The brunch IS worth it!
Our favorites were the chicken tinga and the pambazo. Delicious. The margarita was a little bit on the sweet side, but it was refreshing, so was the michelada. All their dishes were fresh and tasty, we'll be back!

My friend and I chose to do the bottomless brunch on Saturday. Our waitress was friendly and helpful and after learning of our food preferences, offered to select some items from the menu to try for the bottomless brunch. The Bloody Maria's were delicious as was the watermelon seasonal drink that my friend had. Overall, everything was superb. We received excellent service, were never rushed and enjoy wonderful food. While the price was a little steep including our coffees, it was definitely worth if for the food and drinks we enjoyed. I would definitely recommend El Centro for brunch.

The food was amazing. The chef was open to mxiing different types of enchiladas even though it was "available" on the menu. Even gave me a separate side of habanero sauce to spice it up to my liking. Margaritas were good strong (and on special). Our server was fantastic, attentive but not overbearing. I will definitely be going back and bringing friends

Excellent Father's Day Brunch
My husband and I went here with our almost 3 year old twins and had a very nice brunch on Father's Day. We dined upstairs, which is a really great space, that captures the look and feel of Mexico. They have a good selection of tasty brunch items and our twins, who are somewhat fussy eaters, enjoyed the (delicious) charro beans and sweets... the tres leches cake should not be missed.

Comfort Food, for sure!
Brunch was amazing! From the chilaquiles to the sopes to the quesadilla to the . . . the entire menu was delicious, came out quickly and efficiently, and the service was phenomenal. Set aside time for a nap after this meal, because you will certainly leave with a full and happy tummy.

Great spot to join friends for Happy Hour or dinner. it was so good we went there twice last weekend.
love the tacos and the margaritas were the fantastic.

Fantastic Tex Mex
While not traditional Tex-Mex per se, it was one of the best Mexican meals we have had in DC. Partner had the tacos, they were great. I had the carne asada wonderful. Love the sweet corn tamales. And to start off, very fresh, made at the table, Guacamole. Wow, not a fan of Guacamole, but this was wonderful Wrapped up with Churros and hot chocolate sauce, perfection.

It was my first time to El Centro, I was very impressed with the quality of food and the variety of their drinks. I LOVED the music. Made me feel that I was back home and the entire experience felt very authentic. I loved my agua de jamaica. Servers were very attentive and never let our glasses go empty. The waitress made us mimosas on different flavors (watermelon and orange)For $35 I got a lot more (quality food and drinks) than what I was expecting. Definitely scheduling another brunch with my girlfriends at El Centro.

Always good - never a let down - have been many times and will continue to go.
7/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were akll very pleased with our meal...we got sopes, guac and queso to start...all were perfect!!!
for dinner, salmon, duck mole, and carnitas. Not a single complaint....all of it was fresh, delicious and perfectly cooked,,,, YUM! the tamal and the plantains were delicious too.
got churros and tres leches cake for dessert....
the cake was the only thingi didnt like...it was like a muffin, with milk on it...not the tres leches I have come to appreciate..

Went for brunch, but always great
This is a rare place that does brunch, lunch, dinner and bar scene well. This visit was for brunch - we didn't do the $35 unlimited brunch, but what we ordered added up to almost that. The brunch "small plates" are kind of an odd size - one is too small, two might be too big unless you're really hungry (and don't get chips and guac). But to be clear, the egg and black bean taco is really good...
7/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent brunch as always
The all you can eat and drink brunch is a steal. Very attentive service.
7/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent food and vibrant
Excellent food and vibrant atmosphere. Not very personal though, as each of tables are on top of each other and you have no privacy.

Great Place for a Decent Price
One of the best Tex-Mex places in D.C. It has my vote.

Bang for your Buck (+ more!)
The bottomless brunch is amazing - as it is bottomless drinks AND food! You will not be tired of the assortment - of beverages (great bloody marias, mimosas, fresh fruit cocktails - hibiscus, watermelon, pineapple!) and the food is amazing, great variety, and because they are small plates, you can try more without feeling wasteful.
Our server was a bit sassy / unfriendly (likely because she was getting an automatic 20% tip because of the size of our group), but definitely willing to overlook it, as it was great food and better company.
8/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
The guacamole was made at
The guacamole was made at the table to the degree spiciness we asked for. The same for the chile rellano, the server actually came back to ask if it was OK for us...did we want milder or spicier. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Will definitely return here when we crave Mexican food.

