A splendid local eatery with friendly and efficient service; a pleasing relaxed atmosphere - not noisy; the food is both well-prepared and presented (I usually choose the poached trout which is always tasty, and well-supported with assorted vegetables); the menu is sufficiently varied to accommodate most tastes and is reasonably priced; the wine list is international enough to satisfy all but the most demanding of imbibers.
My wife and I always enjoy our visits....alone or with good friends.

Great value for prix fixe
The waitstaff was very helpful and attentive. We had the prix fixe meal and think it is a great value; nice food, healthy portions and a great price. Worth going early to dine there.

Delicious fish in a delightful cafe
Our first time at Alamo Square Seafood, but definitely not our last. The food was plentiful and deliciously prepared. A good selection of fish dishes to choose from -- so much so, that it was hard to choose. The restaurant itself is quite sweet, but also sophisticated. Recorded jazz plays in the background, candle lighting completes the scene. The maitre 'd /waiter (owner maybe?) is a joy! We are eager to come back and work our way around the menu. This is a keeper!

Nice food and a friendly ambience
Nice food and a friendly ambience helps to make this a most refreshing change from the overpriced places that surround Davies Hall and the Opera House.

Great Spot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Looking forward to going again!
4/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
The food was lovely and the server was great, but the music was a little too clubby for the atmosphere. We're young, but we would have enjoyed our experience more if the music were a little less for dancing and more for mood setting.

Pleasant dining at reasonable price
Delightful neighborhood restaurant--we wish it were in our neighborhood! We took advantage of the prix fixe (three courses for $14.50), which is an amazing bargain. Service was friendly and competent but not intrusive. Food was well prepared and tasty. The highlight was the green peppercorn sauce on our fish.

Great food, great price
Free corkage Wednesday brings a lot more people in that usual. Although the tables weren't entirely full, we still had to wait for a table due to inadequate staff. We never got the bread and pesto dip that they bring to you. I'm a regular at this place because the food is great quality, perfect portion size, and although they have increased the prices (yes, I've noticed), it's still reasonable.

Truly a neighborhood gem!
My wife and I have dined at Alamo Grill twice in the last few weeks. The dishes we had were all well-prepared and delicious: soup, salad, and entries. Especially noteworthy is the fact that the vegetables are actually cooked. Most restaurants today serve them either raw or nearly raw. The service was very attentive. The restaurant offers a daily prixe fixe dinner between 5-7pm. This is an outstanding neighborhood gem which offers great dishes at good value. It has already become a favorite of ours.

A Neighborhood Experience
As visitors to SF, it was nice to have an authentic neighborhood experience-so friendly and interested in where we were from. So enjoyable that I have already told a friend who lives there to go.

Service & Food is wonderful!
We have eaten here many times and always very good. Fish specials and wine paring is great!

Was a neighbor, now a fan
I live very close to ASSG, had frankly not heard raves about it and had not bothered to visit, despite living close by.
We had salmon and trout in some of their simple, fresh, delicious preparations.
Very tasty. Not too expensive. Not too busy. I will definitely be back.

Second time I have been to Alamo Square while on a trip to San Fran.
This restaurant is a hidden gem and very fairly priced for the great food! I had grilled Snapper which was done to perfection and a very nice appetizer salad featuring pears and blue cheese.
I would highly recommend!

Delicious Food and wine
Went to Alamo Square Seafood Grill and was so very pleased not only by the food but by the service. I am someone who really appreciates customer service. The staff here did not disappoint. They were helpful and courteous. I was there with my family and they all loved their food. I am not much of a seafood person as my family is so I had pork dish and it was so tender and flavorful. Everyone else loved their fish. I will go back again for sure, This is definitely a neighborhood gem.

Amazing bang for your buck!
Great food for a good price, only a block from Alamo square. My wife had the chicken and I had the swordfish. She proclaimed it was some of the best chicken she's ever had. I enjoyed my meal thoroughly. We both had drinks ,dessert and our bill ended up under $60! We got good value, service, food at the Alamo square, not much more you can ask for.

Great Food, Cozy Place
I've gone to this restaurant maybe a dozen times since discovering it. It's a cozy place that is off the beaten path. I love the option of choosing from a rotating list of 5 different fish and pairing it with one of their many sauces and cooking methods. Grilled with a peppercorn sauce is great.. I gave 3 stars for the food only because there is so much competition for restaurants. If you are unsure, go to this restaurant. It it reasonably priced and you won't regret it.
8/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to the Alamo Square. The service was exceptional. We both chose a fresh fish entree. Not only were the dinners outstanding they were incredible value. We also took advantage of Monday's 50% off a bottle of wine and received a complementary desert to complete our dinner.
We will definitely return to this restaurant the next time we visit the city.

an unexpected delight
I went with 7 friends to BYOB night at ASSG & was pleasantly surprised by this charming French-inspired Seafood Restaurant tucked away near Alamo Park. Truly a Hidden Gem! Only 1 person in our party had been there before, and we thanked her profusely by the end of the night. It was very busy, and we were amazed how 2 servers managed the entire floor (I counted around 40 seats). The head server (we later learned) was the owner, Andre - who seamlessly entertained every table in the bustling, yet cozy, dining room. He cracked us up (in English and French) so much we ended up sharing some of our wine with him, and why not? FREE corkage!! Great Host, Absolutely perfect Fish Preparations, delicious starters & desserts, Amazing Experience!

