Will go again
I haven't been to acme in a while so it was a nice treat to try again. We really enjoyed the okra app for the table. I had the tomato special and calamari which was really good. The grits so good! The frites with the steak a little overwhelming for the dish but my husband really enjoyed the steak.

Acme is tucked into the middle of the block, be sure not to miss it amid all of the surrounding restaurants because the food is truly inspired, creative, and Delicious! I can't wait to go back.

Acme evolves -- beautifully
I'm a local, and the food just gets better and better. I was very impressed with the interesting food and thoughtful but un-fussy service.
8/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Acme never disappoints. The food is creative and delicious, the service spot-on, and the outdoor dining atmosphere is great. The indoors is also nice when the weather makes outdoors impractical, but such a quiet and pleasant outdoor spot is unusual. On this evening, one of the specials was a to-die-for fried okra and peppers with romesco sauce. Amazing.

This is the place where everyone who knows about it goes with a lot of frequency. But if you haven't heard of it (basically through word of mouth; don't think I've ever seen an ad anywhere) you'll never know what you're missing. Friendly, professional staff; great food options; a commitment to local sources but an equal commitment to presenting the best meal possible, always thinking creatively while keeping happy traditions -- had a tomato festival before local-sourced food was the thing; had soft-shell crabs on most recent visit -- it's what you look forward to and what brings you back.
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
We have been there a few times. Food is always very good. The service that last time was slow as we may have hit a busy time. In general, this is very good local restaurant and worth a visit.

We love, love, love Acme,
We love, love, love Acme, and routinely show up with friends for the Tuesday specials. The food is just outstanding. Cannot decide whether the pecan crusted chicken or the flash fried catfish is my favorite. It may take years for me to work out the decision. Great selections of local beer as well.
8/26/2013 5:00:00 PM
I have been to Acme four times in the last two months, and it has always been amazing. The food looks delicious and tastes delicious. The made-to-order corn bread is to die for. The service is outstanding. Last time I went, we had dinner outside, and it was so relaxing and nice... This restaurant really offers a unique experience.

Can't go wrong here
Been to Acme several times. Never a bad meal or service.
8/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
Hands down this is the best brunch within 25 miles. Interesting choices, great service and as friendly as can be. Worth a trip!!!~

Fabulous Sunday brunch for a special birthday occasion. Eggs Benedict with fried green tomatoes and Carolina ham. Yum!
9/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
The doughnuts were warm, sugary
The doughnuts were warm, sugary and absolutely luscious. The Sunday fried chicken was a hit, as was the Eggs Benedict. One our favorite brunch places in the Triangle. It makes the drive from Raleigh worthwhile.

Consistently great food
I had the soft shell crabs. Always great food with new ideas for great NC food.
9/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Friendly AND great food
Warm neighborhood feel and creative local food. Can't ask for more.

We always enjoy this restaurant
We always enjoy this restaurant and our latest visit was no exception. Creative dishes using fresh local ingredients.
9/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food was excellent. Server was very good. Hope to return soon.

Love the food, atmosphere, location
Went on a Wed. nite - 6pm. Was quickly seated in a window area with a view of E.Main street. We shared small plates. The jalapeno cornbread was our favorite (cooked in a cast iron frying pan), really liked the Fried oysters salad (some spinach with several oysters on a long plate). Crispy pork belly plate was darn good as well. We had beer (a saison & a wit) & their sangria special - also very good. The food was really delicious. Toward the end of the evening, a party was seated next to us and -well - that was pretty tight. I'm glad they weren't there the entire evening because there was no way to avoid hearing each other's conversations.
I definitely plan to go again and will put it on my list of good places to take company.
9/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
We went to Acme on a friend's recommendation and were very glad we did! The service was fantastic and knowledgeable. The food was absolutely incredible. We didn't try a single item that missed the outstanding mark. The atmosphere is very nice. We will definitely be back- a lot!
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Always amazing! Tuesday night
Always amazing! Tuesday night $12.95 specials are wonderful. You cannot go wrong with anything to eat here!

