner it was a full success . The lobster ravioli were just great as well as the Surf and Turf carpaccio .
My filet mignon was perfectly cooked and the lamb shank was very, very tender.
So if 49 social is one of your dinner option don't hesitated. You will not regret.

Better ambience in the dining area ---way too noisy in the bar. My lamb shank was delicious……didn't love the salty olives in the couscous, tho.
