I absolutely love Floataway.
I absolutely love Floataway. I've been for my anniversary, for a friend's birthday and just for delicious dinner. I love the ambiance and the service, food and wine never disappoint. I recommend the burrata and pommes frites. If you haven't been yet, you have to go.

Floataway Cafe's food is a gourmet's delight. It provides very fine food in a non-stuffy environment. The service is attentive and many of the tables are so private that one can carry on a true, adult conversation. The appetizers are especially appealing, but my trout was also amazing.
Although the name of the restaurant implies some watery location, it is actually in a formerly industrial area and housed the Floataway Garage Door factory when overhead garage doors came into existence. So encountering this wonderful restaurant in such an out-of-the-way location feels a little adventurous and fun.

The cured swordfish and the beef carpaccio were delicious. Both main courses were very good also, although the pork chop was huge. We did not take dessert. The wine list is moderately priced.

Relaxed, calm atmosphere. Wonderful service. Exceptional food with the finest ingredients. Our favorite spot. And it keeps getting better.

Organic, well prepared and pleasant
We entertain special guests frequently in Atlanta, and Floataway has never failed to impress our guests. They are very attentive to food allergies and offer positive alternatives.

Perfect Fries and Meatballs
The steak was very good and done right, but the fries that came with it were a 10 of 10. if you rarely eat fried stuff save it for these.
Veal meatballs are wonderful. Wonderfully spiced. Brussel sprouts a bit underdone.

Relaxed atmosphere, good food and friendly staff made for a great evening during our first visit. We will definitely go back agai.

As usual Floataway Cafe did a great job. Whether you have a big dinner party looking for small plates, great meals and great wine or looking for a quiet dinner this restaurant is great. I do recommend choosing off peak nights for quiet dinners as with any other great 'well known secret' Atlanta restaurant.

A deliciously good time
My Boss and I started the evening meal with the Gulf Blue Crab Fritter with white bean salad. By far, one of the best fritters I have had. All crab, perfectly cooked and crispy, and the salad had a citrus vinaigrette that made the dish light and delicious. For our entree, my boss selected the Wood Grilled Niman Ranch pork porterhouse. Perfect selection if you are very hungry and enjoy pork. I chose a more adventurous route with Black Calamaretti, Georgia white shrimp, and young squid. The pasta had a saltiness to it that was well balanced by perfectly cooked squid and shrimp. A very delicious dish that was worth trying. If you're looking for good food, and a quaint and quiet environment, then the Floataway Cafe is a great choice.

Delicious food and a reasonably priced wine list in a cool setting made for a very enjoyable evening!

Excellent food, as always.
Excellent food, as always. The crab fritter was delicious and the pastas were exceptional, especially the rabbit orecchiette (probably one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had). Sticky toffee pudding for dessert was a fantastic finish (and we are usually dessert people). Only critique is that the entree service felt rushed - we hadn't finished our appetizers yet when they were brought out. This seems to be a recurring trend at Floataway (probably the 3rd time this has happened to us there) but otherwise the service is great.

Another excellent meal at Floataway. The patio is one of the most beautiful dining areas in Atlanta. For appetizers, the crab fritter is a must. Our two pasta dishes were excellent too, but the standout was the orecchiette with rabbit ragu. It was absolutely perfect. The sticky toffee pudding is well worth it as well (and we're not even dessert people). The wine list is small, but with lots of variety and is VERY reasonably priced. Service was excellent - only complaint is that we would have liked more time between our courses. We hadn't yet finished our appetizers when they brought out the entrees.

great food in a relaxed atmosphere
Very nice meal in a comfortable setting. A bit load, but hey - on Saturday night it should be!
5/17/2013 4:00:00 PM
This is the 2nd average meal I've had here in recent months. I think they changed chefs and this one, in my opinion, is not as good as previous ones. The food is still good, just boring.

Emphasis on locally produced food. Always great food. Don't be turned off by the light industrial park neighborhood. It is worth it.

Floataway is always excellent. They always use the freshest in season ingredients and source their food as local as possible. The quality of the food and service is always very high. The food is always prepared in a creative manner. A consistent favorite of ours.

