We were in NYC for 3 days
We were in NYC for 3 days and this was, by far, the best meal of our trip. The owner is attentive, passionate and extremely knowledgeable. The food was exquisite: duck heart salad, octopus, veal cheeks and pork belly. Wine was superb! If we lived in NYC, we'd eat here once a week.

A Lovely Meal at Rouge et Blanc
Always welcoming, always delicious, this is a quiet restaurant in the upper reaches of Soho - West Village where the food is wonderful, the wine excellent, and where you can talk with your friends for hours if you choose.
Each dish was delicious and interesting, the combination of ingredients surprising and fresh.

All Around Excellence!
Wine list isn't encyclopedic, but doesn't need to be, as it is well constructed--every important wine producing region of France is represented, with a full range of prices and some nice by-the-glass selections. Great place to share small plates of delectable food with friends or family. The service is superb and knowledgeable. Good food. Good wine. Comfortable atmosphere. What else matters?

Interesting French-Vietnamese food. I found it a little too lemony but pretty good. The best thing about the restaurant was how quiet it was, even when nearly full.

exceptional food, lovely ambience
Second special occasion meal here, both great successes. An exciting rage of unusual dishes, designed for sharing. Somehow the combination of portion size, number of ingredients and their combination works perfectly. Fine service. Highly recommend it, will be back.

Interesting and excellent
Interesting and excellent French-inflected Vietnamese food. A very enjoyable change from predictable ethnic restaurants. The staff is warm and friendly. There is a good selection of wines and beers. Highly recommended.

This place is a gem! Friendly, cozy, and most important of all-food is exellent!
I will definitvely go back.
The idea is sharing dishes, me and my friend shared 2 appetizers, one main and one dessert and couldn't have been more pleased.
Crispy duck crepe, warm carrot salad, beef cheeks and noodles. The dessert, chocolate, marshmallows was heaven on earth!
I recommend trying a dessert wine, which I usually don't drink, but it was a perfect match and made our charming waiter so happy:)
Quiet and perfect to bring someone you love to talk to.

I walked by this restaurant last summer, and finally got around to trying it this year for my birthday. What an amazing find!! The food was phenomenal. We ordered a bunch of options (as the menu indicates it is designed for sharing), and nothing disappointed. The cured arctic char was phenomenal as were the scallops, and the buttermilk biscuit with macerated berries. The only downfalls--the sauce on the chocolate cake was a little too sweet, and the service was a bit spotty, but all in all I would definitely recommend!

great flavors excellent wine list
They can not serve hard liquor but they have an outstanding wine list. The food was very creative with unusual flavors. They recomend sharing but the plates are a little small to share between four people. They were a hardy size for one person. The beef cheeks were great. as was the quail.

What a treat! This place really is a gem with delicious food and great wine. The grilled summer squash salad was amazing. I'll be back. The service was very welcoming.

Food is inventive, superbly
Food is inventive, superbly prepared and presented. Very unique and delicious with wonderful flavors. The atmosphere is relaxing. Staff is attentive but not obtrusive. Owner is very knowledgable about wine and makes you feel welcome. Came from Pennsylvania to experience Rouge et Blanc again for the fourth time. Well worth the trip. Will definitely return.

I have been here several times
I have been here several times before. The food keeps me coming back! The ambiance is engaging and you do feel as if you have relocated out of Soho for a time; although during my last visit, the dining room was overly quiet. The wine list is interesting; even if wine by the glass is overpriced. We solved this by ordering bottles! Unfortunately, the service was anemic on my last visit. But back to the food. The dishes are conducive to sharing. The kale and broccoli is out of this world. Green veggies never had it so good. The beef cheek is succulent. And the homemade noodles with lobster defy description. One must experience it. All of that with a nice bottle of French red and good conversation is quite a pleasant way to spend the evening.

Why isn't this place better known? The food is unusual (yet not fussy), thoughtfully conceived and prepared. Service is sweet and knowledgeable. The place is pretty and quiet enough for conversation. Everyone I've brought here has loved it. Highly recommended!

A combination of well executed Vietnamese accented French cooking, adventurous wine list and an enthusiastic welcome make visiting Rouge et Blanc an unusually wonderful experience.

