Amazing experience with the
Amazing experience with the 9 course tasting menu paired with wines and sake. They did everything to accomadte my friend who is gluten free. And when we decided that we didn't like sake, they substituted another wine instead. It is the kind of service and quality food with presentation you expect for the price.

Must try at least once in your life
It's a special occasion place without a doubt - a prix fix menu that will take you at least 2 hours to savor. It's a singular and amazing experience similar to a visit to Japan in its attention to detail. I would liken it to The French Laundry in its beautiful presentation and clarity of vision. Worth every one of the many pennies it cost!

Unbelievable. Didn't hold back on trying all the obscure sake they had and had a 9 course meal, and for the 4 of us it was $900. It was crazy worth it, We drank a ton, ate the best meal of our lives. So worth it. The service was amazing!

A very discreet restaurant
A very discreet restaurant in the heart of suburban LA.
We were welcomed and ushered to our table.
And then it all began.
An extravaganza of the most exquisite fish and fine food.
This is definitely one for repeating!
PS It was a delight to meet Niki at the end of our meal
4/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
n/naka better than kaiseki in Japan
Loved the personal innovative touches to this modern kaiseki menu. Will definitely go again.
4/30/2013 4:00:00 PM
I would liken our experience to The French Laundry......Outstanding in every aspect, we can't wait to go back.

The food was stunning and outstanding. This is a must eat and is an unknown gem. The service was a bit hit or miss. The wait staff could have used more training on timing and clearing.

Amazing meal once a again!
Chef Nikki deserves to be nominated for a James Beard award! Each course was perfection. I've been here three times so far, and every single dish was memorable and delicious. I give her tons of credit for the amount of dedication and creativity she puts into her cooking. This is by far my favorite restaurant in LA the past 3 years since I first dined here.
5/11/2013 4:00:00 PM
I say 'Hidden' as I would not have heard about the restaurant except that I too have a vegetable garden that is cared for by Farmscape.
We had 14 course tasting. Much sushi and the best EVER.
They have an 8 course also--but you HAVE to have reservations!
We will go back again for the 8 course.
5/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
This was another very enjoyable evening from the start to finish. We will return for another special occasion soon.
5/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
N/naka blew us away. It was the BEST Japanese /sushi we've ever tasted outside Japan, ever!! (I grew up in Tokyo). Each course were delicate, balanced, with a wow factor. Presentation was impeccable and beautiful. The service was extremely attentive, streamlined yet low key. Simply fantastic!
6/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was one of the very best
This was one of the very best meals I have ever had in my life. If the Michelin Guide doesn't come back to LA just to give this place three stars, it will be a travesty.
6/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
The experience at N/Naka this weekend was perfection. The service was the best I've ever had. The food and the plating were brilliant. This was certainly the best way to celebrate an anniversary. Kudos to the chef.
6/8/2013 12:00:00 AM

We had a wonderful time thanks to the Chef's creations. All our guests had never seen such beautiful dishes before. It was a work of art.

Great found in LA
There are only a few kaiseki restaurants in the bay area. Spotted n/naka from a magazine and decided to drop by on our way to LA. Great found. Really good & carefully prepared (and pretty) food. The day I went there was a big party there and they talked really loud. I tried not to let it ruined the experience.
6/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
The owner & chef Ms. Nakayama
The owner & chef Ms. Nakayama has taken the Japanese cuisine to another level. We adore the efforts & details that she has demonstrated in each dish. However, it will require someone care about fine dining to appreciate her efforts & talents. We think it Is one of the best private dining place in Los Angeles. Salute to Niki & her team，，好味！
6/25/2013 4:00:00 PM
no one does it better
expensive, but exceptional price/performance. I would put it as the top restaurant in the LA area (note that "top" is not qualified by "Japanese", though it is that also ...). The dinner consists of a tasting menu, so lots of small courses. What is really amazing is that each course really is quite different from all the rest. A perfect fine dining experience.
6/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was just out of the world amazing. The chef did amazing job creating a wonder 13 course meal for my husband and I on his birthday. I just wished it didn't end.
6/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Awesome Special Occassion Place
9 courses for $110 is a steal when you consider the caliber of food. For a special occassion this was an amazing experience. I won't go into details of the dishes since it changes too often, but there are some winner that seem to show up in most of the other reviews, such as the abalone pasta with truffles. My recommendation would be to come here before it blows up.Chef Niki Nakayama coming to each table at the end is a nice touch that doesn't happen anymore in "celebrity" chef restaurants -- which this should be considered in the same category.
7/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Fine dining meets fine arts!
Just a wonderful dining experience from start to finish! We were greeted by an amazing staff who attended to each and every detail. The 9 course omakase was amazing! I have tried many an omakase throughout Los Angeles and this one takes top honors! Beautiful presentation, deliciously coordinated and balanced, and just a pleasure to enjoy creation after creation. Thank you so much Niki for creating a masterpiece of a dinner. Complete with delicious fresh organic veges from her OWN garden! Now that is a great touch. Thank you Niki for also coming out to say hi. We followed this amazing experience from Arcadia to the Westside now! We'll be coming back soon!
7/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had the nine course tasting menu and had one with the wine pairing. You should like "fish" sushi and shell fish. I put fish in quotes because not all sushi is made with raw fish. The sushi rice was exceptionally good. A few of the courses were unique and new to me and I am Japanese. Overall, the food and service were both outstanding. We will definitely return. This restaurant now rates with Melisse, Valentinos, Arnie Morton's, Maestros, and Patina as one of our favorite special occasion restaurants.,