Enjoyable Saturday Dinner
We started with the heirloom tomato appetizer special. It was so big, my wife and I split the order. It was delectable and we enjoyed every bite. My wife had the ribeye special and I had the catfish. The catfish was fried and pleasing to eat. I liked the collared greens and rice as well. The peanut sauce on the catfish was extremely spicy and to some degree took away from my enjoyment of the meal. The overall serving was huge with three large pieces of catfish. My wife's ribeye was cook just as ordered and the sauce was very complimentary. We had a good time and enjoyed our meal.

Acme...nothing generic about it
We celebrated my wife's birthday at Acme with friends. We are all foodies from Durham who enjoy finding eclectic eateries, and we decided to venture into Carrboro this past weekend and give Acme a try. We were pleasantly surprised by the knowledgable and friendly waitstaff who recited the evening specials as though they were scholarly writ and not just some hum drum afterthought of a contrived greeting precipitated by usual "what can I get you to drink?".
The food was fresh and every dish was well portioned and extremely tasty. The standout for me was the soft shell crab, but I also enjoyed the ribeye; the cornbread side was a big hit with the entire table. We sampled a few desserts, but my favorite was the bourbon chocolate pecan pie.
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Acme should be Proud
As seen above we think the food/wine is delicious, delectable. And the service was very good. Not excellent but
friendly and comfortable.
9/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Loved the food (especially the soft shell crab special), but didn't like having to give a credit card number to secure my reservation. I was told that they had a waiting list, but when we arrived, there were only 2 other tables occupied inside.
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
We hadn't been to Acme Food and Beverage for years and decided to give it a try again. We were thrilled. The food was
delicious and the service excellent. We can't wait to return.
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
First visit a good one!
Couldn't get a Saturday night dinner reservation (booked!) so tried Acme for Sunday brunch. Excellent choice! Great BIG delicious breakfast plates. Biscuits fluffy & hot! Crazy decadent donut trios. Enormous burgers. Loved the Counter Culture roasted coffee in big Acme mugs - want one of those. It was busy so our server had lots of tables - forgot about coffee refills & the check. But a raised eyebrow caught managers eye and we were well cared for! We'll for sure be back!! Great find for weekends we're in Chapel Hill for ball games.
9/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
I have always loved Acme for its locavore scene. We ate outside on a beautiful fall evening! The spotted mackerel was right on, crisply pan seared and served with a grilled romaine and Caesar dressing. The owner/chef is always looking for something different and he usually finds it! A nice addition were the huge mums on the outdoor patio! The 12.95 Tuesdays are a special gem! Keep up the yummy work! Sign up for their newsletters! They are a kick!

ACME Restaurant is Awesome!
We always eat there when we go to a concert at a nearby venue. It is about a 45 to 60 minute drive for us, but so worth it! We have never been disappointed.
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
Always a hit
Enjoyed yet another meal at Acme - probably my favorite restaurant in the area.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Acme is a very special place, especially on Tuesday nights, when all entrees are $12.99!!! Be sure to get your reservation early. The food is marvelous: fresh, local ingredients, innovative twists on Southern cuisine, a lot of variety. Not a touristy, fancy place at all, just Carrboro-hip!
10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Awesome experience start to
Awesome experience start to finish! We booked on Open Table and got there early to enjoy a drink before dinner. They were able to seat us outside early. The back patio was warm on a beautiful fall night--great ambience with the lanterns and garden. The food was awesome. We split flounder on grilled romaine with butternut squash and that night's cornbread special. The salad was perfectly prepared and the cornbread yummy. We had two desserts--the chocolate pecan pie and butterscotch pudding. All delicious! We would recommend this to anyone visiting the Chapel Hill-Carrboro area.

Great for a date
I found Acme through Yelp reviews and with such good reviews we decided to try it. We had to try to squeeze a stroller in but the hostess was able to find a table with enough room so we could watch him and enjoy our dinner. Our waiter gave excellent suggestions and they were all winners. I had a Kentucky Lemonade and we shared fried okra, an oyster salad and scallops on a bed of whipped cauliflower and Gruyere. It was all delectable and our cappuccinos were to die for. I will definitely return to Acme and I want to try it for brunch in the future.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
I love Acme and Sunday brunch did not disappoint. Get the doughnuts!

Another great Acme dinner
We celebrated my wife's birthday at Acme. Food was outstanding and the wine was excellent as well.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
This is one of my new favorite restaurants. The food was extra tasty, service was great and the atmosphere was perfect.

