The food here is outstanding, and it's a bonus that it's inside the Kemper Museum. The atmosphere is fun and relaxed, with large windows and tons of art. The servers all know their stuff, and everything on the menu is deligthful. The brunch is great - easily one of the best in the city.

my brothers were in from maine
my brothers were in from maine and st. louis so my sister and i chose to take them to a place they had not been.
charles was most accommodating making the evening most pleasant.
the dinners were yummy and we somehow managed to squeeze in the bread pudding and the apple crisp.
all most sumptuous.

Love the venue, the menu,
Love the venue, the menu, and the quality of the food. Felt a bit "pestered" by our waitress after we were finished and were just chatting. Also, I chose "energetic" for the noise level because you didn't offer "too noisy." When one has to raise one's voice to be heard by those at your table, it's a minus for us.

My friend and i had lunch
My friend and i had lunch here. She was visiting from out of town. We had a delightful meal. She had one of the lunch specials, which was crab cakes and i had the ruby trout from the menu. Both were delicious. The list of wines by the glass had some very pleasant surprises on it and we each enjoyed a glass with lunch. Service started out a little uneven but got a lot better and lunch was very enjoyable. the surroundings are beautiful. we ate in the restaurant, as i think the atrium can get a little noisy. this is a great place to take visitors. i enjoy eating lunch here, it just feels special.

Good food, crude art
The soup of the day, creamy brussel sprout, was exceptional. The salmon entree was very good. The only thing I don't like about this restaurant is the artwork covering the walls. It is garish, disconcerting, and crude interpretations. It does not provide for a relaxing dining experience. The installation on the wall in the "courtyard" is much more pleasing.

Food great. They were out
Food great. They were out of the wine we wanted (an easy one to get locally) and one of four entrees came out quite late.

A perennial favorite of ours
A perennial favorite of ours but only open Friday and Saturday nights for dinner. Maybe that is what makes Cafe Sebastienne so special. It's fun to stroll around the exhibits and visit the gift shop too.
4/18/2013 4:00:00 PM
The food is innovative and flavorful - some of the best in town. The atmosphere is still a little unsatisfying; the inside is dominated by way too many (loud) distracting copies of notable paintings. The courtyard has a cold feel (no sound absorbing surfaces) and can be noisy if only partially full. The service can be good but sometimes it is a little slow and distracted. The wine list is small but well chosen -- someone really knows what they are doing! Did I mention how good the food is??

Perfect Sunday Brunch
The food was delicious - French Toast was the best I've ever had in a restaurant, and crab cakes were heavenly. The manager came to the table and spoke to us, which made us feel welcome. She was delightful as well as our server, who was attentive, very friendly and smiled all the time. We live 200 miles away, but we definitely will come back next time we are visiting Kansas City.

Every time I dine here I'm reminded of what a great restaurant this is.

Though a bit noisy due to high ceilings and reflective surfaces, the space is light-filled and airy and the food is delicious.

wonderful mother's day brunch!
Cafe Sebastienne hit it out of the ball park again! Soooo tasty. Excellent service. Awesome artistic vibes. Really good coffee. We'll be back for brunch again and again..

A quiet Friday evening
Wife enjoyed lamb.
I and another had salmon, with pesto, capers, and broccolini---?. Salmon was vy good. 4 or 5 capers hardly qualifies as with capers in my opinion. Greens were overcooked yet tough. Pesto was nice. Service excellent.
5/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
Dinner was good. New England
Dinner was good. New England steamers were best I've ever had in midwest. Lamb was a little strange because it seemed like they dumped a whole bottle of capers on the plate and rested the lamb on it. Salmon was good. Dessert was excellent and service was good. Don't know why they didn't serve dinner in the nicer dining room rather than the small corner side room.

First time Café Sebastienne and was very impressed! The ambience incredible, food amazing and service from Dale was wonderful. Will definitely be returning soon!
5/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
I had a lovely time at Cafe Sebastienne on a Saturday night. The atmosphere was great, the server Tyler was knowledgeable about the menu and had a good suggestion on a wine pairing. I'll definitely come again.

My husband and I love coming
My husband and I love coming here for dinner or brunch on our visits to KC. The food is great and affordable, the service attentive and friendly. A true treat!
6/1/2013 4:00:00 PM
Sebastienne is always a sure bet. The service was attentive and personable and the food was delicious. Try the carrot ginger soup and pork chop. The staff is very down to earth but know their menu. If you haven't eaten here, you need to for the experience. You will not be disappointed!
6/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Always good; a favorite lunch spot
Cafe Sebastienne is one of my favorite places for lunch in Kansas City. Great ambience and consistently good food. Dinner on weekends also great.
6/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Grouper special was very good
Grouper special was very good as was the rubarb crisp for dessert.
6/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Enjoyed lunch! We shared two dishes, the Reuben and fish tacos. Both were delicious! The fish was heavily seasoned, so if not a spicy food lover, you might ask to lighten it a bit. Took a piece of key lime pie home and it was excellent.
The only distraction was the door into the kitchen. The restaurant wasn't crowded at all, but we were seated fairly close to the kitchen. The door has suction, so made a loud noise every time a server entered/ exited kitchen.
6/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
Always a personal experience
Cafe Sebastienne is our favorite restaurant. It never fails to live up to our many past wonderful experiences there.
The wait staff listens acutely to the preferences and needs of the customers and makes every effort to please. They feel more like family than employees of a restaurant. The menu offerings are original, colorful, healthy, and delicious. Chef Jennifer Maloney leads the pack both in innovation and in pleasing the palate.

