The "Gem" in Bethesda
There are over 200+ restaurants in Bethesda and there is a definite reason BRASSERIE MONTE CARLO has been successful for the last 13 yearsoutstanding service, delicious food and on-site owner management by Sonny Abraham.
We had the special Long Island duck was was fantastic AND it was really from Long Island. The salads were delicious especial the roasted beets as well as the white anchovies salad
They are serving brunch on weekends too.
Go, enjoy and I promise that you'll return again and again. I came all the way from LA to eat here!!

Good wine list, everyone at the table enjoyed his/her appetizers and entrees.
It's difficult to find duck cassoulet in Washington.

nice for the two of you
Our first visit to the restaurant, went on a week night, nice ambiance, liked the meal very much, nice menu. Only 1 hostesss/server for the whole room just a bit slow but I think she managed it very well and she had a nice personality. Overall I'm glad we went & plan on another visit.

The Brasserie Monte Carlo
The Brasserie Monte Carlo packs in the tables and the diners (at least on a Saturday night) - but presents an atmosphere that is both warm and intimate. We ate beautifully grilled salmon (the Pernod sauce could have used a bit more Pernod but the tricky bit is getting the salmon right and they really did that), an excellent lamb navarin, first-rate salads, and a green apple tart that was "to die for." Noise level didn't prevent three old folks from having a real conversation. Friendly and attentive service. Suggested a rather unconventional wine pairing that worked out really well. Staff cheerfully gave us extra forks with the dessert. Finished off the meal with a lovely sip of peach schnapps. We'll be back.

Great Business Dinner
I recently dined here with a colleague for a business meal and enjoyed it very much. The food was delicious and the service was good. Would definitely recommend it for either a business or personal meal. Just don't bring a large crowd - seems much more suitable for small, intimate gatherings.

this is the best French/ Mediterranean food I have ever had. the most flavorful, well served, and lovely ambiance of a restaurant I've been to. it's truly a neighborhood gem.

We sat outside on the first
We sat outside on the first nice day in Spring. I had a delicious salad and my companion had oysters and a salad. Everything was perfect. Highly recommended.

It's not necessarily kid friendly,
It's not necessarily kid friendly, but when asked for the pasta and just tomato sauce, they accommodated and my 12-year-old son like it. They only appear to serve beer and wine, which was fine. The wines are limited, but Ithink certainly satisfactory. Would definitely go again.

Always good food and pleasant
Always good food and pleasant service. We have never been disappointed. This restaurant is a recent discovery of ours less than a year ago and we have returned frequently.

Loved it! Cannot wait to return!
We had a late Sunday brunch for a group of six. We all had excellent meals, loved the restaurant, enjoyed the service which was excellent and look forward to coming back. It was very quiet, I think because we were the last table there, so I am not sure if it is really quiet when the restaurant is full as it's a small place. Due to the small size of the restaurant, I am not sure that this is good for groups. I think our table just got lucky that we were not taking up a large space while lots of folks waited. I think this is best for two and four tops.

Great food, good service, very pleasent atmosphere. We have been here before, enjoyed it then and enjoyed it again. We really enjoyed a meal with friends and would go back without hesitation. Wine list is good. The restaurant sits on a corner and it is pleasent to watch the world go by and we look forward to eating outdoors when the weather allows.

Good French fare at a good price
We hosted a large group which they handled well. We were greeted by one of the chef/owners. The menu was delightfully varied with enough choices without being overwhelming. We had two different seafood dishes (the chef's special was really special!) several braised short ribs (fabulous) and a lamb stew (I forget the French name) which was excellent. Desserts were also a hit, and we had almost every appetizer on the menu. A very nice meal at a good price point.

Mother's Day Celebration, Excellent
We were a party of 8, three generations, a very classy restaurant. Had the 3-course menu. Great Value for the price. We all had different things. We loved it. Food was simple, artful and flavorful! My personal favorites, The Chilled Vichyssoise, Shrimp Imperiale(crab) and the Apple Tart. Originally we wanted to sit on patio, but too cold. They already had anticipated us in-door's. The place was packed. Food and service was timely. I briefly saw the Chef, do a round of the main-room and go back to the kitchen. We have been here for brunch before, it was still great! I guess they must be something "right" to be here for almost 14 Year's. Very romantique!!!

A Brunch Gem
We had a special occasion for our family -- 13 strong. The food, service and ambiance were outstanding! We will definitely be back.

It was better than expected.
It was better than expected. The onion tart was outstanding, as was the beet salad. The main courses were tasty and not overfilling. The hot bread was also good. We all enjoyed our desserts.