One of our Favorite Mexican Places
We love El Centro. We do love eating downstairs, the only complaint is the lighting makes reading the menu very tricky. Almost need a flashlight! But once past that, the food is good. I had the crab and shrimp enchiladas, not one of my favorite dishes (not enough crab and the sauce just didn't quite hit me right), partner had the steak huarache (basically a sandwich). We both loved the crustiness of the corn masa flatbread, the flavor of the steak. We also shared a sweet corn tamale, which we also love! At the start would have wished the chips would have been a bit warmed and maybe salted, but we always love them with the salsa.

The Real Deal
awesome, true to form. MEXican restaurant with inventive menu...true Mexican street food--high quality, each dish INDIVIDUALLY prepared. We are always impressed with El Centro. we also did Happy Hour yesterday--and it was great fun at the bar downstairs with Brandon, bartender, who was awesome.

Restaurant Week 2013
Food was fantastic. Great Selection on the restaurant week menu. Had the chicken tamale and beef enchiladas, which were both exceptional. Churros and Chocolate were also fantastic and fresh, however it took them forever to serve them. I believe this was primarily because the servers forgot about us. We sat for probably half and hour after we finished our meal before they asked if we wanted the check. Which is when we reminded them we were supposed to get the churros. All in all the food was amazing, just not the best service. Would still recommend this given that service can at times be hit or miss any were. It did not ruin the experience.
8/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
My boyfriend and I went for restaurant week and it was a great experience! We were seated right away, the service was great, and everything we ate was amazing! We had the cactus tostadas, the carnitas soaps, the carne asada, Baka tacos, and the churros. I don't have a bad thing to say about any of the food. Amazing veggie options too! Ambiance was very lively and they have margaritas specials on Wednesdays! Would definitely go here again!

I can't wait to start on their Tequila collection. My husband and I are already planning on attending their Georgetown opening.
8/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
I went for restaurant week, and although I've been to El Centro two or three other times, I have to say this is the most food I've ever tried! I wish the escabeche tostadas never ended, my huitlacoche enchiladas were really great and my tres leches was to die for. I was really pleased with the food and the dining experience. And, as always, the El Centro Margaritas were delicious.
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Mexican Food
If you want to enjoy really good Mexican food beyond the standard fare, this is a place you must try. The guacamole prepared at the table was very nice. Dishes are reasonably priced.

The food was delicious and my friends and I had a great time after dinner. There was great music and just great energy! I will definitely be back :)

I Don't Like Mexican Food...
...but El Centro is amazing! Totally changed my perspective. Inventive, innovative presentations with fresh-tasting ingredients. The table-side guacamole is fabulous. The decor is decidedly different and unique. Downstairs is best. Service is attentive without being intrusive. Enjoy!
9/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Service was attentive, and thorough. When our carafe of house margarita arrived, it seemed to have almost no tequila in it. The waiter swept it away, brought it back to the bar, and it was much better the second time around. The menu offered a lot of options, the table-prepared guacamole, which can be a little hokey, was delicious and generous. Overall, a fun meal, a tasty meal, an enjoyable meal.

Brunch was DELICIOUS!
Brunch is great here. $35 / per person all you can eat, all you can drink. The food is delicious. If you order the all you can eat/drink brunch they start you with jicama salad, guacamole, and fruit. The guacamole is really good and fresh. The tequila drinks are dangerously strong - the pineapple one was our favorite. The rooftop is perfect, even when it's sunny because they have a retractable roof, so don't worry you will have plenty of shade, but also fresh air. It's hard to imagine you're in the middle of DC. The place is very vibrant and fun. The staff kept the drinks coming and the food was freshly prepared. I would definitely go back!
9/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food, quick service
Very attentive staff, quick food service, quality Baja tacos and tortilla soup. Even made potent mango margarita after stressful day. Will come back again.
9/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
The strawberry margarita was the best I ever had. Everything on the menu looked awesome but the chicken enchiladas were what I chose and they were delicious. They have black refried beans which I had never had before but loved.
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
I love this place!
The food and service here are wonderful and it is affordable. I really love the place and it is a great place to go before seeing a concert at the Black Cat next door. What really sets it apart is the glorious selection of Tequila and Mezcal. There are bars on all floors but see Sam on the main floor. He knows his stuff. Man I really loved the place!
9/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Go on one of the special nights
Can't beat $2 Taco Tuesdays or $5 margarita Wednesday. They know what's up at El Centro DF

All Day Brunch
Went here for the bottomless brunch with five girlfriends and had a blast. Had no idea we'd stayed so long... by the time we left it was after 4. The wait staff was phenomenal... great recommendations, very flexible about the needs of our gluten-free member and very friendly. Food was unique, fresh and very tasty. Highly recommend.

