The atmosphere in both the
The atmosphere in both the restaurant and bar is fantastic, the location unique, and the cocktails, though pricey, are delicious! We didn't expect the food to be the main draw, but it was actually really good. The guacamole and chips were extremely flavorful (and abundant!) and other dishes were really well spiced. Finally, the staff were so accommodating - - due to weather, we missed our reserved table and the the staff went out of their way to fit us in after only a short additional wait. We'll be back soon!

Great food, but beware seats by bar
Showed up with 4 people for a reservation for 2. Tried to use my charm to score us a table anyway. Must be where I went wrong ;) We were seated at a booth on the bar side, so didn't even get to see what the ambiance on the restaurant side was like. Service was watching paint dry slow. Didn't really seem like the staff on that side of the place were expecting to deal with diners. But the food was awesome. And it was definitely hopping. Cool place. I'll definitely go back.

Love the place and the sister
Love the place and the sister bar next door. Service is always terrible but always a good time.

Great NYC experience!!!
This place has to be on your "to-go" list just because it's located on a hidden street in Chinatown and down some secluded staircase; very cool NYC experience. Then, when you add the decor of the bar and restaurant, you can tell the owners truly invested some time and effort into this place. I loved that the bar and restaurant were on opposite sides as diners were not disturbed. Oh yeah, I forgot about the food and drinks. AWESOME!!! Definitely the best part of the entire experience. I highly recommend you try the Esquites side, Carne Asada meal, and the Coconut Pulque drink...Don't forget to try the lounge "Apotheke" right upstairs; very sexy spot and great cocktails!!!

Had a lovely dinner with my husband. We kept it simple - tacos and beer - all were tasty. The atmosphere is very cool

Gem in the middle of Chinatown.
Gem in the middle of Chinatown. This is kind of in the middle of nowhere (there is not much of a nightlife scene that's walkable) but you can definitely make a night of it at the restaurant. We had a great meal and moved over to the bar area where there was music to dance. Everyone had a great time. Only downside is that it was a bit expensive.

Went on a Monday night and had the tasting menu which was great for the price. Since we were two, my carnivore brother also ordered the tongue torta which he raved about and I had the esquites, which should NOT be missed! The pulque classico, as always, never disappoints.

Really fun spot-good drinks and really cool vibe overall. The food was good-but not great-small portions and sorta typical gourmet mexican. Ive had better. And service was a bit spotty-hard to find our server from time to time, slow with water...etc... But a fun spot-perhaps more of a fun bar to check out and grab an appetizer at than a sit down spot.

Tasty Mexican Food
Probably the best tacos i've in NYC in a very long time. I ordered the Tacos Gringas and they were delicious. The guacamole with the chips were on the money too.

food and drinks were excellent
food and drinks were excellent however the server was unfriendly and inattentive. We waited a very long time to order.

Cool Mexican in Chinatown!
Especially guacamole with a tower of 5 salsas to try.
Good margarita with fresh lime and not sweet!

In the cut
I was on a date with my husband, and since we have kids it isnt often we get out- if ever. With that being said if it would have been a terrible experience we wouldve been very unhappy. We were definitely happy. The bar was down a narrow street easily mistaken for an alley; The location added to the coolness. The margaritas were incredible. My fav was the mango w/ cilantro garnish GEEZ it wasnt what I expected- it was so yummy. The overall taste of the food was great; Full of flavor!!! The ambience was mainly candlelit-amazing!~

Great Mexican place hidden
Great Mexican place hidden in Chinatown...sort of like a speakeasy? The food was phenomenal BUT very expensive for what it was...I went with a discount from Gilt City and ended up paying exactly what I thought the meal deserved at the price of half off. The waiter was really nice, though the service was a little slow, but overall a fun to place to go with friends and delicious margheritas.

Food was great! Menu and drinks were well thought out, tons of flavor and great preparations! Get the side of corn...it's amazing. There's no sign, so make sure you know the address! Would return and send my friends there!

I really enjoyed myself. Everything was delicious and the decor was awesome.

love the food and the atmosphere.
love the food and the atmosphere. Great cocktails, a bit pricey.

Food was a great surprise! Very fresh and authentic! Our servers were wonderful, friendly and made excellent suggestions.
You would never expect to find this little Mexican gem in Chinatown. If you are adventurous enough to try to find this place GO! I was not too familiar with this neighborhood. Watermelon Pulque is delicious! Margaritas by the pitcher are well worth it! Jalepeno Cucumber and the Grapefuit Margaritas were really nice twists on the classic, which was also great!
Carnitas and the corn were more than memorable. Chile rubbed skirt steak and the Enchiladas were outstanding! Not your typical Mexican food. Plate sizes were ample, but not too big. Very cool and candle lit space. Muy bien! Definitely going back.

