Great Casual yet Authentic Meal
I had my first experience with Samba Taste of Brazil during Summer 2012 for Mpls-St.Paul Restaurant Week. Having studied in Brazil during college, I have expectations that surpass the overpriced churrascaria experience of the Fogo de Chaos and Texas de Brazils of the world. In Samba Taste of Brazil, I was seeking the simple, authentic tastes of the kilograma dining that I so enjoyed while in the Portuguese-speaking South American country. Samba Taste of Brazil surely delivered. Located in the charming downtown Hopkins area, street parking was simple, my meal arrived to the table quickly, and the taste was reminiscent of that to which I'd grown familiar during my time in the land of samba. Bonus: The owner is Brazilian, not corporate.

Tucked away in the little town of Hopkins, Minn., is the Brazilian flavor of Samba. Located on the small town's mainstreet, it's a fun spot for groups, welcoming to families and kind of romantic. Fantastic food (you must try the cheese bread!), wonderful desserts (the flan is to die for) and one of the best selections of Brazilian wine/beer I've found, this place has found a spot in my heart -- or more notably, my stomach!

I took my mom here for her
I took my mom here for her birthday, along with my cousin and his wife. Everyone loved their meal. The only thing I'd say is that my rice had some hard pieces, and the collard greens very bland. Other than that the steaks were done nicely and had very nice flavor.

Great food and good atmosphere
Great food and the service was prompt and personal. The server took the time to explain what made brazilian food unique and specialty dishes. Our whole group enjoyed their meals. Prices were medium to high but definitly worth it.

Excellent lunch spot
This is a great place for lunch - the food is really good, at a great price, and it does not take long to arrive. Also, you have the benefit of a small store where you can buy Brazilian food and extras to take home

Samba Taste of Brazil - A Surprise
Just down Main Street from the Hopkins Art & Theater Complex, this little restaurant & limited Brazilian grocery was a very pleasant surprise. The tomato & cheese pastel was perfect. I had the seafood Moqueca, which was excellent. Everyone in our party of four had good food. A special treat was a Brazilian guitar player singing softly in the background. Good food, good service, good prices. This is not a fancy place, but we will definitely recommend it to anyone.

Second time at this restaurant. Enjoy the traditional Brazilian dishes. Especially liked the arugala flat bread appetizer (i suppose this isn't so Brazilian) and the Atalado.

Taste of "Home"
We lived in Brazil for a few years. One of the things we missed was the food. Samba has wonderful dishes that we really enjoyed. Very authentic and delicious.
7/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
This is a true neighborhood gem! We were made immediately to feel as though we were personal guests in the home of the proud owner. The menu is varied, has something for everyone, has many Brazilian delights to explore and the each dish we tried was very good. The wine list is nice, has many things uncommon to this area. Not sophisticated tasters, we kept it simple/inexpensive and were very happy with our choices. The live music was fabulous. We went with three generations of family, all were pleased, and we will definitely return. There is much to enjoy at Samba.

Authentic Brazilian Cuisine
We lived in Brazil for 14 years. We loved the food and prepare Brazilian style meals fairly often. We have eaten in other Brazilian restaurants that do not serve authentic Brazilian food (including some very pricey ones). This was our third or fourth visit to your restaurant and we brought three family guests. Everyone enjoyed it. The selections in your grocery section are wonderful as well. The service was excellent, and the ambiance vibrant and conducive to a very pleasant meal and conversation. Prices are reasonable.
Thank you! We will be back!!

A reason to go to Hopkins
I love this place. I found it through Restaurant Week a couple years ago. I've been back several times, and the owner always remembers my husband and me. The food is amazing. It's much cheaper than most Brazilian food in town. Take note, it is NOT a Brazilian grill with the unlimited meat. I've been to Fogo de Chao and Rodizio Grill. I prefer Samba.

Found this nice little Brazilian restaurant in Hopkins and decided to try it out. Glad we did! Charming and fresh with some interesting menu items. Had some excellent soup, good salad with hearts of palm and tried the dry beef Escondidinho. A Brazilian Shepherds Pie with sauteed meat, with mashed yucca and cheese. Really enjoyed it. Will definitely go back to try some of the other offerings!
8/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
I have been going to Samba for two years, and the food continues to be incredible! The feijoada, a black bean & pork stew, is full of flavor and soothes the soul. The Brazilian pizzas are delicious, especially if you get on with soft catupiry cheese. It is not to be missed. The roasted meats are full of flavor, and the moqueca has a wonderful array of flavors. It is almost impossible not to be satisfied at Samba.
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food, especially the Brazillian selections! Also great music. The waiter was informative about the unique food selections and made excellent recommendations. Loved the red sangria too!!

Great Find for Lunch
I recommend Samba if you are looking for a delicious, reasonably-priced lunch. Hopkins location is easily accessible anywhere in the southwest Metro. If you are looking for something different from the normal lunch fare, well prepared, try Samba. If you wish you could find a table in a quiet setting without televisions hanging from the ceiling, discover Samba. Not fancy, but you won't pay for that, either. I haven't tried Samba for dinner, but I look forward to the opportunity.

WOW! What a find!
This place is a gem in a coffee shop like atmosphere that anyone who dines out often like we do (my wife and I go out to dinner 4-5 times a week) will surly appreciate, it was not pretentious although with the quality of food they could have have been. We felt that the gentleman who was serving us could have been the owner, with the knowledge and the care that he took care of us. I am not that savvy with Brazilian food, but if this is what the traditional food tastes like, then I am SUPER excited to go for the World Cup as my wife and I are planning to do. Please don't tell anyone about this place as my wife and I would like to keep it secret so it doesn't change. We have already told a dozen people and will continue to do the same. Golden!

A fun find for us!
We tried Samba based on their Open Table Restaurant Week menu, and it was delicious, especially the black bean stew! Nice and quiet, with attentive servers. Definitely going back to try some more things!

Friendly staff and good value
Dined with 5 frequent travelers. Enjoyed the friendly staff and ambience. The appetizer flatbreads were loved by everyone. Main course selection is broad with good to very good food.

A Very Pleasant Surprise
Always on the lookout for unique neighborhood restaurants, my wife and I were excited to find Brazilian food in Hopkins. Our excitement was well warranted because the restaurant is a winner. The feijoada and bean soup were delicious and perfect on a chilly night. The fried yucca is not to be missed; we could eat them all night! The attentive, friendly service topped off the delightful experience. We will be regulars.

Authentic Brazilian Fare
Joe and his family serve up delicious dishes from his family's recipes from Brazil. He is a delight in his own right. It's always a good thing when the owner of a restaurant is working the floor and charming the crowd.

Delightful Brazilian food
My favorite is the shrimp moqueca. The wines are moderately priced and very enjoyable.
11/3/2013 4:00:00 PM
This is a great neighborhood restaurant in downtown Hopkins, just 2 blocks from the center for the arts and movie theater. It is a family run business with authentic Brazilian food. Prices are reasonable for both food and wine; a real find! Our service was very good, food excellent and live music capped off the evening. I would highly recommend Samba.
