Great Fun Food.
Love the presentation and the food. A great place for a night out.

food and service were very good! a little bit slow side, but i prefer it. i cannot stand the waitstaff keeps interrupting us and asking "how is everything" every 10 mins. and rush to eat/drink quickly.

The decor is gorg! The food so good!we had the 7 course dinner and the portions were small and we thought that we going to be hungry but by the desert time all those small sz portions add up and you feel very full.the mio saki was amazing.will def.go back again.

Very good but very expensive,
Very good but very expensive, unless you go for their prix fixe dinner. Cooked food is top notch, sushi is very good, above average, but regular. Very good service and upscale ambience. A very pleasant evening!

Artful and Delicious
Once you get over the sticker shock and realize Megu is not your neighborhood sushi joint, you'll enjoy yourself. The ambiance is tranquil, the service courteous and the food is superb. Prices can be astronomical ($180 for a nine-ounce Kobe steak), but expect about $100-120 per person (without drinks) if you're not too excessive. I recommend the endamame soup and the crispy asparagus, along with various tartars as appetizers. The sushi is incredibly fresh and melts in your mouth in a complexity of tastes. The desserts are fun (share the sampler). The presentation is a work of art.

Wonderful service, and the environment was very quiet and comfortable. The quality of the sushi was excellent!

Beautiful food presentation
Anniversary dinner on a quiet Sunday evening, lovely setting, exquisite food and presentation. Service was perfect, not too overbearing but was there when you needed anything. Staff was friendly too and knowledgeable about the large Sake menu. We would definitely return. After reading some reviews beforehand, I was a little afraid we'd be waiting for a table, or a long time to be served but was pleasantly surprised. Maybe it's different on Fridays or Saturdays but this dinner was perfect!

Moderrn and elegant
Atmosphere and food presentation are Wow. Great drinks list too. Perfect for expense account meals.

A paragon for Asian food
One of my favorite restaurants. Excellent food, quality service and a nice atmosphere where - and this a rare find in Manhattan - you can actually have a conversation at a normal voice level. You need a little time however, because it is the opposite of fast food. But then again, everything is freshly prepared.

Great Food, great service!
My friend and I had a wonderful night at Megu last Monday. We each did a tasting menu and the food was excellent. The courses were well paced and beautifully presented. Our waiter, I can't recall his name exactly, Tarih (something like that) was so nice, attentive (but not overbearing--just right) and he made excellent suggestions for wine & food. We met the manager and the head sushi chef and they were so nice too. Everyone seemed to really care that we had a great time. I would absolutely go back!

Excellent Dining Experience!
I had a wonderful experience at your restaurant yesterday afternoon. I felt very welcomed by all of the staff. Everyone was very friendly and super attentive. The food was delicious! Highly recommended. I will dine here again.

Our Megu Experience
We purchased a Gilt City dining voucher for the 7 course tasting menu. The best course was the Edamame Soup with Rosemary. It was creamy and delicious. The dessert, consisted of an assortment of things which were quite tasty. The green tea cake was not too sweet and very light.. Although each course seemed quite small, at the end we were definitely satisfied. The service was outstanding. The wait staff was quite attentive and even from across the room noticed that I had dropped my chopstick and ran over with a replacement. The decor was nice with a corporate feel and the noise level was moderate. You definitely can carry on a conversation with out yelling or competing with others. I would recommend this restaurant for a special occasion.

east side japanese gem
A pity the restaurant cannot be seen from the street, as it is truly beautiful inside. Attentive service, excellent menu and delicious food. The sushi/sashimi platter and Kobe beef grilled at the table were perfect, and the green tea crepes for dessert were delectable.
A change in the background music might be a good idea.

A great dining experience. We actually sat next to the owner of the restaurant. Could not have had a better meal.

Megu's selection is great as alway. The seating arrangement is interesting. If you like to people watch request to sit upstairs toward the front. You will overlook the downstairs dining area and sushi bar which provides a quick lesson in food preparation.