Fantasic Restaurant - understaffed
We sat down to dinner last night at 10.30 pm and it was clear that there was only one server on. This lead to us waiting a long time to order drinks and unable to capture the attention of the server. He was however, extremely polite, welcoming and very apologetic. Food was amazing, however we were left very disappointed that they had run out of guacomole - how can a mexican restaurant run out of guacamole?! A member of our party had a food allergy and the chef came to check with us what exactly she could/could not eat which was very much appricated by us.
Will 100% come back, we had a great time.

Fun Night Out
This place is a lot of fun even when it is completely empty! This was my second visit to Pulqueria and they had just finished filming a commercial so the restaurant was empty and we had to wait for a bit for our table but the bar is so much fun and they have the best margaritas so it was not a problem. It's definitely better for a later dinner. The food is great too. You have to do the salsa tower!

Big Mexico in little Chinatown
This place is amazing! The food is authentic, the vibe is subterranean, and the service is spot on. I think this is the best Mexican restaurant in NYC. The attached bar was perfect for a before and after dinner pulque drink. This will definitely be on my regular dining rotation!

Wicked Place to go
This was my first trip to NYC and a friend recommended Pulqueria, and what a recommendation .... We had fabulous food followed by a great evening in the bar ........a must go !!

Great Mexican Food!
Great Mexican food right in the middle of Chinatown!
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Had a lovely early dinner here. Just a few diners when we arrived so it was nice and quiet. By the time we left (9pm) the place had filled up with a nice festive crowd. This place has a great decor and feel, and a delicious assortment of salsas and sauces. All the food was flavorful and nicely cooked. Recommended.

Amazing ambiance & staff
Explosive and flavorful. That's how i'd describe the food. Great ambiance. Attentive staff. Hostess was vey accommodating with our seating. First, we were early; second, we're picky about our tables and she was able to successfully seat us in a most desireable location to us. One odd occurrence kept happening: music selection was all over the place. Restuarant seemed confused about which genre music to play that night. Also, music would pause many times throughout. Eventually, I had to tune out the tunes. Overall, amazing spot. Definitely returning.

Hidden gem in LES
Along an unnamed curved street down an unnamed stairwell and through the Pulqueria looking glass into a Mexican oasis. Cute bar, scene for urban hipsters, and in fact some really tasty food. Service not as good as the food, servers busy managing 'the scene'. Loved the enchiladas, the guacamole, a delicious corn side/appetizer. Great place, anomaly in the 'hood.

After getting past the sketchy, almost hidden, entrance; you've found a gem!
Once you walk down the stairs, you enter a surprising ambiance! An overall romantic feel, but a fun atmosphere for a group, especially if you order some of their trademark margaritas or fermented agave! The food is upscale Mexican food, with delicious and unique elements of flair. They are very accommodating for good allergies and their chips, corn tortillas and other options are gluten free. My only 'complaint' is the variety of portion sizes, the tacos are quite small while the enchiladas are an average size. Definitely get the guacamole de casa or the Mexican street corn! Delicious options!
Great food, fun/ romantic atmosphere& delicious drinks!

Girls NYC weekend
We chose resturant for its Gluten free options. Delicious queso with mushrooms $11, guacamole $14, margaritas $14 are yummy & strong! Waitress all business not very friendly. I thought was slightly expensive for what you get. Two tacos 3in diameter $14 actually $14 is the number for many things. No signage so look for the address # we walked right by.

Good romantic spot ! Great cocktails ! Food was excellent but portions are small !
11/24/2013 4:00:00 PM
Our server was great-very friendly, happy to explain the drink menu and food menu. Pointed me towards the tamarindo pulque drink, which was excellent. I had the pork confit tacos, which were good, similar to tacos I have had other places. He also told us how to get into Apotheke next door, where we had more awesome drinks in a great atmosphere.
11/26/2013 4:00:00 PM
I love love love Pulqueria the food and the ambience outweighs the lacks service. The waiters are non chalant but a bit too out of it. The busboys are on point and the chef is a MASTER. The special margaritas are to die for.
11/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
Where's the coffee?
Pulqueria is one of the most interesting restaurants in NYC, for locale, food prep, ambiance, and more. love it, and it stays great. But about tmw they served coffee (or tea). Just doesn't finish a meal without it! It is the number 1 request/complaint n the place. Time to deal: Pulqueria could be perfect if they did.
12/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
I wish there were more like it!
The vibe is so downtown hip and chic. Loved everything. Amazing for a date or for a group. The music got a little too loud at the end, but I asked our server if they could turn it down and they did! I thought that was amazing. The food was fantastic. We've been twice. We enjoyed the Enchiladas Verde and the Carne Asada over the tacos, but the tacos were good too. The drinks could be stronger but they are tasty. Will be back over and over...