As good a meal as we have
As good a meal as we have had in LA. Truly an extraordinary experience.
8/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
A real gem of a restaurant
This was my second visit to n/naka and I came here for my friend's special birthday dinner. It was as amazing as the first time. The food presentation was exquisite and so unique. The raw fish was fresh and delicately presented. Nikki the owner took time out from her busy kitchen to introduce herself and make sure everything was fine. It was a real dining experience and I highly recommend this gem of a restaurant.
8/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Upcoming modern Japanese delight
Even though the restaurant is relatively new, the Chef is very imaginative and intelligent with the combination of favour and plating. It is more trendy than the other long established modern/fusion Japanese restaurants in LA. However, the sushi rice and technique could be further improved. Shall look forward to experiencing the wonderful culinary delight next summer.
8/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Best Japanese anywhere
If you're looking for an extraordinary evening and you're a foodie and you have no budget this is a must...as is the wine pairings...a most memorial evening....
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
N/Naka is an elegant, thoroughly adult restaurant serving very refined, tiny bites of unusual and beautiful Japanese food. The wine flights chosen by the staff are perfectly matched to each course. And as you would expect, it is wildly expensive!
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
It's a work of art
Food presentation is superb. Service, by Jeffrey, is top notch.
8/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
The staff at N/Naka created an amazing experience for my fiancee and me! A careful curation of food and drink that I will not soon forget. They truly deserve a sixth star!
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Incredible dining experience
Dining at n / naka might be one of the very best eating experiences I've ever enjoyed. Every dish was delicious (my wife and I had the 13-course dinner) ... Proportion, delicacy, attention to detail, taste and flavor dimensions, the sequencing, the wine pairing, the presentation ... everything was superb. Very Japanese but not too Japanese-y if you know what I mean ... This dinner would appeal to anyone, gaijin or otherwise.
Pricey but worth it for a special occasion.
We plan to go back!
P.S. a chef who puts uni sushi at the end of the meal is a genius, in my opinion.
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Took a friend for her birthday. Special occasion, and was worth it. Service was wonderful. Everything was at a relaxed pace, but we never felt as if we were waiting for the next course. Very relaxing . The portions are what some might consider small but by the end, of the 9 course meal we were full, but not overly. All the creations were delicious, some downright incredible. A pasta with abalone, fish roe and truffles OMG!!!!!!.....Sushi course was understated, but some of the best I've ever had. Incredible fish on slightly warm loosely packed rice..sublime!!!!..My friend had the wine flights option with the different courses and that was wonderful..Great wines and sake.....It was expensive, but we walked away very happy...

The food here is exquisite!
The food here is exquisite! We have been here numerous times and each time has been an amazing experience! This is the place where I have rediscovered the joy of eating sushi. Every time after dining here, I never cease to crave for more. Bravo!!
9/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Quiet & Understated
The meal was enjoyable. At times we had to wait between course; without anything to ponder over because dishes were taken away. We couldn't discuss its merits and lack of for these dishes. We noticed young couple table over who must felt the same as pulled out their cell phone.
We celebrated my birthday; a gift from our children.
9/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Incredible meal and experience
My partner and I chose n/naka for our anniversary dinner, and are thrilled we did. Our dinner charted 13 courses of culinary bliss, arranged to ebb and flow from course to course with an extraordinary balance of flavors and textures, and a delightful seasonal awareness. Those courses were coupled with consistently insightful, attentive service from restaurant staff. I would recommend n/naka to anyone interested in culinary exploration and mastery as one of the most delicious meals I've experienced in L.A.