Great locally owned restaurant
This place is a gem. The food is amazing. The staff so friendly. We sat ouside, enjoyed a nice evening in Bethesda. The staff was attentive but didn't bother us. The wine list was great as well. This is a great break from the chain restaurants out there. I'd recommend the beef medallions, they are very special. Everyone enjoyed their meal and we will definitely come back.

Small neighborhood gem
Delicious food and great service. Staff is welcoming and friendly. Notable wine list also.

Quiet, good Mediterranean food
Attractive very quiet restaurant with delicious variety of Mediterranean dishes.
7/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Cappachino - perfect; Lamb Stew - excellent; Escargot appetizer - delicious; Scottish Salmon sandwich - delicious; hot...and I mean...hot...rolls with cool butter were devine....can't complain about the food or the service. Wish we could have had room for dessert. The ambience is in want but you can tell the owner is trying hard to update. I love the way the owner is on the corner and has windows that go around the corner of the front of the restaurant with tables inside and outside. Very nice. It is clean even though aged in appearance in places. The fresh flowers on each table, white table clothes are topped with white paper to keep from washing a lot of table cloths...I assume...ours had a few spots at bottom. Still rate 5 stars.

All the menu items are well
All the menu items are well prepared and presented nicely. The restaurant is a little more expensive than other restaurants in the Bethesda area, but well worth it. We particularly like that the restaurant is quiet and conversation is easy. In good weather, there is limited outdoor seating.

Can't believe I didn't know!
I've been living and dining in the area for more than 20 years, and cannot believe that I never ate at this Brasserie. The filet mignon medallions were melty and tasty. The salad was good, the wine lovely, the staff vaguely mysterious, and we had a terrific meal at a wonderful price!

Lovely celebratory dinner
My husband and I celebrated our first anniversary here and had an amazing evening. The host/server was very kind, attentive, and knowledgable about the menu. She made us feel very special on our big day :) The food was delicious from the appetizers to the dessert. I had the fliet mignon medallions which were cooked beautifully. The vegetable side was fresh and well seasoned. The chocolate mousse cake (which we requested with vanilla ice cream) was an excellent end to our meal. We hope to go back again and would recommend this restaurant to friends!

Passion on a Plate!
I had the onion tarte and the Sea Scallop Pasta dish with summer vegetables, both were excellent. My friend had the filet and the cucumber salad, which was also good. One of the wines by the bottle was not available, they server suggested a similar one, which actually turned our to be great. I have been here several times over the years, still great. Same Chef/Owner, saw him briefly. Still grow's some of his vegetables and herbs from his garden. The outdoor patio is great for people watching. Almost like Paris, missing the brick sidewalks. There passion show's on the plate. One of the few "Olde Timer's" of the Bethesda Triangle. Sam the server captain was great.

The staff was exceptional,
The staff was exceptional, my wife and I appreciated their attentiveness and recommendations. The lamb stew was quite tasty albeit the meat a bit dry. We plan to return and try some of the dishes on the menu.

Great Food and Service
We dined outdoor's. They were packed. Full staff. Even got to meet the chef/owner briefly. I was surprised to hear, our vegetables on my plate were from his garden. The best was the heirloom tomato and Armenian Cucumbers in a light shallot vinaigrette. The ratatouille; squash, eggplant and zucchini, surprisingly from the garden too. According to the server Jessy, he grows and gets the rest from local farms, whenever he can. I had the Filet Halibut, my wife had the lamb stew, they both tender and flavorful and not over cooked. Had a nice house cabernet with it. The valet took a little longer. I have eaten in many Bethesda restaurants. This one seem's to stand the "test of time" Solid 14 year's.

Worth the drive to Bethesda
We live in the H street corridor and don't venture outside of the District very often for dinner. Brasserie Monte Carlo was well worth the drive. We had a great time and the server was phenomenal. He was pleasant, knowledgable and friendly. We would definitely go back.

Flavor of the South of France
We've been before to this restaurant for brunch, which we thoroughly enjoyed, and were happy to return for dinner. Food was delicious--both the appetizer and main course & we especially appreciated being treated to small glasses of complementary champagne for starters. The waiters were delightful & helped us select a perfect wine to go with our meal. In all, we had a very nice evening & would recommend this restaurant to others. Prices, also, were reasonable.

Best Lamb Stew!
The food at Brasserie Monte Carlo is consistently delicious, and our visit last week was no exception. All four of us were very pleased, with two ordering fish, one ordering a salad, and one ordering the lamb stew. I've had the lamb stew before, but it was better than ever this time. The restaurant is small and feels intimate, and you can people-watch out the window if you want to see what's going on in this part of downtown Bethesda.

Pleasant service, well prepared
Pleasant service, well prepared and tasty food and reasonable prices. Always a sparkling aperitif on the house. Hot rolls with fresh butter a staple. Super tasty butternut squash soup. We have never been disappointed with any entree offered after many times at the restaurant.