The fresh seafood was well
The fresh seafood was well prepared and delicious. We ate here twice in our 3 day trip because the food was so good!

This is a charming, local
This is a charming, local restaurant with a welcoming ambiance and very good food at reasonable prices. My only personal cavil is that noise levels rise as tables fill, making conversation more of an effort, especially with companions who are across or further down the table. However, coming early (5:30 - 6:00) finds a much quieter room.
8/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Cozy neighborhood place.
This was the third time at Alamo Grill. I've gone early so I found parking okay but it gets difficult later on. We weren't greeted when we came in so just stood and waited until someone in the kitchen acknowledged us. Once seated though we had wonderful service and our waiter was very accommodating. One of our party couldn't eat the dessert on the $14.50 early bird dinner (5:30-7:00) so he brought fresh strawberries and whipped cream instead. Service was prompt and my friends thought it was a real find in restaurants. The prices have gone up a bit but it is still reasonable. The bread first served seemed dry but the next basket was much better. Mussels and salmon were delicious. I'll be visiting again when I am in San Francisco.

great little find
Food was excellent and very good value for money. Options well explained by staff who were extremely busy but still had time to give good service. Would definitely return.

Great neighborhood restaurant
But also worth a trip as well. Great service and food. Have been going there since it open several years back and has always been consistently great. Highly recommend.

Great value and outstanding food
I love this restaurant! I have been here twice with a group of business associates, and have loved it both times. Great value on Wednesdays when you can bring your own wine with no corking fee!

Why go anywhere else?
Simply stated, the Alamo grill is one of our favorite go-to restaurants. It has that comfortable neighborhood feeling that makes us feel right at home every time we go.
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
We enjoyed the food and service at this restaurant. I would definitely recommend it to others, the snapper was great!

Just Right !
An old friend was in town and I was looking for an un-frenetic spot where we could relax and catch-up. He's a pescetarian, so seafood had to be featured.
Alamo Square Seafood Grill fit the bill perfectly. He had the trout and was very happy and I had the roasted pork tenderloin with mashed potatoes and green beans, which was excellent. We shared a classic creme brulee for dessert.
On a Thursday night it was quiet enough to talk at normal volume, the service was informal but very attentive, and the ambience soothing.
Don't go here if you're looking for an inventive menu, or an impressive see-and-be-seen scene. Do go when you are looking for well-prepared food and solid service in a low-key neighborhood setting.
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
I have been coming to Alamo Square for years. It is a cozy, welcoming spot I love to go to with friends. If you like fish, you will love the food.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
My party of four thoroughly enjoyed our time at Alamo Square Seafood Grill. it is a great little neighborhood gem. The food was flavorful and well presented. The wait staff was attentive and although busy by the end of the meal, continued to check if we had any needs. we went early so it was very quiet and service was excellent. Later it got busier and the noise level went up but never above a conversation level. the crab cakes and the stew were excellent. I would recommend it to my friends and I plan to go back.

A bit of a squeeze, but worth it!
Great find! The staff knows their food and made perfect recommendations. Some tables are a bit tight, but not uncomfortably so. The Weds night "corking fee waiver" night is really fun...
11/19/2013 4:00:00 PM
Cute little place!
The lady and I swung through here before going a concert and found the place to be quite charming. Admittedly, 5:30 is a little earlier than the usual crowd, but we were treated to very good service and food quality for a very reasonable price.
11/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
relaxing and delicious
the night before thanksgiving we were in search of a place for supper which was relaxing, good food, and allowed for conversation. we found it at the seafood grill. the service was attentive but not intrusive. the food was delicious and fresh.
we recommend this restaurant and will return frequently.

Loved everything about our meal at Alamo Square Grill -- would highly recommend to anyone.

We arrived 15 minutes before our reservation, told the Maitre d' that we had a theater curtain to catch and he made it happen.

Dinner before the show
At last minute we decided to have dinner before the show, on a Saturday night. We knew the restaurants close to the theater would be all booked. So we looked few blocks away. So glad we did.The prices were just right, $15 for a prix fix dinner which included soup or salad, the night we were there the entree was rainbow trout and dessert. It was just right, Will be back