The venue is lovely and the presentation is gorgeous. Service was excellent, and the prix fixe menu offers good selections and delicious dinners. Asparagus and shrimp were both good starters; steak and cod were delicious. Green tea crepe is unbelievable!

Great food experience
Best sushi I've had anywhere, fantastic service. The sashimi inside an ice igloo was probably the highlight.

Everything was just amazing. The detail to the food and appearance cannot be beat. Wish the space was larger but it was still great

Megu is more than I expected
We chose the 7-course menu (Omakase and Osusume)--and each course was beautiful to look at and presented exquisitely. If I had to be critical, I was not a fan of the MEGU Oriental Salad (3rd course), however, the sashimi on it and the dressing was delicitous. What I didn't like was the peanuts--I love the contrast and combination, however, it is so difficult eating peanuts with chop stickes. A minior set-back.
The Sweet Five was the best dessert I've had in a restaurant like Megu's in a long time. It looked absolutely delicious and tasted even better.
The service was fantastic--impeccable. Our dinner lasted a little over 2 hours--and I was glad both for the experience and not feeling rushed to leave.

Beef was overcooked and not as tender as previous visit but yellow was excellent.

good service. The steak is very delicious and I love it. Even the rice is very delicate and I like very much.

This was my second visit to Megu. The first visit was for lunch and this visit was for dinner. Dinner was just as excellent as lunch in terms of food and service, but the atmosphere was even better because it was night time. The interior of the restaurant is really lovely. There was enough buzz for the place to feel vibrant, but it was quiet enough to have meaningful conversation. The food was delicious and beautifully presented.

Restaurant Week Gem
The choices were delectable. I felt full but not beyond full. I went with 3 girlfriends so we were able to get all 4 dessert choices. These were probably the highlight of the meal. Chocolate cake, cheesecake, creme Brulee (my favorite) and mango cake. They weren't too big and having a little bite of each was easy on my diet!
The sushi was pretty good but it was nothing to rave about. My friends all got he Kobe beef and the presentation and taste were amazing!
Appetizers of salad were light and airy.
I loved getting to try out a fancy restaurant for a total of $51 (included tax and tip after $38 restaurant week charge).
Only downfall - Japanese restaurants usually give FREE hot green tea with your meal, but our green tea was $8 a teapot.

I went to Megu for dinner
I went to Megu for dinner during restaurant week. The decor is beautiful and the service was outstanding. I thought that the food was very good, however the portions were very small. I would go back to Megu Midtown for a special occasion.

So so Great
The decorations are so nice, the service was perfect and the food was extraordinary!! I am a sushi lover and there I ate one of the best sushi in my life!!!!!! My boyfriend ordered a steak (not keen on sushi) and that was so good too. It was served in a spectacular way!!!!
8/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
We loved everything about this place, from the elaborate decor, to the service and the food! The yellowtail carpaccio was the best I ever had in my life and will be one of my treasured food memories. We all ordered the Megu Bento Platter and were delighted as each piece was beautifully presented and delicious! . The Gindara Cod was outstanding and my absolute favorite. The Kobe steak was as described by all reviewers - exceptional and I am highly recommending it! The kobe beef croquette had the lightest and in the same time the crunchiest batter I tasted..... The Yuzu creme brulee was good, but not wow, as the burnt crust was soft unfortunately, which made me a bit sad . The chocolate cake was dry and disappointing. I will go again.

Great for dining -- but too
Great for dining -- but too expensive for regular lunch... Hence, I always look forward to restaurant week.
8/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
Megu Midtown gave good value for the money during Restaurant Week--- including some of its specialties in the menu. Though appetizer portions were austere, the quality of ingredients was impeccable. Two spears of crispy coated asparagus were amusing; yellowtail carpaccio with jalapeno dressing tantalizing; rock shrimp with mildly spicy cream sauce satisfying.
The sushi platter--five pieces plus a maki of spicy tuna--- was surprisingly generous, the fish all first-rate. a table mate ordered the Kobe beef, and while the portion (served medium and accompanied by garlic chips) was small, he declared it delicious
The mango mousse with passion fruit coulis was good, the yuzu creme brulee boring.

