Who would have thought to try Chech food? Really good

The restaurant is striking
The restaurant is striking with a well-thought-out and attractive layout. The food menu is just varied enough to suit a variety of tastes without being overwhelming; the group I went with loved every dish from the asparagus to the scallops to the arctic char to the short ribs. The drink and wine menus are tomes that intimidated us originally, but between the waitstaff and the personable sommelier, we found something we liked without going out of our price range. I can't wait to go back.

Best CZECH Beer in NY
I know some other restaurants from Ambiente-Group in Czech Republic. All this restaurants offer a good quality.
The food was very good, the portions in "XS". If you are very hungry, you need a whole menue. A cool "Pilsner Urquell" makes it easier :-) Nobody will belife, that they take for a glass of Bercherova 11,00$! Wouw. Not a good marketing, to make Becherovka more populare in NY.
I will come back

Second Brunch - Just as amazing
This is the second time I've been to Hospoda, both times for Brunch on Sunday afternoon, and both times have been absolutely spectacular. Situated in a quiet neighborhood in the Upper East Side it's probably not a place you're going to find without specifically looking for it (or unless you live nearby). With that said however, it's well worth the trip even if you're living elsewhere. While their menu changes seasonally (and perhaps more frequently), everything that I've tasted there has been amazing - from their beer, to their beer-foam cherries. Would absolutely recommend it to others (and have before!)

We sat against the wall and the overhead spot lights glared in our eyes which was uncomfortable
Everything else was greatv

Truly creative celestial cuisine!
Truly creative celestial cuisine! Sauteed cherries in beer foam were worth ordering a second portion-but that is how we felt about each dish. Most tender, moist crispy battered veal schnizel, fois gras, spring pea soup/crawfish-OMG-every dish was heavenly. This is a cuisine at least 2 stratispheres above other "cutting edge" NYC restaurants! Friendly service-not intrusive. Fun, modern funky decor. I love beer and for me this meal was truly great. 2 of us were not beer lovers and chose wine pairings saying "Wow, right on target-each pairing is perfect." They are SF foodies used to Koi and French Laundry, and lauded everything about this very special unique, wonderful Hospoda; adding " We're coming back to Hospoda "For sure!" ...TERRIFIC!

Perhaps NYC's only Czech outpost
Excellent, nicely prepared food in sort of "new Czech" vein. I had the schnitzel - delicious. Restaurant is beautiful: dark walls with white patterns, big windows in the front. Probably a bit noisy on weekends in prime-time (say, from 9:00pm). Service is excellent and there are some fascinating beers to investigate.

Thank you so much for your permanently groving quality services. I love you all, guys!

Casual and elegant at the same time
The place is beautiful and the staff is extremely helpful. In between courses they offer tastes from the chef. No rush from the waiter, extremely relaxed.

Surprisingly delicious and beautifu
We had a really fantastic time at Hospoda, and I would recommend it to anyone. Although it's by no means cheap, the food is delicious and the service friendly - a great place for upscale beers, and a special occasion!
6/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
I went with two friends for the first time to Hospoda. It was more expensive than I'd expected, but we enjoyed the experience and have already recommended it to others. They have the best rye bread I've ever had, among other delightful things to eat.

The food, beer and service
The food, beer and service were outstanding. I would highly recommend!

We enjoyed the hand carved
We enjoyed the hand carved wall decor, service and food at Hospoda. Definitely a bit pricey...The fried cauliflower appetizer was delish, but priced like a main course. I believe it was a special, so I did not see the price until the bill showed up. The Schnitzel was very good as well. We filled out the comment card witht he promise of a free app via email, but we never heard back from Hospoda...

My Evening at Hospoda
Best of all, the food wasn't served in tiny portions. All I'd read/heard was that I would leave the restaurant craving MORE. Not so. Which is great, because the food was very good. The room is lovely. And the service was extraordinarily friendly and informed. A perfect venue to enjoy a unique and seldom enjoyed cuisine.