Food was very good, with the
Food was very good, with the vegetarian dishes being the stars and the only two misses the pork belly and the duck egg pizza. It would be great if they had another veg offering or were more flexible about removing the meat from one or two of their dishes. The wine was good - reasonably priced bottle and the server was helpful in selecting it.

Charming, hidden gem. The food and the service were fabulous. Two of us shared a special of crispy, soft-shelled shrimp in a flavorful sauce. We followed it up with the heirloom tomatoes with goat cheese vinaigrette and the Scallion Rice Crêpe with Crispy Duck in a Hoisin Vinaigrette. Both were wonderful, with complex flavors and multiple textures. We ended the meal with the Vietnamese Banana Semifreddo with Clotted Cream which was delightful. I was sorry we weren't hungrier because we wanted to try more. We would definitely go again.

This restaurant is everything you could ask for in a little Soho cafe. Incredible food, spectactular wine and lovely service. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant- if you're looking for that perfect little restaurant, look no further.

Loved the food but hate corking fee
One major complaint - $50 corking fee? Asinine...my wife's birthday and friend wanted to bring a special bottle of wine he was saving. That being said, really good wine list
Service was pretty good generally, friendly etc. but out server disappeared for long stretches of time
Food was really good with interesting flavors and great time was had by our group sharing all the dishes...loved the beef cheek! Would definitely come back!

Very nice dining experience
The French-Vietnamese food was excellent, full of flavor and unusual. The service was very attentive and professional. Lovely, not too loud French music and jazz in the background. A very adult place. Only complaint: not a lot of choices of wines by the glass, and they were a little pricey.
10/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
The title of this review says it all. There wasn't one weak element in our meal, from appetizers through the s'mores-like dessert. Attentive service for the most part, although there were a few segments during the meal where we were ignored. We will absolutely return to this excellent restaurant.

A West Village gem
Quiet, modest, creative Vietnamese/French cuisine with an outstanding sommelier. Great wines by the glass. Crispy kale and broccoli was excellent as well as Vietnamese sausage. Will definitely return.

Excellent and unique dining
Come for the food, stay for the wine list. We have been visiting Rouge et Blanc since the week they opened their doors, and always find the menu inventive and exceptionally well executed. What is more, the wine list is among the best we have seen for true gems of small vineyards in France. The prices are fair, but the best wines are not inexpensive. You can find wine lists with more famous names, but not with better wines.
10/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Worth a visit in the Village for unique and excellent food. Great individualized service. Friendly. Beer & wine only.
10/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Vibrant complex tastes
Dishes like beef cheeks and the rice-scallion pancakes were standouts. Service, however, left much to be desired. We were seated at an open window without being asked if that was okay (kept our coats on), waited several minutes for menus, even longer for water, etc. Getting the check required flagging down another waiter, etc. Just not attentive.
Decor is an attempt at 1940s Hanoi, I guess? Looks a bit Disney by day, shines at night. Worth a visit.

A friend recommended we try Rouge et Blanc on our next trip to New York City and I am so glad we did! We were late for our Saturday evening reservation due to traffic ....and I am relieved we called for them to hold our table because the place was packed. I have always loved French cuisine, but this restaurant's fusion of Vietnamese and French flavors was so creative... and magnificently delicious. We especially enjoyed the crispy broccoli and kale (we wanted to order another), the charred octopus, the leek confit, the homemade sausage, and the Branzino (the fish special of the day). The food was so fresh and the flavors were truly exceptional! We also appreciated the wine recommendations for our meal. We will definitely be back!

We had good food - nicely spiced broccoli and two duck dishes with an awesome chocolate dessert with vanilla icecream. Nice setting with a good service. Different taste, good atmosphere, jot really crowded after 9pm on a Friday. Worth to visit.

Mistake with respect to GF dish
Food is good, service is personable and atmosphere is charming. But they served me a dish with gluten in it (caught only by the bus boy) and although apologized, also put it on my bill, mistakenly I'm sure. But usually a restaurant would offer a glass of wine or something for serious errors . . . nothing here.

Second time that I've dined
Second time that I've dined here. The first time, was just two of us-- great service, excellent ambience (corner table nook), wonderful food and service.
This second time, was 6 of us-- the food was truly amazing. Have to try the fried pigs ears and octopus dishes.
This chef is doing some amazing stuff.