Downtown Quality in Bethesda
Love this restaurant. Very high quality dishes in a romantic personal setting. If you want something a little special and aren't in the mood for some 200 seat production - you won't be disappointed here.

Decided to try the restaurant
Decided to try the restaurant with my fiance last minute on Saturday. The restaurant was not very busy (which makes you think something might be wrong with it on a Saturday) but we were pleasantly surprised. Great service and the food was excellent. Escargo, baked onion tarts, carbonara, wine, and the best apple pie I've ever had. Would definitely return.

Great Food, Since2000, Going Strong
We never knew this restaurant is the "only certified restaurant" in Bethesda by the U.S Food Council...wow. I actually googled it. My Partner, has been coming here since early 2000, seasonal and an artful display of flavor's and sauces. I have to admit it...the sauce on the filet medallions is the best, I have ever had, and I travel a lot, for my work. Everyone had a different dish. No complains. The flavor's were intense yet subtle. The chef's, cucumber's and tomatoes great.. The Veal chop with a Port Wine Fig Glaze!!! The Scallop and Shrimp Pasta good, I also found -out the chef does grow's his own, garden, really...or sources from local farms. Chef Sonny stopped by briefly...mentioned, he will be doing "Wild Game Menu" Starting November.

Great outdoor dining
During the nice weather, this is a lovely spot to dine outside, reminiscent of an outdoor cafe in Paris. The food is always well prepared and the specials intriguing. The escargot is always excellent here.

Recently discovered this fine little restaurant and consider it one of our favorites. Always well prepared and tasty food. My veal chop special on our last visit was superb in taste and preparation with mushrooms and wine sauce.

Chef even accommodates vegans
Sunday brunch was great and the chef cooked a special meal for our vegan guest. Hurrah for this restaurant!
10/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very good, but on the edtge.
While the salmon was cooked medium, rather than medium rare, and the rich sauce masked the flavor of the fish, everything else was very good. My companion particularly enjoyed her salad and the scallops. The list of wines by the glass is very limited, but the selections are very good and reasonably priced. The restaurant should get its espresso machine fixed.

Pleasant and accommodating service. Always tasty and well prepared entrees and appetizers. Been here often and never

I had been here several years ago and for some reason never made it back. Brasserie Monte Carlo seemed perfect for a "sort of" business dinner. All three of us were delighted with our meal and wine. The lovely server surprised us with a delicious peach liquor at the end, even though we did not order dessert. That's just the sort of service which builds loyalty.
10/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Cozy and delicious
This is a small restaurant but cozy. The escargot and halibut special were delicious. The chef came out several times to make sure we were happy. So nice to go to a restaurant that has a warm vibe as opposed to the cold atmosphere at many Bethesda restaurants. We will definitely go back. Our hesitant teens loved it too.

We celebrated a family birthday at Brasserie Monte Carlo. We ranged in age from 6 to 67 and everyone enjoyed the brunch. Very fresh and varied menu.
11/2/2013 5:00:00 PM
Every time we go back to Brasserie Monte Carlo we're impressed by the quality of the food and the service. We recommend it to anyone who asks about a place to eat in restaurant row.

Great food - again
We have been here before and it was as good as ever. Service was spot on - they made a special dish for the five year old with us. The dining room is small but comfortable. The beef medallions and the chicken dish were excellent. Deserts were also first class - the chocolate cake and the apple tart were also superb and came in good portions. We love this place!
11/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
Surprisingly large choice
Surprisingly large choice of dishes on the lunch menu, and at reasonable prices. All of us enjoyed our meals. Too bad more people aren't aware of this outstanding alternative to a run-of-the-mill lunch.

Lovely little spot
My husband and I really enjoyed dinner here. We were actually the only diners there, which was a little disconcerting, but also lovely. The service was excellent and the food was great. The onion soup was among the best that I've had and the duck was also excellent (if also the smallest one I've ever had). My husband had the smoked salmon salad which he enjoyed and the braised beef short ribs. This dish was exceptionally good. We will definitely be returning.

Overall very good birthday dinner
Went out with my family, wife, son , daughter in law with a surpirse visit from 6 year old grandson for dinner to celebrate birthday. Onion Tart, butter nut squash and onion soups were very good. Sea bass, chicken and pork tenderloin entrees were all very good, with my salmon, although tasty, served a bit overcooked when I asked for medium. Service was a little slow with only the matre'd /main waiter and one buss boy serving entire small retaurant of 20 or so tables. It is a very good place for dinner for two , which comprised most of the diners Friday evening. Dessert choices were limited with the apple tart being very good- Coffee was excellent.