Fresh flavor in Carboro
Ordered the specials… and they were special indeed! Hot crusty cinnamon walnut cornbread arrived in the cast iron skillet topped with dollop of honey black pepper butter. Wow. NC Red Drum delectable. Hubby's fried chicken over 'taters, mushroom gravy, & butter peas comforting rich & flavor-filled! Service always warm & friendly, helpful, not rushed. Can't wait for next visit — brunch, lunch, or dinner. It's all outstanding.

Great Quality Food
We rarely eat out and when we do we try to stick to restaurants that focus on local foods. ACME does a great job of highlight local foods in an accessible atmosphere. Even better, Tuesday's the main entrees are reduced in price so we ended up getting four entrees between the two of us. Great restaurant, great service, and if it's nice weather, be sure to sit out back.
10/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good food, but a bit pricey.
One app., two entrees, three alcoholic beverages plus tip - $95. Food good but didn't blow us away. Nice ambiance; a little cramped. It's tiny Carrboro though so that's understandable.
11/1/2013 5:00:00 PM
Delicious & varied
Excellent food & service. Menu was unique & varied
11/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great date night dinner
I went on a date with my fiance, and we both had a great time. We both asked the server questions about the menu, and he was very open to sharing his thoughts and gave us great suggestions. I would recommend getting reservations.

Return to favorite
We had not been back to Acme for several months. We made reservations for 6 this time and had a very good table location, service was somewhat lacking, although they were quite busy.
Food was excellent for all and the special cornbread with pumpkin & bacon was awesome.
Great to see Acme keeping it great.
11/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were seated immediately although we were early for our reservation. Waitress gave us a minute to collect wits after having been at busy art gallery opening. She made some suggestions, and we ordered. It was hard to select meal because so much sounded so good. Wine and bread arrived forth with and then our meals came in a reasonable, fairly prompt fashion. The orders included fried green tomatoes, fried oyster salad, catfish, and steak frites. Everything was scrumptious. We had resolved to each order something different so we could at least see if not taste other entrees. My glass of muscadet was very good. Prices were very fair so I would say this is an excellent restaurant that gives creative, tasty food at a very fair price.
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
Absolutely love the food at ACME, just one small request that you be more generous with your drink size, especially the bloody mary, it is ridiculously tiny. A bloody mary should always be in a tall glass, pretty please?!
11/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
One of the best restaurants
One of the best restaurants in Chapel Hill and Carrboro areas.
11/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
Food was good. My fish tasted good but was stringy. The Burgers were good and properly cooked. Wine list is excellent.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
I love Acme. The food is always
I love Acme. The food is always delicious, the service is great, and they let you make reservations for smaller parties! They always have a good special on the menu but their staples keep you coming back.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
Always really good!
The great thing about Acme is that they are very well established, and yet they never relax their standards. I've been eating at Acme for years - for dinner, or brunch, or their famous wine dinners - and I continue to be impressed by the high quality of both the food and the service. As a side note, it is a very good idea to make a reservation if you go there on a Tuesday - Acme's "Recession Tuesday" special pricing is clearly a big attraction.
11/25/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great antidote for too much turkey
Went the day after Thanksgiving, looking for a polished, relaxed dining experience with interesting food. Got a lot more than I bargained for. Everything was fantastic.
11/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
Acme continues to deliver
The Acme is mostly a neighborhood gem, it has been around for a long time and like any restaurant over time has had some ups and downs. Now it must be mostly up. People are packing the place because the food and wine is reasonably priced and the food is better than it should be. So prepare to be surprised and give the Acme a try.
11/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
Nice local spot
Recently had a business dinner here. Great balance between not too "fru fru", but also not too casual. Good selection of dishes and wines which were not ridiculously marked up. Service was very good and overall ambiance was lively, but not so loud that you couldn't carry on a conversation. I will definitely return.
12/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
A favorite in Carrboro. Always seem to have an interesting special or two on the menu along with some tried and true favorites (pecan-crusted chicken). The only drawback is the lack of a "hug-the-chef" option! ;-) The seasonal shad roe appetizer was ridiculously good - someone in the kitchen deserved a hug for that effort!
