Yummy, bucket of fried chicken!!!
We had a delicious dinner of fried chicken, sweet potato fries, green salad & biscuits. Have eaten there twice; perfect place for brunch or dinner with friends. Love the ambience!

Totally Rocked by the Front Porch!
The most amazing meal I've had in a long, long time. A Whistling Pig rye whisky old fashioned started the meal and was, without reservation, the best of that cocktail I've had at a restaurant. The bacon wrapped dates appetizer where utterly sublime. My colleague had the crab and grits and it was awesome. I selected the Dr. Pepper braised short ribs, and they where beyond reproach. The Butterscotch Puddin' that ended the meal simply capped one of the fines gastronomic dalliances I've enjoyed in many a month. I couldn't recommend this restaurant more highly if I owned it! What a Funky delight! , From the unusual decor to the close seating, and from the creative menu to the superb service, all I can say is BRAVO!!

Birthday on the Porch
I have been to the Front Porch twice before, and this time was just as good as the first two. In celebration of my boyfriend's birthday, we wanted to find a quiet but interesting restaurant with great food and good service. We found all of the above at the Front Porch. It was a Monday night, so although it wasn't at all empty, it was quiet and I loved that. The servers were very attentive and the manager came out to ask us about our food, which was super delicious and fresh tasting. At the end of the night, it started to get late, but we never felt rushed to leave, which I've encountered before at small restaurants. It was a perfect, intimate dining experience and we had plenty to take home.

Love the atmosphere here - bustling and vibrant in what looks like an old speakeasy. Food is fresh and tasty, though definitely for the heartier appetite. Friendly service if a bit absent-minded at times. Service slower/forgetful outside than in. Bartenders nice and talented mixologists. Fun to eat at the bar.

Perfectly cooked eggs benedict and yummy beignets. Very friendly service and I love the funky atmosphere.

Soul food to remember!
This was a wonderful, quaint restaurant with some of the best fried chicken I have ever had! Staff was friendly and attentive, they played great music and everything we ordered on the was delicious. Highly recommend a visit!

The fried chicken was the best I had ever had. Crispy yet moist on the inside. Very friendly staff as well.

WE went here as a recommendation from a friend in Bernal and we are thrilled we did. I highly recommend the étouffée fries, fried chicken and the peanut butter pie. Made a resie for another night before we even left the restaurant!

Okra of my eye
Awesome restaurant, cute location with a lot of personality. It was chilly when I ate there, but it looked like they had great outdoor seating and would have loved to take advantage of that on a warm, sunny day. Since moving to California I've missed my fried okra terribly, and was pleased to be reunited with it at long last. I got the flounder as my main dish WHICH. WAS. AMAZING. We didn't stay for dessert, it looked good but we were feelin' ice cream and instead went to Mitchell's which is literally right around the corner.
6/11/2013 4:00:00 PM
Went here for the fried chicken...it did not disappoint! Sides of macaroni and cheese, gumbo, and biscuits were good as well, although I expected the mac cheese to wow us...it didn't, unfortunately--pretty basic and plain. Gumbo was okay, definitely have tasted better. Biscuits were superb! Definitely would go back just for the fried chicken alone.

Best fried chicken
I lived in the South for two years and The Front Porch's fried chicken was the best I've had. Add in the spectacular fried okra with jalapeño aioli and bourbon cocktails that really hit the spot and you've got a delicious dinner in an intimate location with great character in its decor. The staff was knowledgeable, helpful and friendly and the prices are great. Try the bread puddin' for dessert or just come in for a great Southern-inspired drink at the bar. This place epitomizes a sign they have on the wall: Be nice or get out.

Delicious fried chicken and more
We went to Front Porch with a group of 5 so we were able to order quite a bit off the menu. Including the perfectly gooey Mac and cheese. The fried pickles which were well portioned. The oysters in the shell. The bacon wrapped dates had a perfect sweetness to them. The fries which were brought out so that the fries were still firm. Of course the fried chicken perfectly crispy and not too battered. The flounder which sat on a rice that had peas that were still crunchy.
In all including the service we had a great experience.

Southern Food done Right
Coming from Kentucky, I have a palate for fried chicken and greens : the Front Porch. If you want a true gutbusting, deep fried of a time, this is it. I have never been here and not had an exceptional meal.

Excellent customer service
Excellent customer service and authentic soul food preparation. Greens like my granny would make!