Excellent Once Again
We don't go to Floataway often enough. It never disappoints. We had wonderful appetizers, the crab cake and the calamari-shrimp combo. Three of us had the duck breast, which was perfectly done, accompanied by an excellent ratatouille. The cabernet we had was outstanding, and reasonably priced. We were sorry none of us had room left for dessert.

nite in hot'lanta
found them on urbanspoon, booked with you... and both gave us a wonderful nite.

Don't let the "cafe" in the name deter you. The food is very good and try to score one of the corner tables in the bar for a romantic date night. Will definitely be back.
7/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Don't let the location fool you
Tucked back in an industrial park by the railroad tracks isn't where you'd look for solid cuisine. But once you're inside, it works.

From Santiago (Chile) with Love
Floataway is a personal favorite of mine for special events with spouse and for treating out-of-town guests. On this particular evening I was accompanied by two new business associates from Santiago, Chile who were visiting Atlanta for the first time ever. They were beyond impressed and eager to return next time in Atlanta.

Still a favorite...
I hadn't been to Floataway Cafe in several years....not since their expansion and redecorating. It's sooo attractive and conducive to just relaxing and enjoying normal range conversation! The food was Quatrano-Harrison quality. Original, clean, healthy, fresh, but also attractive and appetizing. Prices have inched up a bit, but the quality warrants the increase.
8/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Although the main courses are around $25-$30, everything in this menu is undermined by their toffee pudding dessert. My girlfriend has a sweet tooth, and even she regarded this as the best dessert she has ever had. Our main dishes (chicken and hanger steak) were also both absolutely delicious, I could not recommend this restaurant more, its a wonderful ambiance and a wonderful + romantic meal.
The only dish that we felt was disappointing was the octopus appetizer, which we felt was just disappointing (It was labeled as octopus + chorizo, it only brought one small piece of chorizo, and three fried pieces of octopus).
8/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food with farm fresh goodies.
Enjoyed every bite of everything we had which was the north Georgia trout, tomato salad, crab fritter, cheese plate. Loved it and we will be back!

It has been several years
It has been several years since we have been to Floataway. Difficult to make get reservations. Everything was wonderful. There were 3 of us. We shared the piccolo frito with shrimp/calamari. The blue crab fritter had lots of crab meat, no filler. My husband enjoyed the clams appetizer. For entrees, we had the squid ink buactini. Not alot of protein in the dish but I definitely enjoyed the leftovers for my lunch the next day. We also ordered the orecchiette/spicy lamb sausage and the north georgia trout. For dessert, we had the almond ricotta tart, w/peaches,blueberries, gateau victoire wth chantilly cream (my all-time favorite). Our waiter, Nick, was very patient since it took us awhile to make up our minds on what to order.

Date night with my husband
My husband had heard great things about the Floataway Cafe from people at his office. We had a date night there one Saturday evening while our daughters were at a birthday party. The receptionist greeted us warmly and seated us in a lovely curved leather sofa for two in a corner of the bar area. It was perfect for us. The food was exceptional and our waitress was wonderful. We shared a beet salad with goat cheese and for dinner he had duck and I had the trout. My husband said that he was impressed with the how well the duck tasted and commented that few restaurants know how to cook it this well. Dessert was the sorbet and gelato, homemade and very very good. We will definitely be back with our family, friends or maybe just the two of us:)

Great neighborhood find!
Don't let the somewhat isolated location scare you away, Floataway Cafe is delicious. We shared two appetizers, an entree, side dish and a dessert and left very satisfied. The carpacio small plate is delicious, and the seafood was great. Also, the fried whole pod okra was a great pairing with the trout.

Wonderful food. Service is dependable. Floataway is a winner.

Where's the Bread?
This is a popular, trendy restaurant with a healthy price tag, both at the bar and the table. I was quite surprised to find that no bread was served with the meal; you have to order it separately. I can't recall the price, but it was delicious. Just think that for the money, this level of restaurant should give you a couple of free slices of bread...talk about gouging! Unfortunately, they don't often change their menu nor offer specials, so what you see is what you'll get over and over and over. Count me out for at least six months.
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
We really like this place. The menu always is refreshed, food is great, and the noise level doesn't prevent you from having a conversation.
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Actually excellent...the food, the service, the surroundings. Great for special occasions or just a night out for a wonderful dinner.