Worth the price
If you like excellent Japanese food w/an occasional Chinese twist, you will love Megu.
I had two wonderful Restaurant Week lunches there. Terrific value. The special shrimp appetizer and the Kobe beef were delicious, not to mention the Japanese citrus brûlée and the mango mousse cake desserts! Scrumptious. I would definitely return.

Restaurant week menu was disappoint
Restaurant week menu was disappointing as the previous years' menus were more generous and offered more of a selection.
8/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food and service were both
Food and service were both great, as always. The midtown location is not as impressive looking as the one in Tribeca, but it is still a great spot to have a nice meal.
8/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Outstanding modern Japanese
Great find and during restaurant week! Crispy asparagus a great starter. The sushi and sashimi about the best I've had. Each fish had its own flavor and stood out. Kobe beef exquisite. Definitely worth a return. Highly recommend.
8/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
The raw fish is superb. Both the tuna tartar and the sushi Plate with mixed fish and a tuna roll we're superb

Megu is wonderful and have
Megu is wonderful and have gone many times. However my daughters were told there was no more creme brulee. However, as we were leaving we saw it later served to an adjacent table. Not sure why they would do that, but a bit disappointing.
8/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
I like this place during lunch
I am working in a neighborhood, so a nice to place for lunch. Even for our tight budget, this place during lunch time is affordable. I go particularly in the restaurant week as my favorite "kagero" steak is offered. I went twice in the last week; one with my female friend, another is my grad school friend, his wife and my husband. I had kagero and sushi both good but I liked kagero better. Service is good and atmosphere is nice. So I recommend this place for special occasion lunch.

We went on a Thursday night, it was not crowded and very quiet. We got to enjoy an amazing dinner and not be distracted by a crowded and noisy restaurant. The food was excellent and service as attentive as necessary but not intrusive. I would definitely go again.

We were very dissapointed
We were very dissapointed at the size of the portions. For the amount of money they charge they should be ashamed....
The fact is the food is wonderful.... but how can you enjoy something that is barely a mouthful....honest!! They should get their act together and give people what they pay for.... and believe me... it's very expensive.
Shame on them.
9/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
I had the recommendation of 7Course tasting menu!. We both tasting.
It's just amazing especially the sashimi on ice igloo and the steak on the hot-stone.
The food may take a little long but its worth it to wait. I'll bring my friends here again.

O-tor-iffic (excuse the pun)
On the other end from my horrible pun, Megu Midtown offered my girlfriend and myself a wonderful dinner. We both ordered from the prix fixe menus - I asked for the crispy asparagus, kobe ishiyaki, and chocolate cake (though Megu had run out of such for the day and instead made me a fondant), while my girlfriend got the seaweed salad, kobe ishiyaki as well, and mango mousse. Separately, we also ordered one piece of o-toro sashimi and one piece of o-toro sushi. The stars were the pieces of toro - each was fantastic. Runner up was the kobe ishiyaki - the steak was delicious and cooking the slices on the heated rock was fun. The appetizers and desserts were also great.
I'd highly recommend Megu. Great for a date night. Great food. Fantastic.

A notch up from the ordinary
The food was exceptionally delicious - Japanese cuisine done right with a creative twist!

We was the day bevor @ Nobu, and it was ok, we though.
But what we saw @ the menu: the Dinner, the service, and the place aswell, everything was just amazing, and much better then the day bevor.
by the dinner, they don't serve just normal meals, you see that they was thinking on every plate do to something special. decoration, or the food, everything was just from heaven.
Also the service was great, attentive, and very friendly.
Just a perfect restaurant, for a special experience.