The food is original and creative...
The problem with the restaurant, the noise level gets overwhelming!!! Few times, I visited, and it was not crowded, it felt very cozy and elegant. When it is full, it is almost painful , and impossible to have a conversation.

The space is very refreshing, with warm lighting and jazzy design all around. I particularly loved seeing the steel beer kegs, which pour drafts deliciously no matter which variety you choose! All of the food was prepared with precision; the presentation is lovely. The only issue with such particularity is that it does take time, and we waited for our entrees, and dessert much longer than expected. However, I'm still sure I'd be delighted to return..!

Very sophisticated cuisine
Very sophisticated cuisine matched by an evolving and outstanding wine list. Try this place!
7/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
I went here for the first time. I had the $65 five course tasting menu. I got to the restaurant early so there was almost no one there. The waiter served me right away but when it started getting a little more busy, he stopped serving me and forgot about me altogether. I waited half an hour and my dessert never came. If I didn't say anything he wasn't going to bring it at all. I don't know what happened to him. Short attention span I guess/gets easily overwhelmed. The food was good but I would not go back.

On the short list of 'Best in UES'
Hospoda is easily one of the best restaurants in the Upper East Side, a real neighborhood gem in bland UES food scene. Fantastic happy hour from 4-7 with excellent deals on both food and beverages. The dinner was top-notch - excellent ingredients creatively prepared and well-executed. The service was outstanding, helpful, not overbearing. The restaurant itself has a modern, clean, crisp ambience and look. Certainly will be back.

My friends and I came for
My friends and I came for restaurant week. The food was fantastic, very creative, and wonderfully presented. The only thing is their knives need to be a little sharper, and the portions are a little small if you're a guy. It was perfect for my friends (I'm a girl with a overly healthy appetite, so I was still a little hungry afterward). The servers were attentive. Although they were a little slow to take our order, we never needed to ask for more water, and yet they were never annoying. The restaurant gave us a free beer cocktail to start with and free pistachio chocolate to end with. It was a quiet restaurant, so my friends and I could hear ourselves think and converse comfortably without raising our voices at all.
7/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Hospoda is a phenomenal find! The food was exquisite - high end gourmet cuisine. The chef sent out many treats from the kitchen - each one very unique and delicious. The presentation was gorgeous. The beers were beautiful. I brought a friend for her birthday and they attached a candle to their signature mugs! The service was excellent. I loved the airy, open feeling of the layout. Next time, I might sit at the high bar in the middle of the room so that I can take it all in. The room noise does get a bit boisterous - but I cannot wait to go back!

My boyfriend and I have been
My boyfriend and I have been coming to Hospoda for over a year - it's our favorite "find" on the UES. Much needed in the neighborhood! Love all the "treats" given throughout the dinner, and the sommelier who worked with us on Friday evening was fantastic and extremely thoughtful. I had inquired about his favorite wines from the NY area, and about half an hour later, he came by with a tasting for us! Great personal touch.
Only suggestion I have is that the portions be a bit bigger, especially for the pricing. Please don't get pretentious :)

I was blown away by the excellet food - beautifully presented. A first class place hidden on a side street. I will be back - SOON! A+++
8/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
We really enjoyed here as a first day arrival of my family from Japan. We went there during the Restaurant Week, both starter and main were delicious. I saw many people were complaining about the portion in their review, however we as a Japanese, felt a portion was moderate. Lastly, we felt the ambience was GOOD so we definitely recommend this restaurant for SPECIAL OCCASSION.

Unexpected for the UES
The food was delicious and the wine and beer pairings complimented it nicely.

Excellent, stylish Czech food
Excellent, stylish Czech food -- not too heavy -- and superb draught Pilsner Urquell, served four ways that taste very different. A cool and different experience.

"Mod" Take on Central Euro Food
Hospoda is a modern, elegant gourmet restaurant with creative, "artsy" decor. The small plates are a great option before a film, and the varied "pours" of Pilsner Urquell make for good tasting/discussion along with some creative non-alcoholic beverages as well (e.g., hops lemonade, ginger beer, etc.). It is not traditional Czech/Slovak or Austrian per se, but some staples of "our" food like duck show up on the constantly varied menu. Hospoda also shows great hospitality by bringing some "on the house" treats every time I have been there.
8/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Visited Hospoda on August 31, 2013. Couldn't have asked for a better experience - food was delicious, restaurant is gorgeous, and staff is friendly and attentive. Love this spot!