Special occasion dinner
We had excellent service! The oysters were fantastic, the broth in the clam app was delicious with the grilled bread. The fig app was good and accurately described but would have liked more intense flavor. We thought the hangar steak was perfect, but the the pizza was sub par. Expected more of a traditional Italian pizza crust - this one was dough-y and the toppings were good but sparse.
While the food was quite good, the star was the service. The location is obscure but interesting and pleasant.
Would go back for light supper and sample more apps and possibly dessert.

Great ingredients. Perfectly prepared. You can see and taste the care that goes into it. If you ask questions the servers are mini chefs and can explain in perfect detail how something is prepared. But they don't thrust it on you like at other restaurants. This is the lighter, looser sister of Baccanalia. But with all he refinements of food and service. So relaxing and tasty.

Not easy to find, but worth the effort. Great food, atmosphere, and service.

Great food, impeccable yet pleasantly informal service, and a refined and relaxed atmosphere combine to make the Float Away Café a predictable choice for an exceptional dining experience.
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
My fiancé and I come here frequently and love it every time. We usually get the crab fritters (a must), 2 entrées, the toffee and 2 drinks each and it always comes to less than $100. For the quality, it is the best deal in ATL!

We don't go to Floataway often
We don't go to Floataway often enough. We're never disappointed, and neither are our guests. There are always some delicious adventures - I'd never had Taylor Bay clams in the kind of spicy sauce with corn served as an appetizer, but I can now heartily recommend it. My sister raved over the trout, and the rest of us loved the duck breast and the veggie accompaniment.

Wonderful but a little eccentric
This was our first visit. The food was excellent. The service was friendly but we went long periods without seeing our server. The food came out promptly after ordering; somewhat unusually, wine took a long time to receive and to be refilled. The rooms are very pleasantly decorated in a somewhat industrial fashion, in keeping with the warehouse district where the restaurant is located, and thankfully there is some carpeting and upholstery to keep the noise level lower than that of most other trendy Atlanta restaurants. As handsome as the decor is, however, it isn't very practical. The banquettes seat you much lower than desired (a topic of complaint at other tables too), and the brushed metal chairs leave your backside pretty cold!

The food was magical ... the orecchiette was a beautiful combination with the lamb and carrots, bold flavors, great complexity without being rich or heavy. the ravioli was rich and delicious - perfectly sized portion. the trout was perfect ... the zucchini romesco - delicious.
The choices of the menu offer the diner a great array of choices while being a short menu. Great service - always a wonderful meal

We hadn't been here in several years and brought out of town guests here for dinner. It was the perfect place to take them - the food, from duck, ravioli, and fish, was perfectly prepared and served. Service was professional and knowledgeable. Couldn't have been better!

a quirky charmer, in an odd place
First-time visitors to Floataway wonder whether they are lost when they park in front of this restaurant in its isolated semi-industrial neighborhood. Passing through the entrance, however, transports the guest into a surreal yet comfortable space defined by erector-set structural accents and austere furnishing. The food is delicious on all counts, with whimsical variations on familiar themes, and the wine list has a modest selection of distinctive bottles at fair prices. The floor staff work efficiently. Our waiter in particular was proud to represent this quirky charmer of a delightful restaurant in an odd place.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great for small plate dining. We had oysters on half shell to start with a glass of Prosecco, perfect beginning, then Blue crab fritter delicious. Arugula salad and beet salad. Get both and eat together. Fresh and delicious. We had pastas-butternut squash ravioli and pasta with veal meatballs. Great and filling. No bread offered. Wine choice far ranging and interesting.
Location is semi industrial area and it's hard to find in the dark which may have accounted for the scarcity of diners. Several rooms and nice bar -comfortable seating for z couple or a group. I think the outdoor dining with a pretty patio.