There's no other choice than to go bottomless. A good meal was made great by excellent service from Illiana.

Great for brunch!
I live in the U St area, and have been to El Centro for happy hour but decided to try brunch. The price is amazing for the amount of food/drinks you get. Plus, the food is delicious! Definitely try the seafood enchilada. It's a trendy place for brunch, definitely a younger, hip vibe.

Best Brunch in Town!
This is my favorite brunch in DC! Food is excellent, service is always fantastic and all around a very fun experience! Thank you!

Great spot on U St.
Usually only go there for bar/nightlife, but they actually make spectacular food as well. Would absolutely recommend it to anyone in the area. $5 Margaritas on Wednesdays.

Outstanding service, delicious food
I made brunch reservations for friend's birthday on OpenTable, noting in the comments section that I would like the server to do something special for her birthday. They noted immediately upon our arrival and it was her birthday, the birthday girl loved every bite and that the end of our meal, our server brought out a cake with the candle . Thank you for making her feel so special, El Centro!

A DC must for upscale tex mex
The service was great. Very attentive wait staff and the hostess at the front was very helpful. The queso, though not traditional (less fondu, more make your own quesadilla) and served with tortillas was to phenomenal. Though I didn't have the pleasure of sampling their tequila selection it was very appealing. Also, I'm told dancing starts in the basement at 11 on certain nights, great way to keep you and your date entertained. The chef's specials are definitely the way to go (I had the carne assada myself, definite favorite). The prices are also reasonable. No entree over 20 in itself, great appetizer prices and full table options (guacamole and the aforementioned queso that will happily feed a group of four individually).
11/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
I planned for a Saturday bachelorette brunch. the people here were so accommodating and allowed us to come in early to decorate our table. we pretty much had free reign on decorations (except for confetti which is understandable). they also placed our table downstairs in the tequileria part of the restaurant, which I had no idea this part of the restaurant existed! but there was music playing and we had more than enough room for our 8 guests. our waitress, anna, was amazing and was on point with refilling our bottomless mimosa glasses. we hardly ever reached the bottom! the food was obviously incredible with their bottomless small plates. all in all, it was a great experience and our bride-to-be enjoyed every minute of it! thanks el centro!

I went in without any expectations.
I went in without any expectations. I was just looking for the closest Mexican to my apartment. To my surprise I found my new destination for Mexican! They had a mole special that allowed us to sample the four different mole sauces, each executed to near perfection. I also had no idea it would have such an extensive tequila menu. This only further complimented the meal. Over all I was very impressed and most certainly will be back.

Just what we needed!
My wife and I wanted a quaint restaurant for a Friday, naughty, escape lunch away from the office. El Centro provided all those qualities. The servers were jovial upon entry and remained attentive throughout our dining experience. The shrimp ceviche was special and with our naughty glasses on wine all we needed. We went further and ordered the quesadillas which had a demure flavor. The server recommended the habanero sauce and I do as well it was a flavorful kick to a delicately delectable dish. I would recommend El Centro to all my naughty lunch adventurers.

Great brunch spot
Great food and drinks, our server Jorge was very attentive, just wish we'd been able to get an earlier time!

As a weekly bruncher, I know a lot of DC spots for a great bottomless brunch. The food was amazing and the drinks were great. We had awesome service, and I cant wait to go back and try all the other great looking things on the menu I couldnt fit into this trip!

The bottomless brunch is a real steal and amazing food! Me and my friends had a great time and ending up staying for hours.

Food at a higher quality and selection than your typical Mexican restaurant.
Good service and libations. Great for company.

No happy hour at tables???
Food and service is always great, but took a work group there for early dinner and their was no happy hour at the table at 6:00pm. If I would have known that, I probably would have chosen somewhere else or not had us eat there and just done happy hour instead.