Quiet delicious evening
We went on a relatively quiet Wednesday evening. The wait staff is quick and attentive, and my tartare, though a bit small for the price tag, was delicious. My veal schnitzel was generously portioned and delicious. The chef offered a strange cucumber chilled soup as an amuse bouche - It tasted pickled, and was not a great success. They must have over ordered on cucumbers this week, because my schnitzel also came with a cucumber salad which really did not compliment the dish at all.

Pilsner based restaurant
Unique restaurant that focuses on Czech beer, not only to drink, but beer in almost ever dish
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very intriguing decor, nice table settings and seating. Great place for a date. My group (2 people) did the 5-course tasting menu with pairings. The pairings were generally tasty, but I wouldn't say that they added anything to the experience. Only some of them complemented, at best.
The service was excellent, and the chef's treats were great. The butter with cocoa was good, and the tomato amuse bouche was absolutely fantastic. Also wonderful was the "sweet" style pouring of the pilsner urquell. The spirits menu was extensive too, if that sort of thing is your deal.
The tasting menu had tasty dishes. Nothing mind blowing, but good, tasty dishes.

great food, but small portions for the high prices

great evening, food just OK
This is a lovely spot. Hard to describe-has a very diiferent vibe. Modern and warm, casual but also elegant. with beers and Eastern European wines as suggested pairings. The cuisine is '"nouvelle"-so very small portions of exquisite offerings. We all enjoyed the evening-staff was lovely. But as for the food; it was good, but not great and not memorable. Nice place in the neighborhood.

We love this place! Come for a casual bite or a special occasion. The food is delicious, and the addition of two tasting menus is a great idea. Of course the beer is great, but the manager/sommelier has a lot of great ideas as well.

Innovative food paired with beers
This so-called "New American" is also Czech-influenced, especially in the beers that are thoughtfully paired (if one wishes) with each food offering. Flavors are interesting and varied, ingredients fresh and ingeniously brought together. Earnest young wait staff explains every detail of the foods and flavors. Several tiny complimentary taste treats along the way. Altogether, a memorable dinner.

good but pricey
I had the duck which was delicious. I appreciate the small portions as many restaurants overdo portion size, but thought that it was expensive because of this. I liked the amuse bouches.
10/30/2013 5:00:00 PM
Great place... But
Love this place. But, this last occasion, the service was incredibly slow. Friendly and well-intentioned, but basically hardly ever saw our waiter. Almost 45 mins between appetizers and main course. Fortunately, we didn't care as we were having a good time but that shouldn't happen.
11/1/2013 5:00:00 PM
great dining experience
the food, service and ambience were all top notch. unique beer and food selection. worth the trip to the ues. i'm looking forward to going back!
11/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
My husband and I were absolutely blown away by Hospoda's culinary prowess, flavor explosions, and exceptional beer and wine pairings. Service was very friendly and our food/drink came out at the perfect pace. We don't quite have the earning power to be able to afford this place frequently, but for our special occasion it was more than great and I would gladly go back to celebrate a future special occasion.
11/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent food, the nicest staff, knowledgeable sommelier, and beautiful room. All made for a memorable evening and return customers.
11/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
A rather different dining experience. An unusual decor with excellent food and service. The emphasis here is upon beer with several varieties. Small portions and expensive, but milieu worth it once or twice a year.

Czech-ish on the UES
We had a terrific meal here the other night. The place is described in various media as a Czech restaurant, and we expected goulashy things, but found instead that the Czech influence is very understated. Dishes were creative, sophisticated, but not fussy. The servers, and greeters, were enthusiastic and charming. My only ding: The noise level. Quite loud.
11/25/2013 4:00:00 PM
nice small portion well done. We had a great meal and a good time