Had from friends from Manhattan (not Kansas) in town and had Sunday Brunch. Very impressive.
7/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
This was my second visit. It was great. I had Cafe Benny. Crab cakes were delicious. Then coffee with Pistachio liquor, fabulous!
My daughter had a ginger drink and loved it. Also French toast eaten by my husband. He said it was great. Thanks. We will come again.

Excellent Choice for Lunch
Both indoor and sunroom seating available. We reserved space as part of a visit to the museum, but I would return just for the food. While we wanted to eat a bite of each selection, we finally chose the chef's special, a 3-part sandwich, soup, salad, which was delicious. The eclectic décor and observant but not obsequious server made this experience relaxing and enjoyable.
7/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had not eaten at Cafe Sebastienne for some time. We totally forgot about the fantastic service and the fact that the menu is not static but changes constantly. We plan on dining here alot more often than we have in the past.
7/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food here is absolutely amazing. It is a must try. Foodies beware you will be spoiled by the perfectly cooked seafood and the masterfully done salads. Wine list is a plus and their cocktails are very refreshing. It certainly helps that this Cafe is in a museum of contemporary art, go see some art and finish your trip with fantastic service and an even better meal. A must for any socialite looking for a quality time!

How to impress out of town guests
We had eaten lunch and dinner at Cafe Sebastienne and had enjoyed the meals. This outing we took friends visiting from Los Angeles to the brunch. It was fun seeing the restaurant and museum from their eyes. We all had terrific meals. The service was good and the atmosphere is unique. Overall, the experience was most enjoyable and our friends were very impressed. And when you can impress Californians, you know you are doing something right.

Do a lot of business lunches
Do a lot of business lunches and Cafe Sebastienne is a frequent choice. Chef Jennifer Maolney's food is killer and the service is exceptional. Host seated us at a quiet cool table away form a large party that he knw would be noisy and disrupt our business. Then he graciously accommodated our move to table out of the AC for my guest. Food delicious of course and the service excellent all the way through. The large party was very loud however in the courtyard space which is all hard surfaces. Still love it.
7/24/2013 5:00:00 PM
Fabulous art---fabulous food!
Cafe Sebastienne is a fun place. You can sit in the courtyard and have the light of being outside but not have to deal with the elements. Although I thought it was freezing so might want to bring a wrap. The food ---whatever your choice----is fabulous. We had the Shrimp Louis. My favorite!! And the pistachio dessert was to die for!! And the service is outstanding!

The perfect combo
Sunday brunch at Cafe Sebastienne will satisfy art and food lovers alike.
The playful walls will test your knowledge while savory foods tickle your palate. This was our second visit and we will definitely comeback the next time we're in town.
8/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
Well done. Again.
In a world of new restaurants constantly opening, just to have quality go out the door in six months, Cafe Sebastienne delivers with top quality food and service year after year. We travel to KC 2-4 times a year and always make a point to eat there. Thank you for continuing to excel and maintain he highest of standards. Others could learn much from you.

Just what lunch should be
I love the light. Immediately relaxing. I was very happy to find most menu items were not soaked, saturated or sprayed with lemon or li e or orange as is the trend now -- citrus allergy --- but I was able to lunch without fear. Very, very loud. Reverberating conversations. Still, very pleasant. Good coffee.
8/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Wonderful Art and Food!
The restaurant has wonderful art all around. The rueben sandwich was outstanding - very tender and juicy. The atrium is nice if you want a lot of sunshine. The dining room is great if you want to look at the art. Great lunch!

Dinner at The Kemper
Our experience was fantastic. The food was great. The ambience was excellent. But the service was superb. The server was enthusiastic, helpful, attentive and yet he gave us the space and time to eat and chat without interruption. Can't say enough good things.

Special and relaxed
You can always count on a truly artful dining experience at Cafe Sebatienne..........beginning with welcoming, personal service. The food is fresh, local, and imaginative, and a joy to the palate! The ambience is vibrant and encourages lively conversation . Our dining experience has been consistently great.......time after time. It's a Kansas City gem.

We had three entrees + a yummy Peach Cobbler! Our server very good at giving advice. Crabs Benny had best crab cake I'ver ever had!

Jennifer Maloney's menu has many good choices and the results never disappoint.

Delicious but noisy
I have eaten many meals at Cafe Sebastienne and they have all been outstanding. The food is top notch: tasty and creative, with options for every palate and diet. The only drawback is that the atrium area is quite loud and echo-y, so if you're in a group, it can be hard to hear others at the table. But the venue makes up for it with beautiful art, excellent food, wine and cocktails, and an overall sense of community.

I had brunch with a friend recently. I love the food, the space and have always had wonderful service. one of my favorite places in KC.
10/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food and presentation are as appealing as the art on the walls. Chef Maloney has been doing what is now trendy for quite some time.

Cafe Sebastienne is always lovely
We had brunch with two friends and had a great meal. The interior room was quieter; we sat there so we could have a real conversation. Between us we tried the french toast, the omelette, the crabcake/eggs benedict, and the mixed greens. Al lovely. My only complaint is that once the coffee cups and plates were on the table, the 4-top was uncomfortably crowded. We will definitely return.

A dear friend of mine (who is turning 100 in December) & I had lunch here on a dreary day. However, it was not dreary inside! My friend was delighted with all the artwork surrounding us. She is also a Ruben sandwich expert and loved the Ruben here.
The service was excellent and the food outstanding. I know these outings are a treat for my friend and the staff helped to make this extra special!
If you want a truly special, non fussy place for lunch or dinner, Cafe Sebastienne is the place.