Round 2 - Great Place!
This was my 2nd time here and it was great! Campy atmosphere, great and accessible southern cooking, very friendly service and delicious food. Way to go and see you next time!

southern comfort food
done in an upscale-ish way. Amazing fried chicken and fried pickles.
7/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
I picked this spot because my girlfriend and I are big comfort food fans. The meal was fine, some appetizers may be a bit over priced but overall a good experience.
Quick note -- I don't believe I received the 100 dining points upon arrival. The hostess checked is in but I usually receive an email informing me of my balance.

Another great meal!
Always love FP...second visit this week. Super tasty cocktails, great food, super cosy atmosphere, and everyone who works there are really really nice! I've been enough times now to rule out a fluke...it really is that fabulous :)

Southern food at its best
We try to eat here on every trip to San Francisco. GREAT FRIED CHICKEN. Also the deep fried pickles are a must.
9/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good, local, loud
Favorites: the fried chicken (four breasts with a spicy crust), the fish and jambalaya (wonderful smoky taste), and the fried green tomatoes (though the breading spices were oddly similar to those on the chicken). Next time we'll go for the fried okra.
Less favorite: the noise level, the harried and maybe too small staff trying to keep up with a crush of diners. When we did interact with them they were friendly and very helpful.
Parking is very scarce in the neighborhood: Muni is a better way to get there.
9/7/2013 5:00:00 PM
delicate flounder over jambalaya rice; fried chicken like from childhood in Texas, the biscuits too. all excellent.

Delish Southern Cooking
Great Shimp and Grits and a good beer selection to go with it!

LOVE the Front Table, but
LOVE the Front Table, but I almost don't want to write a review because I can almost always get in. I go there with my aunt, who is in a wheelchair, and the service is always great. Food is comforting and delicious.

Worth the walk!
great food with some of the best and unique cocktails in town!

Awesome Southern Fare!
Everything was great. Cocktails were on point and our server was too!
Fried pickles and okra made me miss home...did I mention they have boiled peanuts?!? Yes just like grandma used to make!
they lose one star on food bc the fried chicken tasted a bit like fish...I awesome they fried it in the same bin as the fish. They lose one star for sitting six of us in a high traffic area. I felt like I was in the way and people kept bumping me.
9/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
The Fried Chicken is the best, takes a little time for the kitchen to make it but its worth every bite! Crunchy on the outside and properly seasoned and moist on the inside!
Chicken Gumbo is also good and it has a slow burn that is warming and pleasant. One of the best gumbo I have ever had, lots of flavor and not watery at all.
We also ordered the Baked Mac and Cheese on the side, nice but nothing special.
Dessert is Upside Down Banana Foster Cake, Decadent, Dense and very good!
Great place to go but go early and reserve your table as it gets busy really fast.

Comfort food at its best!
My husband and I had reservations for dinner, and were seated within 5 minutes of our arrival. During that short wait several groups we met were raving about the fried chicken. We ordered this dish and could not agree more. The chicken was crispy (but not overdone) AND juicy. Our party also enjoyed the Spicy Shrimp and Grits, the Dr. Pepper Braised Shortrib, and the Baked Mac and Cheese. I particularly loved the Shrimp, spicy without being to hot, the grits cheesy and delicious. The shortrib pulled apart with a fork and wasn't too sweet. My only regret about our meal......I had no room for dessert! Next time.

An eclectic mix of comfort food
We had a group of 9 and were 30 min late. It was very nice that they held to table for us. The staff was friendly and the food was fantastic and served hot! Mac and cheese was to die for everyone's meals were superb!

Bucket of chicken and pork chops
I think that's all that needs to be written, but then, there was the friend okra, fries pickles, and macaroni and cheese...let's not forget the flounder and broccolini- deeelish!

Front porch always delivers. Excellent food from the gumbo to the biscuits and chicken. No bad food served here

The fried chicken was worth
The fried chicken was worth a trip to the west coast. However, the bacon wrapped dates and fried okra were the highlight of the meal.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Go for the fried chicken
Fried chicken is spot on. Sides are little skimpy and a little overpriced but otherwise tasty. Nice ambience. Music is a bit loud. Will come back for the fried chicken which is the star.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
I enjoyed having a modern and foodie take on Southern favorites, like hot boiled peanuts, fried okra and fried chicken. My group had a great time. Thanks!