Amazing Omakase dinner..13 courses, each BEAUTIFUL

Simple, Elegant, and Delicious
I came here for my friend's birthday and we all had the 9-course omakase with wine pairing. I highly recommend doing the 9-course with the wine pairing. Each dish is really thought out and the wine truly brought out the flavors that made the dishes even more amazing than they already were. Everything was delicious. I particularly liked the sashimi and sushi courses and the pasta. The pasta was divine. I thought the dessert and the meat course were both okay, but still good. Each plate was beautifully presented and the service was excellent but not intrusive. I would highly recommend this place. The chef even came out at the end and wished my friend a happy birthday. It was very sweet of her.
10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
I've read many reviews regarding this restaurant. The food and presentation lived up to its reputation. Some reviewers stated they were not full after the meal, but I found the entire course to be a perfect portion. I wasn't stuffed, but I was full after all 9 courses. The chef was very sweet to have greeted us at the end of the meal, added a personal touch. The waitress was very nice and explained each dish. Only confusion was the valet. Although our parking ticket was validated we still had to pay the full price which is confusing, because you usually don't pay the full price just tips if validated. The only moment that made the night unpleasant.
10/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
A superb dining experience.
This restaurant is first class on all levels. Simple interior with only about 8 tables. Can get slightly noisy if a parger party is chatty. That would be the only slight negative. The service is 100% correct. The food is artfully presented, super fresh and completely amazing. The 13 course menu was a 3.5 hour experience that didn't disappoint on any level.
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Definitely an Experience
Outstanding food and presentation. Did the 13 course menu and wine pairing. It was interesting and fun to see what was next and how it was presented. They did I nice job of pairing whites, reds and sakes. Our server had a very strong accent, so honestly some of the dish compositions were lost in translation, but nothing was ever to our distaste. Pretty amazing accomplishment given it's 13 different presentations.
Only negative was that it's very small and we had a loud group next to us. Found it to be a little annoying. A place like this doesn't feel like it should be loud.
Ultimately, we agreed that it may be te type of place you go once and then seek out the next experience elsewhere, but it was still a pretty cool one at that.
10/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
I treated my friend to this exquisite tasting menu for her birthday, but we both left feeling like royalty. Each course was introduced: clear soup, steamed, beef, sushi, etc. Our favorites were the oysters, hairy crab, dashi broth with sea bass in a teapot! This healthy way of eating means we left satisfied, but not as though we had overeaten. Can't wait to return!
11/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
What can I say... 13 courses. 3 hours. This was an amazing experience. Truffled uni pasta. Crab. Some of the best sushi I've had. And the wagu beef course was just melt in your mouth delicious. Her soups are heaven. All seasonal fresh produce and meat. Chef Nikki is my hero. I really can't wait to go again. Each course was a delicious work of art. Outstanding. Run to this restaurant.
11/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
Go - it is wonderful
I put this in my top 3 restaurants in LA area (the others are Providence and Melisse). I do not normally like Japanese food and find sushi at most places something I would rather not eat, but here, wow, everything was great. I am already planning on returning - once I save enough money. If you can go, then do so!
11/12/2013 4:00:00 PM
From first to last, it was a finely crafted opus. Each item was explained, down to the tiniest detail. The seafood was wonderful and perfectly cooked, highlighted by homegrown vegetables. The sake was a smooth compliment to the meal, and the pace was just right. The rice with the sushi was the best ever. There were maybe 16 courses, which change by the season, and the chef graciously greets each table at the end. All in all, we thought it lived up to all the hype and then some.
11/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
An Experience Worth Having
My significant other declares: Guy Savoy, French Laundry and N/Naka are her most memorable dining experiences. I have not been to Guy Savoy, but I have been to the French Laundry and other equally lauded restaurants in NY and Paris, and I can say that N/Naka can stand with them toe to toe. It is fine dining without the stuffiness, but with great care towards a comfortable and pleasant dining experience courtesy of the staff and chef/owner. Add this extraordinary restaurant to your bucket list.

N/ Naka Provides Elegant Dining
I took the fiancee here on a Thursday night to get away from our usual Westside hot spots. The ambiance is low-key and simple, allowing the food to shine.
The kaiseki diner means you place your faith in Chef Niki Nakayama's expert hands for a traditional multi-course Japanese meal. Don't let the small portions fool you: by the end of the night you will feel like you have eaten, due to the diversity of the tastes delivered to your table by the ultra-friendly and knowledgable staff. Standouts were Mushimono (Hairy Crab) and Shiizakana (Spaghettini with shaved black abalone and summer truffles).
Special place for a special occasion or just if you want to enjoy fantastic food lovingly prepared.
11/20/2013 4:00:00 PM
A foodie's gem
This was my second visit to n/naka, and it was as enjoyable and wonderful as the first. I cannot do justice by describing the presentation and taste of each dish. The sashimi was high quality fish that melted in your mouth. I highly recommend n/naka for a special occasion or a romantic evening, and I look forward to dining there again.
11/25/2013 4:00:00 PM
Thee best in LA
There's good and then there is N Naka. This is truly a one of a kind place. Let's be honest, with only a 13 course menu as an option it can't be anything but one of a kind.
When you go a second time they will know what you had and give you an all new experience!
So don't go just once.
11/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
A 3 hour dining experience not to be missed. All of the ingredients were fresh! Received a phone call a couple of days prior to confirm and told they order ingredients for the number of people. Presentation is just as important as the taste and the chef is outstanding. Our waiter asked to wait at the end, that the chef would like to see us. Never had that happen, she just wanted to say thank you and if we enjoyed her food. Great place!!