Another stellar dining experience!
My best friend (a former chef), my girlfriend, and I arrived bit early for our reservation, so after checking in at The Front Porch, we headed across the street to Rock Bar, owned by the same friendly folks. The owner, Josey, welcomed us and told us she'd walk over and get us when our table was ready!
My girl and I had the bucket of fried chicken with sides of mac n' cheese and red beans and rice. My best friend had the spicy prawns with grits. We barely talked as we scarfed down the amazingly delicious fare.
The Front Porch was great! Fast, friendly service, and free cornbread with chili butter while you wait. Great decor and ambience! Good for dates or family occasions. I've always had the best dining experiences here.

Great service and food
Great fried chicken and shrimp & grits. A nice hit of spice and excellent service.
10/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Small place with good style and nice people. Great for a meal or just some cocktails and bites. Thanks for a great Halloween treat.
10/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Thank you Triple D
We happened to see The Front Porch on a Diners, Drive-In and Dives episode. Being Intrigued and an upcoming trip to SF we made arrangements for our group to have dinner. Great atmosphere, excellent appetizers and the fried chicken was unreal!! This is a must do for future trips.
11/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
6 of us dined with 6 different appetizers and 6 different entrees. All of us were insanely pleased with the quality of ingredients, the textures, the aromas, and the complex and layered taste profiles. From the bacon-wrapped dates to the fried okra, to the pork chop over baked beans, and Shrimp & Grits red-eye gravy. And who knew a bucket of chicken could be so exciting! We loved our dishes so much that we decided to just pass them around so everyone could get a taste. The food is easily a 9 out of 10. Unfortunately, the service was apathetic at best from our waitress and down-right rude from the bartender. We just quietly made fun of the wait staff and laughed it off. To be honest, the food more than made up for the sub-par service!

Friendly, reliable and tasty
We came here on a Thursday night for my wife's bday with our 3 y/o and had a great meal. The ambiance is very cozy, if not a bit dark. Staff is very friendly, attentive and helpful, with that family-feel. The food, mmm, fried okra and pickles were just right, some places have too much batter, these guys do it right. My daughter loved the Mac n cheese which came, sizzling, in a cast iron skillet. We also had collards and mashed potatoes which were both very good. The star of our meal was the bucket of fried chicken we shared. I don't usually like chicken, at all, but the fried chicken at this place is so good, tender and garlicky and crunchy. I hear dessert is good too but we were stuffed. Overall, a solid, tasty place to eat and drink.

Dinner with Dad
My dad grew up in the south and loves Fried Chicken.
He was impressed with your fried chicken because it was crispy yet moist and cooked through.
He personally would have liked more hammock in his greens.

11/26/2013 4:00:00 PM
A quaint spot with a neighborhood feel, we found The Front Porch to be comfortable and inviting from the moment we walked in. We started with gumbo and fried okra both were uniquely prepared but big on flavor and big enough to share. I had the most amazing shrimp and grits (seriously, amazing!) I've had probably ever. The grits were truly creamy and delicious all by themselves. Hubby had the 4 piece chicken with collards and mac n cheese. WOW! We couldn't believe how tender, juicy and flavorful it was. Dessert was the apple crumble and pecan pie both were out of this world! Overall our meal was OUTSTANDING and the service matched! Kenny, our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable and there when we needed him. Hats off Front Porch, keep it up!

In addition to warm and cozy atmosphere, fab cocktails, and incredibly yummy food, the folks at FP are incredibly friendly and attentive. After probably a dozen or more visits, we had a consistently great time and left tipsy and well fed...thank you!!!!
11/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
We had a great dinner! Excellent, friendly service and wonderful food. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a comfortable dinner with great Southern cooking.
12/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
Festive and noisy
There were two parts to our experience; the disappointing first, when they told us we could not be seated at our reserved time because the people before us were still hanging out and sent us to their bar across the street without suggesting any accomdoation for the inconvenience (even an offer to buy a single drink would have been nice). Then part two, once we were finally seated and our nice waiter moved us smoothly through a good dinner. Reasonable priced for a big dinner too. Wine list needs work though, Sancerre was crummy.

Great food at hidden gem
The folks here were super helpful with our reservation for 15 folks (1/2 of them kids) even though the place is small, we were able to work out something for our group. The food was very good, we all liked everything we tried and a few of us had things we had never had before. If you are coming here, bring your appetite, especially if you're getting the chicken & waffles as it's a lot of food but sooooooo yummy! Chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I could eat it again and again and again! The only downfall is parking on a weekend is very scarce but worth it!
